Reproductive System By: Sophia Tarafa Presentation 10
The three stages of labor and delivery are the dilation stage, the expulsion stage, and the placental stage. Question: 3
The first stage which is the dilation stage is when the muscles of the uterine contract to push out the fetus. The cervix becomes thin and begins to expand because the fetus is pressed up against it. We have to wait until the cervix reaches 10 centimeters dilated for it to be considered the second stage. First stage
The second stage of labor is called the expulsion stage. This is when the baby is delivered. The head will appear at the opening and then the rest of the body will be pushed out. The term used when the baby’s head appears is crowning. Second Stage
The third and final stage Is the placental stage. After the baby is delivered the muscles of the uterus continues to contract in order for the placental to be pushed out as well. Sometimes nurses have to massage the patients abdomen to help release the placental. Third stage
