Gallaudet
Sign language in the United States started out with each area having there own form of sign language
specific to that area. What is known as American sign language today was developed by Thomas
Hopkins Gallaudet. Gallaudet started to develop ASL after he visited his family in 1814 and met Alice
Cogswell, a young deaf girl who his siblings had left out. Gallaudet started to teach Cogswell written
words for things such as the word hat. After that Alice s father, Mason Cogswell wanted Gallaudet to
continue to teach Alice so he paid for Gallaudet to go to Europe to learn how deaf children were
taught there. While in Europe he met Laurent Clerc, a graduate of the Institut Royal des Sourds Muets
in Paris. Clerc eventually came back to United States ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gallaudet was founded in 1867 in Washington DC. The first superintendent of the school was Edward
Gallaudet who is the youngest son of Thomas Gallaudet. Eventually an elementary school and a
middle school were founded on the Gallaudet campus in 1969 to provide early education to the deaf
community. The founding of Gallaudet and the American School for the Deaf has given Many new
opportunities to the deaf community. The major thing that founding these schools has done is created
American Sign Language. The creation of American Sign Language has made it so that there is a
single uniform language for the deaf community across the the United States and Canada. The schools
also have allowed people in the deaf community to have access to the same opportunities as members
of the hearing community have access to. The founding of the schools also has brought awareness to
the deaf community and deaf culture. A major deaf movement is the deaf president now movement.

Selective Breeding Research Paper
Selective Breeding is the process through which plants and animals with certain traits are bred
together to produce an offspring with desired traits. In other words, the process in which humans
choose the traits which they want in a plant or animal, and they breed them hoping for a plant which
can grow bigger, or maybe an animal which can be stronger. Selective Breeding is all about the
inheritance of genes and alleles. Scientists may breed individuals to their desired traits, whilst also
being aware of possible recessive genes. Chromosomes which carry genetic codes for an organism,
determine the features and characteristics of that organism. Each organism has different features and
characteristics, this is when selective breeding takes place, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

With dogs, selective breeding is of benefit so we can breed out diseases and breed dogs for different
purposes. Selective breeding in general means we can breed cows which can produce more milk or
chickens which can lay more eggs, because with a growing population we do need more food, this is
another reason as to way selective breeding is ethical in general as it is one of the buggiest advantages.
Selective breeding could be considered in ethical when used to cross breed dogs just for a cuter
appearance, whereas cross breeding dogs to make it stronger and faster is ethical and more beneficial
for dogs. This has a positive impact on society as dogs and in general selective breeding has many
benefits on people.
In conclusion, selective breeding does have its general advantages of eliminating diseases, removing
undesired traits, and an increased population, to also having it advantages in selective breeding in
dogs. But it can also have it disadvantages of animal discomfort, no control over the genes, and it can
also be time consuming and can risk inbreeding of organisms, and also having further disadvantages
in dogs, but it is done correctly and efficiently, selective breeding can make a big difference, to genes,
and the future generations of plants and animals

Summary Of Why I Travel By Alain De Botton
The short story by Alain de Botton, from 2002, takes place on the outskirts of Paris.
Firstly we are being presented to an elder French Duc, des Esseintes, who is our main and only
character. Des Esseintes lives by himself in a villa, and prefers to be alone rather than among others.
He rarely moves outside in public. Not since he once, in his younger days, went to a nearby village
which only made him detest people even more. Since then he has always been at his home. Until one
morning.
One day while reading a book by Dickens, the duc felt an intense desire to travel to London. He was
inspired by the book because it showed visions of the English life, which he wished to see and
experience.
So he decided to get his bags packed and take the train ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
and then I was planning a runaway .
Though, he also says that he actually never did want to travel I never wanted to travel (that s why it s
almost a opposition), but he was almost forced by the pressure.
Des Essenties is a person who keeps him to himself, and he s not that outgoing. He really rarely
travels abroad. He is the opposite of a traveller, because travelling seems very unnecessary, because
you can travel as weel at home.
In comparison to Why I travel On Anticipation is very differet and almost an opposition, because the
main charaters have different views on travelling.
The main subject or theme in the short story is the willing to travel, and it s described from one

Dame Folly Demonstrates The Nature Of Choices
Napoleon once said, Nothing is more difficult, and therefore more precious, than to be able to decide.
We all make choices every day, some more serious, and some less. Do I wear this shirt, or that one?
Do I eat that slice of cake or no? Do I start a conversation with that student? Do I choose to obey
God? The book of Proverbs highlights the vital nature of choices. In Proverbs 9, you see Lady
Wisdom inviting whoever bypassers to join her for a feast. At the same time, however, Dame Folly is
right there loudly persuading those same bypassers into her house Wisdom has built her house; she has
hewn her seven pillars. She has slaughtered her beasts; she has mixed her wine; she has alos set her

Apple Ipad And Its Impact On The Field Of Business...
Although there are multiple different brands of tablet computers out in the marketplace, the Apple
IPad is by far the most popular of all the different brands. The IPad pioneered the tablet market place
to what it is today. This groundbreaking device first hit store shelves on April 3rd, 2010. From day 1,
the iPad was viewed as more than just a consumer device. With apps like Apple s Keynote to give
presentations, the device was quickly embraced by professionals to show a slide deck to a colleague.
Whether in a conference room or at a restaurant table, the iPad is simply more convenient than a
laptop ever was, and as a result it was quickly grabbed by professionals to use for business purposes.
After that, it didn t take long for companies to see the potential for the iPad (Clevenger, Nathan. (
2011))
Overview of what to Expect
This report will examine all the benefits that the Apple IPad can contribute to in the field of business
communications. This report will not talk about the how much better the IPad is comparing it to other

Criminalization of Poverty in Capitalist America Essay
An anonymous poet in the 1700 s wrote about crime: The law will punish a man or woman who steals
the goose from the hillside, but lets the greater robber loose who steals the hillside from the goose. [l]
When talking about the greater robber it seemed particularly appropriate in the midst of the biggest
financial rip off in history of this country to think about the billions of dollars the Savings Loan
criminals stole, and about how most of them have gotten away with it. I thought about the complete
insanity of how this country defines crimes in society. If you steal $5 you re a thief, but if you steal $5
million you re a financier. Thirty percent of the wealth of this country is controlled by one half of one

Hence the power to define is an awesome power. It is the power of propaganda. It is the ability to
manipulate our ideas, to limit our agenda, to mold how we see, and to shape what we look at. It is the
power to interpret the picture we see when we look at the world for the American people in general,
and New Afrikans, in particular. It is the power to place the picture we see when we look at the world.
It is the power to place a frame around the picture, to define where it begins and ends. It is, in fact, the
power to define where our vision begins and ends, the power to create our collective consciousness.
That kind of social propaganda is not only tremendously powerful, but it is also mostly invisible. We
can t fight what we don t see. Most people accept the images and definitions that we have been taught
as true, neutral, self evident, and for always; so that the power to paint the future, to define what is
right and wrong, what is lawful and what is criminal, is really the power to win the battle for our
minds. And to win it without ever having to fight it. Simply said, it is hard to fight an enemy who has
an outpost in our minds. This indicates the need for revolutionary nationalists to develop a national
agitationpropaganda mechanism. Specifically, nationalist need a single national publication and organ
that represents the unified development of NAIM (The New African Independence Movement) to

Gun Violence And The United States Essay
Gun Violence in the United States
For many years there has been a growing controversy between two sides. The side that wants to take
away our right to have firearms and those that want to keep our rights in place. Because of this, gun
violence in the US varies from state to state, depending on current gun laws in each individual state.
States with the toughest gun laws are the states with the highest crime rates because of a victim
inability to protect themselves. One must also remember that Criminals will always have guns and that
safe zones are only safe for criminals. Achieving a delicate balance between owning guns and
criminals having guns is definitely a challenge.
While achieving a balance between a law abiding citizens right to own guns and keeping guns away
from criminals may be challenging, it is something we should all strive for. A victim s inability to
protect themselves or the one s they love, will always be an issue with certain laws. Those laws which
restrict gun ownership would essentially hinder one s ability to protect themselves and leave them
wide open for an attack. We have seen these stories in the news day after day. McDowall states,
Restrictions on carrying concealed weapons are among the most common gun control policies. (193).
When it comes to concealed carry, Mc Dowell states, These statutes limit who may have a deadly
weapon usually a handgun hidden on their person when outside the home. (193). On a daily basis, you

What Is The Relationship Between Of Mice And Men
Of Mice and Men, is a world famous novel which was written by John Steinbeck back in 1937. The
novel is mainly about George and Lennie and their life. But I am not going to write about that. I am
mainly going to focus on the characters which live on the ranch in the book (Crooks, Candy, Curley
and Slim).
These are the characters which work on the ranch:
Crooks takes care of the horses on the ranch. He has quite the history with those animals, the reason
why he is called Crooks is that a horse kicked him and that left him with a crooked back.
Crooks is the only black man on the ranch, therefore he lives alone in his own place in the barn with
the animals. Candy is in a similar position to Crooks, they are both rejected by the ranch hands,

every modern cook book contains the recipe, and every bakery offers some version of the cookie in

Difference Between Graphic Design And Typography
INTRODUCTION
This is a research paper about Graphic Design and Typography and the comparison of artists Paula
Scher and Neville Brody. Graphic design is the process of visual communication and problem solving
using one or more of typography, photography, and illustration. The field is considered a subset of
visual communication and communication design, but sometimes the term graphic design is used
synonymously. Graphic designers create and combine symbols, images, and text to form visual
representations of ideas and messages. They use typography, visual arts and page layout techniques to
create visual compositions. Common uses of graphic design include corporate design logos and
branding, editorial design magazines, newspapers, and books, wayfinding or environmental design,
advertising, web design, communication design, product packaging, and signage. Whereas
Typography is everywhere we look. It s in the books we read, on the websites we visit, even in
everyday life on street signs, bumper stickers, and product packaging.
But what exactly is typography? Simply put, typography is the style or appearance of text. It ... Show

Because typography is a key element of most designs, the choice of font is one of the most important
decisions a designer can make: it will make or break a design. Using fonts effectively is one of the
most important jobs of any graphic designer. These skills are essential as you begin to express yourself
through typography. Remember, graphic design is all about communication: always think about how
your message is conveyed through your choice of images and, most importantly, typography! Just like
Scher who has always aimed to create expressionist typography, and feels that words have meaning
and typography has feeling and combines the two, and Brody who has designed a number of well
known typefaces. You too can express your art through

Advantages And Disadvantages Of China In The 19th Century
Throughout history, China was viewed as one of the superpowers and its economic strength and
influence on other nations were vastly significant. Some say that China is becoming a center of the
world economically and militarily, however, during the 19th century, Chinese people actually believed
that China was the center the world and it was quite true. China experienced great benefits of being a
superior country than other countries, but later they faced some problems or disadvantages of being an
enemy against all the other nations, especially the West. In the early 19th century, China was
considered as the center of the world. Its massive production of manufactured goods (tea, porcelain,
furniture, etc) and excessive wealth led to explorations during the Ming dynasty. Emperor Chengzu
sent an explorer, Zheng He, to explore and observe through the Middle East, India, and Africa. Zheng

China and Britain traded goods, but one can say that it was almost China selling not trading . China
exported vast amount of goods to Britain, but at the same time, China refused to import nearly any
goods from Britain. This was problematic, it led to the Britain s proposal of opening more ports in
China which caused Qianlong Emperor to write a letter that condescended the British King. This
slowly angered the British people and it eventually worsen the relationship between China and Britain.
Few decades later, bad trade relationship led to outbreak of war called, the Opium War. At first, it was
only some smugglers who brought opium in China illegally, but later the poisonous drug affected
citizens working abilities and Chinese society. In order to stop British merchants from smuggling in
opium, Lin Zexu wrote a letter to Queen Victoria. The letter demanded the Queen to stop letting her
subjects from bringing in Opium to China, however, the letter was never delivered to Queen

The Sand Child Essay
In The Sand Child, Tahar Ben Jelloun composes a multi layered tale about Ahmed, a woman
socialized as a man, who struggles to reclaim her sexuality. Ben Jelloun contrasts gender and sexual
orientation to suggest that a person s characteristics can be shaped and changed by will, but his
sexuality is predisposed and will be the deciding factor of how he will act and identify himself within
his community. Ahmed, a product of society, is raised as a man and thus exhibits characteristics of a
man. To receive the privileges granted to men, Ahmed conceals her feminine physique by binding her
chest. Furthermore, her father trains her to be aggressive because society expects violence in men and
weakness in women. My father gave me a blow...and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even Ahmed becomes compliant as she finds her path to womanhood, further emphasizing that a
person s characteristics can be conformed. She says ...if I had been simply an ordinary girl. I believe I
would not have been able to live and accept what my sisters and the other girls in this country have to
endure. I don t believe I am better than they, but I sense within me such determination, such rebellious
strength, that I would probably have upset everything (119). However, her actions speak differently
from her words. As a developing woman, Ahmed, renamed Zahra, shows signs of meekness and
submission, in contrast to her previous ruthlessness, to the circus owner and her son. Zahra had given
up the use of speech. She wept, and the tears flowed down her face... (110). Zahra, once domineering,
is now compliant. Ahmed alters her personality because she, as well as the Islamic society, associates
womanhood with obedience. Although Ahmed is socialized as a man, her innate sexuality drives her to
reclaim her womanhood. As a child viewed by society as a boy, Ahmed shows no interest in the daily
lives of women. In the hammam with her mother, Ahmed says, I would get bored, but I had no choice.
In fact, I would have preferred to go to the baths with my father. He always bathed very quickly and
spared me all that interminable ceremonial (22). Ahmed shows no desire to associate with women
until after she marries Fatima. Fatima does not sexually

Compare And Contrast To Kill A Mockingbird And The Silver...
Many books and stories demonstrate the maturing of children by experiencing what life beyond
childhood is and how that affects their relationships and behavior. The stories To Kill a Mockingbird
and the Silver Star best show the effect of growing up through experiencing the realities of life. To
Kill a Mockingbird shows the maturity of a young girl named Scout who lives during the Great
Depression when her father takes the job of defending a black man. Even though The Silver Star does
not take place during the depression it still shows the maturity of two girls (Liz and Bean) when they

Although, they have this ideology, the Silver Star and To Kill a Mockingbird have two different
themes. The Silver Star shows a theme of courage and what it involves. It demonstrates the theme
when Bean and her sister stand up to a powerful mill owner: Maddox. The story also uses symbolism
to express the theme with the Silver Star, a medal that Bean s father had earned. It is used in the title to
represent the courage that the girls had to face throughout the book. The story shows what Bean
thought a Silver Star that her father received from war represented and thought that her sister had
deserved the star because of the bravery that she showed. In chapter 56 of the book, it states, I felt no
right to earn it (the silver star). Liz certainly had, not just for everything she d gone through but for
protecting me. This shows the bravery that Bean thought towards her sister and how it expresses the
theme. The story To Kill a Mockingbird, although, shows a theme that expresses innocents. This is
expressed in the book when a black man is put on trial for crimes that he did not commit, but was at
court because of the racism from the town. It also shows innocence with a character, Arthur Radley
that the town feared for rumors based on him, but were later proven false during the book. This shows
that the character was innocent, but people still feared him. The story, like the Silver Star, uses
symbolism through the title: To Kill a Mockingbird, in the story to portray the theme. The novel states,
Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit em, but remember it s a sin to kill a Mockingbird. This
shows how something that is innocent like a Mockingbird should not be killed. The themes that the
two novels depict, show the maturity of the characters in the story and what they learn throughout the

Solubility of a Salt
Introduction
Mixture is two or more materials that can be physically separated, and there are two types of mixture:
heterogeneous and homogeneous. In heterogeneous, the different components of the mixture can be
seen separately. However, homogenous is the term of mixture which all components stick together to
be uniform. Also, in a mixture we have solvent and solute. A solvent is the major part of solution
which dissolves the solute, and solute is the part of solution that is being dissolved. Therefore the
combination of solvent and solute is solution which is a type of homogenous mixture. For example, if
water is the solvent and lemon juice and sugar are the solute, lemonade is the solution. Also, every
solution has its own solubility which is the maximum amount of solute that will dissolve in a solvent
under certain condition. A solution can be saturated, unsaturated, and super ... Show more content on

The History Of Oppression Of African Americans
In 1992 a black man by the name of Rodney King was beaten extensively by police for speeding. The
officers did not serve time in jail, which was the straw that broke the camel s back. Many blacks living
in Los Angeles at this time took part in violent riots to show the US they would not take the abuse
anymore. Year after year, uprising after uprising, African Americans are promised to be seen as equal
to whites, given equal opportunities and be provided equal rights. However, things have still yet to
change. African Americans have been victims of oppression and have suffered immensely for nothing
other than existing. They are disregarded as being last on the social pyramid by the police, schools,
and employers.

Amistad Rebellion
The Mende captives aboard the Spanish ship, La Amistad, took a huge risk in July of 1839 when they

The Capture The story of the Amistad rebellion and court case starts when African people are captured

Comparing Marriage In Marie De France s Sir Gawain And The...
The medieval literary genre of romance deals, according to Cooper, with the subject matter concerning
love or chivalry, or both. (10) In Romances love and marriage, two matters often associated with each
other, are treated as two entirely separate things. In Eliduc by Marie de France and Sir Gawain and the
Green Knight, marriage is not done out of love, and keeping chivalric codes and promises is
paramount, even if it complicates extramarital affairs. In Marie de France s lai Eliduc the titular
character refrains from sleeping with his paramour because of his binding contract with his wife. The
marriage between Eliduc and Guildelüec is treated like a contract rather than a romantic relationship,
but Eliduc, being an honourable knight, has to adhere to chivalric codes and keeps his promise to stay
loyal to Guildelüec. Eliduc repeatedly doubts whether his affair with Guilliadon is morally sound
because of the implications it will have on his marriage. An example of this occurs between lines 300
and 326. Eliduc realises that he has fallen in love with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The setting of these scenes, the bed, has, according to Hahn, nothing to do with heterosexual passion,
but rather with the marriage contract between a woman and husband (224). Because Gawain and the

poem the lady claims that if she could choose, she would rather be married to Gawain than to her own
husband. It is clear that from the host s wife s perspective, marriage and love are two separate affairs.
By repeatedly attempting to seduce Gawain, the lady challenges his virtues, especially his courtesy
and his chivalry. When Gawain refuses to kiss her, she accuses him from being uncourteous. However
by kissing her, Gawain is breaking his chivalric code and his loyalty to his

Thomas Jefferson was the backbone for National Expansion in the United States. During Thomas

presidential decision was the purchase of Louisiana Territory (1803). A shocking 828,000 square miles
of land stretching from the Gulf of Mexico to Canada, from the Mississippi river to the rocky
Mountains. This nearly doubled the size of the United States. Shortly after purchasing the territory,
Jefferson set life to the Lewis and Clark expedition. In 1803 Jefferson commissioned the Lewis and

Aquinas Five Ways Essay
In Five Ways, written by Thomas Aquinas, the philosopher is argues that there is a god .He gives five
well rounded arguments to support his claim, as well as introducing rebuttals to possible objections of
his theory. He begins with his first argument that concludes the existence of god which focuses on the
force of motion. Aquinas goes on to explain that if something in motion was caused by something else
then that something else must have come from something which he identifies as nothing else . This
claim, that change must come from something and this line of change can not be infinite supports his
claim of a higher being or god for there must always be a reason for change. The second argument

god. The fifth and final argument argues that because we give things with no purpose or lack of
knowledge a purpose, there is a god for there must have been a thing which directed a being with the
intelligence to utilize a thing with none and this direction being given by god. Aquinas then ends his
claim with a rebuttal to his previous objections he list in the beginning of the article. Here he uses a
more direct approach of supporting his claim. The argument of why is there evil if there is a god? , is
shot down by the philosopher in a romantic way. Aquinas goes on to rebuttal that god in fact does not
allow evil and all evil will eventually produce good simply because god does not allow evil. He
finishes the article with a last rebuttal of the causation of nature. He claims that because the causation
for this is unreachable it must be traced back to god. Aquinas structures his arguments using the
socratic method, giving broad claims that many would support forcing them to then except his
conclusions for his five arguments for if you were to disagree then you would then be contradicting

The Historical Significance of Salt as Presented in the...
Since the early history of man, salt has always been nearby. Salt: A World History, written by Mark
Kurlansky, is describing the importance and the effects on history that salt has had over the thousands
of years of human history. Salt: A World History begins with a simple introduction, which explains
what content will be included in the book. Topics range from salt in the past, Greece, Rome, Egypt,
France, Germany, Poland, and Israel to recipes and instructions on making certain foods, and to the
etymology of words such as salary and salami: both which are stems of the word salt. The book is
divided into three sections, by specific periods of time. In the first section, Ancient China, Egypt, and
Rome are the focus, while in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Let cool in the water it was cooked in. Take out and trim. Put into baking pan, stick with cloves and

the reader. The book is filled with meaningful quotes, such as, Today, thousands of years of coveting,
fighting over, hoarding, taxing and searching for salt appear picaresque and slightly foolish.
(Kurlansky 13) Wars today are fought over land and money, never something as trivial as salt. But
thousands of years ago, salt was vital to human health. Chinese salt history begins with the mythical
Huangdi, who invented writing, weaponry, and transportation. According to the legends, he also had
the distinction of presiding over the first war ever fought over salt. (Kurlansky 18) This quote tells of
the importance of the Chinese, one of the first civilizations to use salt for industrialization. In the list

Causes and Effects of the Opiate Epidemic The novel, Dreamland by Sam Quinones, goes into depth
about the Opiate Epidemic in America. Quinones really focuses on a town called Portsmouth located

Portsmouth and took over the town and surrounding areas. The epidemic is not only in Portsmouth,

If Dr. Procter had the appropriate amount of time to spend with his patient and not tried to make the

group that Quinones focuses on in the novel which are the Xalisco Boys . The Xalisco Boys way of
drug dealing was very different for that of the Drug Cartel in various ways. The Xalisco Boys are
usually illegal immigrants from Xalisco, Nayarit. The Drug Cartel is any organization or group of
people who are involved in the drug deals. The best way to describe the way the Xalisco Boys do drug
deals is very similar to someone delivering something to your house like a pizza delivery. This is very
different from the traditional Drug Cartel because they usually meet up somewhere and not deliver it
to that person s house. The way of the Xalisco Boys was successful because it was not a suspicious

Depression in the Bible
Depression is defined as, a mood disorder marked especially by sadness, inactivity, difficulty with
thinking and concentration, a significant increase or decrease in appetite and time spent sleeping,
feelings of dejection and hopelessness, and sometimes suicidal thoughts or an attempt to commit
suicide (Merriam Webster). A close friend of mine battles depression and would describe it is, a
debilitating mood that makes it hard to get out of the bed in the morning, a desire to sleep all the time,
inability to experience joy, and apathy towards life. Due to its prevalent occurrence among several
people groups throughout history, depression is known as the common cold of mental illnesses and

Another imbalance that often causes biological depression is amine imbalance. Amines are the
neurotransmitters that float in the synapse between two nerve cells in the brain (Smith 3). The key
amines are serotonin and norepinephrine. When there is a decrease in the levels of these
neurotransmitters, depression often occurs. Biological depression is as common among Christians just
as it is common among the general population. However, it often goes undiagnosed due to dissenting
views held by many Christians regarding the causes of depression. Many in the church believe
depression is just all in the head. They believe it should be easily cured with a bible verse and slapping
on a smile. In most cases, it is just all in the head. Although for someone with biological depression, a
cure does not always come so simply. Many Christians adhere to beliefs regarding depression such as:
1. Depression is always the result of unconfessed sin.
2. Depression is always the result of lack of faith in God.
3. Depression can always be removed by spiritual exercises such as prayer and fasting.
4. Depression can be removed by making a choice to be happy (Smith 5).
It is crucial for pastors to realize that sometimes a depressed person is suffering from an actual
medical imbalance and needs to be treated as such. It is abundantly clear from current research that
certain kinds of depression have important biological roots and can be substantially relieved

services for military dependents. TRICARE not only replaced CHAMPUS but its purpose was also to
facilitate members with access to better health care. Unfortunately, TRICARE has gone through many
changes and upheavals since its inception in 1997. First, they began by dividing the company into
regions. Each member was placed into a region based on where the military member was stationed. If
the member was stationed in Maryland then his family belonged to the East Region. Unfortunately,
there were many problems with this plan. First, some military members and their families did not live

TRICARE has had many learning curves to overcome. In the beginning, the contractors were not
prepared to handle the amount of members that serve the United States Military. Also, they were
unprepared for the multitude of health issues that were plaguing the families. One such issue was the
Gulf War Syndrome which the United States Government was attempting to cover up. Over the years,
their service to members has improved but has a long way to go in order to compete with some of the
private health insurance plans that are available. Many families who have major health issues find it
more convenient to pay for private health insurance. This also allows for those families to get care
without going through the bureaucracy and red tape that surrounds TRICARE s policies.
However, not all has been lost. TRICARE is striving to succeed in providing optimal care for their
members. They have taken the initiative to enact new policies and benefits that allow for members to
see many private and local physicians and dentists. This has had a great impact on how TRICARE is
being perceived not only by their members but also the surrounding communities.

Two Theories Of Personality
Define Personality
A personality is a unique collection of attitudes, emotions, thoughts, habits, impulses and behaviors
that define how a person typically behaves across situations.
Explain in detail at least two theories of personality
Trait Theories: focus more on the biological aspects of personality. Traits are ways in which
individuals behave or react in most situations. Raymond Cattell proposed that there were 16 primary
traits. Individuals differ in the degree of possession which they have in a trait. There are five core
traits, most commonly known as the big five or OCEAN: Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion,
Agreeableness and Neuroticism. Openness is being thoughtful and rational, Conscientiousness is the
attention to detail, Extraversion is the outwardly directed energy, Agreeableness is how well an
individual gets along with others and Neuroticism is emotional instability. Hans Eysenck suggested
that there were only three traits: Psychoticism, Extroversion and Neuroticism.
Humanistic Theories: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Internal traits are stable across a lifespan and differ depending on the individual or particular trait or
both. The five factor trait theory allows persons to develop and be able to function properly. Genetics
affect personality development as some aspects of a personality may be inherited. This includes
adopted children being more closely linked to their adopted parents that their biological parents and
identical twins that are raised apart have similar personality traits. Most personality traits are
consistent and stable over time and little changes occur after the age of thirty as most persons
experiment during their childhood and teenage years. Age, culture and gender are major factors to
consider when discussing stability and change as it differs for each

Needle exchange programs are social services that allow injecting drug users to obtain intravenous
needles/syringes and associated equipment at little or no cost. It is based mainly on the viewpoint of
harm reduction that attempts to reduce the risk factors for diseases such as HIV/AIDS and hepatitis.
Needle exchange programs are authorized by the 2015 National H.I.V./AIDS Strategy for the United
States and the 2012 President s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief Blueprint. The increasing amongst
drug users can be reduced with the help of needle programs and additional programs that provide

Purpose for Needle Exchange Programs
Most people believe that if they approve of needle exchange programs to operate throughout their

to prevent the transmission of blood borne diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis C, but it also benefits
the communities in which they operate by keeping used needles/syringes off the streets, giving
homeless or unstably housed drug users alternatives to street involvement, and serving as a gateway to

Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is characterised by exaggerated and excessive anxiety and

For some patients suffering from GAD, results can be seen even before 12 weeks. Treatment methods
characteristically include reading about the problem and keeping records amid appointments, in
addition to completing assignments in the home (Mitte, 2005). Mitte (2005) relied on many aspects to
determine the effectiveness of CBT over Pharmacotherapy, gathering 65 control studies. The
durability of the outcomes was a key fact that the research relied on to make a conclusion concerning
the effectiveness of CBT. Mitte (2005) suggested that the outcomes of using CBT were long lasting,
compared to the use of medication. However, in a study conducted by Rynn, Russell, Erickson, Detke,
Ball, Dinkel, Rickels, Raskin (2006) found that Pharmacotherapy was, in fact, an effective method of
treatment for GAD patients. Patients who received the drug treatment over the placebo reported a

takes close to three months (Avdagic, Morrissey Boschen, 2014) and ERT around five months
(Mennin, Fresco, Ritter Heimberg 2015), CBT results can be visible between 12 16 weeks. However,
this could be a disadvantage, due to the short time which patients are exposed to treatment and the
chance of symptoms reoccurring. Although evidence exists of success using CBT for emotional
disorders like GAD, (Mitte, 2005), Mennin (2014) noted a sizeable subgroup of patients failing to

Binge watching is a popular term to describe how consumers interact with the service (Jenner, 2016).
This is due to how Netflix has differentiated itself from its competitors, especially early on. Netflix
was at the forefront of internet content streaming. The service allows viewers to watch high quality
content whenever and wherever they want. This was a huge change from before when consumers had
to subscribe to content channels such as HBO or Showtime through their cable provider and wait for a
show they like to come on. Netflix s competitors are Hulu and Amazon Prime, but Netflix is the clear
leader in the content streaming market. The iPhone 7+ targets its market by offering a top of the line
smart phone that is equipped with an efficient operating system. Their main competitor in the market
is Samsung. Apple has not done much in recent years to compete with Samsung, even purchasing
Samsung displays for their upcoming iPhone 8. However, in comparison to other competitors, the
iPhone 7+ positions itself by offering one of the best cameras, stereo quality speakers, and an HD
display. Edushape s Marublous Marble Run is more of a niche product. The product s overall design is

The Reaction Of The Alcohols
The alcohols 1 propanol and 2 pentanol were converted into alkyl halides through a certain series of
steps. The first step was reflux, and the purpose of reflux is to add energy to the solution and not lose
any solution to evaporation. This energy helps initiate the acid catalyzed dehydration reaction and also
promotes rearrangement. The next step was distillation, which functioned to separate liquids based on
boiling points. The distillation utilizes boiling points to separate the alkyl halide products from many
impurities that might exist. Reflux is the first step instead of distillation because refluxing allows the
reaction to progress. If distillation was performed first, separation would begin before the reaction was

For example, since the voltage adapter connected to the sand bath may not have been working
properly, inconsistent heating patterns could have proposed a problem during reflux. Also, a few extra
drops of water may have invaded the product while the flask was cooling in the ice bath during
distillation. Furthermore, it is possible that not all of the organic layer was drained out of the
separatory funnel during separation, and maybe the drying agent was not allowed enough time to
remove all of the water. Errors will always hinder the success of a reaction, which will greatly effect
the percent yield.
Infrared spectroscopy (IR) is a very useful tool that can read a molecule s functional groups from a
small sample. By monitoring the disappearance and appearance of certain groups, it is possible to
confirm wether compounds have formed. In this experiment, for example, the reactants are alcohols,
whose IRs will show a large and broad absorption around 3500 cm 1. These hydroxide groups are
eventually replaced during the reactions, and the final products will not contain any hydroxides.
Therefore, the IR of the products will not show the large and broad hydroxide absorption. Monitoring
the disappearance of the hydroxide stretch will allow the reaction progression to be monitored also.
The complete disappearance of this stretch will confirm that a new product has been formed.
However, IR

The Problems of Drug Addiction
Drug addiction A reasonable number of people do not understand why other people get addicted to
drugs. Some even associate drug abuse and addiction with lack of moral principles or willpower.
People subscribing to this school of thought believe that drug addicts can stop using drugs by simply
changing their behavior. They fail to realize that drug addiction is a complex disease whose
eradication calls for many things other than changing habits. Drugs basically change the way a human
brain works. Drug addiction like any other disease can be treated and addicts helped to lead productive
lives (Office of National Drug Control Policy, 2004). Drug addiction has far reaching ramifications on
individuals and society. It leads to decline in productivity and a surge in health and crime related costs.
In the United States, these costs exceed $600 billion annually. These costs include $181 billion for
illicit drugs, $193 billion for tobacco, and $235 billion for alcohol. These costs do not bring into
perspective the breadth of destructive public health and safety implication of drug abuse and addiction
like family breakages; loss of employment; failure in school; domestic violence; and child abuse
which are not factored in (Office of National Drug Control Policy, 2004). Decision to take drugs is
normally voluntary. However, changes in brain after protracted use makes one to loose self control and
ability to resist intense impulses that urges him to take drugs. Drug s

The paper aims at sensitizing designers towards the voices of every stakeholder involved in designing
a product that influences through the product life cycle, in a comprehensible way with an objective to
facilitate designer towards a better design. This paper discusses the basic purpose and nature of design
in the context of judging the aptness of a dialogue among the stakeholders including product in itself.
It also discusses the kind of outcome based on designers stand in the design process which makes the

is at a junction and he has to choose a path. He has to decide between economy and honor of material.
The decision, that designer takes, is case specific and depends on various other factors as the case

The decision of whether to go logical or intuitive is discussed by many authors and designers in many
ways, some supporting logical or rational views and others intuitive or art based. Kahn s quote

He rarely moves outside in public. Not since he once, in his younger days, went to a nearby village which only made him detest people even more. Since then he has always been at his home. Until one morning. One day while reading a book by Dickens, the duc felt an intense desire to travel to London. Criminalization of Poverty in Capitalist America Essay An anonymous poet in the 1700 s wrote about crime: The law will punish a man or woman who steals the goose from the hillside, but lets the greater robber loose who steals the hillside from the goose. It is the power to place the picture we see when we look at the world. It is the power to place a frame around the picture, to define where it begins and ends. It is, in fact, the power to define where our vision begins and ends, the power to create our collective consciousness. That kind of social propaganda is not only tremendously powerful, but it is also mostly invisible. We can t fight what we don t see. Most people accept the images and definitions that we have been taught as true, neutral, self evident, and for always; so that the power to paint the future, to define what is right and wrong, what is lawful and what is criminal, is really the power to win the battle for our minds. And to win it without ever having to fight it. Simply said, it is hard to fight an enemy who has an outpost in our minds. • 8. Gun Violence And The United States Essay Gun Violence in the United States For many years there has been a growing controversy between two sides. The side that wants to take away our right to have firearms and those that want to keep our rights in place. Because of this, gun violence in the US varies from state to state, depending on current gun laws in each individual state. States with the toughest gun laws are the states with the highest crime rates because of a victim inability to protect themselves. One must also remember that Criminals will always have guns and that safe zones are only safe for criminals. Achieving a delicate balance between owning guns and criminals having guns is definitely a challenge. While achieving a balance between a law abiding citizens right to own guns and keeping guns away from criminals may be challenging, it is something we should all strive for. A victim s inability to protect themselves or the one s they love, will always be an issue with certain laws. Ben Jelloun contrasts gender and sexual orientation to suggest that a person s characteristics can be shaped and changed by will, but his sexuality is predisposed and will be the deciding factor of how he will act and identify himself within his community. Ahmed, a product of society, is raised as a man and thus exhibits characteristics of a man. To receive the privileges granted to men, Ahmed conceals her feminine physique by binding her chest. It is used in the title to represent the courage that the girls had to face throughout the book. The story shows what Bean thought a Silver Star that her father received from war represented and thought that her sister had deserved the star because of the bravery that she showed. In chapter 56 of the book, it states, I felt no right to earn it (the silver star). Liz certainly had, not just for everything she d gone through but for protecting me. Aquinas goes on to explain that if something in motion was caused by something else then that something else must have come from something which he identifies as nothing else . The argument of why is there evil if there is a god? , is shot down by the philosopher in a romantic way. Aquinas goes on to rebuttal that god in fact does not allow evil and all evil will eventually produce good simply because god does not allow evil. TRICARE not only replaced CHAMPUS but its purpose was also to facilitate members with access to better health care. Unfortunately, TRICARE has gone through many changes and upheavals since its inception in 1997. First, they began by dividing the company into regions. Each member was placed into a region based on where the military member was stationed. If the member was stationed in Maryland then his family belonged to the East Region. Over the years, their service to members has improved but has a long way to go in order to compete with some of the private health insurance plans that are available. Many families who have major health issues find it more convenient to pay for private health insurance. This also allows for those families to get care without going through the bureaucracy and red tape that surrounds TRICARE s policies. However, not all has been lost. TRICARE is striving to succeed in providing optimal care for their members. They have taken the initiative to enact new policies and benefits that allow for members to see many private and local physicians and dentists. Explain in detail at least two theories of personality Trait Theories: focus more on the biological aspects of personality. Traits are ways in which individuals behave or react in most situations. Raymond Cattell proposed that there were 16 primary traits. Individuals differ in the degree of possession which they have in a trait. Openness is being thoughtful and rational, Conscientiousness is the attention to detail, Extraversion is the outwardly directed energy, Agreeableness is how well an individual gets along with others and Neuroticism is emotional instability. The durability of the outcomes was a key fact that the research relied on to make a conclusion concerning the effectiveness of CBT. Mitte (2005) suggested that the outcomes of using CBT were long lasting, compared to the use of medication. However, in a study conducted by Rynn, Russell, Erickson, Detke, Ball, Dinkel, Rickels, Raskin (2006) found that Pharmacotherapy was, in fact, an effective method of treatment for GAD patients. Patients who received the drug treatment over the placebo reported a dramatic reduction GAD symptom severity and maintenance (Rynn et al., 2006). The first step was reflux, and the purpose of reflux is to add energy to the solution and not lose any solution to evaporation. This energy helps initiate the acid catalyzed dehydration reaction and also promotes rearrangement. The next step was distillation, which functioned to separate liquids based on boiling points. The distillation utilizes boiling points to separate the alkyl halide products from many impurities that might exist. Reflux is the first step instead of distillation because refluxing allows the reaction to progress. Infrared spectroscopy (IR) is a very useful tool that can read a molecule s functional groups from a small sample. By monitoring the disappearance and appearance of certain groups, it is possible to confirm wether compounds have formed. In this experiment, for example, the reactants are alcohols, whose IRs will show a large and broad absorption around 3500 cm 1. These hydroxide groups are eventually replaced during the reactions, and the final products will not contain any hydroxides. Therefore, the IR of the products will not show the large and broad hydroxide absorption. Monitoring the disappearance of the hydroxide stretch will allow the reaction progression to be monitored also. The complete disappearance of this stretch will confirm that a new product has been formed. However, IR ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some even associate drug abuse and addiction with lack of moral principles or willpower. People subscribing to this school of thought believe that drug addicts can stop using drugs by simply changing their behavior. They fail to realize that drug addiction is a complex disease whose eradication calls for many things other than changing habits. Drugs basically change the way a human brain works. Drug addiction like any other disease can be treated and addicts helped to lead productive lives (Office of National Drug Control Policy, 2004). Drug addiction has far reaching ramifications on individuals and society. It leads to decline in productivity and a surge in health and crime related costs. In the United States, these costs exceed $600 billion annually. These costs include $181 billion for illicit drugs, $193 billion for tobacco, and $235 billion for alcohol. These costs do not bring into perspective the breadth of destructive public health and safety implication of drug abuse and addiction like family breakages; loss of employment; failure in school; domestic violence; and child abuse which are not factored in (Office of National Drug Control Policy, 2004). He has to decide between economy and honor of material. The decision, that designer takes, is case specific and depends on various other factors as the case might be. However, Geoffrey of Monmouth s account, the reliable and factual account called The History of the Kings of Britain, tells very little of Arthur s backstory but enough for comprehension. The two adaptions of Arthur s life have differences in that the development of Arthur s character in the film wasn t similar to Geoffrey s book; Merlin was aiding Arthur with his education and finally, according to the movie, the sword that made Arthur king was in an anvil over a large stone but Geoffrey says otherwise, and that there were two swords.
