Green Vision Inc., a New Jersey-based non-profit organization, has
created a program that simultaneously helps the environment, local
community, and individuals with autism. The Green Vision Program
teaches both adult and adolescent students with autism how to
dismantle and then recycle electronic devices. These participants
learn about problem solving and acquire job skills while reducing the
e-waste of their local communities. E-waste is an important issue
because technology is becoming such an integral part of Americans’
lives. In fact, in the United States we discard more than 400 million
e-waste units each year and recycle less than 12 percent of this. The
program’s students both take apart unwanted electronics and sort
the materials to be recycled by the federally-licensed facilities with
which Green Vision is partnered. To schedule a pick-up for your e-
waste, learn about New Jersey recycling laws, or stay up to date on
Green Vision’s latest work, visit www.gvinc.org.
