Pit And The Pendulum
The Pit and the Pendulum is a short story narrative told by a condemned prisoner during the period of
the Spanish Inquisitions. The story takes place in Toledo, Spain and begins with the prisoner
describing a delirious state in which he sees robed judges presiding over his sentencing. Prior to the
pronounced judgment, he is overtaken by fear and faints. The story continues in vivid detail, as the
prisoner describes over a period of days, through lingering periods of consciousness, his torturous
entrapment.
As the narrative moves forward, the prisoner assumes he s been sentenced to death. He awakens alone,
in absolute blackness, for which he questions whether he is dead or alive. His thoughts pirouette
between abject terror and self imagined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While examining the tight quarters of his cold and damp surroundings, he feels piercing eyes fixed
upon him. Horror fills his body as he gazes upon large rats entering and exiting the pit of death. He
realizes he is in the same dungeon, but it is much smaller than he had envisioned. As his eyes slowly
adjust to the brightness of the lights, he becomes aware of a noise above him. Almost immediately, his
eyes catch glimpse of the movement of a pendulum. Entranced and enthralled by its animated rhythm,
he watches in both terror and delight as it swings backwards and forwards. This fascination soon turns
to fear as the prisoner realizes a scimitar is attached to the bottom of the pendulum. A maniacal terror
slowly creeps into his thoughts as he imagines the sounds of the blade first slicing into his robe and
then tearing apart his flesh. Time drags by. He and the rats feast on pungently seasoned meat. The
scimitar swings closer and closer, his death certain, when an idea occurs to him. With only seconds to
spare before the sharp blade devours him, he quickly rubs the meat on the bandages binding his hands
and feet. The smell attracts the rats who rush in and chew the bandages lose. He slides off the wood
plank only seconds before his skin is perforated. Euphoria fills him at his victory over the pendulum

Of Culture In Richard Rodriguez sBlaxicans And Other...
Culture is the way a person acts, reacts, and thinks; it is the part of a person that never stays the same
it is malleable. The real life example of culture would be a fire, the more you add to it the bigger it
grows. This idea of the fire can be analyzed in Richard Rodriguez s essay, Blaxicans and other
Reinvented Americans, in which the author writes about America combining cultures through the
natural process of assimilation. It is also touched upon in Anand Giridharadas A Tale of Two Americas
that cultures can influence people. In Blaxicans and Other Reinvented Americans and A Tale of Two
Americas , both Richard Rodriguez and Anand Giridharadas show that immigrants have helped add to
the American culture by having a diverse community which allows the influence of different cultures.
In Blaxicans and other Reinvented Terms Rodriguez argues that Americans are able to combine
cultures by having a diverse community which allows the influence of different cultures. One example
of this would be an anecdote Richard Rodriguez gave about a young girl who combined the culture of
her parents, because her father was African American and her mom was Mexican The girl said
Blaxican by reinventing language, she is reinventing America (188 190). Based on this evidence this
little girl added a new term to America which is Blaxican . The parents were from different
backgrounds and decided to interact with each other and the girl is a result of their interactions. Since

The Public Administration Advisory Committee
The UIC Public Administration Advisory Committee has assigned Aida Demirovic and Miguel
Mosqueda with three tasks (1) creating an engagement alumni plan, (2) incorporating hands on work
experience throughout the program, and (3) increasing curriculum focus to include data analysis and
project management. In order to conduct an extensive and in depth analysis of the three tasks, the team
took several approaches. In regard to alumni engagement the team assembled two focus groups. The
focus group was chosen for its rich answers and immediate results. The results and analysis will be
discussed in the rest of the paper. In regard to hands on work experience, the team created side by side

greater. The only criteria the participants had to meet was that they were alumni or within their last
semester of graduation. The questioner was created by our team, approved by our contact, and looked
over by the UIC research lab. Our initial focus group was conduced by October 30th, 2014. This focus
group was led by the team and consisted of two male and two female alums of the program. Of the
four participants three had concentrated on financial management. One participant had created their
concentration with department approval. Of the four participants want double majored in Local
government. All of the participants had graduates in either 2013 or 2014. Data to follow. Second focus
group to be conducted November 10th, 2014. Data to follow. Hands On Work Experience The UIC
Department of Public Administration, with the work from a prior Capstone Team SWAT analysis,
identified past and current students want more hands on work experience prior to graduating. In order
to ascertain if assisting students obtain more work experience is a feasible project, we have researched
the top five competitor programs as identified by the previous capstone team to see if they have or

Mathematics And Science Textbooks Manifesto
Mathematics and Science Textbooks Manifesto
Imagine yourself sitting at a table in the library during the finals week, trying to get the most out of a
bulky textbook within a limited amount of time. It feels like you are struggling to escape from a
burning flame behind your back; you do not want to fail the tests, but you do not have much time
either... The textbook contains a lot of information, but you cannot get all the knowledge you need
from it instantly as you wish. It is like having a full set of swords in your arsenal, but you can only use
an ordinary one to fight with a gigantic monster; that is definitely not an easy task. Reading lengthy
textbooks is absolutely time consuming, and you will have to sacrifice countless hours of ... Show

We should also get rid of confusing or too complicated information. Some textbooks integrate
knowledge from other subjects. This is not a completely bad idea, but these textbooks are not designed
solely for people who take various branches of science; for example, solving a physics problem that is
related to atomic numbers of elements could be confusing for students who have never taken
chemistry before. Since no one would want to waste their precious time reading unrelated contents,
these textbooks need to be re written.
We appreciate simplicity and efficiency. We can no longer bear trying to read those wordy textbooks
within short time. Using a tiny sword, you would not be able to beat the notorious monster. It is the
time for you to develop a more sophisticated weapon. Students usually create their own summary or
cheat sheets. These student made works are actually written in the way in which textbooks should be;
the content is shortened while the quality is still maintained. These new representations of information
are going to wipe the obsolete ones out. The unwelcoming textbooks are not needed any more as the
new forms of knowledge are more concise and more effective which are the qualities that most
textbooks do not have. We believe in everyone s potential and their perpetual effect on this world. It is
the time to use your own ability to create better textbooks for yourself and the community.
We admire the way nature creates human perception. People

impressive lady. Rose told our class that the Superior Bathhouse is home to the only brewery in a US
National Park consequently the only brewery in the world to utilize thermal spring water in their beer.
Rose is one smart, impressive business woman.
Rose had an innovative and brilliant business idea. Utilizing the hot water that runs beneath the bath

tenacity to stick with her plan. Four long years later, The Superior Bathhouse Brewery was born.

Dual Careers
In chapter 10: Gender Issues and Dual Careers of the textbook, Career Counseling: A Holistic
Approach, Vernon Zunker addresses gender issues, particularly with women and dual career couples,
in the workplace. This paper analyzes two relevant articles: 1) Pearl Jacobs and Linda Schain s
Professional Women: The Continuing Struggle for Acceptance and Equality and 2) Pamela Stone s
Opting Out. Both articles discuss the issues women face in the workplace and provide counselors,
employers, and women with facts and tools to help achieve the goal of gender equality. In Stone s

professional women forced to restructure their careers after having children. ... Show more content on

For example, the behavior of men and women in the workplace was surprisingly found to be similar.
While differences may have existed in the past, those differences are disappearing. According to
Walston, this is due to more fearless women in the workplace insisting on credit for their
accomplishments. Women are actively working to shatter the glass ceiling . Once can assume with the
continuation of dual earner households and shared roles, there will be no place for gender stereotyping
in the future workplace. Therefore, if employers are recognizing the shared work and family roles of
both genders, while aware of the fact that businesses with family friendly policies have more reliable
employees, then they should be putting effort into more gender research and implementing effective
family friendly policies. After all, a work environment with gender equality benefits the entire
workforce and increases productivity. While some of these policies have major kinks to work out,
recent research shows these problems will be resolved in

Summary Of Magic Johnson And Larry Bird
The National Basketball Association (NBA) has transformed over the many of years as an
organization and a brand, into a multibillion dollar business that draws thousands and thousands of
fans to each and every game. Many contributing factors have made the NBA what it is today, but the
main cause of this gain in interest is the ultimate rivalry between two remarkable players, Earvin
Magic Johnson and Larry the Legend Bird. The battling rivalry amongst these individuals is
comparable to the feud of Coca Cola and Pepsi, or, Star Wars and Star Trek. During the era of modern
television, and the still and ever present racial bigotry, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird helped redefine
the game of basketball and popularity of the NBA with their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Yes, many could argue that former and following rivalries between individuals such as George Mikan
and Bob Cousy or Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett could be compared to the Magic Bird rivalry,
however timing for Magic and Bird couldn t been any more fitting.
During the 80 s, the period of which these individuals played, the NBA desperately needed a new
spark, and the NBA got just what it needed. Larry Bird s Celtics during the 1979 80 season made a
dramatic improvement from a 29 53 record the year before to 61 21 (Magic Johnson and). While Bird
is making an extraordinary turnaround for his Boston Celtics, Magic Johnson, during his rookie
season, won a NBA championship for the Los Angeles Lakers. This was the Los Angeles Lakers
seventh NBA championship victory. Their success helped the NBA, but their identities off the court
supersedes the game of basketball. The years previous to the Magic Bird rivalry were ever changing.
The NBA changed from a fundamental, half court game with all white players, to a quick pace,
athletically acrobatic game with mainly black players. Few old school former white people, such as
Jerry West and Pete Maravich, could participate and compete in this new form of basketball. This
different style of basketball significantly swayed many viewers, white fans, from attending the NBA
games. White fans felt that the game was very egocentric and didn t involve all the players. Also, the
white fans didn t

Wall-E versus Feed Essay
Technological progress has merely provided us with more efficient means for going backwards (
Brainy Quotes 1). While this epitomizes modern time, it also represents M.T. Anderson s Feed and
Pixar s Wall E. Feed is a book about a dystopian society influenced by a device, called feed ,
implanted in the brains of the citizens. The author describes a group of regular teenagers that venture
to the moon for a spring break vacation of partying and going in mal . The main character, Titus, falls
for a girl named Violet who is not like the other stereotypical teens in this book. Violet received the
feed when she was much older and she is homeschooled so her brain is more developed. Together,

He writes of an extreme point where the world needs air factories to live. While Violet is talking to her
father she realizes, the forest s gone. Yeah. Jefferson Park? Yeah. That was knocked down to make an
air factory (Anderson 125). The environment in Feed can t even produce air anymore so the air is
machine made and fake. Similarly, the environment in Wall E is also polluted; however, the problem is
more severe. The earth has been completely abandoned for 700 years and the improvement of earth
has been given into the hands of a garbage collecting robot, Wall E. All of humanity moved to outer
space to live in a ship controlled by robots and centered on technology. The ads on the ship broadcast
the advances of space stating that if there was too much garbage in your face on earth, than there is
plenty of space out in space! (Wall E). In the futuristic book, Feed, children are implanted with a feed
that displays advertisements and controls all thoughts, emotions, and memories. M.T. Anderson writes
using satire of consumerism and deteriorates the complexity in the main character, Titus s, language.
Additionally, the characters are influenced by the ads they see, When we got off the ship, our feeds
were going fugue with all the banners (Anderson 8). Not only is consumerism an aspect in Feed, but it
is also found in Wall E. When all humans move to outer space, they adapt an easy lifestyle that

Subjective Jail Classification System
Subjective classification: Subjective jail classification is a system that relies on the gut feeling of the
classification staff when making decisions, especially housing decisions. This approach relies on a
review of jail records (if inmate had been incarcerated before), current charge, criminal history (prior
incarcerations), social history, substance abuse history, mental health history, and the impressions of
the classification staff interviewer to make placements. Subjective jail classification has been
described as a clinical, intuitive, seat of the pants approach. This approach relies on opinions and

Classification is a key management tool that helps jail staff make educated decisions about inmate
housing arrangements, custody levels, staff precautions, work assignments, and program involvement.
The classification process begins with interviewing the inmate to determine the security level that best
suits the inmate. It determines the best and safest housing for the inmate. Classification reassesses
inmates after a brief time in incarceration to determine programs and privileges for the inmate. There
are many goals and benefits in classification. Classification protects inmates from one another, weaker
from stronger, mentally ill from heathier inmates. It also identifies and addresses security risk like
contraband traffickers, gang members, and escape risk. Inmate classification also strengthens security,
effectively uses resources, provides a platform for consistent decision making, improve efficacy and
effectiveness, and reduces liability for jail. Classification procedures are basically the same the inmate
is asked a series of questions about their lifestyle, criminal history, current charges, and gang
affiliation. The inmate is also observed for behavioral and mental health problems during the
classification. Based on the outcome of the interview the inmate is temporary housed to the best needs

Children At A Local Fitness Center
For my observations, I interviewed Penny who teaches gymnastics to children at a local fitness center.
She teaches classes every Friday and Saturday to children ranging from 2 14 years old. I observed her
multiple times and recorded 6 hours of observations. After talking to Penny Lane, I found out she did
gymnastics as a child at her local fitness center. She was a student for there for about 8 years, while
growing up. Then while she was in high school she was asked to teach for students at her fitness
center. She enjoyed it so much that when she moved up to Bellingham, she asked the fitness center in
town if she could teach some lessons. At the time, no one was teaching gymnastics and the fitness
center said that she could teach. She was able to create her own lesson plans and has been working at
this location for 2 years. This is how she was able to get involved with this type of work. She did
mention a few struggles with the job such as the fitness center does not have a lot of funding and that
sometimes hinders the lessons and she explained that older students tend to drop out and go
somewhere else. When I asked her how she felt about her work she said that it was easy and fun. She
really enjoys working with kids and feels comfortable teaching gymnastics. She wants to keep this job
throughout her schooling because she wants to be an elementary school teacher once she graduates
from college. She doesn t make very much money so, I would say based off of my observations

Comparing Odour Of Chrysanthemums And The Rocking Horse
In the short stories Odour of Chrysanthemums and The Rocking Horse Winner, written by D.H.
Lawrence, women are represented as the inferior gender, both of who are not content with their lives,
due to living in their husband s shadows and picking up the pieces of their family s problems. Both
mothers are portrayed by Lawrence as not being entirely innocent, however, they do have a lot to deal
with, such as the mother s need for materialistic success in The Rocking Horse Winner and the mother
s need to be both parental roles, due to the lack of the father s presence in The Odour of
Chrysanthemums.
Elizabeth Bates, the wife and mother in the short story Odour of Chrysanthemums is first shown as a
long suffering wife who deserves sympathy from the reader, after her husband s death, it reveals that
she is not as blameless for her unhappiness as first thought. Although the story is told in third person,
the narration itself focuses itself around Elizabeth s perspective. The effect of the third person
narrative is so we, as the reader, learn the families events through Elizabeth s eyes, and therefore feel

ecosystem and communities is becoming more frequent and leaving human and environmental
casualties behind. It is during Hurricane Sandy where I observed and experienced firsthand the selfless
efforts of, what moments earlier were strangers, to individuals coming together as a community for a
common purpose in helping one another. While the nation state searched for loop holes and invented
reasons justifying their limited / lack of involvement. It s this reason why I argue the responsibility of
the future and sustainability of the city is in the hands of its community (including its local
government). It is inhumane to treat this planet with such disregard, we must see that we are as much
connected to her as she is to us and it is our responsibility and obligation to protect where we learn
and love, work and sleep, pray and play, grow and eat, and finally die (Barber 2013, 13). Granted, due
to financial challenges, there are limitations to Den Haag 2040 climate neutral initiative, however
based on my research, this is not stopping nor discouraging the community and campaigns like Den
Haag Fossielvrij from their continued fight for their city and the planet. The challenge is upon us.
What is the bottom line here? The bottom line is that desperate times call for despite unity make no

Language, Power, And The Classroom Analysis
While reading chapter six from Beyond Grammar Language, Power, and the Classroom, written by
Mary R. Harmon and Marilyn J. Wilson, I began to realize how much we become caught up in the
rules of the so called Standard American English. It is sad because people are being judged on their
dialect, which is a representation of who people are and where they are from. I have found myself
correcting people that have a different dialect, or correcting people that say words that I have been told
were not proper language, such as the word ain t. Standard American English is something that is
embedded in our brains at a young age and as we go through school; language is something teachers
are constantly correcting children on. Reading about dialect has ... Show more content on

Therefore, I love that Harmon and Wilson states that No dialect limits its speakers ability to express
complex thoughts, to think critically, or to use a full range of linguistic functions and purpose (154
55). As a society and as future teachers, we need to teach our students that people have different
dialects, and the differences do not make anyone less smart, or less of a person just like Harmon and
Wilson explain that, Dialects are different not deficient systems (155). Everyone wants to be treated
equal and have equal opportunities; therefore, everyone needs to be more open minded and realize that
everyone has their own dialect, which does not make them any less of an intellectual person than
anyone else. Reading chapter six from Beyond Grammar Language, Power, and the Classroom,
written by Mary R. Harmon and Marilyn J. Wilson has open my eyes not to base peoples language off
from standard American English because everyone has a different dialect depending on their culture. I
am going to be more mindful of peoples dialect, and not be quick to judge a person based on their
language because a person s language is what makes that individual unique. Instead, I am going to
embrace the different dialects and use them as an advantage when teaching a classroom

Receiving a diabetic diagnosis from a medical professional forever changes the way in which you will
approach daily life. Your eating habits will be one of the most important changes you make upon
becoming diabetic. Consuming a variety of healthy foods throughout the day and not skipping meals
will become an essential part of your new lifestyle. Another important aspect of your lifestyle change
will be learning about diabetic needles and the role those needles play in your life.

On any given day, you likely self administer several insulin medication injections into your body. For
that reason, you need the reassurance that the syringe you are using is the right tool for the situation
and that it will perform without failing each time. To find the right syringe for you, look at the design
of the syringe tip.
The syringe tip is what holds the needle securely in place when it enters into your skin. You want to
look for a 3cc syringe with a Leur Lock feature in place. That locking system keeps the needle in place
with a simple twist in one direction. After administering the medication, you simply twist the tip in the
opposite direction to release the needle for safe disposal.
Bulksyringes.com is the only online syringe and needle supply company that meets Comodo security

Pro And Negative Effects Of Medical Technology
Though underappreciated, advancements in medical technology are imperative to the success of the
human race as a whole. For instance, some of the most common medical procedures such as
amputation, surgeries, the modern ambulance, and anesthesia inhalers were created and popularized
during the United States Civil War (Rowe). Both during the civil war and currently, the advancements
decrease death tolls while making modern and future treatments safer, faster, and overall more
efficient. They have also given the more prevailing advancements a stepping stone to develop and
grow from, allowing the forthcoming medical technology to further advance. We see this same pattern
happening perpetually, creating a loop of advancements that continue to build upon themselves and
each other.
The U.S. has the most medically advanced medical care system in the world. However, its services are
mainly available to the affluent and middle class consumers who have the financial means to demand
these services (Botehlo 1991) (Dewar). Full medical care isn t always readily available to all; only
those who may afford it have access to it. This is a result of the cost of the services themselves being
higher, due to the lack of supply (so to speak) and a growing demand. However, Dewar stated, The
practice of defensive medicine had an indirect impact on technology utilization through the pressure
for increased availability of technology (Dewar). These pressures have encouraged the United States

Thematic Transformation In Pixar s Up
Thematic Transformation in Up Released on May 29, 2009, Pixar s Up made its debut onto the big
screen, and created an entertaining viewing for a wide ranged audience. With the directorship of Pete
Docter and Bob Peterson, the team was able to create an animation picture, and bring it to life with the
music and help of composer Michael Giacchino. Throughout the course of the feature film, the
development of multiple new adventures, despite the positive and negative circumstances, take place
in the protagonist s life. In order to accommodate the diverse potential of the theme, Michael
Giacchino created a musical arrangement that, for the most part, would mold itself in order to suit the
particular action that the characters in the movie would be experiencing. This particular leitmotif is
introduced to us in the beginning when Carl, and his wife, Elli begin their lives together merrily,
through the formation of the club. However, the theme becomes ... Show more content on

Fashioned for this scene, Giacchino establishes the leitmotif that is associated with adventure
throughout the entire film. With a waltz like arrangement, the musical theme comprises mostly of a
muted trumpet, violin, and piano. As the three apparent instruments are played to this 3/4 time

his spirit). By setting the mood with this heart filled and steady tone, the trust and love manifests

Significance of the Toleration Act Essays
Significance of the Toleration Act Religious intolerance was normal practice throughout the Middle
Ages, the Reformation bringing with it much persecution. Christian Anti Semitism fuelled the
religious insecurity prevalent in Europe but by the end of the sixteenth century Poland, the Dutch
Republic and France had reached a state of tolerance , being in contrast to the religious intolerance
still present in England at this time. The passing of the Toleration Act in 1689 appears to have been a
close call, coming as it did during a particularly unstable period, making its conception all the more ...

John Prideaux, Archdeacon of Norwich at the time gives us a example of this grievance, writing in
1691 ...more lay hold of it to separate from all manner of Worship to perfect irreligion than goe to

passage above, the Act was resolutely against the unreligious who chose to go to the alehouse rather
than mass and in fact sect 16 contains a strongly worded condemnation of such behaviour.... Provided
always and it is the true intent and meaning of this Act, That all the laws made and provided for the
frequenting of Divine Service on the Lord s Day....shall still be in Force, and executed against all
persons that offend against the said Laws, except such persons that come to some Congregation or
Assembly of Religious Worship, allowed or permitted by this Act. However, the Archdeacon s
apprehension does not appear to be unfounded as in the years following the Act there was indeed an
upsurge in the publication of heterodox views and a growth of popular irreligion [2]. The Toleration
Act may not have wittingly given rise to a type of Atheism but it seems that the freedom to choose lost
the Anglican Church its power to demand faith, losing it control over social and later

Ethos of Feed the Children

Ethos Project
For Business communication class we were given the assignment of choosing two websites that where
we could analyze ethos and provide how each website appealed to the audience. The two web sites
that were chosen for this group project are, UNICEF and Feed the Children . We chose these two
websites since these are charitable websites with good moral, good will and practices which provide
great ethos. There were several differences in design and structure between the two websites which
will be described in the following paragraphs.

The In the News link sends you to a page full of news articles where the Feed the Children
organization has been involved in the community. Every webpage is informative, whether its statistics,
their presence in the news, or the several ways on how you can be involved. But it does not really
stand out or differ from other charitable organizations. The website also doesn t provide statements
from families whom they ve helped. Donors want to see that they ve made a difference in someone s
life. A thank you video clip or photo of an assisted family or school group would probably have
satisfied this issue and made this organization more desirable to participate in. It provides enough
evidence for credibility from their existence in the news and links to their financial statements. It
seems like a legit charitable organization with a good purpose but they also provide similar ethos as
displayed in other websites, which in effect doesn t necessarily derive an appeal to join this particular
organization.
Although UNICEF and Feed the Children both aim to help underprivileged children with food and
water. UNICEF focuses to help on a global level with other issues such as illnesses like HIV/AIDS,
child protection, education and gender equality. Feed the Children concentrates mainly on providing
food and water. Between both websites, the UNICEF presents itself to be more well known because of
all their assistance programs.

Gospel Of Thomas Research Paper
In the Gospel of Thomas verse 55 and John 19:25 27, they both tell a contrasting notion of Jesus and
family. Thomas tells of hardship of being able to hate one s own family members to be able to be
worthy of Jesus. John tells of a different story of Jesus having his mother and beloved disciple be
united as a family. Both stories provide an idea on how Jesus believed in how to go about following
him and following their families. In the Gospel of Thomas, the notion of giving up what we love the
most, our family, is a difficult task. It is a tough task Jesus assigned to his followers. By being able to
do so, they may be free, as Jesus is. The role of family has requirements to be made. We have different
obligations to our family, and need ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is contrast to Thomas verse 55, as Jesus family is still with him and is apart of his circle. Jesus
does not refute the notion of the beloved disciple telling Mary this is your son. It would seem Jesus
accepts her as his mother. Even if Jesus did not fully acknowledged his mother, there is some sense in
how he did not cut her off completely. This is contrasting to Matthew 12:46 50, as well, since Jesus
said his followers were his mothers and brothers. A reason for not disregarding her as his mother is
maybe Jesus knew he was about to die, and had a change of

Organization Overview and Mission
Tanglewood is a chain of general retail stores featuring items such as clothing, appliances, electronics,
and home decor. The company operates in the moderate price niche, targeting middle and upper
income customers. Tanglewood s strategic distinction is an outdoors theme, with a large camping and
outdoor living section in every store. The store also distinguishes itself by its simple, elegant, and
uncluttered design concepts for the store and their in house products. The company s mission
statement is:
|Tanglewood will be the best department store for customers seeking quality, durability, and value for
all aspects of their active|
|lives. We are committed as a company to providing maximum value to our customers, shareholders,
and employees. We will accomplish|
|this goal by adhering to the core values of responsible financial management, clear and honest
communication, and always keeping |
|performance and customer service in the forefront. |
Tanglewood was originally founded in 1975 by best friends Tanner Emerson and Thurston Wood. The
initial concept was a single store in Spokane Washington, named TannerWood, which sold a
combination of outdoor clothing and equipment that the pair had designed themselves. The employee
handbook notes that, Tanner and Thurston financed their early store plans with credit cards and

Generation X And Millennials In The Workplace
Every work environment is teeming with people from various generations. Though, the majority of
people wish for a healthy work environment this is not the easiest to come by. People from these
different generations have different ways of looking at the world. They were raised differently and
though theoretically want the same things they want to reach these goals in different ways. Rising to
leadership, the understanding of technology, adapting in the workplace, and communication are the
four criteria you need to know to understand how the people of Generation X and Millennials function
together in the workplace. In a work environment everybody wants to climb the totem pole. For
Millennials, they want to rise to leadership without working too hard for it. They are trying to reach
the leadership positions as fast as they can and at times they are unprepared for the position they enter
because they have not experienced enough along the way. Where Millennials are too fast to rise to
leadership, people considered to be Generation X, who are known for their hard work ethic and
experience are often complacent in the workplace. Though they gained their experience (unlike
Millennials) by working their way up the chain of command and gradually paying their dues and
though they also do not expect to be handed a higher position, like Millennials who feel entitled to
higher positions in the workplace, they are also not as motivated as Millennials. (Bresman) To
Millennials, growing up

Getting Into The Real Estate
If you re thinking about getting into the real estate business then there s a lot you need to take into
consideration before you make the jump. I ve been a licensed, active agent for over two years now and
I admit that in the beginning I had no clue about the costs, work, or time involved in getting started.
All I knew was I wanted to do it so I dove in head first without doing the research. Don t make that
mistake. While real estate can be a very rewarding practice, it s not necessarily for everyone. It takes a
person with a special type of motivation and sales skills to make a living with the job and most agents
can t handle the aspect of complete freedom without abusing their time. If you re curious about what it
takes to get started, then this article will clear things up. First of all, it s important for you to know
exactly what a real estate agent does. An agent assists clients in buying or selling houses. A real estate
agent must have a great knowledge of the local market and is able to tell someone how much their
house is worth. Agents also must have a general knowledge of the communities in the area, as well as
any restrictions or covenants for that same area. In a way, real estate agents serve as the backbone to
the entire deal. We assist buyers in finding a good mortgage broker, home inspector, termite inspector,
closing attorney, and many other aspects. On the flip side, real estate agents that represent sellers are
required to help conduct a comparative

A Brief Note On Mechanical Engineering And Engineering
When taking a look at the world today, it is concluded that it has now been taken over by engineers.
With new inventions being innovated day by day, the world has been improved magnificently with the
help of engineers. Although there is no way to specifically define someone as a leader, with all of the
new inventions that are created by engineers daily they can definitely be classified as leaders and
creators of todays world. In almost every corner of this earth, there is some sort of engineering
involved. Know as some of the smartest people in the world, they are what improve and make a
difference in our daily activities. Mechanical, civil, electrical, computer, and biomedical engineers are
only a few of the many that have and continue to change the world daily with their inventions.
Mechanical Engineers
Mechanical engineering is one of the types of engineering that can be found almost everywhere. For
example, automobiles, it is nearly impossible to stay away from them as they are found almost
everywhere. Mechanical engineers work on the structure, the designs and re designs of automobiles by
improving their functions to benefit and them suitable for everyone. Another form of inventions that
are fun for or everyone or at least some people are rollercoaster and rides. Rollercoaster are designed
by mechanical engineers, from top to bottom, they make sure that the structure of a certain
rollercoaster or any ride is properly engineered for the safety and entertainment of

Ignorance In Two-Handed Swords
Are two handed swords as fictionally viable as people say? When many think of a two handed sword,
they think of an overweight behemoth usually only seen in tv shows, movies, and video games. This
association, though not unreasonable, is not fair to the credit of actually used historical two handed
swords. It s apparent that some don t know how they fit in in a historical sense. Ignorance is further
spread when ceremonial and decorative two handers are mistaken for the real thing. Although, they are
probably most misrepresented in video games and anime/manga. When the term two handed sword is
used in this paper, it s referring to a few different types of swords. In this paper, it will be referring to
longswords, greatswords, bastard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From what I ve read, there are even numerous museums that put ceremonial two handers on display
and do not specify that they were not meant for use. I actually had the chance see a decorative two
handed sword recently. After giving it a few swings and testing the weight, it seemed as though it was
supposed to be imitating a type of bastard sword, or hand and a half sword. This assumption was
somewhat accurate. After some research, it was discovered to be a replica of the sword used by
William Wallace in the movie Braveheart. However, this does not make it historically accurate, as the
sword from Braveheart is a historically inaccurate replica of the actual sword that was used by the real
William Wallace. The sword from Braveheart has a basic flat crossguard and leather covering about a
fifth of the blade from the hilt. The historical sword used by William Wallace has a crossguard that
ends curling up and inwards toward the blade and no actual leather covering the blade. This is
confirmed further in the article The Scottish Claymore

  • 2. Pit And The Pendulum The Pit and the Pendulum is a short story narrative told by a condemned prisoner during the period of the Spanish Inquisitions. The story takes place in Toledo, Spain and begins with the prisoner describing a delirious state in which he sees robed judges presiding over his sentencing. Prior to the pronounced judgment, he is overtaken by fear and faints. The story continues in vivid detail, as the prisoner describes over a period of days, through lingering periods of consciousness, his torturous entrapment. As the narrative moves forward, the prisoner assumes he s been sentenced to death. He awakens alone, in absolute blackness, for which he questions whether he is dead or alive. His thoughts pirouette between abject terror and self imagined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While examining the tight quarters of his cold and damp surroundings, he feels piercing eyes fixed upon him. Horror fills his body as he gazes upon large rats entering and exiting the pit of death. He realizes he is in the same dungeon, but it is much smaller than he had envisioned. As his eyes slowly adjust to the brightness of the lights, he becomes aware of a noise above him. Almost immediately, his eyes catch glimpse of the movement of a pendulum. Entranced and enthralled by its animated rhythm, he watches in both terror and delight as it swings backwards and forwards. This fascination soon turns to fear as the prisoner realizes a scimitar is attached to the bottom of the pendulum. A maniacal terror slowly creeps into his thoughts as he imagines the sounds of the blade first slicing into his robe and then tearing apart his flesh. Time drags by. He and the rats feast on pungently seasoned meat. The scimitar swings closer and closer, his death certain, when an idea occurs to him. With only seconds to spare before the sharp blade devours him, he quickly rubs the meat on the bandages binding his hands and feet. The smell attracts the rats who rush in and chew the bandages lose. He slides off the wood plank only seconds before his skin is perforated. Euphoria fills him at his victory over the pendulum of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Of Culture In Richard Rodriguez sBlaxicans And Other... Culture is the way a person acts, reacts, and thinks; it is the part of a person that never stays the same it is malleable. The real life example of culture would be a fire, the more you add to it the bigger it grows. This idea of the fire can be analyzed in Richard Rodriguez s essay, Blaxicans and other Reinvented Americans, in which the author writes about America combining cultures through the natural process of assimilation. It is also touched upon in Anand Giridharadas A Tale of Two Americas that cultures can influence people. In Blaxicans and Other Reinvented Americans and A Tale of Two Americas , both Richard Rodriguez and Anand Giridharadas show that immigrants have helped add to the American culture by having a diverse community which allows the influence of different cultures. In Blaxicans and other Reinvented Terms Rodriguez argues that Americans are able to combine cultures by having a diverse community which allows the influence of different cultures. One example of this would be an anecdote Richard Rodriguez gave about a young girl who combined the culture of her parents, because her father was African American and her mom was Mexican The girl said Blaxican by reinventing language, she is reinventing America (188 190). Based on this evidence this little girl added a new term to America which is Blaxican . The parents were from different backgrounds and decided to interact with each other and the girl is a result of their interactions. Since ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mathematics And Science Textbooks Manifesto Mathematics and Science Textbooks Manifesto Imagine yourself sitting at a table in the library during the finals week, trying to get the most out of a bulky textbook within a limited amount of time. It feels like you are struggling to escape from a burning flame behind your back; you do not want to fail the tests, but you do not have much time either... The textbook contains a lot of information, but you cannot get all the knowledge you need from it instantly as you wish. Reading lengthy textbooks is absolutely time consuming, and you will have to sacrifice countless hours of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We should also get rid of confusing or too complicated information. Some textbooks integrate knowledge from other subjects. This is not a completely bad idea, but these textbooks are not designed solely for people who take various branches of science; for example, solving a physics problem that is related to atomic numbers of elements could be confusing for students who have never taken chemistry before. Since no one would want to waste their precious time reading unrelated contents, these textbooks need to be re written. We appreciate simplicity and efficiency. We can no longer bear trying to read those wordy textbooks within short time. Using a tiny sword, you would not be able to beat the notorious monster. It is the time for you to develop a more sophisticated weapon. Students usually create their own summary or cheat sheets. These student made works are actually written in the way in which textbooks should be; the content is shortened while the quality is still maintained. These new representations of information are going to wipe the obsolete ones out. The unwelcoming textbooks are not needed any more as the new forms of knowledge are more concise and more effective which are the qualities that most textbooks do not have. We believe in everyone s potential and their perpetual effect on this world. It is the time to use your own ability to create better textbooks for yourself and the community. We admire the way nature creates human perception. People ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While differences may have existed in the past, those differences are disappearing. Once can assume with the continuation of dual earner households and shared roles, there will be no place for gender stereotyping in the future workplace. Therefore, if employers are recognizing the shared work and family roles of both genders, while aware of the fact that businesses with family friendly policies have more reliable employees, then they should be putting effort into more gender research and implementing effective family friendly policies. • 12. Summary Of Magic Johnson And Larry Bird The National Basketball Association (NBA) has transformed over the many of years as an organization and a brand, into a multibillion dollar business that draws thousands and thousands of fans to each and every game. Many contributing factors have made the NBA what it is today, but the main cause of this gain in interest is the ultimate rivalry between two remarkable players, Earvin Magic Johnson and Larry the Legend Bird. The battling rivalry amongst these individuals is comparable to the feud of Coca Cola and Pepsi, or, Star Wars and Star Trek. During the era of modern television, and the still and ever present racial bigotry, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird helped redefine the game of basketball and popularity of the NBA with their ... Yes, many could argue that former and following rivalries between individuals such as George Mikan and Bob Cousy or Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett could be compared to the Magic Bird rivalry, however timing for Magic and Bird couldn t been any more fitting. During the 80 s, the period of which these individuals played, the NBA desperately needed a new spark, and the NBA got just what it needed. Larry Bird s Celtics during the 1979 80 season made a dramatic improvement from a 29 53 record the year before to 61 21 (Magic Johnson and). While Bird is making an extraordinary turnaround for his Boston Celtics, Magic Johnson, during his rookie season, won a NBA championship for the Los Angeles Lakers. This was the Los Angeles Lakers seventh NBA championship victory. Their success helped the NBA, but their identities off the court supersedes the game of basketball. The years previous to the Magic Bird rivalry were ever changing. The NBA changed from a fundamental, half court game with all white players, to a quick pace, athletically acrobatic game with mainly black players. Few old school former white people, such as Jerry West and Pete Maravich, could participate and compete in this new form of basketball. This different style of basketball significantly swayed many viewers, white fans, from attending the NBA games. White fans felt that the game was very egocentric and didn t involve all the players. While this epitomizes modern time, it also represents M.T. Anderson s Feed and Pixar s Wall E. Feed is a book about a dystopian society influenced by a device, called feed , implanted in the brains of the citizens. The author describes a group of regular teenagers that venture to the moon for a spring break vacation of partying and going in mal . Jefferson Park? Yeah. That was knocked down to make an air factory (Anderson 125). The environment in Feed can t even produce air anymore so the air is machine made and fake. Similarly, the environment in Wall E is also polluted; however, the problem is more severe. The earth has been completely abandoned for 700 years and the improvement of earth has been given into the hands of a garbage collecting robot, Wall E. All of humanity moved to outer space to live in a ship controlled by robots and centered on technology. The ads on the ship broadcast the advances of space stating that if there was too much garbage in your face on earth, than there is plenty of space out in space! (Wall E). In the futuristic book, Feed, children are implanted with a feed that displays advertisements and controls all thoughts, emotions, and memories. M.T. Anderson writes using satire of consumerism and deteriorates the complexity in the main character, Titus s, language. Additionally, the characters are influenced by the ads they see, When we got off the ship, our feeds were going fugue with all the banners (Anderson 8). Both during the civil war and currently, the advancements decrease death tolls while making modern and future treatments safer, faster, and overall more efficient. Where Millennials are too fast to rise to leadership, people considered to be Generation X, who are known for their hard work ethic and experience are often complacent in the workplace. Though they gained their experience (unlike Millennials) by working their way up the chain of command and gradually paying their dues and though they also do not expect to be handed a higher position, like Millennials who feel entitled to higher positions in the workplace, they are also not as motivated as Millennials. Agents also must have a general knowledge of the communities in the area, as well as any restrictions or covenants for that same area. In a way, real estate agents serve as the backbone to the entire deal. We assist buyers in finding a good mortgage broker, home inspector, termite inspector, closing attorney, and many other aspects. When many think of a two handed sword, they think of an overweight behemoth usually only seen in tv shows, movies, and video games. This association, though not unreasonable, is not fair to the credit of actually used historical two handed swords. It s apparent that some don t know how they fit in in a historical sense. Ignorance is further spread when ceremonial and decorative two handers are mistaken for the real thing. Although, they are probably most misrepresented in video games and anime/manga. When the term two handed sword is used in this paper, it s referring to a few different types of swords. In this paper, it will be referring to longswords, greatswords, bastard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From what I ve read, there are even numerous museums that put ceremonial two handers on display and do not specify that they were not meant for use. I actually had the chance see a decorative two handed sword recently. After giving it a few swings and testing the weight, it seemed as though it was supposed to be imitating a type of bastard sword, or hand and a half sword. This assumption was somewhat accurate. After some research, it was discovered to be a replica of the sword used by William Wallace in the movie Braveheart. However, this does not make it historically accurate, as the sword from Braveheart is a historically inaccurate replica of the actual sword that was used by the real William Wallace. The sword from Braveheart has a basic flat crossguard and leather covering about a fifth of the blade from the hilt. The historical sword used by William Wallace has a crossguard that ends curling up and inwards toward the blade and no actual leather covering the blade. This is confirmed further in the article The Scottish Claymore ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
