What have you learned from your audience feedback?
First and foremost before going into any of my planning of my horror trailer I conducted a questionnairewith general questions to understand the public a bit more and their understanding of the horror genre. This allowed me to learn how much interest people take in the genre and to what extent. After gathering this feedback I went on to scripting my horror trailer, after scripting it was time to story board my horror trailer and film it. However before filming it I decided to conduct video interviews before actually filming my trailer to see what the public want from a horror trailer and most importantly what they find appealing in existing horror trailers.
This consisted of three relevant questions: What draws you to a horror trailer? What themes within a horror trailer do you like? What would you like to see in a horror trailer?
After conducting these interviews and establishing what the public want to see in a horror trailer, it allowed me to have a better understanding of an ‘Effective’ horror trailer which I included in SHE LOVES ME NOT. I then went on to gathering audience feedback from various amounts of people and places such as, Social networks like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. For example Youtube allowed me to post my trailer were people would be able to assess my works and give me feedback as to what went well and what could have been improved. Asking people what they thought of my final product and how I could have improved it? Despite me not being able to change any of my production work it still allowed me to acknowledge my strengths and weaknesses as a whole.
After gathering all my audience feedback I have personally learnt that ‘audience feedback’ is very vital in terms of producing something for the public, as first and foremost one needs to understand their audience before producing their product in order for the product to become appealing to their target audience. I have learnt this through the process of my audience feedback tasks, as I initially felt that I understood my target audience and what they would want/like to see in a horror trailer. As my target audience was based around my age of 15 – 21, I felt I could relate to them. However after audience feedback I was wrong to an extent, as I realised there are many individuals out there that have very different opinions, views and knowledge of horror trailers. Therefore I took all the feedback on board and try to input it in my horror trailer, magazine cover and film cover. I also learn that with a horror trailer it’s hard to keep such as niche audience, as a horror trailer can become very diverse by combing different genres in it.
