2. Write about 3 of the main characters (Madame Merteuil, Viscount of Valmont,
Madame de Tourvel and Cecile de Volanges). Include their physical and

-Madame Merteuil: She’s a member of the French nobility, the marquise. She’s tall
and thin, and her hair is brown. Merteuil is a manipulative and an immoral woman.
- Viscount of Valmont:He’s tall and thin, and he always wears a wig. Valmont is an
arrogant and extremely manipulative man.
- Madame de Tourvel:She’s young, thin and medium-sized.Madame de Tourvel is a
religious person, and she’s so nice.
3. Write a description of the most representative locations of the age, like the
lounges (living rooms), the bedrooms or the gardens.
- Lounges: The lounges are big, with lots of enormous windows and with many objects
like paintings, sofas, chairs… There are so comfortable.
- Bedrooms: The bedrooms are so big, with a lot of furniture (sofa, bed, chairs, chest of
drawers…) and with much light.

4. Do you think that they are genuine people? What do Mme de Merteuil and the
Viscount of Valmont use to dress up in front of the people? Which physical or
material elements do they use to build their social identity?
We think that they aren’t genuine people because they need some elements to look
like more powerful or stronger.
Some of these elements to dress up and to build their social identity are: wigs make
up, jewelry, elegant clothes and shoes…
5. In the film you can find people who aren’t what they are supposed to be. The
society of that age was based on rules, conventions and traditions which stopped
people from being what they really were. What are the objectives that each
character wants to meet? What means do they use to get those objectives? Are
they really happy?
The objectives that each character wants to meet are:be more powerful and have
more lovers. That means that they can brag and they are more satisfied, but the truth
is that they aren’t really happy because they can’t get what they want: their true love.
6. Quina dona de les que hi apareixen a la pel·lícula et sembla més moderna, més
atrevida, més d’acord a l’esperit del Segle de les Llums reflectit a l’expressió
Sapereaude? Mme de Merteuil, Mme de Tourvel, Cécile de Volanges, sa mare…?
Justifica la teua resposta.
La dona que esta més d’acord amb l’esperit del Segle de les Llums és Merteuil, perquè
pensem que és una dona moderna, que fa el que pensa per aparentar ser fort i valent,
i per a que la gent pense que te molt de poder.
7. Diríeu que Mme de Tourvel és una persona “major d’edat” d’acord a l’ètica de
Kant? Hi ha algun canvi en aquesta situació al llarg de la pel·lícula? Justifica
detingudament la teua resposta utilitzant els teus coneixements.
Pensem que Mme de Tourvel si que és una persona “major d’edat”, perquè és
responsable del seus actes, no depèn de ningú i pensa molt abans de fer coses de les
que es puga arrepentir.
4. 8. La pel·lícula és una crítica a la moral i els costums de l’aristocràcia durant el segle
XVIII. Elabora tú aquesta crítica. Un element molt important és l’escena final de
Mme de Merteuil, el desenllaç de Valmont, etc.
Al segle XVIII els costums de l’aristocràcia eren molt més distints que als d’ara. Abans
l’aristocràcia tenia molts més drets i privilegis que la resta del poble, per això feien el
que volien sense que ningú s’adonara. A més la llei era molt menys dura per a ells que
per a la resta per això, no tenien tanta por de fer coses dolentes.
Al final de a pel·lícula apareix com Merteuil es desmaquilla per que l’han descobert i té
vergonya del que le gent puga pensar d’ella. Al desenllaç també mor Valmont, perquè
al no tindre al seu amor, prefereix morir a viure sense aquesta.
