Gen Z’s sense of belonging is constructed from
a blend of online personas. As they navigate the
world, they have the freedom to tap into many
communities to expand their horizons and their
friendships. Fully 57% of teens have met a
new friend over the internet, and most of those
friendships never blossom in the real world:
77% say they’ve never met an online friend
in person (Pew).
But it’s all with a detached commitment, since
no one thing defines them. Whether it’s dipping
into the mermaid economy or creating breakfast
mash-ups, they’re sampling a range of interests.
Join a cosplay community, a peanut butter and
jelly eating competition, learn how to ski on
youtube, or save koalas from extinction. With
many personas, it’s all possible.
