Gardens of collections accessible to all
at the Botanical Garden of Montreal
Espace pour la vie, which includes the Botanical Garden, Insectarium, Biodôme and
Planetarium de Montreal, is a must-see tourist destination in Quebec and greets over
2 million visitors a year. The mission is to reconnect human and nature: with
educational and fun activities, we offer uncommon visiting experiences, and this for
all audiences. Keroul’s sensitivity regarding universal accessibility was echoed at the
Botanical Garden of Montreal. A close partnership putting forward the inclusivity
approach of people with reduced mobility was born. The presentation will illustrate
concrete projects destined to these specific clienteles. At the Botanical Garden, the
Courtyard of the senses, inaugurated in 1999, makes sighted people aware of the
reality of blind people, and helps all discover the vegetal world in a new light. With an
adapted landscape, this garden is an excellent exploration laboratory for all
clienteles. In 2010, Sentier Keroul was created to facilitate the visit by people with
reduced mobility. Several challenges had to be surmounted to offer a diversified trail
that gives access to the main points of interests of the Garden : respect for the
design of the different gardens, harmonious signaling , harmonious integration to the
site. The result, a 2.9 km long trail welcomes a continuously growing number of
clienteles.
