2. This song is wonderful for stomping and
clapping !. In a way it may lack the classiness of
much of Queen’s incredible work, but We Will
Rock You is so catchy and real you cannot help
but sing along.
Queen We Will Rock You is without question one
of the best songs of all time and in all probability
one of the most covered songs ever. But no one
can sing it like Freddie.
Many believe this is the best song Queen ever
made.
Why The Song Was Written
The song, and “We Are the Champions” were
written due to an event that happened on the
1977 British Tour. The band had played a show
at Stafford’s Bingley Hall and had done the
customary encore and gone off stage. The crowd
ceased clapping and sang ‘You’ll Never Walk
Alone’. Brian May said ‘we were just completely
knocked out and taken aback – it was quite an
emotional experience really, and I think these
chant things are in someway connected with
that’.

3. The song is merely 2 minutes long and was
written by Brian May and obviously sung by
Freddie Mercury. It was released on the B-side of
WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS on 7th October,
1977.
One version was used as the beginning track on
their 1977 album News of the World. This
variation consists of a stamp-stamp-clap-pause
beat. The stamping effects were produced by the
band overdubbing the sounds of themselves
stomping and clapping many times then
incorporating delay effects to construct a sound
like a lot of people were contributing. Whenever
performed live, this version is often followed by
“We Are the Champions”, another of the album’s
hits, as they were designed to run together.

4. The double A-side got to number 4 on the U.S.
Billboard singles chart, turning into their second
hit in the U.S. On the 45 of the song’s original
vinyl record release, the song was actually the
flip side of “We Are the Champions” in Britain,
though the American record company requested
to put the two songs together as a “double A-
side” because American radio stations were
playing them back to back. This is a reason why
the songs will be paired on the radio and at
sporting events, where they are regularly played.
Queen also conducted the song with a different
arrangement (referred to as the “fast version”).
This includes a faster tempo and a full guitar,
bass and drums backing track throughout. The
band often opened their live sets in the late
1970s and early 1980s with this version, as
captured on their 1979 Live Killers double album,
on Queen Rock Montreal (2007), and on the
Queen on Fire – Live at the Bowl album released
in 2004.
