Monthly Active Users across all the Facebook family of apps. “Ecosystem” is what Facebook will begin to focus more of their attention on. Their family plan, so to speak. Family of apps. Family of messaging options. Family of video options. Family of ad options.
FB = 2.3b MAU, up 2.2% from last quarter
Facebook plans to eventually phase out Facebook specific user metrics. Showing the platform is losing steam. But the larger app community is not. With WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger making up any momentum loss from the mother ship.
Per Edison Research 6% of US adults, 15 million, say they are not using Facebook anymore, compared to 2017.
And yet, profits are up 61% year over year. Incredible numbers for a 15 year old tech company.
Facebook has weathered a massive storm in 2018.

New Page Quality info from Facebook about content and users they are policing in your page or group.
“We rank feeds to encourage meaningful social interactions -- helping people connect with friends, family and their communities.”
Over the last 18 months we’ve seen Facebook go from no stories, to a large portion of their most valuable screen real estate be dominated by Stories.
Over that time period we’ve seen Stories now take up 30% or more of the Facebook home screen.
Which drove Facebook to 500 million daily active users. Facebook now has 3 story platforms that are all more than twice the size of Snapchat’s story numbers.
Update to newsfeed ranking of video content.
Just like TikTok, “Clips” allows users to record segments of videos into a single video Story. Just like TikTok, users can overlay music on clips. Just like TikTok, users can adjust the speed and timer of each video clips.

One test that could have larger implications for Twitter later this year is we have seen some accounts that are being shown way more ads than normal. Some are saying they’ve seen 10X the number of ads lately than normal. Twitter acknowledged this was a test. If the user behavior they see tells Twitter more ads would not dent platform use, expect to see a much larger ad inventory later in the year for Twitter.
They are drilling down to their highest quality users and focusing on a metric where they see real growth.

Biggest user growth in 3 years for Snapchat. Snapchat said the majority of this user spike was from their Lens filters trending off platform. But a large portion of their growth and retention momentum is because their Android app doesn’t suck anymore.
Snapchat user growth is finally climbing again. Mainly because they have fully rolled out a usable Android app. In Q2 they saw 7 million new downloads in a few weeks.
