Spiritual beliefs and scientific theories – how similar are they
1. Spiritual Beliefs And Scientific Theories – How Similar Are
They?
This has always been a heated topic of discussion. Atheists or non believers believe that science
is the reason behind our existence and believers work on proving the contradictory! Each person
would have their own theories to provide evidence for what they believe in. But let us look at a
few examples that help us establish a connection between spirituality and science!
1. Namaste –
This is an age old Indian tradition that links us to spirituality but science has an explanation to
this as well. Believers say that this is to show respect to one another and to ensure that we are
neither above nor below anybody. Science has an explanation too. It says that by joining both
palms and creating pressure on the finger tips, the pressure points activate the mind and in turn
affirm that we remember the person for longer.
2. Sitting on the floor –
Spiritually sound people prefer sitting on the floor! They even have their meal on the ground. We
sure you must have come across it as well. Science says that sitting cross legged on the floor
activates the brain to order the digestion process. Also, padmasana helps you calm your nerves
down and the signals from the ground passed on to you directly is healthy.
2. 3. Starters to desserts–
Have you ever wondered why we start our meal with a starter and end with a dessert? Although
believers stay by spirituality, science agrees on the fact that when we start off with spice, the
digestive juices are triggered for the digestion to go on slickly while sweets bring the course of
action down!
4. Sun salutation –
This major aspect in spiritual yoga has drawn the attention of a lot of non-believers as well.
Known as Surya Namaskar, it is technically performed at the dawn to greet the sun and show our
gratitude. Science backs spirituality up by saying that the rays of the sun are effectively
productive at the time and the energy absorbed from the sun keeps us ticking all day with zeal.
5. Fasting –
Ever heard of Ekadashi? This is the eleventh lunar day of every lunar month followed by
believers where they fast for spiritual reasons. Well, what does science have to say to this?
According to science, the digestive system accumulates toxic materials and they need cleansing
every once in a while. Fasting gives the system and all the other body mechanisms, a rest, giving
it enough time to get rid of them and make you hearty.
So, flabbergasted? Science and spirituality go hand in hand. What they believe in might be
different but the aspect called ‘belief’ is the same and both lead us to nothing but a sound and
prolific world!
