Politics And The Effect In George Orwell s Writing
Politics and the effect in writing
Orwell s statement that language becomes ugly and inaccurate because our thoughts are foolish, but
the slovenliness of our language makes it easier for us to have foolish, but the slovenliness of our
language makes it easier for us to have foolish thoughts in fact is true in our language in more recent
times because of various uses such as propaganda and other techniques such as glittering generalities,
transfer, card stacking, the band wagon. Although these effect writing and one s opinions, other
powerful technique authors may use in writing include effective word choice and text along with
photographs in political cartoons. Through today s language, once politics are involved, one tends to
become ugly and even foolish at times.
How does one detect propaganda? Although this question is complex, and difficult to end at one
conclusion, there are ways that a reader can indeed detect propaganda. Many of today s authors often
try and influence what the reader is reading and in many cases in a political way. We are fooled by
propaganda chiefly because we don t recognize it when we see it ( How to Detect 756). In addition,
this technique can be used to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be defined as a device in which the propagandist employs all the arts of deception to win our
support for himself, his group, nation, race, policy, practice, belief, or ideal ( How to Detect 758). This
is an example of how when in context of politics are thoughts can be seen as ugly and foolish. Instead
of speaking the truth, the speaker may decide to discuss what the people want to hear in order to gain
support because one major part of politics is having support. Because of this politicians can be seen as
sneaky and contaminated because they will do everything they can to win. Hence the reason many
individuals have a lack of trust for

The Impact Of Victim Impact Statements On Sentencing From...
Assessment 4: Essay
1. Evaluate the use of Victim Impact Statements in sentencing from the perspective of victims and
offenders.
The Impact of victims of crime has long been considered to be overlooked when it comes to the
criminal justice system. It is common for victims of crime to feel powerless and without a voice in the
criminal justice system. However, since 1980 Australian victims have had the chance to be heard
through a document called a Victim Impact Statement, giving the victim a chance to tell the courts
about the effect that the crime has burdened on them individually, physically and emotionally as well
as their families and friends as a society.
According to the Australian Institute of Criminology (2016) A Victim Impact Statement (VIS) is a
statement about the impact that a crime has had on the victim, once an offender has been convicted
and is to be sentenced. A VIS can provide you with an opportunity to participate in the criminal justice
process by informing the court about the effects of the crime on you.
The criminal justice system aims to support victims and this has been a process that is forever
changing. With the introduction of the VIS it has proven to have a twofold effect. If the offender is
found guilty their sentences were usually made to be more severe. However, many offenders have
been found innocent as the VIS had no effect as the victim was perceived and seen as vindictive
(Bandes and Salerno, 2014).
The perception that the criminal

Examples Of Fidelity In Clueless
The idea of fidelity can limit our understanding of adaptation in many ways. This idea is shown
throughout Clueless, a 1990 s adaptation of the novel Emma. Firstly, the theory of fidelity is that, in
order to be successful, adaptations should religiously follow their source text and keep every aspect of
the text identical. The notion in itself is incredibly flawed, as there are many different ways to adapt a
source text and still retain its significance. Also, it supports the claim that an adaptation is inherently a
loss, which is harmful and problematic. It also raises the idea that fidelity is not even attainable when
creating an adaptation as every form of media is an adaptation in some form and it becomes harder
and harder to think in

Pathos in MLK Jr. s Letter from Birmingham Jail
Pathos in MLK, Jr. s Letter from Birmingham Jail In his Letter, Martin Luther King Jr. s ability to
effectively use pathos, or to appeal to the emotions of his audiences, is evident in a variety of places.
More particularly in paragraph fourteen, King demonstrates his ability to inspire his fellow civil rights
activists, invoke empathy in the hearts of white moderates, and create compassion in the minds of the
eight clergyman to which the Letter is directed. In response to the clergyman s claim that his use of
direct action was untimely, King states, We have waited for more than 340 years for our constitutional
and God given rights. As you can see, this statement is in direct relation to the clergyman s ... Show

Why are we still moving so slowly toward independence? King is pushing the people of the black
community to act, to be involved in what will be their history with his words of inspiration and at the
same time making it clear to them that the time to act is now. Like instruments in an orchestra being
brought in one by one to a melody that fills the ears of its listeners and drives out any other thoughts,
King then targets the white moderate population, the white voters. He tries to place this audience into
the shoes of the black people by giving vivid descriptions of the trials they have been going through
and invoke empathy in their hearts. He says: When you have seen vicious mobs lynch your mothers
and fathers at will and drown your brothers and sisters at whim . . . This statement brings up an issue
every culture has had to deal with, death. Death in the American culture is one that is associated with
loss and grief. King deftly imposes this loss on the shoulders of his white audience making it clear to
them the pain the black people have been dealt. King then sums up this passage by turning his voice
back to the clergymen he s addressing and says, Then you will understand why we find it difficult to

Holcomb, Kansas In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
Out there is the phrase used to describe Holcomb, Kansas in the story In Cold Blood by Truman
Capote. Capote paints a picture of a small, run down, and insignificant western town using imagery,
careful attention to detail, and diction. Upon reading, readers are immediately transported to the
prairie, where things will soon become far more eventful. Using imagery, Capote make the slow town
of Holcomb more than a name. He sketches a mental picture starting from a distance and slowly
working its way in. The town is masterfully illustrated as a desolate wasteland. From the stark old
stucco structures to the flaking gold paint, Capote makes it very evident that Holcomb, Kansas is no in
the running for America s Most Beautiful Town award.

Innocence And The Death Penalty
The United States is one of approximately 58 countries around the world that retain the death penalty.
Of these 58 countries the United States was fifth of the six countries that accounted for nearly ninety
five percent of all executions conducted in 2015 ( Death Sentences and Executions 2014 ). This
position has drawn widespread criticism from our allies and the international community majority of
whom have all legally abolished the death penalty or have abolished it in practice. Since the early
1970s the US has had over 150 death row inmates exonerated prior to being executed ( Innocence and
the Death Penalty: Assessing The Danger of Mistaken Executions ). These facts alone show that the
US cannot stand among the same countries we denounce ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their take on the death penalty is usually more pragmatic in the sense that it is focused more on the
economic costs of the death penalty and the several incidents of innocent people being executed. They
feel that the government should only apply the death penalty in more extreme cases like serial killing,
mass murder, and murder with intent. This viewpoint would eventually phase out most of the need for
the death penalty putting us more in line with our western allies and less grouped with those who
strongly hold onto the death penalty. This view may lessen the overall total of executions but may lead
to an increase in costs due to the possibility of added protections and safeguards to prevent innocent
people from being executed. These views are most commonly held by the center left and the

My Grandpam My Grandma
Saturday mornings was our time or more like my time to debrief. The trees hovered over us, along
with the identical apartment buildings across the street. Children played games on the sidewalk
without a care in the world. Music played out loud from a neighbor s window, and an ambulance
wailed in the distance. Men strolled around, and cigarette aroma filled the air. There, outside of her
apartment complex, on the concrete steps we talked. Talking to my grandma was my safe place where
I could speak freely. She would make things make it easier with her advice or sometimes just listen.
Although she couldn t relate to many of my issues, she never failed at giving the best advice.
When my grandma was diagnosed with cancer we knew our time left with her was limited. This was
the first time I had to deal with cancer first hand. You always hear about it on the television, in the
news, and from people but never imagine it would someone you are close to. Once we found out the
news she was already at stage 4 of esophogeal cancer. She had been battling with it for months but
kept it a secret so we wouldn t worry about her. Grandma was the type of women that liked to do
things on her own even if it took double the amount of time. Family is everything she would
constantly remind us. Grandma did whatever it took to keep us all close and happy. She was a
stubborn, independently lady who refused to ask for help which explains why she didn t tell us sooner.

Narrative Essay On Battle Ground
Breaking 7:00 On the Mile
I sat in the front seat of our van with a nervous feeling. I was going to run the 1600 at the second
Battle Ground middle school track meet. Exactly a week before I had run the mile 2 times in one day.
The first time was on the Amboy track with the big hill. I got a 7:53, breaking my record by 11
seconds for the Amboy track. The second time was at the first Battle Ground middle school track
meet. I got a 7:15, breaking my record of 7:33. I was all sore from running the mile earlier in the day.
So my goal this time was to break seven minutes

I looked at my watch. It was 4:45. Do you have a schedule for each event? asked my mom.
Yes, I replied, and pulled out the sheet. I was starting the race at 5:15.

where they did the high jump.
Come on Kelvin, my cousin shouted. He was from Tukes and was running in the meet to. I ran past

curly brown kid was about 15 meters behind me. I slowed down a little as I rounded the second curve.
Let s go Kelvin! my mom shouted from the bleachers. I was getting tired. I breathed a little harder as I
ran.
Only 1 lap, I thought as I crossed the line. I started moving faster. I could feel the little rubber bits on
the track as I ran along. I ran around the last curve of the race.
Come on Kelvin! shouted my mom from where she was sitting. But I couldn t sprint, all I could do
was run. I crossed the line for the last time. Another person from the high school track handed me a
little paper with a 9. I had got 9th place. I was so tired that I dropped the piece of paper, I leaned over
and got it. I handed the paper to a person with a clipboard and made my way up to my mom.
She was smiling. What did I get? I asked.

Essay on The Truth Behind Music and Television
How many hours, on average, do young adults spend listening to music and watching television? For
music, young adults spend about two and a half hours listening throughout the day. Music is merely
organized sound that is meaningful and designed to entertain the audience listening. Music and
television are more than just relaxing activities to spend extra time but can affect the psychological
and developmental process of young adults. It may help young adults get their feelings across easily,
but it does more harm than good. Parents and even experts know and have proven that listening to
certain types of music and watching too much television are corrupting the minds of young adults. For

The type of music they listen to is usually the mood they are in at the time (Mariam). Listening to their
favorite kind of music is a way for them to express themselves. People try to find something in every
song to try to connect to it. If it is through the lyrics, the story behind it, or even the way that the song
makes them feel. The reason young adults listen to music is to connect with it and to articulate their
feelings in ways that they would not be able to do through their actions. The lyrics rapped by the
artists can be things going on in their own personal lives (Mariam). Even the artist is using music to
express the way that they feeling in the moment when they wrote the song. The music that one listens

the young adults listening to it make them make idiotic choices. Everyone listens to music, and it
influences one s actions in a drastic way. Rap music highly exposes drugs, sex, and violence to the
people who listen to it. This raw material is not the best for young adults. When a person likes a
certain artist, he or she will make choices as if they were the artist so that they can be similar to them.
The kind of music that is vulgar and unsuitable for young adults is causing them to use drugs, have
sex, and break the law. With the explicit and inappropriate songs influence the

At the beginning of the novel we are introduced to a young boy nicknamed Wart, and based off of the
time spent describing him and his actions, he will be the main character. Soon after the scene has been

More things happen and, A long time after that, the Wart was on the verge of the true forest, and Cully

Rights And Civil Rights
Civil rights are the rights granted from our government to the citizens to make sure that government
treats citizens equally, applies all laws fairly and does not discriminate against any group based on
race, religion, gender and disability. Civil liberties are individual freedoms that restrict the power of
the government in our lives, they are guaranteed in the Constitution and are described in detail in the
Bill of Rights. A great example of a civil liberty is free speech and the right of expression. While free
speech helps citizens to keep the government in check by being able to debate and engage in
conflicting narratives, it provides a voice to express new ideas and avoids censorship which would
otherwise skew information for the benefit of majority. While free speech and symbolic free speech is
protected, even in the case of flag burning, the courts have ruled that if free speech causes an
immediate lawless action of violence, it become an infringement of other people s rights. Sometimes it
is difficult to balance conflicting rights between individual or between individual and the entire
country. Who is to prevail? Who has more rights? In the case of individuals, an example of conflicting
rights is a candidate for election who has the right of privacy but, at the same time, people need to
know about his private affairs to have enough information to make a good determination on casting
their vote. A conflict of rights with society may be the Patriot Act which purpose is

Materiality In English Literature
Medieval Things: Materiality, Objects, and Literary Practice
In this seminar we will study critical works of medieval English literature along current theoretical
writing that shares an interest in things and objects. Since the 1980s, the humanities and social
sciences have developed new approaches of thinking about materiality. Early work in material culture
targeted at the social productivity of objects created by humans. However, essential approaches often
grouped beneath the time period new materialist have questioned this human focused angle,
suggesting rather that the human beings and things are essentially distinctive in a particular modern
concept. Philosopher and historian Bruno Latour, argued that the line between humans and natural
phenomena the line between object and subject was more permeable prior to the seventeenth century.
Our seminar will dive into this claim, analyzing English medieval literature and philosophy. The
readings will include texts written by Bill Brown, Jane Bennet, Gilles Deleuze, Sara Ahmed and
Manuel De Landa; and medieval literature by William Langland (Piers Plowman), Geoffrey Chaucer
(dream visions and some of the Canterbury Tales), Marie de France (short romances called Lays),
Julian of Norwich (A Revelation of Love), Thomas Malory (Morte Darthur).

Outline of Jamestown and Massachusetts
Jamestown presented more prospects to colonists than Massachusetts Bay Colony by allowing more
than one religion, workers rights, and freedom of speech. Jamestown settlers had a bond from England
guarantees the rights of settlers, as they would have had it in England. The Puritans formed the
Massachusetts Bay Colony and they established a charter also. Both colonies had their have and have
not in them. Massachusetts Bay Colony encourage the church greatly and Jamestown boost working
over religion. The starting of a democracy, equality was from Jamestown.
During 1608s and 1763s, North American Jamestown and Massachusetts Bay colonists developed
knowledge in, and the anticipation of, self government in the political, economic, social and religious
aspects of their lives.
The early colonization of Jamestown and Massachusetts Bay was both recognized by the similar
groups of people which bring the community spirit, their colonizing, and their government in
contradictory beginnings as a colony, religion, and means of economic stability shaped two different
politics and economic systems. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Unethical Behavior of Biegler and McCarthy in Anatomy...
After reviewing the two scenes from an Anatomy of a Murder and the Maryland Rules of Professional
Conduct, it s clear that Biegler and McCarthy behaved unethically; because he disclosed client
information without consent and he indirectly imposed what defense Lieutenant Manion should plea.
In the first scene, Biegler and McCarthy are discussing Biegler s first visit with Mr. Manion and
whether or not he was going to take the case; McCarthy also proposes Biegler guide Mr.Manion into a
defense. In the second scene, Biegler meets with Mr.Manion for the second time and he indirectly
guides him into a plea of insanity. In each of these scenes, several Maryland Rules of Professional
Conduct were violated such as: Maryland Rule 16 812 (1.6) (a), Maryland Rule 16 812 (1.6) (5) (b),
Maryland Rule 16 812 (8.4) (a), and Maryland Rule 16 812 (8.4) (c).
Based on Biegler s background as a lawyer, he should have known the rules about disclosing and
discussing information about a client s case. In the first scene between Biegler and McCarthy,
information about the representation of Lieutenant Manion was discussed and McCarthy suggested
that Biegler give Mr. Manion options for a defense. Biegler told McCarthy that he did not coach Mr.
Manion into a fake story and he gave his opinion of Mr.Manions character as being insolent and
hostile; hence the reason why he felt he was not fit to take the case. This discussion between Biegler
and McCarthy violated the Maryland Rules of Professional

Disadvantages Of Telecommuting
In order to meet the financial needs and wants one has in society, he or she may choose to work. In
general, most work has traditionally been performed through a physical presence of an employee in a
workplace; where individuals are paid for their services. While much of this tradition is still present,
the development of communication technology and the internet has allowed for telecommuting to be
possible. Telecommuting, e commuting or remote working, is defined by many as work performed by
employees outside of a workplace such as a residence. While telecommuting, individuals are paid for
providing the same services done at a workplace. This transition has illustrated many benefits and
setbacks to individuals and society. Some influences are psychological, which change the lifestyles of
individuals and damage certain social behaviors. There are also many economic benefits presented to
businesses with telecommuting that lower expenses and increase employment with certain jobs. The
ways families operate and the careers individuals choose, are also impacted by the social effects of
telecommuting. For this reason, communication technology has allowed for more individuals to work
at home; resulting in various benefits and disadvantages. Telecommuting has been adopted globally,
with many different types of jobs and industries. A typical telecommuter in the United States is about
45 years old, college educated and earns an annual salary of $58,000. As of 2017, according to

A Summary Of Medical Cost In Healthcare
This is a great thread and I appreciate you writing it. Healthcare is a right and equal treatment should
be available but at what cost? I have read some interesting articles on rationing health care spending or
perhaps controlling cost is easier to accept. Either way, medical cost continue to increase and spending
needs to be controlled which means denying something to someone but to whom and what? Is this
what we want the government to decide or is this something as nurses we can make an impact and
influence healthcare spending? Zilensky (2010) compares medical cost spending to technology. His
comparison is simply stated; if the cost of personal computers were escalating and overtaking the
American workforce s budget and the government s

Communication Problems In English Communication
How to correct these problems? In order to improve these situations, the teacher needs to take care of
different variables. Learner variables: When working with young adults, it is important to know what
is their aptitude towards learning the language. People at this age tend to be overly conscious of how
they are perceived. Although, it is important for them to improve, it is also challenging getting them to
try. Nobody wants to be labeled as a weak learner. And pronunciation is one of those language skills
that makes evident students English shortcomings. Therefore, when working on this kind of exercises,
make sure they are embedded in the curriculum from the beginning of the course; so that students do

Methodological variables: Improving the pronunciation of plosives, and the rhythm of the produced
language , is a process that requires an intentional effort from the learner. Pronunciation practice
involves some drilling because certain challenges are overcome through mastering the mechanics. Just
as dancers rehearse moves to the point that they become automatic, speakers need to practice using
their articulators in specific ways so that the mechanics become secondary and the attention can shift
back where it needs to go to the meaning. (Recio, 2011) Therefore exercises that involve repetition
will be necessary. However, it is not about repeating for the sake of it. There should be a process that
makes the student aware of what it expected from his pronunciation. The activities proposed should
have exposure procedure. In this stage not explicit attention is paid to specific features of
pronunciation (Ball, n.d.) Then activities where the learner listens to speech containing the target
feature used correctly should be part of this stage. (e.g. songs, fragments of movies, speeches, etc)
Exercise: As Ball said, in this stage there must be the identification of specific sound features and the
appropriate practice for their perception and production. In this stage, drills and repetition exercises
can take place. For instance for working with plosives, the following exercise

Heroin Addiction Paper
Heroin is a highly addictive illegal drug, derived from morphine and used by millions of users around
the world. It is a naturally occurring opiate found in opium poppies and is primarily grown in
Southeast Asia, Southwest Asia, Mexico, and Columbia (National, 2015), but has been illegal in the
United States since the early 1900 s. In its purest form, heroin is a fine white powder, but more often,
it is found to be rose gray, brown or black in color (Foundation, 2016). The coloring comes from
additives which have been used to dilute it (Foundation, 2016). These dilutes can include sugar,
caffeine or other substances (Foundation, 2016). In medicine, diamorphine, the main product found in
heroin, is used to treat sever pain, such as from a heart ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most common effects of heroin addiction include liver disease, skin disease, clouded mental
functions, collapsed/scarred veins, blood clots, stroke, respiratory depression, seizures (Delta, 2016).
When people inject heroin, they are at risk of serious, long term viral infections such as HIV, Hepatitis
C, and Hepatitis B, as well as bacterial infections of the skin, bloodstream, and heart (Centers for
Disease and Control, 2015). Street heroin is sometimes cut with strychnine or other poisons
(Foundation, 2016). The various additives do not fully dissolve, and when they are injected into the
body, can clog the blood vessels that lead to the lungs, kidneys or brain (Foundation, 2016). This can
lead to infection or destruction of vital organs. Other common effects of heroin addiction include
overdose and in many unfortunate cases, death. People often use heroin along with other drugs or
alcohol. This practice is especially dangerous because it increases the risk of overdose (CDC, 2015). A
heroin overdose can cause slow and shallow breathing, coma, and possible death (CDC, 2015). Like
many other chemical dependencies, heroin addiction is a chronic, relapsing brain disease with a wide
range of medical consequences and severe withdrawal symptoms (Pew, 2015). Addicts fear the
unfavorable effects of withdrawal and often times do not have the proper health support to overcome

Brown V Board Of Education Case Study
May 17, 1954 the United States Supreme Court decided to integrate public school in the Brown v.
Board of education case(Jacoway). One year later they reiterated its ruling to desegregate the schools
with all deliberate speed. With this law past, Little Rock decided to put a plan in action that would
eventually take place three years later(Jacoway).
The school Superintendent Virgil Blossom came up with a three phase plan, called the Blossom
Plane(Fitzgerald 23). For the first phase only 10th 12th grades then 7th 9th and last elementary 1st 6th.
Daisy Lee Gatson Bates was one of the civil right activities who thought this plan was too
slow(Fitzgerald 23). She was also the president of the NAACP, she decided to come up with a plan of
her own. It started with 33 black students but was narrowed down to nine students. Once organized
she presented her plan to the superintendent, but he refuse the enrollment of the kids(Fitzgerald 23). In
February 1956, Willey branton, a lawyer of the NAACP filed a suit to federal court(Fitzgerald 24). He
didn t win this case, because the judge ruled that the school board was acting with reasonable speed by
accepting the Blossom Plan. After Thurgood Marshall appeal the case the United States Court of
Appeals ruled that Little Rock had to begin integration that year(Fitzgerald 25).

Let s Take Football Players
Let s take football players, for instance. During the season many are told to bulk up or gain weight.
But what happens after the season is over? By bulking up during the season the players are eating
many more calories than necessary and are often eating the wrong foods. So after the season is over
the athletes have established bad habits and are carrying excess weight around. Now, on the opposite
side of the spectrum, many athletes are not eating enough. Their caloric intake is too low for the
amount of physical activity being partaken in. Sports that are known for having problems with this are
ballet, distance running, wrestling, cheerleading, and swimming. According to NPR, skinny ballerinas

When athletes are not properly fueled they may become fatigued, and they are more prone to illness
and injury. This will most certainly affect their performance. But there is something we can do about
this. Matzkin says that anytime a young female athlete comes to her office with shin splits or fractures,
she now asks about nutrition and menstruation. We may be able to identify the root cause of bone
mineral density problems, she says, and patients can be helped early to chart a new course in eating. It
s not just about eating enough, Matzkin says. It s also about eating the right things like fruits,
vegetables, protein and foods rich in calcium and vitamin D. It s critical to build bone when you can,
she says, because there s literally a countdown to how long women have to build strong bones. (Patti
Neighmond) Neighmond in this radio show says that it is all about what they eat. By not fueling their
bodies properly these athletes are setting themselves up for failure. Now looking at the opposite end of
the spectrum. Listening to all of the football players talk about bulking up for the season always
makes me wonder: How could that possibly be good for you? The truth of the matter is, it isn t good
for you at all. Actually the bigger is better mentality in football can endanger professional

The main product lines of the industry are carbonated soft drinks, fruit beverages, bottled water, so

categories: (1) flavoring syrup and concentrate manufacturing and (2) soft drink manufacturing. The
supply chain is largely dependent on the syrup producer, as this is the driver for most downstream
operations. The majority of the bottled soft drinks follow a similar product life cycle, moving from
syrup producer, to bottler, to distributor, to merchant, to final consumer. The principal raw materials
used in the beverage industry are cans and ends, glass bottles, PET bottles and caps, paper products,
sweeteners, juice, fruit, water and other ingredients. Major retailers associated with the beverage
industry include Wal Mart, Target and Kroger. In addition to retailers, beverage manufacturers also

Mary Meeker Biography Essay
Born in the early 1920 s, Mary Meeker s father saw great potential in his creative little girl. He vowed
to make sure she got to college, something which he had been unable to do. He fancied himself a
business man, so the family moved from place to place as he looked for the elusive perfect
opportunity. Every new school brought another Intelligence Test and eventually Mary skipped a grade.
Mary s sister who was learning disabled was often mistreated by the Nuns at one of the schools,
causing Mary to turn away from her religion. Her mother did not see her talent or creativity and was
often mean and abusive toward her children. As a result of these events, and recognizing that she and
her sister were at different ends of a spectrum, Mary vowed to advocate for the development of
diverse intellectual abilities. Educationally, Mary more than fulfilled her father s hopes as she gained a
Bachelor of Science, a Master of Science, a Doctorate in Educational Psychology and continued with
post graduate studies.
In a desperate need for teachers, California offered provisional teaching certificates to those with a
related degree, and Mary accepted. She was immediately assigned to students with severe
developmental delays. She didn t know how to teach them and there were no resources to draw upon.
Eventually she motivated the children s creativity by dancing and singing for much of the school year.
When Mary was re assigned, she got a Special Education Class and found that it had a

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Being Monolingual
disadvantages being monolingual? For example, Larry M. Lynch (Profan ELT Teacher Trainer,

Pro sides:
Teachers can empathize with language learners
Teachers have developed language learning skills and strategies of their own
Teachers can function locally in the L1 of the country where they live and work
Teachers can plan effective English acquisition strategies based on a knowledge of the learners L1

Even though many will agree with such a sentiment, some are not certain that this is true. The
language learning experience can be quite different from one learner to another. The experience can
also be radically different in going from one language family to another. That is way if teacher will
know more languages the more he or she will be experienced teacher, which will be effective in ELT.
Also, I learned reasearch of Marie Anne HANSEN PAULY, (University of Luxembourg, Postgraduate
Secondary Teacher Education*) She claims that, multilingualism in education means well defined
areas and functions for different languages, with clearly fixed regulations concerning the curriculum,
set books, interaction and exams; on the other hand, both teachers and learners, constantly and
spontaneously change languages in and outside school, according to situations and expectations. In
other words, to use a distinction made by the Council of Europe in the Common European Framework
of Reference for Languages (2001), educational policies are multilingual and well regulated; the
persons, however, who are involved in processes of learning and teaching. This means, for example,
most subject teachers have to teach their subjects in two languages, in German and French, neither of
which is a first language for the great majority of learners. It also means that learners acquire subject

Service Line Management
Service Line Management Task 1 In order for a company to continue to grow and expand, it must
have a need for additional services and customer satisfaction. To focus on patient care, one must
engage in property development. There are multiple ways this can be accomplished. To begin, this
writer will focus on the advantages and disadvantages of building, buying, or leasing property to
establish a new orthopedic service line. First, the concept of building a Physical Therapy center should
be considered. As the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) stated in the email, the cost of construction is
$120 per square foot for 5,000 square feet. This would total $600,000 to build on hospital property.
The advantage to this would be that the hospital ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although this option is the most costly, other factors have to be considered. In comparison to building
the site, this option is $100,000 more, but saves space on campus. It can be sold if needed, whereas a
newly constructed property on campus could not. The hospital would have to find a use for the space.
In comparison to leasing the building, if the hospital needed to expand or get out of the lease, that
normally does not happen. A contract is normally signed with a lease and the signee is responsible to
uphold the contract. The hospital could be stuck in that situation. By purchasing this building, the
hospital could also be able to start the PT program sooner than expected. The hospital would not be
waiting on construction which could possibly take a long period of time. During the time the hospital
would be waiting for construction to complete, they can be earning revenue by purchasing the already
constructed building and lot. They would have an immediate revenue which could generate the capital
reserve the CFO needs to keep intact. A new service line could greatly improve the revenue of the
hospital. Buying and starting the program sooner is the best option for the needs of the facility. A PT
program by the hospital will also make patients happy. Happy patients means return customers. Return
customers means more revenue. Revenue is what causes a business to

Market Failure in the Economy
Ans: An economic term that encompasses a situation where, a common resource in any given market,
the quantity of a product demanded by consumers does not equate to the quantity supplied by
suppliers. This is a direct result of a lack of certain economically ideal factors, which prevents
equilibrium (Market Failure 2013). Market failures have negative effects on the economy because an
optimal allocation of resources is not attained. In other words, the social costs of producing the good
or service (all of the opportunity costs of the input resources used in its creation) are not minimized,
and this results in a waste of some resources. Market work well when prices reflect all values.
Market Failure occurs when some costs and/or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This occurs because there are insufficient incentives to encourage profit seeking firms to enter a
market. This is commonly the case with pure public goods, such as street lighting, for which there is a
need, but private individuals would not be prepared to pay. If no one is prepared to pay, no revenue
can be derived, and no profit earned; hence no firm would enter the market.
A partial failure can occur in four ways:
When some, but not all, of the necessary conditions for market formation exist. This means that
markets form, but will fail to develop and supply sufficient quantities of a good or service. In the case
of merit goods, such as education, markets are inefficient because they under supply these goods, and
fail to meet society s demand.
When free markets over supply a good or service, either because producers fail to take into account
the full costs of production to society, or because consumers fail to take into account the full costs of
consumption to themselves, or society. Externalities and demerit goods are cases of free markets over
supplying.
Where there is a breakdown in self regulation, as in the case of the financial crisis.
Where a market becomes highly unstable and fails to return quickly to a stable equilibrium, as in the
case of some commodity markets.
Some economists argue that all market failures are, in some way, the result

because protein is not a major source of energy and it does not store in the body. As a result, for me,
maintaining the similar amount of protein intake is a better choice. If the protein are over consumed, it

increase my potassium consumption, animal foods and plant foods especial fresh vegetable and fruit
are needed (Hammond, 2016d). Zinc: My intake value of zinc was 5.59 mg, while the DRI value 8.00

damaged digestive system and so on (Hammond, 2016h). Therefore, it is important to maintain a
normal intake level of Zinc. Sodium: My 3 day average sodium intake value was 1831.68 mg, and it is

Theme Of Family In Water For Elephants
Believing in Creating Families
The novel Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen presents a dramatic and emotional plot about a boy,
Jacob, who joins the circus after losing everything. As readers join Jacob on his journey, the question
of what constitutes family is answered and the theme family can be created by those who love a
person is revealed. Like Jacob people may feel alone and lost but, there is a family out there
somewhere, even if they are a bit unconventional. Water for Elephants resonates with my beliefs about
family by expressing the theme, family does not always mean those one is born to but those one has
found to love and care for. My beliefs allowed me to better understand the theme, connect with
characters, as well as strengthen my beliefs by reading such an emotional novel with the theme
centered on creating a family.
I was instilled with the belief family does not mean people who share DNA, rather people who share
love and compassion for one another. This allowed me to better understand the theme about creating
families the author explains in the novel. By understanding the basics of the theme, I know families
created are just as or more strong and loving than those which are born. For instance, when Uncle Al
is unfair to Jacob, Camel reassures Jacob, You re a good kid, and I ain t about to stand by and watch
you mope off cuz that fat old grouch don t got time. (Gruen 53) Jacob found a family in many people

Analysis Of The Storm By Kate Chopin
Kate Chopin s The Storm : Trouble on the Horizon
The Storm by Kate Chopin melds the theme of romantic love with those of rebellion and conformity.
In the story, Chopin gives readers an account of a meteorological disturbance that sweeps through a
town leaving a family to seek shelter until the storms passing. The wife of the story Calixta is at the
family s home while her husband Bobint and child Bibi are seeking refuge at Friedheimer s store. Bibi
is deeply concerned for his mother s safety and begins to question and seek reassurance for Calixta
from his father. Bibi implores by saying, Mama ll be fraid, yes, he suggested with blinking eyes (1).
His father attempts to reassure him by saying She ll shut the house. Maybe she got Sylvie helpin her
this evenin (1). Bibi knew differently but eventually settles and is comforted by his father and his
unwavering confidence for Calixta s safety. While readers are preoccupied with the storm and the
uncertainty it holds, Kate Chopin begins to scribe an unending metaphor that carries the entire plot of
the story. Calixta goes out to gather Bobint s Sunday clothes before the rain starts and to her surprise
Alce Laballire comes riding up. Calixta is nervous with Alce in the house, she stands at the window
gazing out while making small talk with him. Lightning strikes and Calixta grabs her eyes and
stumbles backwards where Alce s arms are waiting. The tension between the two has been building,
when Calixta staggers back from

  • 2. Politics And The Effect In George Orwell s Writing Politics and the effect in writing Orwell s statement that language becomes ugly and inaccurate because our thoughts are foolish, but the slovenliness of our language makes it easier for us to have foolish, but the slovenliness of our language makes it easier for us to have foolish thoughts in fact is true in our language in more recent times because of various uses such as propaganda and other techniques such as glittering generalities, transfer, card stacking, the band wagon. Although these effect writing and one s opinions, other powerful technique authors may use in writing include effective word choice and text along with photographs in political cartoons. Through today s language, once politics are involved, one tends to become ugly and even foolish at times. How does one detect propaganda? Although this question is complex, and difficult to end at one conclusion, there are ways that a reader can indeed detect propaganda. Many of today s authors often try and influence what the reader is reading and in many cases in a political way. We are fooled by propaganda chiefly because we don t recognize it when we see it ( How to Detect 756). In addition, this technique can be used to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be defined as a device in which the propagandist employs all the arts of deception to win our support for himself, his group, nation, race, policy, practice, belief, or ideal ( How to Detect 758). This is an example of how when in context of politics are thoughts can be seen as ugly and foolish. Instead of speaking the truth, the speaker may decide to discuss what the people want to hear in order to gain support because one major part of politics is having support. Because of this politicians can be seen as sneaky and contaminated because they will do everything they can to win. Hence the reason many individuals have a lack of trust for ... • 3. The Impact Of Victim Impact Statements On Sentencing From... Assessment 4: Essay 1. Evaluate the use of Victim Impact Statements in sentencing from the perspective of victims and offenders. The Impact of victims of crime has long been considered to be overlooked when it comes to the criminal justice system. It is common for victims of crime to feel powerless and without a voice in the criminal justice system. However, since 1980 Australian victims have had the chance to be heard through a document called a Victim Impact Statement, giving the victim a chance to tell the courts about the effect that the crime has burdened on them individually, physically and emotionally as well as their families and friends as a society. According to the Australian Institute of Criminology (2016) A Victim Impact Statement (VIS) is a statement about the impact that a crime has had on the victim, once an offender has been convicted and is to be sentenced. A VIS can provide you with an opportunity to participate in the criminal justice process by informing the court about the effects of the crime on you. The criminal justice system aims to support victims and this has been a process that is forever changing. With the introduction of the VIS it has proven to have a twofold effect. If the offender is found guilty their sentences were usually made to be more severe. However, many offenders have been found innocent as the VIS had no effect as the victim was perceived and seen as vindictive (Bandes and Salerno, 2014). The perception that the criminal ... • 4. Examples Of Fidelity In Clueless The idea of fidelity can limit our understanding of adaptation in many ways. This idea is shown throughout Clueless, a 1990 s adaptation of the novel Emma. Firstly, the theory of fidelity is that, in order to be successful, adaptations should religiously follow their source text and keep every aspect of the text identical. The notion in itself is incredibly flawed, as there are many different ways to adapt a source text and still retain its significance. Also, it supports the claim that an adaptation is inherently a loss, which is harmful and problematic. It also raises the idea that fidelity is not even attainable when creating an adaptation as every form of media is an adaptation in some form and it becomes harder and harder to think in ... Pathos in MLK Jr. s Letter from Birmingham Jail Pathos in MLK, Jr. s Letter from Birmingham Jail In his Letter, Martin Luther King Jr. s ability to effectively use pathos, or to appeal to the emotions of his audiences, is evident in a variety of places. More particularly in paragraph fourteen, King demonstrates his ability to inspire his fellow civil rights activists, invoke empathy in the hearts of white moderates, and create compassion in the minds of the eight clergyman to which the Letter is directed. In response to the clergyman s claim that his use of direct action was untimely, King states, We have waited for more than 340 years for our constitutional and God given rights. King is pushing the people of the black community to act, to be involved in what will be their history with his words of inspiration and at the same time making it clear to them that the time to act is now. Like instruments in an orchestra being brought in one by one to a melody that fills the ears of its listeners and drives out any other thoughts, King then targets the white moderate population, the white voters. He tries to place this audience into the shoes of the black people by giving vivid descriptions of the trials they have been going through and invoke empathy in their hearts. He says: When you have seen vicious mobs lynch your mothers and fathers at will and drown your brothers and sisters at whim . . . This statement brings up an issue every culture has had to deal with, death. Death in the American culture is one that is associated with loss and grief. King deftly imposes this loss on the shoulders of his white audience making it clear to them the pain the black people have been dealt. King then sums up this passage by turning his voice back to the clergymen he s addressing and says, Then you will understand why we find it difficult to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Upon reading, readers are immediately transported to the prairie, where things will soon become far more eventful. Using imagery, Capote make the slow town of Holcomb more than a name. • 7. Innocence And The Death Penalty The United States is one of approximately 58 countries around the world that retain the death penalty. Of these 58 countries the United States was fifth of the six countries that accounted for nearly ninety five percent of all executions conducted in 2015 ( Death Sentences and Executions 2014 ). This position has drawn widespread criticism from our allies and the international community majority of whom have all legally abolished the death penalty or have abolished it in practice. Since the early 1970s the US has had over 150 death row inmates exonerated prior to being executed ( Innocence and the Death Penalty: Assessing The Danger of Mistaken Executions ). They feel that the government should only apply the death penalty in more extreme cases like serial killing, mass murder, and murder with intent. This viewpoint would eventually phase out most of the need for the death penalty putting us more in line with our western allies and less grouped with those who strongly hold onto the death penalty. • 10. My Grandpam My Grandma Saturday mornings was our time or more like my time to debrief. The trees hovered over us, along with the identical apartment buildings across the street. Children played games on the sidewalk without a care in the world. Music played out loud from a neighbor s window, and an ambulance wailed in the distance. Men strolled around, and cigarette aroma filled the air. There, outside of her apartment complex, on the concrete steps we talked. Talking to my grandma was my safe place where I could speak freely. She would make things make it easier with her advice or sometimes just listen. Although she couldn t relate to many of my issues, she never failed at giving the best advice. When my grandma was diagnosed with cancer we knew our time left with her was limited. This was the first time I had to deal with cancer first hand. You always hear about it on the television, in the news, and from people but never imagine it would someone you are close to. Once we found out the news she was already at stage 4 of esophogeal cancer. She had been battling with it for months but kept it a secret so we wouldn t worry about her. Grandma was the type of women that liked to do things on her own even if it took double the amount of time. Family is everything she would constantly remind us. Grandma did whatever it took to keep us all close and happy. She was a stubborn, independently lady who refused to ask for help which explains why she didn t tell us sooner. Rights And Civil Rights Civil rights are the rights granted from our government to the citizens to make sure that government treats citizens equally, applies all laws fairly and does not discriminate against any group based on race, religion, gender and disability. Civil liberties are individual freedoms that restrict the power of the government in our lives, they are guaranteed in the Constitution and are described in detail in the Bill of Rights. It started with 33 black students but was narrowed down to nine students. Once organized she presented her plan to the superintendent, but he refuse the enrollment of the kids(Fitzgerald 23). In February 1956, Willey branton, a lawyer of the NAACP filed a suit to federal court(Fitzgerald 24). He didn t win this case, because the judge ruled that the school board was acting with reasonable speed by accepting the Blossom Plan. After Thurgood Marshall appeal the case the United States Court of Appeals ruled that Little Rock had to begin integration that year(Fitzgerald 25). On September 4,1957 The Little Rock Nine arrived for their first day of school. Only eight arrived together, Ernest Green, Terrence Roberts, Minnijean Brown, Thelma ... • 32. Let s Take Football Players Let s take football players, for instance. During the season many are told to bulk up or gain weight. But what happens after the season is over? By bulking up during the season the players are eating many more calories than necessary and are often eating the wrong foods. So after the season is over the athletes have established bad habits and are carrying excess weight around. Now, on the opposite side of the spectrum, many athletes are not eating enough. Their caloric intake is too low for the amount of physical activity being partaken in. Sports that are known for having problems with this are ballet, distance running, wrestling, cheerleading, and swimming. According to NPR, skinny ballerinas are not the only athletes, we now have to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When athletes are not properly fueled they may become fatigued, and they are more prone to illness and injury. This will most certainly affect their performance. But there is something we can do about this. Matzkin says that anytime a young female athlete comes to her office with shin splits or fractures, she now asks about nutrition and menstruation. We may be able to identify the root cause of bone mineral density problems, she says, and patients can be helped early to chart a new course in eating. It s not just about eating enough, Matzkin says. It s also about eating the right things like fruits, vegetables, protein and foods rich in calcium and vitamin D. It s critical to build bone when you can, she says, because there s literally a countdown to how long women have to build strong bones. (Patti Neighmond) Neighmond in this radio show says that it is all about what they eat. By not fueling their bodies properly these athletes are setting themselves up for failure. Now looking at the opposite end of the spectrum. Listening to all of the football players talk about bulking up for the season always makes me wonder: How could that possibly be good for you? The truth of the matter is, it isn t good for you at all. Actually the bigger is better mentality in football can endanger professional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Mary Meeker Biography Essay Born in the early 1920 s, Mary Meeker s father saw great potential in his creative little girl. He vowed to make sure she got to college, something which he had been unable to do. He fancied himself a business man, so the family moved from place to place as he looked for the elusive perfect opportunity. Every new school brought another Intelligence Test and eventually Mary skipped a grade. Mary s sister who was learning disabled was often mistreated by the Nuns at one of the schools, causing Mary to turn away from her religion. Her mother did not see her talent or creativity and was often mean and abusive toward her children. As a result of these events, and recognizing that she and her sister were at different ends of a spectrum, Mary vowed to advocate for the development of diverse intellectual abilities. Educationally, Mary more than fulfilled her father s hopes as she gained a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Science, a Doctorate in Educational Psychology and continued with post graduate studies. In a desperate need for teachers, California offered provisional teaching certificates to those with a related degree, and Mary accepted. She was immediately assigned to students with severe developmental delays. She didn t know how to teach them and there were no resources to draw upon. Eventually she motivated the children s creativity by dancing and singing for much of the school year. When Mary was re assigned, she got a Special Education Class and found that it had a ... Lynch (Profan ELT Teacher Trainer, English language learning expert author and university professor in Cali, Colombia.) in his work emphasized reasons for and against having monolingual teachers. These are some key arguments: Pro sides: Teachers can empathize with language learners Teachers have developed language learning skills and strategies of their own Teachers can function locally in the L1 of the country where they live and work Teachers can plan effective English acquisition strategies based on a knowledge of the learners L1 Limited use of the learners L1 can be an effective language teaching strategy Con sides: Teachers may not necessarily work abroad but in their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though many will agree with such a sentiment, some are not certain that this is true. The language learning experience can be quite different from one learner to another. The experience can also be radically different in going from one language family to another. That is way if teacher will know more languages the more he or she will be experienced teacher, which will be effective in ELT. Also, I learned reasearch of Marie Anne HANSEN PAULY, (University of Luxembourg, Postgraduate Secondary Teacher Education*) She claims that, multilingualism in education means well defined areas and functions for different languages, with clearly fixed regulations concerning the curriculum, set books, interaction and exams; on the other hand, both teachers and learners, constantly and spontaneously change languages in and outside school, according to situations and expectations. In other words, to use a distinction made by the Council of Europe in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (2001), educational policies are multilingual and well regulated; the persons, however, who are involved in processes of learning and teaching. This means, for example, most subject teachers have to teach their subjects in two languages, in German and French, neither of which is a first language for the great majority of learners. • 36. Service Line Management Service Line Management Task 1 In order for a company to continue to grow and expand, it must have a need for additional services and customer satisfaction. To focus on patient care, one must engage in property development. There are multiple ways this can be accomplished. To begin, this writer will focus on the advantages and disadvantages of building, buying, or leasing property to establish a new orthopedic service line. First, the concept of building a Physical Therapy center should be considered. As the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) stated in the email, the cost of construction is $120 per square foot for 5,000 square feet. This would total $600,000 to build on hospital property. The advantage to this would be that the hospital ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although this option is the most costly, other factors have to be considered. In comparison to building the site, this option is $100,000 more, but saves space on campus. It can be sold if needed, whereas a newly constructed property on campus could not. The hospital would have to find a use for the space. In comparison to leasing the building, if the hospital needed to expand or get out of the lease, that normally does not happen. A contract is normally signed with a lease and the signee is responsible to uphold the contract. The hospital could be stuck in that situation. By purchasing this building, the hospital could also be able to start the PT program sooner than expected. The hospital would not be waiting on construction which could possibly take a long period of time. During the time the hospital would be waiting for construction to complete, they can be earning revenue by purchasing the already constructed building and lot. They would have an immediate revenue which could generate the capital reserve the CFO needs to keep intact. A new service line could greatly improve the revenue of the hospital. Buying and starting the program sooner is the best option for the needs of the facility. A PT program by the hospital will also make patients happy. Happy patients means return customers. Return customers means more revenue. Revenue is what causes a business to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Market Failure in the Economy Ans: An economic term that encompasses a situation where, a common resource in any given market, the quantity of a product demanded by consumers does not equate to the quantity supplied by suppliers. This is a direct result of a lack of certain economically ideal factors, which prevents equilibrium (Market Failure 2013). Market failures have negative effects on the economy because an optimal allocation of resources is not attained. In other words, the social costs of producing the good or service (all of the opportunity costs of the input resources used in its creation) are not minimized, and this results in a waste of some resources. Market work well when prices reflect all values. Market Failure occurs when some costs and/or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This occurs because there are insufficient incentives to encourage profit seeking firms to enter a market. This is commonly the case with pure public goods, such as street lighting, for which there is a need, but private individuals would not be prepared to pay. If no one is prepared to pay, no revenue can be derived, and no profit earned; hence no firm would enter the market. A partial failure can occur in four ways: When some, but not all, of the necessary conditions for market formation exist. This means that markets form, but will fail to develop and supply sufficient quantities of a good or service. In the case of merit goods, such as education, markets are inefficient because they under supply these goods, and fail to meet society s demand. When free markets over supply a good or service, either because producers fail to take into account the full costs of production to society, or because consumers fail to take into account the full costs of consumption to themselves, or society. Externalities and demerit goods are cases of free markets over supplying. Where there is a breakdown in self regulation, as in the case of the financial crisis. Where a market becomes highly unstable and fails to return quickly to a stable equilibrium, as in the case of some commodity markets. Some economists argue that all market failures are, in some way, the result ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Protein intake and DRI RDA From my longhand calculation sheet, my protein RDA goal based on 0.8 g protein/kg body weight was 43.9 g/day, which is slightly lower than my 3 day average intake which was 45.08 g. According to these values, I am not concerned about my protein intake value because protein is not a major source of energy and it does not store in the body. As a result, for me, maintaining the similar amount of protein intake is a better choice. If the protein are over consumed, it might leads to the deficiency of nutrient dense foods intake and increase potential risks of kidney disease and colon cancer (Hammond, 2016b). In order to increase my potassium consumption, animal foods and plant foods especial fresh vegetable and fruit are needed (Hammond, 2016d). • 39. Theme Of Family In Water For Elephants Believing in Creating Families The novel Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen presents a dramatic and emotional plot about a boy, Jacob, who joins the circus after losing everything. As readers join Jacob on his journey, the question of what constitutes family is answered and the theme family can be created by those who love a person is revealed. Like Jacob people may feel alone and lost but, there is a family out there somewhere, even if they are a bit unconventional. Water for Elephants resonates with my beliefs about family by expressing the theme, family does not always mean those one is born to but those one has found to love and care for. My beliefs allowed me to better understand the theme, connect with characters, as well as strengthen my beliefs by reading such an emotional novel with the theme centered on creating a family. I was instilled with the belief family does not mean people who share DNA, rather people who share love and compassion for one another. This allowed me to better understand the theme about creating families the author explains in the novel. By understanding the basics of the theme, I know families created are just as or more strong and loving than those which are born. For instance, when Uncle Al is unfair to Jacob, Camel reassures Jacob, You re a good kid, and I ain t about to stand by and watch you mope off cuz that fat old grouch don t got time.
