Artificial intelligence (AI) was coined in 1956 at the Dartmouth Project to describe machines that exhibit behaviors associated with human intelligence, such as learning. AI includes both weak/narrow AI with limited functions and strong AI that displays general human-level intelligence. Machine learning is a subset of AI that allows systems to learn from data without being explicitly programmed, and provides examples of AI applications. The key difference between AI and machine learning is that AI is the overarching concept of machine intelligence while machine learning is a specific method for achieving aspects of AI.
