SQL Server Data Mining Architecture
overview Analysis Services Architecture Introduction XMLA Overview XMLA APIs Data Mining Security Excel Add-Ins over HTTP Summary
Analysis Services Architecture Introduction Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) uses both server and client components to supply online analytical processing (OLAP) and data mining functionality for business intelligence applications: The server component of Analysis Services is implemented as a Microsoft Windows service. Clients communicate with Analysis Services using the public standard XML for Analysis (XMLA). Analysis Services provides a variety of clients, such as OLE DB, ADOMD.NET, and more. Query commands can be issued using the following languages: SQL; Multidimensional Expressions (MDX), or Data Mining Extensions (DMX).
XML for Analysis(XMLA) XML for Analysis (XMLA) is a Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP)-based XML protocol, designed specifically for universal data access to any standard multidimensional data source residing on the Web. Both Analysis Management Objects (AMO) and ADOMD.NET use the XMLA protocol when communicating with an instance of Analysis Services.
XMLA APIs The two APIs used in XMLA protocol are:
XMLA and Analysis Services Analysis Services extends XMLA to include the Data Definition Language (DDL) it uses to create server objects. This DDL is directly accessible and editable in both BI Dev Studio and SQL Server Management Studio. To access the DDL of an object in BI Dev Studio, right-click the object in the Solution Explorer and choose View Code. To access an object’s DDL from SQL Server Management Studio, right-click in Object Explorer and choose Script Database as  CREATE To as shown in the next figure.
XMLA and Analysis Services
Phases of mining structure processing Processing occurs in the following four stages: Train your mining models using data mining algorithms.
Data Mining Security Security in Analysis Services is role-based i.e., you create a role that defines a set of permissions you want to provide, and then you assign usersto that role. The process of securing Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services occurs at two different levels: ,[object Object]
The user level is composed of the permissions granted to the users that allow them to access the information stored in the Analysis Services database and, also, prevents users from accessing data beyond their privileges.,[object Object]
Excel Add-Ins over HTTP Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Data Mining Add-Ins for Excel can provide a full experience via session mining models. If Basic Authentication is not an option, then you will need to create an Analysis Services database and grant read permissions to the account used by IIS to execute requests. Enable the Analysis Services support for session mining models and connect to your HTTP endpoint using the Table Analysis Tools for Excel 2007 add-in. Then use Data Mining Client forExcel add-in by instructing them to always create session mining models.
