2. Objectives:
1. Advocate a supportive atmosphere for students to
express their thoughts on fractions, encouraging a
positive attitude towards mathematics.
2. Maintain the usage of manipulatives, interactive
games, and practical applications of fractions.

3. Fraction represent the parts of whole or
collection of objects. A Fraction has two
parts. The number on the line is called the
numerator. It tells how many equal parts of
the whole or collection are taken. The
number below the line is called
denominator. It shows the total number of
equal parts the whole is divided into or the
total number of the same objects in a
collection.

5. - are the fractions that have different Numerators and
denominators but are equal to the same value.
For Example:
. 2/4 and 3/6
they are both equal to 1/2.
1. Equivalent Fractions

6. For each fractions, we can find it's equivalent fractions
by multiplying both numerator and denominator with the same
number.
For Example ;
We have to find the third equivalent fraction of 2/3; then we
have to multiply 2/3 by 3/3. Hence, 2/3 x 3/3= 6/9 is the
fraction equivalent to 2/3.
Let's try shading it in a board and define if the shaded 2/3 and
6/9 is equivalent fractions.

7. Similar fractions are fractions with the
same denominators and dissimilar
fractions are fractions with different
denominators. They are also known as like
and unlike fractions.

8. What are Similar Fractions?
Definition of similar fractions: Two or more
fractions are called similar (or like)
fractions if they have the same
denominator (the bottom number of a
fraction).
Example:
1/8, 3/8, 5/8, 7/8 and 2/8

9. How to Add and subtract the Similar Fraction?
When adding and subtracting fractions, the
first thing to check is if the denominators are
the same.
If the denominators are the same, then it's
pretty easy: just add or subtract the
numerators , and write the result over the
same denominator.

10. A dissimilar fraction, also
known as an unlike fraction, has
different numerators and
denominators. In other words,
dissimilar fractions don't
represent the same value, making
them distinct from each other.
Example:
1/6 , 1/9 , 3/24 , 5/8 , 9/10

11. How to add and subtract t he Dissimilar Fraction
In order to add we need to find the least common
denominator (LCD) of the denominators. To add
fractions with unlike denominators of 3/6+ 5/12=?
first we need to find their common denominator
by LCD. We will stop finding the LCD if we found the
same number of the 1st and 2nd Denominator.

12: 12,24
we find the LCD 12.

12. Word problem solving involving Fractions
Example:
Rachel rode her bike for one-fifths of a mile on
Monday and Two-fifths of a mile on Tuesday. How
many mile did she ride altogether?
Process: To solve this problem, we will add two
fractions with like denominators.
Answer:Rachel rode her bike for three-fifths of a mile
altogether.
