Comparison Of Rascal Flatts And Aka Pygmy Culture
It is evident that fathers across all cultures are different along with their way of parenting their
offspring s, but ages also change or stay the way we parent our offspring s and the kind of care we
offer them. The care that Rascal Flatts is providing his daughter is very similar to the one of Aka
Pygmy culture. He says I hope you never look back, but you never forget, All the ones who love you,
in the place you live which shows traits of the hunter and gather community by the long term kinship.
Ties of kinship are vitally important in all hunting and gathering groups and social interaction usually
organized around kinship roles which include nuclear and extended in this case Rascal Flatts daughter
is considered nuclear. It is clear that

The Impact Of Pierre Elliott Trudeau On Canadian Society
Pierre Elliott Trudeau was a remarkable man who has made a significant impact in the Canadian
society. Trudeau was voted to be the fifteenth Prime Minister of Canada from April 20, 1968 to June 4,
1979. Trudeau has put a lot of effort into making Canada a better place and he was truly passionate.
His actions spoke louder than words and he proved to a lot of Canadians how he was the best Prime
Minister of the Post war Era in a lot of people s eyes. Back then, a lot of people liked and supported
him and his actions, that s why he has been re elected and continued being Canada s Prime Minister
from March 3, 1980 to June 30, 1984. Trudeau s ambitious attitude and determination has brought him

He had many good qualities of a successful leader, which is why a lot of people liked him. He had
good communication skills and he was trustworthy, during one of Trudeau s Prime Minister races
against the Progressive Conservatives, he promised all the citizens that he would eliminate or lower
the sale tax if he won. He kept his words and after he won the election, the sale tax did become lower.
He did this because he wanted to share the wealth of Canada more evenly among all different social
classes. Other than that, he also has a visionary outlook, his action speaks louder than words, he has
the ability to motivate people around him, he is consistent and he has the ability to stand against
critics. Besides, Trudeau was a very educated person himself, he went to some of the best schools like
the London school of Economics, the Jesuit College Jean de Brebeuf, Harvard University and Mcgill
University and was very educated politically and economically. Before being a PM, Trudeau started
his political career as a lawyer, then an economic policy adviser, that s why he has so many

Do You Want To Achieve Your Goals
Chapter 2:
Do you want to Achieve Your Goals?
Creating your mindset to succeed
Everyone in this world has its own goal. Whether to win that football game on Saturday night, claim
the employee of the year award of your company or to be able to spend a nice and relaxing vacation at
the Maldives.
Creating your mindset to succeed is the very first step when achieving your goal. This is where it will
all start. This is the part where you can create your plans and how you can make it happen. This is
where you will think of strategies on how you can overcome the challenges that may keep you from
achieving your goals. This is going to be the blueprint of your goal.
You would always hear people saying It s only in the mind . Yes it is. Most of the time, successful
people in the world start with a goal; they visualize their plan and make it happen. Why? Because no
goal or dream just appear from thin air. Planning and setting always comes first. ... Show more content

You focus your mind power and emotions to it and it becomes very powerful depending on how much
you want it. It will depend on how hungry you are to succeed on this specific goal. More often than
not, the success of your goal depends on how you think. You have to be passionate on this goal. You
should ask yourself, what are you passionate about? What is your purpose in life? When you are able
to answer those two questions, you will realize that this goal that you have set up for yourself to
succeed is really for you. You ll realize that there will be no what ifs and you will be able to keep that

Marketing Strategy Of Chanel
INTRODUCTION
Gabriell (Coco) Chanel founded her company in 1913 in Paris, France. The main profile of the
company at the beginnings was fashion design by Chanel herself from 1910 to 1971. She was a real
innovator on the market. After her death Karl Lagerfeld became his successor, currently he is the
mastermind behind the world famous, top selling luxury brand. Chanel soon expanded the product
range and started to design luxury hats, clothes, fragrances, accessories and cosmetics. The ideology
behind the brand is elegancy, beauty and self respect of women; Chanel has a parallelism with
personal identity embedded into luxury. This is illustrated by the current slogan of N˚5 Fragrance A
woman. A Destiny. A Parfume. (Chanel, 2014). The Chanel Fragrance called N˚5 is an ultimate
success since the very beginning it was introduced in the market as a symbol of femininity in the early
1920 s. Almost a hundred years later Chanel s N˚5 fragrance of the same composition is still top seller
even though the number of concurrent companies or products has increased significantly. Some
research says that a bottle is sold every half a minute (Vogue, 2014).

Factors That Affect the Academic Performance of the...
By Kirk A. Johnson, Ph.D.
Few would argue that advanced teacher training does not make a difference in student achievement. In
fact, Professor William Sanders of the University of Tennessee argues persuasively that the single
most dominant factor affecting student academic gain is teacher effect. 1 However, little statistical
research is available for evaluating which type of training and teaching degree has the best effect on
student achievement. As the demand for higher academic achievement and accountability in public
education grows, it is important to determine whether teachers who hold advanced degrees in
education as a general field are more effective than those who have degrees in specific subjects like
English or math. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As put forward by Hijaz and Naqvi, there are many ways to weigh up different factors, which can
affect performance of students. It is most likely, that there is no universally accepted method to
measure the performance of students.
Literature Review Performance of a student depends upon many factors. Nevertheless, three factors,
family, teacher, and personal profile of students are most likely critical (Diaz, 2003). Significance of
factors may vary depending upon the context, culture, level of education etc. Family interaction and
Socio
Economic Status (SES) of family can play an important role in the performance of students. As said
by Schulz (2005), The socio economic status of families has been consistently found to be an
important variable in explaining variance in student s achievement (p. 3). Schulz explains that family
can contribute in many ways, for instance; it can provide financial, moral, and other necessary and
useful support to a student. They can provide a stimulating home environment to promote cognitive
development. All the same, the personal attention of a family and its members is a strong variable. As
identified by Hijaz and Naqvi (2006), merely access to better resources does not provide guarantee for
better performance of students and have established a negative correlation between the income of a
family and performance of a student. It may vary from situation to situation. Nevertheless, it is
difficult to refute and defy the role of family in

Cognitive Neuroscience
For the last three decades, there has been significate improvement, interest, and understating on how
the brain decodes and processes daily information. This increase from the field of neuroscience and
education, has helped us expand our understanding of the neural chemistry, physiology, and growth
processes that support behavior, cognition, language, emotion, sociality, and their development
(Hruby, Goswami, Frederiksen, Perfetti, 2011). The recent advances in cognitive neuroscience has
caught the attention of educators. Naturally, people interested in learning and education might want to
know how results from relevant cognitive neuroscience research could be applied in the classroom

At the bottom back of the brain is where the occipital lobes are located; they are covered by the visual
cortex. This area of the brain is involved in object recognition and is an area of interest in research on
decoding, because it has been suggested to house a word form area. This area is a part of the visual
cortex specialized for recognizing print (Hruby, Goswami, Frederiksen, Perfetti, 2011). As we move
upward, we encounter the parietal lobes. These lobes are responsible for receiving tactile information
such as temperature, pain, and pressure, and integrate this information with sights and sounds (Wolf
Nevills, 2008). The temporal lobes, are covered by the auditory cortex. This area is responsible for
taking in and interpreting auditory stimuli (Wolf Nevills, 2008). Within the temporal lobes lies the
area where speech and memory are produced. These two areas are Wernicke s area and the
Hippocampus. Wernicke s area is the semantic processing center and is a key component of conscious
comprehension of the spoken words (Wolf Nevills, 2008). The hippocampus is where short term
memory is converted to long term memory. According to Zull (2002), the hippocampus does not store
memory itself, instead it finds a way back to various parts of the cortex in a form that is susceptible to
recall, or reassembly, any time later. The last lobes are the frontal lobes. The cortex covering these
lobes is known as the association cortex (Wolf Nevills,

Horror
Carrie is a story about a girl who has never fit in at school. All the other kids were always mean to her.
They ether never thought of her feelings, or didn t care. One day, in the girls locker room, the teasing
got out of hand. This time, a teacher caught them. This time, revenge was in order. At least, that s what
Chris Hargensen thought. The punishment for their crime, no prom. Chris wasn t going down without
a fight, but she sure went down. When a vicious prank is pulled on Carrie at the dance, she snaps and
unleashes he telegenic power on all the kids, teachers, parents, and the rest of the town. The town will
burn with Carrie s revenge, but will she burn with it?
Carrie White Carrie is the main character (you can tell by the title), but I would also say she is
partially the antagonist. Her mother raised her to be very religious and told her almost everything she
did was a sin. When Carrie wasn t like the other kids, they made fun of her. When they would make
fun of her, she got mad. And when she got mad, bad things happened. Carrie learned she had
telekinesis. The older she got the more interested she became in her power, so she learned to control it.
But a horribly treated girl and a dangerous power don t mix.
Sue Snell Susan Snell is the perfect girl every parent wants as their daughter. Good grades, nice to
everyone at school, and very pretty and popular. But when the teasing broke out in the locker room
she joined in.

The Disease Known as Diabetes
8.3 percent of Americans have a disease called diabetes mellitus, also known as diabetes. It is
characterized by high blood sugar, brought on either because the pancreas is not producing enough of
a hormone called insulin, which helps remove glucose from the blood, or because the cells are
unresponsive to the insulin that is being produced. Three symptoms that result from this high blood
sugar are polyuria, or frequent urination, polydipsia, or increased thirst, and polyphagia, or increased
appetite. When the body cannot produce insulin, this is called type 1 diabetes. People with this type of
diabetes usually have to inject insulin or wear an insulin pump. In contrast, when cells simply cannot
use insulin correctly, the patient has type 2 diabetes. This is usually treated by increasing exercise or
making adjustments to the diet, which should lower blood sugar. Finally, a third type of diabetes called
gestational diabetes occurs only in pregnant women. These women have not been previously
diagnosed with diabetes, rather, they have developed high blood sugar during their pregnancy. If not
effectively treated by making changes to the diet, gestational diabetes can be a precursor to type 2
diabetes as well as childhood obesity and eventual diabetes in the infant. Of all cases of diabetes, only
about five to ten percent are type 1. Even so, more and more people worldwide are being diagnosed
every year, and the effects of the disorder are very serious if not severe on both the

they lack coverage (Key Facts) In 2015, 46% of uninsured adults said that they tried to get coverage

Character Analysis Of Vertigo
Recently, Alfred Hitchcock s Vertigo replaced Citizen Kane as Sight Sound s Greatest Film of All
Time. The movie includes all the essentials for a great film: strong, multi layered characters, stunning
performances from some of the greatest actors of the time, and a rich, exhilarating plot filled with
suspense and twists. The movie s brilliance is unmistakable, and throughout the years it has been the
inspiration for many other movies, such as the 1976 film Obsession. Vertigo follows acrophobic ex
detective John Ferguson who takes on a new job to follow his old friend Gavin s wife, Madeleine.
Madeleine is acting strange, and Gavin believes she may even be possessed. As John grows close to
Madeleine, the two fall desperately in love. Unfortunately, Madeleine s bizarre behavior gets the best
of her, and she throws herself out of a church tower and falls to her death. Shortly after, John meets a
woman named Judy who looks unmistakably like Madeleine. John s character takes a dark turn when
he spirals into obsession with Judy and her image. Later in the movie, it is revealed that Judy actually
is Madeleine, and she faked her own death. If I had a problem with Vertigo, it would be that this is
revealed too soon. Judy barely has any screen time before this revelation, making it rather
unsurprising as we are not quite attached to her character. But while I decided to put this minor detail
aside, someone else felt compelled to make an entire movie dragging this portion of

quick in expressing is enjoyment for Avatar, referring to it as a mighty ode to Gigantism and

A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings, By Garcia Marquez
Following the contemporary style of fiction, magical realism falls into a category of its own,
portraying both the roles of fiction and nonfiction. Magical realism takes the reader into a fantastical
world, shaped by the author, based on the author s surroundings, and life experiences. This essay will
provide more insight into this style of writing and how it came to be. Taking cited works from
multiple sources, this essay will allow one to see examples of excellent works in the style of magical
realism. From its origins, to the authors that made this style of writing popular, it will be informing to
anyone looking to learn more about magical realism. Magical realism is similar to fantasy and science
fiction, creating an imaginative and sometimes disturbing world. A perfect example of this is the short
story of A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings written by Garcia Marquez in 1955. This story tells
how Pelayo and his wife Elisenda find an old man with wings, who later in the story is found out to be

Monument Synthesis Essay
Monument is a significant symbol that carries memories and histories, each and every one of them
have a different meaning and their own story behind; no matter it s a honor moments of great
achievement or a tragic moments of deep sacrifices, the purpose is to create memorial to the past. A
monument not only tells tale but also takes hard work; to realized the value, the purpose, intention,
and meaning are the goals underneath the surface. Monuments are not only for memorial purpose but
for significant memories that have to be remember. In source F, an artist called H. Elroy Johnson made

Gender Inequality In Boys And Girls By Alice Munro
In Alice Munro s Boys and Girls inequality is a proven action throughout the story. Gender roles and
stereotypes is what occur when the role or behavior is taught to a person as appropriate to their gender.
Alice Munro shows us in the story that in a second someone can change based off of what someone
else thinks they should be and do.
For example in the short story it shows us that women should be in the kitchen and men should be
outside working in the fields and providing for his family. When reading a poem entitled Gender
Inequality by
Ella Linero, it tells us that men and women are put into a system where gender inequality is being
ruled in the world. That men and women had to act a certain way and that women should be feminine
while on the other hand men should only be masculine. The time in which the short story Boys and
Girls took place was a time when men and women were not equal. Mothers had traditional roles,
which often left them working in the house while men also had their roles outside of the house. The
male was the dominate figure while the woman had to be subservient. You didn t see women outside
unless they had to go outside and does something for example, hang the clothes on wires and so on.
Gender Inequality took a toll on women in the early 1950 s.
In the short story Boys and Girls the main character is a young girl who struggles within herself and
also has external struggles as her father tries to change who she is and force her into a gender role that
he thinks is important. Munro does not give the girl a name and by doing this the protagonist is seen as
someone who has no identity and no power. This little girl in the story helps her father in their fox
breading farm which she enjoyed so much. Sadly that all changed for her as she got older and her help
wasn t needed. The narrator had problems coming in to terms with the role she was to lead. She
wanted to work outside with her father doing the work that she only knew to do and this work was so
important to her. But sadly the narrators mother tried to her in to work inside the house which I would

Effective Leadership in Public Safety
Effective Leadership in Public Safety
Introduction
As chief executive my role is to create and promote a culture that is responsive to the needs and
concerns pertaining to public safety and service as required throughout the community. Effective
leadership in public safety covers a wide number of issues that require a complex level of
competences. This paper will demonstrate my understanding how the internal and external elements of
public safety and service need to be managed as they relate to six topics: ethics in public safety,
human and community service delivery, cultural diversity in public safety, group dynamics, human
resources in public safety, and America s homeland security.
Discussion
Ethics in Public Safety
I understand examples of unethical behavior can be found in academia, politics, sports, entertainment,
banking and the legal system to name a few. Public Safety workers are not immune to these unethical
behaviors. They face ethical dilemmas on a regular basis pertaining to practice, inadequate resources,
inadequate staffing levels, cost containment measures, consolidation of public safety organizations,
and ineffective leadership. How individuals respond to these ethical dilemmas depends on their
previous experiences with unethical behavior, their individual personality traits, and their ethical
values as well as their knowledge of ethical principles. Moral courage is needed to confront unethical
situations.
Moral courage is the commitment to stand up

The Moral Characters Of Christopher Columbus
Christopher Columbus accepted the only offer he received to start his journey across the ocean to
prove his round earth theory. Columbus, determined to find a new route to India, set sail in 1492.
However, instead of India, Columbus landed in a New World that he claimed for the country of Spain.
The crew aboard Columbus ship, and Columbus himself, set out to explore and learn more about their
newly claimed lands. After uncovering the island had inhabitants, Columbus and his crew interacted
with the natives of the land. During the time that Columbus spent on the island, he recorded, in a
journal, his thoughts on the land. Many people believe that he elaborated when describing the area, the
natives, and the resources it offers. This led to the questioning of Columbus moral character.
Inspecting three different sources Columbus s Journal, Walt Whitman s Prayer of Columbus, and
Joaqin Miller s Columbus Columbus s moral character gets scrutinized. On October 21, 1492,
Columbus made landfall in the New World and exploration of the new land commenced. Throughout
the journey, Columbus kept a journal full of his thoughts and impressions on this new land. After
examining the journal entries, many people can see how Columbus seemed motivated to exaggerate
when he described the New World . With a promise of wealth, Columbus strived to prove of the new
land s worthiness: It was a great affliction to me to be ignorant of their natures, for I am very certain

Gender Roles In Monty Python And The Holy Grail
Monty Python and the Holy Grail, directed by Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones, tells the story of King
Arthur and he and his knight s quest for the Holy Grail. The writing and directing of the movie shows
the problems of society. Monty Python and the Holy Grail uses satirical techniques to expose gender
roles and greed at the expense of others. The Black knight exposes how often now and in history
gender roles affect society. While it can be displayed in multiple places in the movie, it is most evident
here. The scene shows King Arthur encounter a knight keen on fighting. But when king arthur begins
chopping off the knights limbs, he is not hurt at all it seems. He responds simply Tis but a flesh wound

mortician, eager to be done with the matter, kills the man claiming to be alive and puts him in the cart.
This, and the dirty costumes everyone is wearing, is an exaggeration of the poverty of the lower

Ella J. Baker s Struggle For Freedom
The 1960s served as an influential and powerful era for the African American struggle for freedom.
The aura of the African American community dramatically shifted after the brutal murder of an
African American teenager, Emit Till and the severe violence towards African American protestors in
Birmingham, Alabama. Civil Rights organizations came together and discussed ways to more
affectively portray their disgust, outrage, and misery in response to the continuous tragedies and
horrors that occurred throughout the country. Men and women of the African American community,
along with many whites, joined together to put their anger into action in hopes of setting a path for
freedom and equality. Women played a significant role in the African American struggle for freedom.

affected by poverty, with young children being the most vulnerable. Some of the causes of poverty
include lack of education, family composition, immigration, and unemployment. The government can
help in many ways by promoting marriage and free and reduced school lunch programs. Poverty is a
social problem because it s widespread. People do not have the acquired skills needed to succeed in
today s society. Childhood poverty is even more challenging because children cannot help themselves
and the solutions must come from social change in order to have a significant impact. To improve

teenagers. Immigrants have higher poverty rates than native born Americans (Haskins, 2015, p. 4).
Writing this paper helps me understand the gift that my birth parents gave me.
In the past, Charles Brace took on the problem of child poverty in the 19th century New York City.
Brace was a Yale graduate who was shocked by centers of crime and misery (Olasky,1994, p. 1). He
helped kids by putting them in a group home, after first trying to unsuccessfully distribute directly to
the poor. He then tried to make sure they could be adopted in rural areas (Olasky,1994, p. 1). These

Roman Empire Future
What will the world be in a hundred years? That is a question that runs through everyone s head at
some point in their lives. Most people are always interested in what the future holds and some make
many different theories about it. All of us already know how in the future we will be technologically
advanced with computers and cars but we don t know how the world will work. Will the world come
to full stop and fail, adapt and progress or if it will go back to the roots of our ancestors to run
properly. Some ask Will the global hegemonic dominion of the USA fade away like the Roman
Empire? Or is the US just now fully developing into an American Empire? Will the world deteriorate
into a kind of international neo feudalism? Or are we on the brink of a Second Renaissance. The
theory that the USA s global hegemonic dominion will fade away like the Roman Empire is quiet
interesting. It is true that both the U.S and Romans are the strongest force of their time. Both of their
militaries were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When people predict the next one hundred it is not 100 percent that it will all come true but there is a
slight chance that will. When people predict if the U.S will fall like the Roman Empire, they should
know that will never happen. The U.S is the strongest force in the world both economically and
military. Also America s policy for zero corruption and freedom of religion keeps the people together
unlike the Romans. Another thing that America will become in the future is an empire, by becoming
the world s best economy and gaining more territories. As for having neo feudalism run through the
government is a 50 50 chance because it depends on how much power is given to the rich in the
future. The second renaissance on the other hand is bound to happen. We will end up making robots
which do our work and will deteriorate this beautiful country. So over all we the people have a lot to
look forward to the next hundred

  • 6. Marketing Strategy Of Chanel INTRODUCTION Gabriell (Coco) Chanel founded her company in 1913 in Paris, France. The main profile of the company at the beginnings was fashion design by Chanel herself from 1910 to 1971. She was a real innovator on the market. After her death Karl Lagerfeld became his successor, currently he is the mastermind behind the world famous, top selling luxury brand. Chanel soon expanded the product range and started to design luxury hats, clothes, fragrances, accessories and cosmetics. The ideology behind the brand is elegancy, beauty and self respect of women; Chanel has a parallelism with personal identity embedded into luxury. This is illustrated by the current slogan of N˚5 Fragrance A woman. A Destiny. A Parfume. (Chanel, 2014). The Chanel Fragrance called N˚5 is an ultimate success since the very beginning it was introduced in the market as a symbol of femininity in the early 1920 s. In fact, Professor William Sanders of the University of Tennessee argues persuasively that the single most dominant factor affecting student academic gain is teacher effect. 1 However, little statistical research is available for evaluating which type of training and teaching degree has the best effect on student achievement. As the demand for higher academic achievement and accountability in public education grows, it is important to determine whether teachers who hold advanced degrees in education as a general field are more effective than those who have degrees in specific subjects like English or math. ... It is most likely, that there is no universally accepted method to measure the performance of students. Literature Review Performance of a student depends upon many factors. Nevertheless, three factors, family, teacher, and personal profile of students are most likely critical (Diaz, 2003). Significance of factors may vary depending upon the context, culture, level of education etc. Family interaction and Socio Economic Status (SES) of family can play an important role in the performance of students. As said by Schulz (2005), The socio economic status of families has been consistently found to be an important variable in explaining variance in student s achievement (p. 3). Schulz explains that family can contribute in many ways, for instance; it can provide financial, moral, and other necessary and useful support to a student. They can provide a stimulating home environment to promote cognitive development. All the same, the personal attention of a family and its members is a strong variable. As identified by Hijaz and Naqvi (2006), merely access to better resources does not provide guarantee for better performance of students and have established a negative correlation between the income of a family and performance of a student. This area is a part of the visual cortex specialized for recognizing print (Hruby, Goswami, Frederiksen, Perfetti, 2011). As we move upward, we encounter the parietal lobes. These lobes are responsible for receiving tactile information such as temperature, pain, and pressure, and integrate this information with sights and sounds (Wolf Nevills, 2008). The temporal lobes, are covered by the auditory cortex. This area is responsible for taking in and interpreting auditory stimuli (Wolf Nevills, 2008). Within the temporal lobes lies the area where speech and memory are produced. These two areas are Wernicke s area and the Hippocampus. Wernicke s area is the semantic processing center and is a key component of conscious comprehension of the spoken words (Wolf Nevills, 2008). The hippocampus is where short term memory is converted to long term memory. According to Zull (2002), the hippocampus does not store memory itself, instead it finds a way back to various parts of the cortex in a form that is susceptible to recall, or reassembly, any time later. • 11. The Disease Known as Diabetes 8.3 percent of Americans have a disease called diabetes mellitus, also known as diabetes. It is characterized by high blood sugar, brought on either because the pancreas is not producing enough of a hormone called insulin, which helps remove glucose from the blood, or because the cells are unresponsive to the insulin that is being produced. Three symptoms that result from this high blood sugar are polyuria, or frequent urination, polydipsia, or increased thirst, and polyphagia, or increased appetite. When the body cannot produce insulin, this is called type 1 diabetes. People with this type of diabetes usually have to inject insulin or wear an insulin pump. In contrast, when cells simply cannot use insulin correctly, the patient has type 2 diabetes. This is usually treated by increasing exercise or making adjustments to the diet, which should lower blood sugar. Finally, a third type of diabetes called gestational diabetes occurs only in pregnant women. These women have not been previously diagnosed with diabetes, rather, they have developed high blood sugar during their pregnancy. If not effectively treated by making changes to the diet, gestational diabetes can be a precursor to type 2 diabetes as well as childhood obesity and eventual diabetes in the infant. Of all cases of diabetes, only about five to ten percent are type 1. Even so, more and more people worldwide are being diagnosed every year, and the effects of the disorder are very serious if not severe on both the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Character Analysis Of Vertigo Recently, Alfred Hitchcock s Vertigo replaced Citizen Kane as Sight Sound s Greatest Film of All Time. The movie includes all the essentials for a great film: strong, multi layered characters, stunning performances from some of the greatest actors of the time, and a rich, exhilarating plot filled with suspense and twists. The movie s brilliance is unmistakable, and throughout the years it has been the inspiration for many other movies, such as the 1976 film Obsession. Vertigo follows acrophobic ex detective John Ferguson who takes on a new job to follow his old friend Gavin s wife, Madeleine. Madeleine is acting strange, and Gavin believes she may even be possessed. As John grows close to Madeleine, the two fall desperately in love. Unfortunately, Madeleine s bizarre behavior gets the best of her, and she throws herself out of a church tower and falls to her death. Shortly after, John meets a woman named Judy who looks unmistakably like Madeleine. John s character takes a dark turn when he spirals into obsession with Judy and her image. Later in the movie, it is revealed that Judy actually is Madeleine, and she faked her own death. If I had a problem with Vertigo, it would be that this is revealed too soon. • 20. Gender Inequality In Boys And Girls By Alice Munro In Alice Munro s Boys and Girls inequality is a proven action throughout the story. Gender roles and stereotypes is what occur when the role or behavior is taught to a person as appropriate to their gender. Alice Munro shows us in the story that in a second someone can change based off of what someone else thinks they should be and do. For example in the short story it shows us that women should be in the kitchen and men should be outside working in the fields and providing for his family. When reading a poem entitled Gender Inequality by Ella Linero, it tells us that men and women are put into a system where gender inequality is being ruled in the world. That men and women had to act a certain way and that women should be feminine while on the other hand men should only be masculine. The time in which the short story Boys and Girls took place was a time when men and women were not equal. Mothers had traditional roles, which often left them working in the house while men also had their roles outside of the house. The male was the dominate figure while the woman had to be subservient. You didn t see women outside unless they had to go outside and does something for example, hang the clothes on wires and so on. Gender Inequality took a toll on women in the early 1950 s. In the short story Boys and Girls the main character is a young girl who struggles within herself and also has external struggles as her father tries to change who she is and force her into a gender role that he thinks is important. Munro does not give the girl a name and by doing this the protagonist is seen as someone who has no identity and no power. This little girl in the story helps her father in their fox breading farm which she enjoyed so much. Sadly that all changed for her as she got older and her help wasn t needed. The narrator had problems coming in to terms with the role she was to lead. She wanted to work outside with her father doing the work that she only knew to do and this work was so important to her. But sadly the narrators mother tried to her in to work inside the house which I would say to wing her off of what she enjoyed so much in the fox farm.
