A very intricate Bandhani art applied on 100% silk
fabric. Bandhani hand-tied design and dyed with
natural dyes. It slowly gets its natural shape over
time. It stretches and fits perfectly every time you
wear it. The art of Bandhani is a highly skilled
process. The technique involves dyeing a fabric
that is tightly hand-tied with a thread at several
points. A meter-long cloth can have millions of
tiny knots, which takes around 10 days for an
artisan to tie for this tunic.

This dress is a unique blend of an Indian fabric called
“Khadi” and traditional Indian hand embroidery called
“Ari.” Khadi is 100% natural Indian hand-spun and
handwoven cloth. It is a versatile fabric, cool in the
summer and warm in the winter. Mahatma Gandhi
promoted the production of Khadi for rural self-
employment and self-reliance. The top is hand-
embroidered with metallic and natural indigo-dyed
thread. The trims are 100% silk, natural indigo-dyed.

This 100% cotton handwoven dress is fully hand-
embroidered with all-natural indigo-dyed cotton
and metallic threads. The embroidery is called “Ari.”
Ari is one of the most ornate and tedious forms of
Indian embroidery; it uses a small crochet-hook-like
instrument called the “ari” to create a chain-stitch
look. It takes more than a week for an artisan to
embroider this dress.

cotton lining. It is fully hand-embroidered using the Pitta
technique, which includes hammering down the

embroidery gets a flat look.

Artisan-made handbag is fully hand-quilted
with raw embroidery thread and reclaimed
leather trims. Reclaimed Greige washed
muslin fabric combined with mashru silk in
the shell. Mashru is woven with a
combination of silk and cotton, the cotton
being the lower layer in touch with the skin.
This unusual blend of fabrics and hand
quilting create a unique texture on the bag’s
surface. The lining is hand-block printed in
100% cotton.

26. Ajrak
Ajrak is a unique form of hand-block printing. In the authentic Ajrak technique,
textiles are hand-printed on both sides using hand-carved wooden blocks through a
process called resist printing. The printed fabric is dipped in a natural indigo vat to
dye unresisted areas, and a thorough boiling and washing removes the excess indigo
and degums the fabric.

27. Ari Embroidery
Ari is one of the most ornate and tedious
forms of Indian embroidery. A small crochet-
hook-like instrument called “ari” is used to
craft chain stitches, which give the pattern a
three-dimensional feel. The embroidery is
very intricate and is hand-stitched by artisans.
This detailed process takes at least several
days.

28. Bandhani
This process requires extensive skill and patience. It involves tightly hand-tying a
fabric at several points with a thread and then dyeing it. A meter-long cloth can
have millions of tiny knots, known as “bheendi” in the local language. Once dry
after dyeing, the dress is then pulled by artisans, and the thread is unraveled to
reveal a design. Soham Dave offers traditional patterns as well as its own unique
design, and only uses natural dyes.

29. Hand-block Printing
Our hand-printed design is all made by hand-block stamping. Skilled artisans use
wooden blocks uniquely carved with Soham Dave prints to transfer the patterns to
the fabric. The blocks are dipped in dye and pressed onto the fabric. Fabric is
processed and prepared for printing with an all-traditional washing and desizing
process.
