3. Paramount Case Analysis Essay
1. WHY IS PARAMOUNT A TAKEOVER TARGET?
Paramount is a potential merger target to Viacom and QVC for a few key reasons outlined below:
Paramount Viacom:
(1) Synergy creation: The businesses of both companies are famous and highly complementary to
each other.
(2) Cost reduction: Paramount Viacom both have economies of scale and are doing business in a
similar industry.
(3) Addition of enhanced and complementary distribution capabilities, which will significantly
increase revenue.
(4) Better positioning: Will allow Viacom to gain a stronger competitive advantage against its peers.

Overall, Viacom seems like a much more viable target, for the main reason of having much greater
similarities with Paramount as compared to QVC.
3. VALUE PARAMOUNT AS A STANDв
ЂђALONE COMPANY USING BOTH THE APV AND
WACC METHOD.
After making assumptions about various valuation metrics and figures, we were able to value
paramount as a stand alone company using both the APV and WACC methods.
Our base case valuation (APV) was $46.11 per share
Our base case valuation (WACC) was $40.92 per share
Our assumptions and calculations leading up to these valuations are outlined in our exhibits 1
through 5.
We have specified the sources of our assumptions in exhibit 1, with a detailed segment on
assumptions that might require further reasoning.
4. AFTER VALUING PARAMOUNT, COMPARE YOUR VALUATION TO THE MARKET
PRICE. ARE THEY SIMILAR? IF NOT, HOW CAN YOU RECONCILE THEM?
Upon arriving at $46.11 (APV) and $40.92 (WACC) valuations for Paramount, we noticed that
these valuations were at a discount to the market price of $55.50.
Our reconciliation for this undervaluation is that the market is already pricing in a takeover.
Some evidence of this can be demonstrated by the 1.0 beta of paramount. If we look at the 1992 Q1

5. The Price Of Crude Oil Essay
Abstract
The price of crude oil has experienced a sharp decline since June, 2015. The stunning fall in oil
prices has been one of the most important global macro economic developments of the past 20
months. There are numerous factors that have contributed to the oil price crash and the downturn
of the oil and gas industry. These factors would further be discussed in this paper . Causes of Oil
Price Crash in Recent Times
The oil industry is full of economic booms and busts. Recently, the industry is in a downturn and
the price of crude oil has dropped significantly. In recent times, the price of oil has dropped by more
than 40% since June 2015. This crash came after nearly five years of stability and the economies
hardly hit by this downturn are oil exporting countries such as Russia, Nigeria, Iran and Venezuela.
In the past one year and a half, oil prices have been cut in half and oil executives have predicted it
will be years before oil prices return to $100 per barrel. The major causes of the downturn are the
declining prices of a barrel of oil, which is as a result of the strong U.S. dollar, oversupply, OPEC
and declining demand.
The oil price is partly determined by actual supply and demand and partly by expectation.
Demand for energy is closely related to economic activity. Supply can be affected by weather and
by geopolitical upsets. Recently, demand for energy is low because of weak economic activity,
inctreased efficiency, and a growing switch away from oil to

king. He won many battle by himself and created a fear between his opponents. His behavior wasn

Enkidu was to have somebody who could fight and destroy Gilgamesh. This last was a blend of
animal and human, who acted more as a beast. He lived among the beast, was raised and respected

La Luna La Luna is a short film made by Pixar in 2011. It is a sweet animation movie in the
drama genre about coming of age, traditions and responsibility being passed through generation to
generation. It is a very moving short film that is succinct with no dialogue. The prominent stars
who have voice overs in this film are Krista Sheffler who plays the kid, Tony Flucile who plays the
father and Phhil Sheridan who plays the grandfather.
La Luna tells the story of a young boy joining his father and grandfather for the first time to learn
about his family s unusual line of work. The y are paddling out to sea in an old wooden boat but
little deos the boy know that a surprise awaits him as they anchor in the middle of the sea. While
trying to please both his father and grandfather the boy is absorbed by the magic of the new world.

own proving to his father and grandfather that there is more than one right way to do something.
Not only did I find this movie stunning visually but I found that the movie made me feel like I was
there in the moment with the boy following his discoveries and exploring the new land which made
me feel more connected to the story and the timing of interesting plot twists and new discoveries

the best overall person that I can be within my personal and professional life. My goals are to
inspire and help others and myself around me to achieve greatness and a balance that will
maximize our potential that will transcend the boundaries of our dreams. In addition to my
mission statement, my core life values are the foundation of my mission statement, which
allows me to uphold my promises and standards. These promises and standards will afford me
the opportunity to improve the life of others and myself for the better. Therefore, there are four
particular core values that I live by each and every day. The four values are commitment,
compassion, dedication, and optimism. The first core value, commitment, embodies the theme
of loyalty and honor. I work hard each day to live up to the promises that I make to finish tasks,

value that I live by is compassion because I wholeheartedly believe in being kind to everyone and
helping those in need. The third value that I live by is dedication. Along with the previous two

While there are many reasons that change fails to occur, there is indeed a lack of protection,
strength of people s freedom of speech, and corruption within the government. This failure to
protect freedom of speech results in the often deadly threats of journalists, human right activists
and even media outlets. There were approximately 87 complaints of threats and 8 journalists were
killed in 2016. A photographer once took a picture of the Guatemalan President sleeping and
claims say it cost him his job. The failure of strengthening Guatemalans freedom of speech also
causes for citizens to be uninformed of what outrageous events occur in the government when they
fear speaking out. Corruption also could lead to the disappearance of money and constituents trust

Interviewer:That s understandable. You said you looked at the directory, what about when you

my parents were there too, so it was really hard because there were so many schools that I really

Asexual or Sexual Reproduction There are many methods of reproduction, but the two main
methods are sexual and asexual, but which one is more efficient or beneficial. Sexual reproduction
is the fusing of two gametes to produce an offspring. This form of reproduction is used by a lot of
organisms, including us. Asexual reproductionis reproduction that only involves one parent. (
Pros and cons of sexual and asexual reproduction ). I am going to focus on asexual reproduction
and the Desert Grassland Whiptail Lizard. This unique lizard uses asexual reproduction. Asexual
reproduction is better for this species of lizards because it only requires one parent, it is less risky,
and the population is only female.

2.2. Connecting Healthcare Leadership with Sustainable Development
Sustainability helps in lowering operational costs and allows hospitals to direct more funds to
patient care. Healthcare systems should chase sustainability for a wide array of reasons with
multiple tools and in a variety of ways, with leaders seeking resolutions that work best for their
facilities. Hospital leaders should ask their managers to assess the organization s current advance to
environmental sustainability and create an action plan for finding greater efficiencies (Health
Research Educational Trust, 2014).
When pursuing Sustainability; healthcare leaders should focus on the 10 Megaforces which will

Academic researchers as well as media commentators frequently argue that race relations in the
United States have worsened considerably over the past decade. Many Americans would disagree or
have different views on the previous statement being true. As the years go by, society is
continuously modified and changed through innovation, discovery, and cultural awareness. The
term racerelations is peculiar. It is not about racial conflict, racial domination, racism, or racial
formation. Instead it has a palliative orientation: improving the way in which two or more races and
their members act toward one another (Howard 2009:1852).

tribes, but a nation of them white and black, Christian and Muslim, and many others, too. Its
sense of nationalism has evolved unevenly; slowly incorporating an ever growing chunk of the
people within its borders, and it has made steady progress (Vance 2016). Back in 1960, over 50%
of Americans said they would never vote for a black president. Ironically, forty eight years later
Barack Obama became the first African American to be elected president in 2008 and four years
later was re elected, in 2012. This is just one of many examples of racial progression in the United
States. For instance, a 2013 Gallup poll found that, in 1958, only 4% of Americans approved of
black white marriage, but now 87% of Americans approve of multiracial marriage (Newport 2013).
Sociologists traditionally view multiracial marriage as a benchmark for the ultimate stage of
assimilation of a particular group into society, which exemplifies racial progress in America ()

Many Good Hearts: Unifying Humans by Human Nature by Alex Prindle I have never
experienced space travel, and I probably will never get the chance to have that experience, but
one of the common insights that astronauts claim while looking at planet earth from outer space
that they cannot see any boundaries between different countries or cultures. The only view
possible is one planet that is separated by two elements: land and sea. Every human being
assumedly is born of the same planet, so thus when looking down at planet earth, each world
conflict or issue can seem so insignificant due to the fact that we are all born in the same place;
we all get experience light from the same sun (49), and these aspects of life unify us as living
beings. The Good Heart, also the title of the acclaimed novel written by the Dalai Lama, is revealed
as a metaphor and symbol for unity and spiritual equality. This unity mainly illustrated through a

Peace, Purity, Submission and Obedience; these four words establish the fundamental explanation
of the word Islam. A deep study of Islamic teachings and thought reveals that Islam is a religion of
peace, security and protection; the true believers in the sight of God and His Messenger are those
who embody those qualities. The dominant religion of Islamhas been the center of much attention
and controversy in today s civilization. The Western perspective subjugates Islam and the Muslim
counterparts as violent, aggressive, deviant and terroristic; all of which have no factual
significance to the religion of Islam and the teachings of the scriptures of the Holy Quran.
However, growing incidences of suicide terrorism in Islamic civilizations bestow this stereotypical
belief of the Islamic religion connectedness to suicide terrorism. Hence, this depiction falsifies a
true representation of Islam and the teachings of the Quran but perhaps has become the dominant
ideology of Western Culture to instill fear, moral panic and demonize the religion of Islam in the
creation of modern day Islamaphobia. The correlation of Islam and suicide terrorism is not an
accurate representation of the teachings of the Quran and hadiths but rather a stereotypical

In this essay I will analyze and differentiate two completely contrasting legacies left behind by
Cain and Seth, the descendants of Adam and Eve. Reflecting on the point in time where Eve
appointed eponyms for her children, their very names conceptualized a foreshadowing of this
apparent contrast. In Hebrew, Cain means spear and Seth means anointed or granted a name that
alludes to Eve s utterance found in Genesis 4:25, God has granted me another child in the place
of Abel since Cain killed him . This sets the tone of the significant dissimilarity of their character
later distinguished in the narrative of Genesis. Cain was the primary exploitation for murder, and
not only the act of killing, but that of his beloved brother. (Genesis 4:11 16) And in the midst of

22. Should Animal Testing Be Used Only For Medical Research
Should animal testing be used only for medical purposes in New Zealand?
By Jihad Mohd Erfino
Introduction:
Animal testing is one of the most controversial scientific issues debated around the world. It
questions the right of wild animals to be used in commercial, cosmetics and even for medical
research purposes. Although it happens in most of the world (including New Zealand) today, many
question whether it should go on. Animal testing is generally the use of animals for different
purposes in lab conditions.
Brief history of animal testing and achievements: Animal testing has existed since the 2nd
century BCE through the work of Greek scientist Aristotle (Animal testing Wikipedia). He was
the first one to have made experiments on live animals. The first animal testing experiments was
to find out how our bodies work. For example, the discovery of blood circulation in mammals
was discovered in the 12th century by Arabic scientist Ibn Al Nafis and this was refined later in
the 17th century by William Harvey. Animal testing has also played a vital role in human medical
advances. It has helped developed vaccines to cure diseases such as polio which has almost been
eradicated. It has also have helped humans to have a better understanding of our bodily
mechanisms, function and several diseases. Some diseases that cannot be cured yet can be treated
better due to animal testing discoveries.

23. Four Basic Elements Of Hirschi s Social Bond Theory
Hirschi s social bond theory is made up of four basic elements; attachment, commitment,
involvement and belief. The element of attachment has to do with one s involvement in society, and
the bonds they form with others. Social bond theory is based on the idea that deviancy occurs in an
individual when social connections are weak or non existent, the element of attachment has to do
with the bonds one forms with individuals or institutions. Attachment acts as an indirect control
factor, as attachment determines one s status in society, which in turn determines how much social

Hirschi s social bond theory differs from his self control theory, as his social bond theory has to do
with external factors rather than internal. Social bond theory sees the social control factor as fluid,
whereas self control theory sees it as stagnant. Self control theory has to do with the individual, and
their internal beliefs which are cemented in their upbringing. Social bond theory sees beliefs as
fluid, based on the interactions that occur over an individuals lifespan. The two theories basically
see crime as an internal vs external factor, stemming from the individual s experiences. 2. I believe
early intervention programs in schools would be effective, as they help children form social bonds
with their peers, thus integrating them into the elementary school institution. Students spend most
of their lives in school, developing a strong attachment to the institution and their peers would help
strengthen their conventional beliefs, as school is a conventional institution. As one s conventional
beliefs are strengthened, the possibility of deviance is greatly reduced due to the influence of
taught morals and strong social bonds. Integrating one into a conventional institution such as a
school would prove to be very effective, based on social bond theory. Supporting two parent
families would also be effective, as a two parent environment would lead to a higher level of
attachment. As one would have a higher level of attachment with their

Nina practices every day trying to reach the perfect performance but can never lose herself as the
Black Swan. I anticipate that when a person is obsessed with one thing, other things in life
become neglected, and for Nina s case, her growth and maturity is neglected because of her
commitment to ballet since a very young age. She became so focused on dancing that she had no
room for personal development, which affects her Black Swan performance and makes her feel
useless as she feels incomplete without achieving perfection. Her self idealisation and desire for
perfection cause her emotional and mental instability, resulting in her developing terrifying
hallucinations and paranoia due to the amount of her pressure from the dual role, fueled by her
obsession. This made me understand Aronofsky s purpose and the logical portrayal of how
striving for perfection can lead to destructive consequences and result in unrealistic and
obsessive behaviours. As the idea of perfect can be difficult to obtain, and when we expect so
much from ourselves and fail to reach those standards, we immediately feel worthless. This also

Bartleby, however, who prefers not to do any work after a short period of working in the office,
greatly discourages the lawyer because he does not prove useful in any way.
As a further character development, Melville encourages the reader to consider Bartleby himself
as a type of dead letter (Weinstock). Bartleby doesn t serve the purpose he intended to when he
refuses to do work, in the same way the dead letters (1111) that Bartleby used to work with did not
serve the function they were intended for. It is important to note that in a dead letter office, the
letters are undeliverable and so they have their content destroyed. Bartleby would prefer not to do
anything and thus wasted away to death a drawn out process of content destruction. In this case the
content refers to Bartleby s soul (1098) and hope, and eventually, self.
We can expect that the lawyer s prolonged exposure to an attitude such

30. Comparing France and Us Criminal Justice System Essay
There many different criminal justice systems in the world today. Some that consists of many of
the same policies and some that are considerably different. In the case of France and the U.S.
there are a lot of similarities, but I will be focusing on the differences between each of their
systems. The aspects that I will be comparing are police, courts, the legal profession, legal
education, criminal procedural law, corrections, and juvenile justice and the advantages and
disadvantages of each.
The policing system in France is a lot different than the one in the U.S. In France there is one big
centralized police system run by the government. Unlike the fragmented police model, which is
found in the United States and is attributed to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another difference between the two countries is their court system. France does not practice
judicial review. In the United States, the Supreme Court has the principle responsibility of ruling on
the constitutionality of all laws. This kind of judicial review is not practiced in France (Terrill 232).
In France they have the Constitutional council which has nine members serving a nine year term,
they are responsible for election complaints and the legislation made in parliament. The advantage
of this is that it reduces the conflict of jurisdictions. But the disadvantage is that our Supreme Court
has a longer term than the Constitutional Council which allows more constant laws and fewer laws
that will contradict each other.
The aspect of legal profession and legal education is also extremely different. To become a judge
in France you must first obtain a law degree from a university law school. Next you must gain
admission to the National School for the Judiciary at Bordeaux (Terrill 236). After completing
this school, the candidate is now qualified to become a judge. The French system allows judges
to begin their profession at an early age which could be a disadvantage because of lack of
experience in the system, where judges in the United States are usually older and more
knowledgeable.
The legal education is noticeably different from America. In France, students enter a university

31. Education and Emerson Essay
1.In this essay, Ralph Waldo Emerson describes his view of an ideal education. What are its
defining characteristics?
I believe his defining characteristics on his view of an ideal education would have to include the
motherly guidance way of education, the teachers working on each student individually and the
teachers inspiring the students to think for themselves by giving them encouragement for their
thoughts.
2.In what ways is Emerson s advice appropriate to a child s first teacher his or her parents?
Some ways Emerson s advice is appropriate to a child s first teacher and his/her parents is the
advice of motherly guidance or a guiding hand. A hand that does not punish harshly, rather a hand

6.Emerson refers to educating a boy and a man and uses masculine pronouns when referring to
students. As a reader, does this gender bias affect how receptive you are to Emerson s ideas?
It may increase receptivity for me because I am a teenage boy but I m not if it has much of an
affect when compared with girls reading this essay. I m not sure if it matters much.
7.Describe the adult that Emerson imagines would emerge from an education based on the principles
he supports.
Emerson probably would imagine an adult that would emerge from an education based on the
principles he supports would be hungry for the truth, would look towards the future and learning,
would not be afraid to share his ideas but what know for the most part right from wrong, and he
would have enthusiasm associated to learning. This adult be it a girl or boy will be a college of
knowledge or a wealth of knowledge with their own thoughts and opinions.
1.What does Emerson mean when he says, Nature loves analogies, but not repetitions (para.1)?
He means nature loves similarities with distinct differences not the same thing over and over again.
2.Why is the relationship between Genius and Drill, as Emerson explains it, paradoxical (para.3)?
It seems pretty self contradictory but it does shed some light on his idea. The child wants to learn

33. The First American Army By Bruce Chadwick Essay
The main topics of The First American Army are the stories of eight men and their marches into
battle, during the American Revolution. Bruce Chadwick, the author of The First American
Army , is a professor, historian, lecturer, and author of over 28 books. He earned his doctorate in
American History at Rutgers University, where he now teaches part time. The American
Revolution seemed like an interesting subject. The first chapter was about the battle of Bunker
Hill. This battle took place on the seventeenth of June, 1775 in what was known as the
Charlestown peninsula. The battle was over dominance of three highly elevated hills, Bunker,
Breed s, and Morton s, which were held by the American rebels. General Thomas Gage, the
commanding general for the British, ordered an artillery attack on the hills followed by an attack
of more than fifteen hundred troops. The most amusing part of the primary assault was that after
landing General William Howe, the man in charge of the operation, realized that they had the
wrong size cannonballs for their cannon. Howe was forced to sent boats back for the right sized
cannonballs, which was extremely amusing. Howe s army slowly marched it s way to Breed s
hill, where the Americans were patiently waiting for the British forces to get in close enough for
their attack to do serious damage. The Americans attacked the British army with such ferocity that
the British were forced to turn back and regroup. It took three assaults from the British

39. Character Changes In Roald Dahl s Lamb To The Slaughter
Imagine if you were in a happy relationship and then you got slaughtered by a frozen lamb leg.
Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl is a story about a husband and wife, and their relationship.
Throughout the story, Mary and Patrick go through many changes. In Lamb to the Slaughter by
Roald Dahl, Mary undergoes many character changes, mainly motivated by Patrick leaving her,
Patrick s death, and covering up her crime. Mary starts off the story very happy. She has the
picture perfect life, as She loved him for the way he sat loosely in a chair, for the way he came
in a door, or moved slowly across the room with long strides. She loved intent, far look in his eyes
when they rested in her, the funny shape of the mouth, and especially the way he remained silent
about his tiredness, sitting still with himself until the whiskey had taken some of it away (Dahl 1).
Mary loves her husbandso much, she thinks that everything is perfect, she has the perfect
husband and the perfect baby on the way. Everything is perfect until Patrick says, I ve got
something to tell you (Dahl 2). Patrick tells Mary that he is leaving her, he will give her money
and make sure she and the baby were taken care of, but he is leaving. Mary is not happy, Her first
instinct was not to believe any of it, to reject it all. It occurred to her that perhaps he hadn t even
spoken, that she herself had imagined the whole thing (Dahl 2). Mary is devastated, her life is
falling apart and she is trying to keep it all together. This is where we see a big change in Mary.
She goes to get meat for supper, when she returns Patrick says, For God s sake, he said, hearing
her, but not turning round. Don t make supper for me. I m going out. At that point, Mary
Maloney simply walked up behind him and without any pause she swung the big frozen leg of
lamb high in the air and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his head (Dahl 2).
Mary has been pushed over the edge here, she was so frustrated and betrayed that she reacted
rashly. Her character just completely shifted. She was so happy with the perfect life, now she
doesn t have a husband and she s a murderer. She has to think about what is going to happen next

Ancient Greece is, of course, regarded as the foundation of Western society and European
culture. Thus the plight of the Greeks in their struggle for independence aroused the sympathy
of many Europeans, from commoners and government officials to kings and queens. This led to
the formation of the London Philhellenic Committee, which helped to finance the war. The
great British romantic poet, Lord Byron (1788?1824) was seized by the romance of the Greek
cause, imagining a reborn land of Socrates (c. 470?399 BCE) and Plato (c. 428?348 BCE), and
set off to Greece to take up arms in the cause of Greek independence. He helped raise money as
he made his way south but died of a fever in Greece. Nonetheless, his death made him a martyr of
sorts and increased European sympathy for the Greeks. Two years later, the French romantic
painter, Eug?ne Delacroix (1798?1863), painted his famous representation of the Ottoman massacre
of Greeks at Chios in 1822. Like Byron?s poetry, Delacroix?s art further cast the Greeks in a
romantic light for Europeans.Comment by

This assertion has always involved universally several profoundly felt assumptions. 1. That
humans, unlike all other creatures, are called upon to develop, to become better than they are. 2.
That to be most fully human requires individual choice and development by cooperative action
with identifiable but demanding conditions. 3. That these conditions are truly universal,
applicable and available to all people and in that sense absolute both in practice and in idea. In
The Bhagavad Gita, for example, the poet says that whenever he reads the words of Krishna to
Arjuna he enters into the Gita s predicament and experiences a change of soul. Similarly the
Christian Gospels invite the hearers of the Word to participate in a divine life. 4. That there is
something or some others or some One who is outside and beyond us and divinely interested in
us as we succeed or fail at living up to our expectations. 5. That in stories, poems, myths, or
codes, the elements of what it means to be human, as well as the passages from one level of
awareness and life to another higher level, can be captured and shared, thus giving access to the
wisdom of the culture. This wisdom may take two forms collections of specific rules and/or stories

1. What is the purpose of interrupts? What are the differences between a trap and an interrupt? Can
traps be generated intentionally by a user program? If so, for what purpose? (Chapter 1)
Interrupt is that causes a computer processor to temporarily stop executing its current program and
execute another program instead, finally returning control to the original program. So it prevent
that more important task goes back because of less important task.
The main difference between a trap and an interrupt is where they are generated. An interrupt is a

6. What are the benefits and detriments of each of the following? Consider both the systems and the

п‚•a) Synchronous and asynchronous communication
п‚•b) Automatic and explicit buffering
a) Synchronous vs asynchronous can be called to blocking vs non blocking communication. The
benefit of synchronous communication is the simplicity and accuracy. However blocking may not
be necessary and waste time. Asynchronous communication allows messages to be delivered
without waiting. However this communication has less reliability than blocking one. b)
Automatic buffering provides a queue with in definite length; thus ensuring the sender will never
have to block while waiting to copy a message. There are no specifications how automatic
buffering will be provided; one scheme may reserve sufficiently large memory where much of the
memory is wasted. Explicit buffering specifies how large the buffer is. In this situation, the sender
may be blocked while waiting for available space in the queue. However, it is less likely memory
will be wasted with explicit buffering.
