The Eu And The European Union
Introduction
Formed from 28 Member States, the EU has developed an internal single market which enabled it to
control what happens in the Member States. The context in which the EU has developed has caused it
to be unique in comparison to all the others and through this essay I will demonstrate how the
characteristics and functions of the EU are found to be those only associated with the EU.
Creating EU Law
The European Union has aims which are to promote peace, maintain its values and maintain the
wellbeing of the people. Even though there are other organisations which also aim to do this, the EU is
unique as it has to balance the national interest, common interest of the EU, democratic representation
and also geographical representation. The EU has executive bodies which enable it to make decisions
throughout the process: the Commission, Council of Ministers and the European Parliament.
The Commission is the only institution inside the EU which has the power to draft new legislation. It
has the power to legislate in many areas across Europe, however there must be an establishment of
competence in order for the EU to rightfully legislate in a certain area. Article 2 of the TFEU outlines
whether it is the EU or the Member State which has the right to legislate in a certain area and therefore
the extent of the competence that the EU has. The Commission can either have exclusive (it is given
full power to legislate), shared (where the Member State can legislate as long as

Investment Parameters for a 5 Ply Automatic Corrugation Plant
INVESTMENT PARAMETERS FOR 5 PLY DOUBLE FACER PLANT
Automatic Corrugated Board Making Plant Analysis of its Viability in Current Economic Conditions
The best benefit of 5 ply plant is, you can deliver the boxes in dry condition much faster than the
single facer plant. If you have the kraft paper you can produce the boxes within one hour. The finish of
the boxes is better than the single facer box. Even with lower grammage paper you can produce better
boxes. The compression strength of 5 ply plant box is about 10% higher than the single facer box. This
is my experience. The labour requirement is less in the 5 ply plant and you can use 5 different types of

The Country of Venezuela
Venezuela one of the largest countries of south America was founded according to many historian by
Christopher Columbus who was on his third travel to reach the south America searching for gold.
Caracas, one of the most populated and most dangerous city in South America is the capital. Because
of the beauty and the economic potential that made this country one the most powerful economic attic
of the metropolis; it has been flatted by many Spanish travelers who settled their base there to grasp
the fruit of the economy. Simon Bolivar known as the liberator of South America engaged himself and
his troops in a battle for the freedom of the Venezuela. Therefore, in 1810 Venezuela has been declared
officially independence and became republic in 1830. Over the course of the years, this country has
known many political government with different ideology from the dictatorship of Juan Vincent
Gomez known as el bagre to Rafeal Cardera, the predecessor of Carlos Andres Perez. Venezuela has
known an economic momentum with the production of cocoa, coffee, cotton and oil. When Hugo
Chavez came to power in 1999, his goal was to reinforce that momentum economy in order to bounce
the social lower class. With that, he created a lot of social and economic opportunities for the lower
class in the name of socialism. The government of Chavez seeks to expand the socialism political
throughout the country in order to increase his popularity. The socialism system can be helpful for the

Celebrate The Ever-Evolving America Summary
How would it feel to not have off for christmas? For many Muslims who celebrate Eid al Fitr, and Eid
al Adha, this horror has been a reality for a very long time. In the article Celebrate the Ever Evolving
America , Lane Filler persuades us to see how important these holidays are for kids who celebrate
them, and that our culture of America embraces other cultures, and there is no reason why we should
not embrace these holidays. An important part of the article is when the author shows how not having
these days off can be bad for some students. The author quotes an individual who believes that we
need these days off. To take a day off... puts a child so far behind now... a struggle to choose between
their studies and taking off for Eid (lines 26 28). Even though Eid is an important holiday, some kids
may have to miss it for school. The words a struggle to choose truly shows how hard not having off
for this holiday is for kids, as they struggle to choose between school and religion. This quote not only
clearly shows the author s opinion, but it also allows us to get into the shoes of these kids and parents,
and see how they feel. Because of this, we can see how it would feel to miss an important holiday for

His tone shows this The coming America is going to be more ethnically exotic and religiously
diverse... It already is. And it ought to be (lines 40 41). The author refers to how we are already very
different from one another, and we should accept this change. When the author says It already is. And
it ought to be , he shows that he supports having off for this holiday for kids who need off for it. Not
only is the author s purpose of persuading us to agree with these changes shown, but it also shows that
we should support having off for Eid because of how America was built on culturally different people,
and we should welcome

Maryland Institute College Of Art Case Study
There are many outstanding colleges to attend for graphic design, however, the MaryLand Institute
College of Art stood out due to its major in teaching creative, technological, and intellectual skills to
pursue design. To begin, the Maryland Institute College of Art was founded in 1826, making it one of
the oldest art colleges in the United States. Along with being one of the most experienced and oldest
among art colleges, it is about 3 hours away from New York City and only 45 minutes from
Washington D.C (https://www.mica.edu/) . The importance to this is the ability to go to main cities
and study the architecture and construction involved in your curriculum. MICA costs around $53,600
dollars a year for a standard education including housing, books, and chosen classes. Another
interesting fact about MICA is that during the Civil War, the building was used briefly as a hospital for

There are many factors that play into my decision, but one is the price. The price of the school for a
single year is $53,600. If it is around $53,600 per year, four years attending the college adds up to
about $214,400. Another key factor is being so far away from my family. It would take approximately
10 hours by car to visit family from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Also, MICA does not have
a football team. I would enjoy going to a college where school spirit is present in day to day campus
life. After playing volleyball for four years, having a college volleyball team is a necessity. Even
though the campus is very beautiful, the art community seems very small. I would prefer a large,
energetic, friendly, campus that s as busy as a day is long. To summarize, the Maryland Institute
College of Art provides an extensive art education for visually inclined students along with a spacious
campus in a great

Annotation Of Langston Hughes Weary Blues
Langston Hughes the writer of this poem. He was born February 1, 1902, he died on May 22, 1967.
He grew up in Joplin, Missouri. There are a few interesting things that caught my eye as I was reading
about him, like he was raised by his grandmother, he started to have an interest in poetry in Lincoln,
he was working as a seaman at one point of time in his life, the poem Weary Blues was his first book,
he made his first novel in 1930, and last but not least he won a Harmon gold medal for literature. The
poem Weary Blues was published by him in 1926. Now here we go with the poem Weary Blues. It
only has one staza, that s it just one stanza. Since its only one stanza I found things within the lines
such as in lines one, two, four, and five they all have ten syllables. The poem does have a little bit of a
rhyme but there is no actual set rhyme scheme. The poem have a couple of repetition lines like, in the
poem he said he did a lazy sway.... He did a lazy sway..... which was showing that the man was
showing a type of interest in the music that was playing. Also there is another repetition which is O
Blues! but they are not back to back he just said that word about three times throughout the poem.
Which O Blues! is showing that somebody is in a sad type ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The type of figurative language that is happening is similes and onomatopoeia. Here is an example of
both the simile and the onomatopoeia that I spotted in the story. In lines 35 it says he slept like a rock
which is meaning that after playing all that music he was sleepy and every tired so he slept hard. Now
on line 23 it says Thump, thump, thump, went his foot on the floor which is showing a meaning of
him really getting interested into the music as the person plays it. The allegory of the poem is that he
wants people to know that there is a deeper meaning to the song that is playing at the moment of the

Analysis Of Alice Walker s The Color Purple
Thriving or Surviving: An In Depth look at Alice Walker s The Color Purple One might think that a
childhood of sexual violence, emotional abuse, and rape would make a character dark and embittered;
however, in Alice Walker s The Color Purple, the author explores the thin gray line that stands
between surviving and thriving. Manipulating her characters so that they are constantly crossing the
line back and forth. It is her protagonist, Celie, who imbues the reader with a pondering of the human
condition, allowing for an introspective look at empowerment. Framing this bildungsroman in the
form of letters, Walker s dramatic shifts reveal the religious and sexual bondage the protagonist is
chained to. In this novel, Walker uses the pain, sorrow, and abuse of Celie to demonstrate the constant
struggle that is waged between surviving and thriving in every shift of her life.
While Celie s childhood remains an abusive saga, one will find an undying sense of optimism.Walker
explores Celie s childhood which is lived primarily in survival mode. Celie s brutal upbringing gives
her a maternal authority, as the reader continuously sees the absence and resentment from her mother
And now I feels sick every time I be the one to cook. Mama always fussing at me and looking at me
(Walker, 1). A rape scene is used to open the book, which reveals that Celie has been impregnated by
her father. While the main character is unaware of her condition, her mother is completely aware. As

General Grain Theory
A variety of programs attempt to achieve the crime control goals established by general strain theory,
but none are explicitly drawn from general strain theory. Restorative justice programs are an example
of this. These restorative programs aim to impose less severe sanctions on offenders to reduce the risk
of offenders viewing their punishment as unjust. This is accomplished by making offenders aware of
the harm they caused and allow offenders to have a say in the sanction they are subjected to. The
offenders also have a voice in mediating with the community and victim of their crime, which in turn
helps teach them to cope with strains through legitimate, non criminal means (Agnew, 2006). These
strategies would be beneficial in allowing students to realize the emotional ... Show more content on

The main reason students resort to weapons carrying, criminal coping, according to general strain
theory is their lack of legitimate coping mechanisms. Schools should be required to teach and offer
students non criminal ways of coping with strains in their life. Teacher mediation would be one
effective strategy to help eliminate strains or effectively deal with strains. When students are suffering
from bullying rather than turning to weapons carrying as a coping mechanism, students should be
taught to inform their teachers of the strain and deal with it through mediation. Mediation is a way for
negative emotions to be expressed and potentially eliminate the negative stimuli of bullying from a
student s daily life. Drawing from restorative justice, which is influenced by general strain as theory,
this tactic for combating weapons carrying could be shown to be very effective. If utilized to its full
potential general strain theory can be combined with other criminological theories to produce effective
policy to oppose weapons carrying in

A Last Look At The Battle Of The Sexes
A Last Look at the Battle of the Sexes
The course readings have been an insightful and thought provoking look into evolutionary psychology
and the biological differences between the sexes and the extent to which some of those differences are
nothing but social constructs. Evolutionary psychology and genetics are both fascinating and in this
respect I found Adam s Curse: A Future Without Men by Bryan Sykes and The Moral Animal by
Robert Wright the most influential and thought provoking. The illusionary nature of social constructs
and the misleading messages they give us about gender roles was also beautifully illustrated in Pink
Brain Blue Brain by Lise Eliot and Woman: An Intimate Geography, by Nathalie Angier. The Trouble

The readings, especially Sapolsky s essays in The Trouble with Testosterone, showed me that this link
may not necessarily exist. In other words, our gender specific behavior is not hormonally derived,
such as male aggression being assumed to be an effect of high testosterone. This classic nature versus
nurture problem came up in other course readings but Sapolsky s witty, accessible, clear writing style
likely had much to do with making it all stick in my thoughts. It made me ponder how much of our
behavior is really biologically programmed and how much of it is a product, instead, of social
programming deliberate or otherwise. The arguments set forth in Pink Brain Blue Brain took Sapolsky
s restrained observations further, suggesting that small genetic differences between the sexes grow
larger and larger with maturity due to social conditioning. On the other hand, Eliot argues, wouldn t it
be better if boys were able to freely acquire beneficial feminine traits such as nurturing qualities, and
girls could freely acquire beneficial masculine traits such as being adept at mathematics or to speak
bluntly and directly. However, she stops short of condemning all differences between the sexes and I
think that was a good decision on her part because, as The Moral Animal

How Did Donatello Tell The Story Of The Annunciation
In your own words, explain how Donatello has told the story of The Annunciation in sculpture and
why contemporaries were so impressed with his achievement.
Donatello is considered to be one of the most influential artists of the 15th century. A
member of the innovative group of painters, architects and sculptors that revolutionised art in
Florence at the beginning of the 15th century, he succeeded in becoming perhaps the most successful
in his field due to his understanding of the aspects of classical sculpture and the creative and
emotive way in which he adapted them to his own works. In particular, his reliefs surpassed all
others of the time in terms of their dramatic effect and complexity of character placement ... Show

[3] The artist s eagerness to produce something as thoroughly all antica as possible, is evidently
responsible for the poor taste of this mixture of decorative features borrowed from various
monuments
The story of the Annunciation is one that focuses on the centuries long Islamic perspective of
judgement and expectation of others, especially women. Set during a period of time where the
sacred nature of a woman s purity was highly valued, the angel Gabriel s message to the Virgin
Mary was not one entirely void of danger and aprehension. An unwed mother would undoubtedly
be persecuted by her peers and this is the danger that Mary faced with the deliverance of the news.
Donatello s job was to not only create a skilled and beautiful piece of art but also to depict the
varying emotions of the scene in such a way as to convey to his audience the true story of the
Annunciation in all it s different aspects.
The placement of the figure of the Virgin is especially successful in displaying a sense of shock on
her part. Frightened by the appearance of the angel, she has delicately turned her body away from
him to the left while her right arm covers her left breast in surprise. He left arm hangs lower as she

If You Can Not Preach Like Paul
This hermeneutical journey report will highlight the Swing method provided by Nancy Lamers
Grossman in her book, If You Cannot Preach Like Paul. This particular sermon writing process
focuses on the scripture text John1:1 18, and it will be written and preached in a style that reflects
Anna Carter Florence s Testimonial Methodology.
Choosing the Text:
This particular sermon is being prepared for an evening vesper service on the first Sunday of Advent.
This will be the third service of the day for this particular congregation, and it will follow the morning
services, which will have been guided by the lectionary text for that day. For this particular service,
candle light, and light in general, is a main theme. The congregation will sit within the sanctuary, and
the only light will be from the candle light and Advent decoration. Also, this service is to help
congregation members prepare their hearts for the Advent season in its entirety. It is a service that
marks the beginning of an important journey. I chose the passage John1:1 18 in an attempt to meet the
two main needs that this service requires, light imagery and preparation for the coming of Jesus. The
light is significant in this text because the author refers to Jesus being the light for the world that sits
in darkness, which seemed to me to be a great place to start for this particular service. Additionally,
this passage is the gospel text for this upcoming Christmas Daily Text reading. I felt that if this is to

Sonnet 130 And Hyperbole
In this interpretation, I will be analyzing poetry written by Shakespeare including poetic terms and a
socio historical examination of the text. For this analysis, I will be discussing Sonnet 130 and the
poem All the World s a Stage. These poems by Shakespeare are both well known and very
representative of his literary style and his use of contrasting literary devices to paint a vivid picture for
the audience. Shakespeare is a unique and very deft user of language to tell stories that are
understandable to not only audiences from his time but our own as well. In the poem All the World s a
Stage, Shakespeare uses several poetic techniques to bring out existential questions in the reader s
mind. These techniques include smile, imagery and hyperbole. In this poem, Shakespeare argues that
the world is but a stage and men are the actors. This cynical view of the world is explained through
hyperbolic language and scenes throughout a representative life of a man, as told by Shakespeare.
Hyperbole is used when describing the life of the man in the story and the various actions and
behaviors of this man in general. These exaggerated physical descriptions and behaviors effectively
use the exaggerative qualities of hyperbole to evoke emotions of introspection and despair. I believe
that Shakespeare used hyperbole in this way to cause the reader to reflect on their own life and to be
more cognizant of their place in the grand scheme of things. This poetic device was likely used due to
the period that this poem was written in. During this time, most people were focused on surviving and
making sure they had enough to eat; rather than having the time to think about more existential and
ethereal matters, such as, is this the life that I want to be living. This likely has to do with the lack of
middle class opportunities for the average person during this time. This hyperbolic language is seen in
line 9 And shining...like snail. Line 12 Sighing like...woeful ballad. In these two lines Shakespeare
describes a young schoolboy that is disgusted with going to school. In the second line, he describes a
husband mentally exhausted and sighing in a obvious and exaggerated manner likely passive
aggressively. By describing the

Space Noise And The Separation Of Noise Generated Within...
The major acoustical issues in public buildings are concerned with the exclusion of outdoor noise and
the separation of noise generated within the buildings. This chapter will consider specific types of
public buildings in which acoustic designs are a matter of importance, such as schools, offices,
libraries, recreational buildings, hospitals and government buildings. To obtain a space free from the
annoyance of noise and excessive reverberation, a few step one could take would be as follows:
planning the build with consideration of noise insulation so that rooms which contain sources of
considerable noise level are separated from rooms that are required to silent; providing sufficient noise
insulation for rooms where silence is need as well as implementing sound absorption to reduces the
reverberation and noise created by that room to a more acceptable level. It is well to recognise that
uncontrolled noise in public buildings will diminish their utility
Since the dawn of the twenty first century, public school have shown more attention to acoustical
problems in part due to the increased use of open planning, more informal teaching methods and an
increased use of audio visual aids. Classroom acoustics should neither be too high nor too low, but
rather a balance of reflective finishes to aid teaching and absorptive finish away from the front of the
classroom to avoid sound blurring cross reflections. The UK recommendation on the decibel level in
classes is at 40dB however a

company B is not impacted by the exchange rate. If automobiles still sell at $15,000, Company A

Advantages Of A 40 Hour Work Week
One hour a day, two days a week. Pitter Pitter Pitter. Meet George Jetson.... Creators of the show The
Jetsons imagined that in the future, American workers such as George Jetson would hardly work in a
given week, even as little as one hour a day, two days a week. A less extreme prediction by British
economist John Maynard Keynes predicted in 1930 that in the year 2030, workers will only only work
about 15 hours per week. (Bregman) If asked whether they would want to work longer hours or have
more free time, most Americans today would want more free time. If a shorter work week is so
appealing, then why do we still put up with a 40 hour work week? Where is George Jetson? As
evidence from multiple other countries has shown, a shorter week could reduce unemployment,
improve productivity, and increase mental health standards, and the United States should discard the
current 40 hours a work system in exchange for a shorter, more practical one.
The current idea of a 40 hour work week has roots in American factories in the early 1900s. In
addition to their poor working conditions, American factory workers worked long hours. (Ortiz)
Workers formed labor unions, including the National Labor Union which advocated for eight hours for
work, eight hours for rest, eight hours for what we will. (Eberhardt) Even some businesses agreed that
the work week was too long, including the Ford Motor Company. In 1914, Henry Ford scaled back his
company s work week from 48 hours to 40 hours

A Tale Of Two Cities Chapter 3 Essay
The following extract from chapter three is an example of how the supernatural and the scientific are
continuously contrasting in the novel:
In your opinion there is a diabolical agency which makes Dartmoor an unsafe abode for a Baskerville
that is your opinion? At least I might go the length of saying that there is some evidence that this may
be so. Exactly. But surely, if your supernatural theory be correct, it could work the young man evil in
London as easily as in Devonshire. A devil ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this part, he shows incredulity and thinks that such thing must be the work of something
supernatural. Watson s comparison of Holmes and the people living in the Dartmoor enhances again
this contrast between the city detective who appeals more to science and the superstitious servants that
give paranormal meanings to the howl of a dog. A contradiction with Watson s ideas can also be seen
in this extract. He first claims to have common sense and that is what makes him deny the existence of
the hound, but then after reflecting on what he had heard, he justifies this saying that facts are facts
and this generates doubts and confusion in his mind. It is important to notice how Doyle develops a
mysterious and frightening scene in our minds the moment we imagine how terrifying must be to hear
such sound that even Watson, another man of science, starts to doubt about the existence of this
enigmatic and evil

Brown V Ferguson Case
As it neared one hundred years after the onset of the interstate conflict which centered around slavery
s place in the United States, black citizens were still deprived of the rights guaranteed to all Americans
by the equal protection clause of the fourteenth amendment, prompting the premier civil rights
organization, the NAACP, to seek equality through the most logical method, overruling the legal base
of the institution. The Brown v. Board ruling in 1954 seemed to be the death knell of segregation
wrought by the 1896 Plessy v. Ferguson case. Unfortunately the movement of mass resistance proved
to be able to out maneuver law, particularly in the south, thanks to segregationist majorities holding
legislative, executive, and law enforcing power. To force the judicially mandated desegregation on

ally of UGA Charles Bloch published a book title state s rights: the Law of the Land, (pg. 50),
allowing him to give legal counsel having literally written the book on the subject. UGA officials, of
course, asserted that they maintained impartiality in regards to race when making their decision,

Mental Illness In Gran Torino
Our experiences shape who we are. Gran Torino by Clint Eastwood is a moving film that depicts
topics such as racism, mental illness and sacrifice in a modern setting without sugarcoating. In the
film, korean war veteran and curmudgeon Walt Kowalski becomes an unexpected hero and father
figure to nextdoor neighbour Thao Lor. Gran Torino begins in a funeral home, where protagonist Walt
is mourning the death of his spouse, grimacing at the reality of being widowed and the disrespect of
his children and their families. After the death of his wife, Mr. Kowalski does little other than drink his
weight in beer daily and make critical comments towards his neighbours and surrounding community.
Besides the company of his yellow labrador Daisy, Walt is alone with his thoughts. Because Walt
acquired racism through experience where the race he discriminates was an enemy in reality, it is not
truly one of his traits and can be undone as he is human and is able to overcome his mental illness,
which is the reasoning for his intolerance. Initially, Walt is racist because he has been trained not to
trust koreans and will not be bothered to distinguish the difference between who he had fought and his
neighbours. He struggles to realize that he is no longer at war and mentally is unable to move on from
that state of mind. In a scene following Walt s first threat towards the gang, it is evidently identified
that he is still living in the past through an interaction between him and Father

How The Development Of Outdoor Play Is Supported Through...
1.5 Explain how the development of outdoor play is supported through the combination
Benefits of child initiated play
There are many advantages to child initiated play. Children s emotional development is particularly
supported because children are able to make their own choices. They also gain independence skills as
they can help themselves to resources. This type of play helps children to be creative as they have to
develop their own ideas of how to play indoors and outdoors.
Concentration many adults notice that children concentrate for quite long periods during child initiated
play. It is not uncommon for 3 and 4 year olds to focus for an hour or so on making models, creating
dens or just playing with sensory materials. Children often have a clear purpose and idea of what they
are doing and why. Being able to concentrate for long periods is good for children s cognitive
development.
Social skills By playing independently of adults, children have the chance to practise their social
skills. They might squabble or raise their voices at times, but most children from 3 years or so are able
to work things out themselves. Learning to take turns and cooperate helps children s social skills.
Benefits of adult led play
There are many reasons why early years settings provide adult led play. Adult led play enables
children to learn new skills and concepts. Adult led play is also used so that children can learn
specifi¬c skills and concepts. By playing an outside board

The Definitions Of Pragmatics
Pragmatics is a field of study appeared in the late sixties and early seventies. It is the branch of
linguistics concerned with language use, which deal with the form and meaning of sentences
respectively (Ninio and Snow, 1996, p.9). Hence, pragmatics is usually associated with utterance and
speaker meaning. Some definitions of pragmatics stress different views and perspectives will help us
to understand this field.
Mey (2001), pragmatics is the use of language in human communication as determined by the
conditions of society (p.6). Blum Kulka and Kasper (1993) are defined that as the study of people s
comprehension and production of linguistic action in context. As for Leech (1983), described

the appeals used in order to tell help people see what a high demand for products can do. For example
the author uses logos in order to explain to us how we are able to get goods so fast from cheap labor.
In the article it states The reason we have fast fashion is the cheap exploited labor around the world,
said Cline. She estimates that less than 10% of what we re wearing... was made in factories where
people were paid a living wage and working in safe and legal conditions. This explains that we rarely
wear clothes that was produced from safe and good paying factories. As consumers we should turn the
heat down and let it simmer for a minute. Is it really fair to workers who make most of our clothes?
Scafidi also states Yet with the demand for fast fashion an all time high, more and more clothes are
being made in the kinds of conditions that morally offend a lot of people in the Western world and
without these kinds of well publicized tragedies, shoppers don t even think about it. Scafidi displays
the use of pathos in order to help us feel and understand that we do not agree or support how people
are enrolled into harsh labor , yet we continue and fail to realize what is going on until tragedies like
the Bangladesh factory collapse occurs. As consumers Scafidi wants us

The Lesson And Orientation In The Lesson, By Toni Cade...
Literary Analysis of the Lesson Orientation In The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara, the underlying
theme is education, where the provision of learning and understanding occurs outside the typical
classroom environment. It is important to note that the most striking thingabout Ms. Moore is her
superlative academic achievement, making her stand out from other women in the community. The
lady is so supportive of education that she offers to give the children a practical lesson, contrary to
their specifications. Summer season is known for holidays, which is not the case for the group of

The protagonist was so motivated to teach the children such that she accompanied the students even
when school was out of session. Sylvia is the antagonist in this story, owing to the way in which the
youngster differentiated her values from Ms. Moore s. Sylvia used her interaction skills to sway the
group s attention away from the teacher, particularly at the endof the story when she slipped out of the
group in search of chocolate (Bambara 6). To add salt to injury, Sylvia wasted no time in returning the
lion s share of Ms. Moore s money, seeing the opportunity to buy chocolates and other confectionary.
The exposition of the story lies in the rising wave of inequality, especially among African American
communities. The rising action in the story is when the children get busy ogling at the expensive toys
on display, which builds the tension associated with poverty. Alternatively, the story s climax is when
thestudents realize the moral of the lesson, which is economic inequality within urbanareas. The
falling action occurs when Sylvia and Sugar tear away from the group in search of the ill gained
confectionary. The denouement of the story is when the children realize the value of money and its
impact on society. Such a scene is present when the children began thinking of different ways the
exorbitant prices could change their lives, such as

The Battle Of Elsenborn Ridge
Battle of Elsenborn Ridge
The winter in the Ardennes is very cold; American Soldiers beaten, bloodied and depleting in
numbers. Germany has massed their best Soldiers from the Twelfth SS Panzer Division fielding the
newest and deadliest Armored Fighting vehicles the world had ever seen. However, the Americans
have an ace in the hole, The United States Army Field Artillery has made some historic and very
deadly innovations. In order to defend the Northern shoulder from being overrun by the 1st SS Panzer
Corps and the 67th Corps, the 405th FA Battalion must utilize their fortified fighting positions to
capitalize on the advancing enemy, synchronize and mass their firing capability, and utilize a newly
developed secret weapon called the Proximity Fuze to prevent the German forces from obtaining a
supply through the Twin Villages.
For seven days, the Battle of Elsenborn Ridge was valorously held by the artillery forces and Infantry
forces of the United States Army. (Starmann R. , 2015). This battle was the greatest crushing victory
of the Ardennes valley and is the only part of the Battle of the Bulge line where the Germans failed to
advance. (Starmann R. , 2015). From this ridge, the United States forces were extremely trenched in.
They used the few days leading up to this battle to maneuver more units to the ridge to help protect the
Germans from securing the two villages. These villages were critical to the Germans because without

considered is a criminal prosecutor. A criminal prosecutor is an attorney that tries to convict a so
called criminal and continuously argues their point to a jury to prove the assailant is guilty.
Georgetown is a very traditional law school that requires a future lawyer to pass the LSAT just to get

To become a prosecutor, one must have gone through law school and passed the state bar exam. Law
school may sound intimidating, but that is one of the first steps to entering into the world of law.
Unlike most professions a bachelor s degree is required before entering law school. When getting the
bachelor s an assortment of options are at play. A degree in political science, English, or philosophy is
probably one s best options when choosing a degree. This will take about four years to complete.
Following one s bachelor s degree is passing the LSAT. LSAT stands for Law School Admissions Test,
and this test needs to be taken before applying to a good law school like Georgetown, Stanford, or
Harvard. Seven years of one s life goes into getting the proper education leading to them being a
criminal prosecutor, not including training for the job. After about seven years of a future criminal
prosecutor s life one still has to interview for the job and to be a prosecutor one must meet the
requirements. One of the requirements is the ability to talk in front of some people and able to
possibly interview witnesses on their witness list. Going back to work hours, being on call is immense
because at any time one might be called to get a subpoena or warrant. A warrant is a written issue to
arrest someone or to search the desired area or get DNA. A subpoena is a written order forcing
someone to attend court. These two things play a significant role in the art of law, and one needs to be
there to get them. Passing the state bar exam is huge when becoming a lawyer because if one doesn t
pass then one doesn t have the right to practice law and that is illegal. Communication is one of the
personal attributes. Communication is key because one is going to have to talk to all parties involved
with the case and to negotiate deals. Most people are taught how to speak

A School Administrator For A Paper I Am A Great...
One of our teachers walked into my office a few months back and asked me
I need to interview a school administrator for a paper I m writing. Could you help me? (the unspoken
other part of this opening statement clearly being that the principal was in a meeting and, with the
assignment being due that evening, I represented a lack of other options). I agreed, and as he took a
seat and I swept some stacks of classroom data and notes from between us, he started out with his first
question:
So, what does it take to be a great administrator?
Rather than immediately ply him with the standard pablum of assessment data cycles , data centered
leadership and dynamic stakeholder involvement that all leadership textbooks, far removed professors
of administration, and seemingly further removed bureaucratic departments preach as gospel, I sat
back and thought for a second before responding.
You re a teacher. What do YOU think makes a great administrator?
What followed was a rich and organic discussion made all the better because I had delegated the effort
of a response, which both allowed the teacher an opportunity to share his thoughts with me while
simultaneously couching the whole exercise within the framework of stakeholder feedback , which
would look good on my evaluation later in the year. I am brilliant.
The traits that we discussed are not unique, nor are they earth shattering, and as with any list there is
room for additions. However, I would say that these

The additional revenue generated by the additional sale of K Cups would offset the losses incurred by
lowering the prices of the brewers. Another opportunity that Keurig could take advantage of is to
license additional coffee roasting companies to package their products in K Cups. Keurig s revenues
would increase as a result of the increased royalties paid by the licensed roasters, and the increase in
variety may motivate more coffee consumers to purchase a Keurig single cup brewer. Additionally,
Keurig could seek to increase the number of office coffee system distributors that distribute Keurig s
products. Lastly, Keurig could effectively publicize its involvement with socially and environmentally
responsible causes in order to improve brand image and increase brand awareness.
Threats
The most obvious threat right now is the difficult consumer economy that may lead consumers to cut
back on their spending causing a decrease in demand for Keurig s premium priced products. The price
fluctuations of coffee represent another threat to Keurig s competitiveness. In May 2008, Green
Mountain Coffee implemented its first prices increase since 2005. The 8 to 12 percent increase on
coffee products was the result of several factors, including a sharp escalation in the price of green
coffee, increases in other raw materials, and higher energy and fuel costs. Keurig

Schick Razor Commercials Advantages And Disadvantages
Per current societal norms, all people are expected to shave at least one part of their body. Your
perceived gender determines how much one is expected to shave; for example, women are expected to
remove more hair than men are. Many companies take advantage of this norm, but the leading
enforcer of the rule is razor companies. Schick razor commercials are no exception. The company
produces razors and advertisements for the gender specific razors for men or women, and their
commercials are noticeably different depending on their target audience.
In different commercial targeted to women created by Schick, all the women were shown to be doing
different tasks. The first commercial picture a pink razor robot battling a jungle to refuel its hydrating
gel pockets, and shortly after transforms back to a razor ready to serve its owner by shaving her leg on
the side of a bathtub. This commercial entertaining, but was also based on the theory that all women
should be viewed as independent, yet girly at the same. The second commercial showed very thin
women standing in front of small bushes that were supposed to represent their own pubic hair. Two
women were given rusty scissors, and one was given a special Schick trimmer. After completing their
task, the Schick bush ended in the shape of a heart, and the remaining women glared enviously at the
clean cut bush. Again, this is based in the fact that women must be clean shaven no matter where the
area is. Finally, in commercial three, a girlfriend is pictured rushing around her apartment while trying
to clean and shave at the same time to prepare for the introduction of her boyfriend s mother. Once
more, the razor company shows how women are expected to be fully shaved for important events. Of
the tree, all the commercials were pictured in bright colors with girls conforming to the expectation
that all their natural body hair must be kept under wraps, if no completely removed.
The men s commercials were an entirely different scenario. The first men s commercial pictured a boy
in a laundromat who started to flirt with the only girl there, who started a laundry fight with him. The
shirt turned to water when it hit the boy to symbolize the hydration that the razor brought

  • 2. The Eu And The European Union Introduction Formed from 28 Member States, the EU has developed an internal single market which enabled it to control what happens in the Member States. The context in which the EU has developed has caused it to be unique in comparison to all the others and through this essay I will demonstrate how the characteristics and functions of the EU are found to be those only associated with the EU. Creating EU Law The European Union has aims which are to promote peace, maintain its values and maintain the wellbeing of the people. Even though there are other organisations which also aim to do this, the EU is unique as it has to balance the national interest, common interest of the EU, democratic representation and also geographical representation. The EU has executive bodies which enable it to make decisions throughout the process: the Commission, Council of Ministers and the European Parliament. The Commission is the only institution inside the EU which has the power to draft new legislation. It has the power to legislate in many areas across Europe, however there must be an establishment of competence in order for the EU to rightfully legislate in a certain area. Article 2 of the TFEU outlines whether it is the EU or the Member State which has the right to legislate in a certain area and therefore the extent of the competence that the EU has. The Commission can either have exclusive (it is given full power to legislate), shared (where the Member State can legislate as long as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Celebrate The Ever-Evolving America Summary How would it feel to not have off for christmas? For many Muslims who celebrate Eid al Fitr, and Eid al Adha, this horror has been a reality for a very long time. In the article Celebrate the Ever Evolving America , Lane Filler persuades us to see how important these holidays are for kids who celebrate them, and that our culture of America embraces other cultures, and there is no reason why we should not embrace these holidays. An important part of the article is when the author shows how not having these days off can be bad for some students. The author quotes an individual who believes that we need these days off. To take a day off... puts a child so far behind now... a struggle to choose between their studies and taking off for Eid (lines 26 28). Even though Eid is an important holiday, some kids may have to miss it for school. The words a struggle to choose truly shows how hard not having off for this holiday is for kids, as they struggle to choose between school and religion. This quote not only clearly shows the author s opinion, but it also allows us to get into the shoes of these kids and parents, and see how they feel. Because of this, we can see how it would feel to miss an important holiday for whatever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His tone shows this The coming America is going to be more ethnically exotic and religiously diverse... It already is. And it ought to be (lines 40 41). The author refers to how we are already very different from one another, and we should accept this change. When the author says It already is. And it ought to be , he shows that he supports having off for this holiday for kids who need off for it. Not only is the author s purpose of persuading us to agree with these changes shown, but it also shows that we should support having off for Eid because of how America was built on culturally different people, and we should welcome ... • 7. Maryland Institute College Of Art Case Study There are many outstanding colleges to attend for graphic design, however, the MaryLand Institute College of Art stood out due to its major in teaching creative, technological, and intellectual skills to pursue design. To begin, the Maryland Institute College of Art was founded in 1826, making it one of the oldest art colleges in the United States. Along with being one of the most experienced and oldest among art colleges, it is about 3 hours away from New York City and only 45 minutes from Washington D.C (https://www.mica.edu/) . The importance to this is the ability to go to main cities and study the architecture and construction involved in your curriculum. MICA costs around $53,600 dollars a year for a standard education including housing, books, and chosen classes. Another interesting fact about MICA is that during the Civil War, the building was used briefly as a hospital for wounded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many factors that play into my decision, but one is the price. The price of the school for a single year is $53,600. If it is around $53,600 per year, four years attending the college adds up to about $214,400. Another key factor is being so far away from my family. It would take approximately 10 hours by car to visit family from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Also, MICA does not have a football team. I would enjoy going to a college where school spirit is present in day to day campus life. After playing volleyball for four years, having a college volleyball team is a necessity. Even though the campus is very beautiful, the art community seems very small. I would prefer a large, energetic, friendly, campus that s as busy as a day is long. To summarize, the Maryland Institute College of Art provides an extensive art education for visually inclined students along with a spacious campus in a great ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Annotation Of Langston Hughes Weary Blues Langston Hughes the writer of this poem. He was born February 1, 1902, he died on May 22, 1967. He grew up in Joplin, Missouri. There are a few interesting things that caught my eye as I was reading about him, like he was raised by his grandmother, he started to have an interest in poetry in Lincoln, he was working as a seaman at one point of time in his life, the poem Weary Blues was his first book, he made his first novel in 1930, and last but not least he won a Harmon gold medal for literature. The poem Weary Blues was published by him in 1926. Now here we go with the poem Weary Blues. It only has one staza, that s it just one stanza. Since its only one stanza I found things within the lines such as in lines one, two, four, and five they all have ten syllables. The poem does have a little bit of a rhyme but there is no actual set rhyme scheme. The poem have a couple of repetition lines like, in the poem he said he did a lazy sway.... Analysis Of Alice Walker s The Color Purple Thriving or Surviving: An In Depth look at Alice Walker s The Color Purple One might think that a childhood of sexual violence, emotional abuse, and rape would make a character dark and embittered; however, in Alice Walker s The Color Purple, the author explores the thin gray line that stands between surviving and thriving. Manipulating her characters so that they are constantly crossing the line back and forth. It is her protagonist, Celie, who imbues the reader with a pondering of the human condition, allowing for an introspective look at empowerment. Framing this bildungsroman in the form of letters, Walker s dramatic shifts reveal the religious and sexual bondage the protagonist is chained to. In this novel, Walker uses the pain, sorrow, and abuse of Celie to demonstrate the constant struggle that is waged between surviving and thriving in every shift of her life. While Celie s childhood remains an abusive saga, one will find an undying sense of optimism.Walker explores Celie s childhood which is lived primarily in survival mode. Celie s brutal upbringing gives her a maternal authority, as the reader continuously sees the absence and resentment from her mother And now I feels sick every time I be the one to cook. Restorative justice programs are an example of this. These restorative programs aim to impose less severe sanctions on offenders to reduce the risk of offenders viewing their punishment as unjust. This is accomplished by making offenders aware of the harm they caused and allow offenders to have a say in the sanction they are subjected to. The offenders also have a voice in mediating with the community and victim of their crime, which in turn helps teach them to cope with strains through legitimate, non criminal means (Agnew, 2006). This classic nature versus nurture problem came up in other course readings but Sapolsky s witty, accessible, clear writing style likely had much to do with making it all stick in my thoughts. It made me ponder how much of our behavior is really biologically programmed and how much of it is a product, instead, of social programming deliberate or otherwise. The arguments set forth in Pink Brain Blue Brain took Sapolsky s restrained observations further, suggesting that small genetic differences between the sexes grow larger and larger with maturity due to social conditioning. On the other hand, Eliot argues, wouldn t it be better if boys were able to freely acquire beneficial feminine traits such as nurturing qualities, and girls could freely acquire beneficial masculine traits such as being adept at mathematics or to speak bluntly and directly. I chose the passage John1:1 18 in an attempt to meet the two main needs that this service requires, light imagery and preparation for the coming of Jesus. For this analysis, I will be discussing Sonnet 130 and the poem All the World s a Stage. These poems by Shakespeare are both well known and very representative of his literary style and his use of contrasting literary devices to paint a vivid picture for the audience. Shakespeare is a unique and very deft user of language to tell stories that are understandable to not only audiences from his time but our own as well. In the poem All the World s a Stage, Shakespeare uses several poetic techniques to bring out existential questions in the reader s mind. These techniques include smile, imagery and hyperbole. In this poem, Shakespeare argues that the world is but a stage and men are the actors. This cynical view of the world is explained through hyperbolic language and scenes throughout a representative life of a man, as told by Shakespeare. Hyperbole is used when describing the life of the man in the story and the various actions and behaviors of this man in general. These exaggerated physical descriptions and behaviors effectively use the exaggerative qualities of hyperbole to evoke emotions of introspection and despair. I believe that Shakespeare used hyperbole in this way to cause the reader to reflect on their own life and to be more cognizant of their place in the grand scheme of things. This poetic device was likely used due to the period that this poem was written in. During this time, most people were focused on surviving and making sure they had enough to eat; rather than having the time to think about more existential and ethereal matters, such as, is this the life that I want to be living. This likely has to do with the lack of middle class opportunities for the average person during this time. This hyperbolic language is seen in line 9 And shining...like snail. Line 12 Sighing like...woeful ballad. In these two lines Shakespeare describes a young schoolboy that is disgusted with going to school. In the second line, he describes a husband mentally exhausted and sighing in a obvious and exaggerated manner likely passive aggressively. By describing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The major acoustical issues in public buildings are concerned with the exclusion of outdoor noise and the separation of noise generated within the buildings. This chapter will consider specific types of public buildings in which acoustic designs are a matter of importance, such as schools, offices, libraries, recreational buildings, hospitals and government buildings. To obtain a space free from the annoyance of noise and excessive reverberation, a few step one could take would be as follows: planning the build with consideration of noise insulation so that rooms which contain sources of considerable noise level are separated from rooms that are required to silent; providing sufficient noise insulation for rooms where silence is need as well as implementing sound absorption to reduces the reverberation and noise created by that room to a more acceptable level. It is well to recognise that uncontrolled noise in public buildings will diminish their utility Since the dawn of the twenty first century, public school have shown more attention to acoustical problems in part due to the increased use of open planning, more informal teaching methods and an increased use of audio visual aids. Classroom acoustics should neither be too high nor too low, but rather a balance of reflective finishes to aid teaching and absorptive finish away from the front of the classroom to avoid sound blurring cross reflections. Creators of the show The Jetsons imagined that in the future, American workers such as George Jetson would hardly work in a given week, even as little as one hour a day, two days a week. A less extreme prediction by British economist John Maynard Keynes predicted in 1930 that in the year 2030, workers will only only work about 15 hours per week. (Bregman) If asked whether they would want to work longer hours or have more free time, most Americans today would want more free time. If a shorter work week is so appealing, then why do we still put up with a 40 hour work week? Where is George Jetson? As evidence from multiple other countries has shown, a shorter week could reduce unemployment, improve productivity, and increase mental health standards, and the United States should discard the current 40 hours a work system in exchange for a shorter, more practical one. The current idea of a 40 hour work week has roots in American factories in the early 1900s. In addition to their poor working conditions, American factory workers worked long hours. (Ortiz) Workers formed labor unions, including the National Labor Union which advocated for eight hours for work, eight hours for rest, eight hours for what we will. • 38. A School Administrator For A Paper I Am A Great... One of our teachers walked into my office a few months back and asked me I need to interview a school administrator for a paper I m writing. Could you help me? (the unspoken other part of this opening statement clearly being that the principal was in a meeting and, with the assignment being due that evening, I represented a lack of other options). I agreed, and as he took a seat and I swept some stacks of classroom data and notes from between us, he started out with his first question: So, what does it take to be a great administrator? Rather than immediately ply him with the standard pablum of assessment data cycles , data centered leadership and dynamic stakeholder involvement that all leadership textbooks, far removed professors of administration, and seemingly further removed bureaucratic departments preach as gospel, I sat back and thought for a second before responding. You re a teacher. What do YOU think makes a great administrator? What followed was a rich and organic discussion made all the better because I had delegated the effort of a response, which both allowed the teacher an opportunity to share his thoughts with me while simultaneously couching the whole exercise within the framework of stakeholder feedback , which would look good on my evaluation later in the year. I am brilliant. The traits that we discussed are not unique, nor are they earth shattering, and as with any list there is room for additions. However, I would say that these ... The additional revenue generated by the additional sale of K Cups would offset the losses incurred by lowering the prices of the brewers. Another opportunity that Keurig could take advantage of is to license additional coffee roasting companies to package their products in K Cups. Additionally, Keurig could seek to increase the number of office coffee system distributors that distribute Keurig s products. • 41. Schick Razor Commercials Advantages And Disadvantages Per current societal norms, all people are expected to shave at least one part of their body. Your perceived gender determines how much one is expected to shave; for example, women are expected to remove more hair than men are. Many companies take advantage of this norm, but the leading enforcer of the rule is razor companies. Schick razor commercials are no exception. The company produces razors and advertisements for the gender specific razors for men or women, and their commercials are noticeably different depending on their target audience. In different commercial targeted to women created by Schick, all the women were shown to be doing different tasks. The first commercial picture a pink razor robot battling a jungle to refuel its hydrating gel pockets, and shortly after transforms back to a razor ready to serve its owner by shaving her leg on the side of a bathtub. This commercial entertaining, but was also based on the theory that all women should be viewed as independent, yet girly at the same. The second commercial showed very thin women standing in front of small bushes that were supposed to represent their own pubic hair. Two women were given rusty scissors, and one was given a special Schick trimmer. After completing their task, the Schick bush ended in the shape of a heart, and the remaining women glared enviously at the clean cut bush. Again, this is based in the fact that women must be clean shaven no matter where the area is. Finally, in commercial three, a girlfriend is pictured rushing around her apartment while trying to clean and shave at the same time to prepare for the introduction of her boyfriend s mother. Once more, the razor company shows how women are expected to be fully shaved for important events. Of the tree, all the commercials were pictured in bright colors with girls conforming to the expectation that all their natural body hair must be kept under wraps, if no completely removed. The men s commercials were an entirely different scenario. The first men s commercial pictured a boy in a laundromat who started to flirt with the only girl there, who started a laundry fight with him. The shirt turned to water when it hit the boy to symbolize the hydration that the razor brought ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
