Essay on Sensitive Periods in Developement
Sensitive Periods in Developement The child does not grow uniformly and homogeneously like a
crystal or a carrot, but by stages or phases, which succeed one another and which, differ from one
another. For proper growth and development it is necessary that the potentialities for developing
human relationships with which the infant is born be exposed to the organizing influences of another
human being. Accumulating evidence indicates that there exist critical developmental periods during
which the organism is ready for differential development, within which periods it must receive the
proper stimulations if it is to develop adequately. These critical developmental periods may be
broadly outlined as follows: 1) The period during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2) Maternal deprivation for a period varying for days within the first and second years, and weeks or
months during the third and fourth years. 3) Changes from one mother–figure to another during the
first four or five years. With respect to the reality of the critical developmental periods, it is, of
course, well known that such critical developmental periods exist in the development of the body,
with the principle well established that the earlier the interference with their development the more
widespread will the disturbance in growth be. Tissues must reach a certain stage of differentiation
before they can respond; later such tissues achieve a certain relative fixity, so that they can yield.
Prenatal environmental influences For many years , in fact, it was believed that the baby in the
uterus was completely insulated form all outside influences, but now we know that is not entirely
true. Environmental influences ranging from radioactivity and stress in the outside world to drugs,
chemicals, hormones, and viruses in the mother's bloodstream can affect prenatal development.
Even though the placenta acts as a filter, keeping the blood of the mother and the fetus from mixing,
a number of potentially dangerous substances can pass through it. And, of course, if the

Japan During The Meiji Period
From the early to mid 1800s, the United States expanded rapidly. With this expansion, the United
States sought out new areas for trade commerce. With Britain and other countries heavily involved
in China, the U.S. searched for another of trade within the region. President Millard Fillmore
dispatched Commodore Matthew C. Perry with a letter demanding Japan to open their ports for
commerce. Upon the first arrival, Americans were great with a completely new experience for
people. Some people considered found the Japanese's culture to be repulsive while others were very
fascinated. This paper discusses the experiences of two Americans who visited Japan during the
Meiji Period compared to initial experiences. There were numerous reasons why the United States
had an interest in forming diplomatic relations with Japan. The opening of China's ports for
commerce along with the new acquisition of a California made the United States want to expand its
influence in the world. One of the most abundant resources needed was coal. With steam ships
replacing sailing ships, the United States had to establish a coaling station for refuel. With the heavy
influence of the British over in China, Japan made for the perfect geographic location. America was
involved in whaling for their oil.
Prior to Commodore's Expedition to Japan, there were preconceptions of the type of people they
were. American sailors left stranded on the island of Japan were typically imprisoned. This

Sensitive Periods
Sensitive Periods Define the term sensitive periods Sensitive periods are a period in a child's life
where they are obsessed with certain aspects of learning without any particular reason. This period
is an optimum time for development and children can really develop specific abilities and skills.
When children are in their sensitive periods and working with any activity, they will not show any
signs of fatigue and will repeat the activity a number of times. These periods last for a certain
amount of time; however the child may eventually lose interest and may move on to another
activity. Development changes will not occur unless there is some kind of maturational process. It is
essential to support the child's sensitive period ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
E.g. A child may indentify similar qualities using colour box 2. Explain why it is important to
support and facilitate these periods It is important to support and facilitate this period because a
child may need support to carry out a task independently so they can fulfil their sensitive period.
E.g. If a child is carrying out a task they might need material to support them. Montessori quoted,
"Such assistance will not consist in forming the child since this task belong to nature himself, but in
a delicate respect for the outward manifestations of this development and in providing those means
necessary for his formation which he cannot be obtain by his efforts alone." (Montessori, 1966,
p.46). Also by preparing for the environment you are supporting the child's sensitive period. E.g. For
sensitive period of order, the teacher would make sure the objects are kept in the same place and
area. Overall, these periods of sensitivity play a vital role on the development of a child and without
the support from teachers the child may exhibit deviations in his personalities. Outline any adverse
consequences of not recognising If a child is deprived of supporting his development he may exhibit
deviations in his personality because his psychic life is disturbed and may show signs of attachment,
possessiveness, desire of power, fear, complex and lies. Through Montessori's observations she

The Renaissance Period
The argument being put forward in this dissertation is that the Renaissance in Europe, with specific
emphasis on Italy, during the 15th Century, was the most influential period in developing the 'early
modern' human society. Many believe that this was due to its almost perfect location between
Western Europe and the Eastern shore of the Mediterranean. By analysing various factors and
sources, as well as different aspects of society, for example political factors and the views of
contemporary texts, it will provide enlightening insight into the changes made during the
Renaissance period and how these changes are still reverberating. I believe that this question is an
important one to study and to answer correctly and accurately because it means that we can trance
back the origins of our society today and how it has evolved from, arguably, a more primitive one in
terms of breakthroughs and technology.
First of all, it is important to understand what the Renaissance period was all about and what it
encumbered. The Renaissance period (French: 'Rebirth') is a progressive cultural movement that
lasted for roughly 3 centuries, from the 14th to the 17th (roughly 1330– 1600), and is often referred
to as 'the bridge between the Middle Ages and a Modern Era' (*1). The 'Rebirth' of a society,
specifically Italy, was recognition of the past but also that it was separate from the present in terms
of belief or ideology for example. This meant that a transitional phase occurred as past

Tokugawa Period Essay
The Tokugawa period also called the Edo Period is derived from the name of the ruling family in the
period the Tokugawa family. Under this regime Japan saw a long period of peace and order that
went on for almost two hundred and fifty years. This was a very incredible achievement taking into
account this was an era that was full of upsetting ordeals. The Sengoku Jidai or what is known as the
age of a nation at war was the Belligerent states era of Japan where there were many rival daimyos
that had their armies who fought one another to enable them have a massive jurisdiction of control
over the whole of Japan that was split into two hundred and sixty countries at the time. The

During the tenure of Tokugawa leyasu, the government changed from a devolved feudal government
to a military government that was in the form of bakufu. In this form of government there was the
maintenance of a controlled environment among the daimyos since their rivalry was a major factor
to the chaos that took place in the recently concluded Warring States Period. The main polices that
were used in the Tokugawa system of governance were influencing the daimoyo, taking control over
the imperial court, managing the foreign relationships, and sacralizing the legacy of Tokugawa.
From the Tokugawa Japan, it stated that the social and economic Backgrounds of the current Japan,
Tokugawa leyasu put more exertion so that he could control the daimyos and reduce them in their
numbers. There was a law adapted by this regime called the buke sho–hatto that were laws
concerning the military houses that regulated the daimyos immensely starting from how they gad to

The Heian Period Essay
The Heian Period from about 794–1185 A.D. was an impressive era in Japanese history. Considered
Japan's Classical Age, it was a period of wealth and sophistication. Peace and prosperity, high
culture, powerful clans, new ideas and relative independence of foreign influence marked this time.
The move to the capital of Heian–kyō (modern day Kyoto) was motivated in large part on a desire
by Emperor Kammu to reduce the substantial influence exercised by the monasteries in Heijō–kyō
(modern day Nara). Nara was patterned after the capital city of Tang, China, and its religion was
based on their brand of Buddhism. Earlier Imperial sponsorship of Buddhism had politicized the
clergy, resulting in power and corruption within their leadership. ... Show more content on

Great care was taken in color coordination of kimonos. In addition, lavish makeup was also prized,
and women of high caste were never seen in public without it. Even among men, good taste in dress
and manner were valued more highly than skill in battle.
The Heian Period marked a newfound independence in Japanese thought and brought with it a sense
of national pride that caused its people to begin a separation from the dominant Chinese influence.
Although trade continued on unofficial levels, Japanese rulers severed official ties with China.
Big changes were taking place in Japanese writing, as well. Although Chinese remained the official
written language of the court, Kana, a simplified method of writing, was developed. Each symbol
was a simplified version of Chinese characters and represented spoken syllables used in Japanese.
The ease of learning led to broader literacy and many poems and stories being written. Many
women possessed the ability to read and write and were able to express their ideas, one of the best
examples being The Tale of Genji, by Murasaki Shikibu. Believed to be the world's first novel, it
offers a detailed look at Heian court life, rituals, and culture. Educated women such as these were
often able to progress in Heian society, with considerable rights and privileges. As such, they filled
roles at all levels and were often major players in politics and power struggles.
This period also saw the beginnings of the samurai.

Edo Period Research Paper
There was once a time in Japan called the Edo period – this was a period where Japan was ruled
under the Tokugawa Shogunates, a feudal military government. Japan had a stable population, and a
popular enjoyment of art and culture. However, they had an uncompromising policy prohibiting any
foreign contact, ultimately making it completely isolated from the western world. There was also a
strict social order, where everyone knew their status. Emperors and high nobilities had invulnerable
prestige, but were weak in power. The shogun and daimyō, on the other hand, were very powerful
due to their relation to the Tokugawa. This period began in 1603 and ended in 1868, when
Tokugawa Yoshinobu resigned – this was the beginning of the Meiji Restoration, the name meaning
the restoration of power to emperors. Meiji Tennō (personal name Mutsuhito) was born on
November 3, 1852, in Kyoto, Japan. His father was Emperor Kōmei, the 121st emperor, therefore
making Meiji the heir to the throne. Meiji grew up during the Edo period and, along with the group
that overthrew the Tokugawa's, wanted to create a modernised nation with a strong economic
system, as Japan was too isolated and did not participate in international power politics. At the time
he began to reign (1862), which was when he was only fifteen years old, the Edo period ... Show

The Tokugawa Period In Japan
The Tokugawa period in Japan started in 1603 and ended in 1867 this was the final period of
medieval japan. Tokugawa Shogunate lasted for more than 250 years and Medieval Japan changed
dramatically from feudalism to a modernised society due to the Meiji restoration which also turned
japan into a world of power. The three main focuses which will be discussed in this Essay are
political, social and military which changed in the Meiji restoration. Education, social class, and
women's roles changed drastically when Japan began to modernize. Due to the government which
played a huge role in the social change of the Meiji restoration by creating many new laws. The
biggest change during the Meiji restoration was the schooling of the Japanese children as back in
feudal Japan it was only the high class and nobles that got to go school and now after the Meiji
restoration it is everyone. (Asia for educators, 2009) (Brian Platt, 2014) Back in feudal japan people

The Period Of Ancient Greece
The Hellenistic Age was a period of ancient Greece lasting between 323 B.C after the death of
Alexander the Great and 30 B.C the beginning of the Roman Empire. Alexander was determined to
conquer unknown lands and his expedition provided a bridge between city–states and the Greek
Hellenistic World. The Hellenistic World is what resulted from the disintegrated empire that came
short after Alexanders death. Four major Hellenistic kingdoms emerged from the successors of
Alexander. The Greeks and easterners made notable accomplishments during this period of
experiments, novelties and individualism which influenced the Roman culture. The Hellenistic
kingdoms shared much in common with their Greek past. Although they had a democratic form of
government it forced Greeks of the Hellenistic Age to accept monarchy, which they hated. For large
cities such as Seleucid, monarchism suited well. This establishment by Seleucus covered much of
Asia. The city of Pregamum later emerged by freeing itself from Seleucid and was under the Attalid
dynasty. Antigonus established the Antigonid dynasty as ruler of Macedonia, and Ptolemy
established himself as king of Egypt, founding the Ptolemaic dynasty of pharaohs. Not long after the
four major kingdoms were established challenges appeared from internal conflicts and external
enemies. Although they inherited the most lethal military system in the world from Alexander and
Philip, these wars required murderous weapons and machinery. Massive siege

Meiji Period:
The fall of the Tokugawa and the ushering in of a new era of modernization and prosperity for Japan
The 1800s were a time of great exploration and revelation for much of the Western world. Ideas and
inventions flowed easily throughout the major powers of the world with the help of new powerful
ships. It was also a great time for exploration and new trade opportunities for expanding countries
such as the United States of America, the Asian trading routes were rich with possibility. One of the
most desired countries was that of Japan. For nearly 250 years, the Tokugawa period of Japan was
one of isolation and extreme distrust of foreigners and foreign ideas. Due to this, ... Show more

Previously, Japan was split into my different sections each controlled by daimyo. This system
caused a lot of infighting between powers and made unification very difficult. The young Meiji
government realized this problem also and set out to fix it. One of the key issues of the Tokugawa
and the periods before it was Japan was very difficult to unify military and politically. Each clan
often fought for dominance and each manned their own military's with appointed daimyo. This
system of feudal domains made it nearly impossible for a proper political system. Meiji and his
advisors, with the goal of unification and centralization, quickly addressed this issue and "by July
1869 the feudal lords had been requested to give up their domains, and in 1871 these domains were
abolished and transformed into prefectures of a unified central state." (3) This accomplishment of a
unified central state led to many positive things that helped Japan modernize. Foremost, the creation
of a unified army that was once not previously possible. After the fall of the domains in 1871, the
Meiji government enacted "a national army based on universal conscription was created in 1872."
(3) This was an enormous change as it not only made a national army but also made commoner and
samurai serve besides each other equally. The abolishment of the feudal domain system also allowed

The Between Classical And Classical Period And Hellenistic...
As the Hellenistic society shifted away from the Classical ideals of perfectionism and idolization of
the elites and gods in sculpture, artists began to be fixated on illustrating imperfection of a variety of
individuals faced with ruthless authenticity of their emotional struggles. Whereas, Classical
architecture focused on dedicating massive structures to the gods to emphasize their divinity, but
Hellenistic architecture used advanced technology to exemplify Alexander the Great's magnificence.
Thus, differences in architecture can be seen in the sophisticated town of Alexandria with structures
such as the lighthouse that show how Alexander the Great influenced town planning that was
centralized on the creation of a superior city, likewise, The Altar at Pergamon expresses the loss of
focus on the divine through unique sculptural techniques. Change can also be seen in the sculptures
of The Boxer and The Old Market Woman as they are depicted to be imperfectly individualistic and
in emotional distress.
Between the Classical period and Hellenistic period, sculptural style change occurred leading to
distinguishing features that showcase cultural values of the society. Carrie Tovar, Curator of Art in
the College of Public Service and Community Solutions at Arizona State University, discusses in her
article, Battered, But Unbeaten: A New Getty Acquisition, how artisans of the Hellenistic period

The Tokugawa Period: The Rise Of Fascism In Japan
The Tokugawa period signified the beginning of an eventual shift from Fascism in Japan. This was
possible through the growing supremacy of the ruling class that brought about this change. The
country went through many serious transitions during this period. Peace was enforced by a Shogun
that demanded absolute loyalty from his daimyos. The country was isolated from all foreign traders.
The Shogun saw how the rise of a lower–class revolution could cause the destruction of the upper
classes. So, to prevent a revolution in the lower classes, the Shogun began a revolution in the upper
classes. The policies enforced during the Tokugawa Period were put in place to grow the power of
the aristocracy, but eventually, it would help with the formation of a fascist government in Japan
during the early twentieth century.
The country during the Tokugawa period was closed to outsiders as a way of preventing daimyos
from gaining power, as well as preventing the rise of an independent bourgeoisie. The prevention of
the formation of a merchant class was the primary focus of the Tokugawa Shogunate, but as the
nation continued to grow its domestic economy, the formation of a bourgeoisie was impossible to
stop. Instead of forming a bureaucracy that put the economy under state run organizations, the ruling

Woodland Periods in North America
North America was a land of quite diversities from the east to the south. One of the early periods
was the Eastern Woodland period (800–200 BCE) which led to the mound emergence and when the
Middle Woodland period (c. 200 BCE– AD 400) started, the mounds became more significant for
ritual and spiritual meaning widespread (Scarre 681: 2013). Adena and the Middle Woodland
societies traded throughout the land such as the southern Appalachians and the Great Lakes. They
would trade artifacts like marine shells, whelks, and pipestones (ibid 682). Most of the Middle
Woodland artifacts were actually found in Ohio though it was evident that people would travel long–
distances to different destinations. During the Late Woodland period (AD 400–1000), mounds were
coming to an end in some areas as well as long–distance trades. Population didn't cease to grow and
stretched through the Midwest and Southwest. The villages that separated into owning more land
where it was farther from river access started to cultivate native plants but they only lasted a few
years (ibid 684). When the trading system of non–local materials started to die, weapons began to
emerge such as arrowheads, bows and arrows for hunting. Tension between villages rose which then
led to fighting and death which then also led to the formation of militarized groups by the end of the
first millennium (ibid 686). Chiefdoms also became a part of life around AD 1000 mainly due to
people seeking help from strong leaders in

The Tokugawa Period
The Tokugawa era: A country of tranquility With all the struggle the Japanese went though, they
finally were grasping a sense of themselves. This age of curiosity and exploration of a country, that
the world would later know as Japan, was called the Tokugawa period. As a result of their newfound
self, came art and more specifically, woodblock prints. These woodblock prints are significant to the
Tokugawa era because they reflected what was going on during that period, including: what was
currently happening, how the people viewed the world, and what new discoveries were made.

There is also travel, if not, more than the woodblock Okitsu shows. The boats show that great
masses of people travel on those boats and are fishing. These clues tell a story of a country that is

comfortable. Furthermore, Tsukudajima displays a time of peace because of the economic growth
and beauty nature held over the people. These boats suggest that there are goods being imported and
exported and Japan is earning money, therefore an economy is growing. Moreover, the beauty of
Tsukudajima's starry night, almond eye moon, and colorful sky sitting on the horizon indicates that
nature holds a power over the artists. Since the moon looks like the shape of an almond eye, the
artist probably sees the moon as a guardian, which suggests that the people praised nature. Likewise,
the starry night adds a feeling of comfort and happiness. A tiny village is resting upon the water and
there are no flames or fighting. Finally, the colorful gradient end of a sunset contains warm colors

The Period Of The Absorbent Mind Essay
Human beings are nature's most incredible creation, and early childhood is the crucial period, where
the foundation for his/her future is going to be established. The period of the Absorbent Mind (Birth
to Six years) along with the Sensitive periods, plays a significant part in the development of
movement, language and social skills of the child.
During the first three years of life, the child's mind is unconscious and purely absorbent. He/She has
the ability to imbibe whatever happens in the environment, and later use it towards the overall
development (physical as well as psychic). The Study of the Sensitive periods (a distinct sensibility
of the child towards acquiring a particular characteristic), helps in understanding the psychic growth
of the child. A child is born in this world; this implies he/she has entered a new environment, ready
to absorb every minute activity that happens around them.
"Whatever is formed at that time in the child's mneme has the power to become eternal" – (The
Absorbent Mind, Dr. Maria Montessori, Page No.120)
Horme – The Unconscious inner drive of the child, awakens the child's enthusiasm towards his/her
environment in the first three years of birth. The Silent observer acquires every movement from the
environment and stores it in the Mneme – the unconscious memory. Whatever is saved in the
Mneme, later becomes a part of the child's personality. As adults, we are aware of the physical
developments that happen in a child. At the same time, the

In South Africa, adolescence is a sensitive period, and...
In South Africa, adolescence is a sensitive period, and not a critical period, for identity development
as it is "a period during which normal development is most sensitive to abnormal environmental
conditions" (Bruer, 2001). When looking at South Africa particularly, the abnormal environmental
conditions would be apartheid, and one will see its profound effects on identity development.
Adolescence is a sensitive period rather than a critical period as a critical period focuses on a system
that "requires a specific kind of experience if normal development is to occur" (Bruer, 2001).
Therefore this essay will place an emphasis on adolescence as a sensitive period for identity
development.
One first needs to explore the term, sensitive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Outside that specific time frame, the experience does not have the same effect (Armstrong et al.,
2006). For the reason that this essay is focusing on identity development in South Africa, it would
be more accurate in stating that adolescence is a sensitive period for identity development. Events
that affect individuals during a sensitive period have more chance overcoming the effects than if it
were a critical period. Thus, sensitive periods are subjects of theoretical interest and empirical
examination which will therefore contribute to the idea that adolescence is a sensitive period for
identity development in South Africa.
Identity development of South African adolescents in a democratic society is a crucial topic to
explore as one will find out how important adolescence is in determining one's identity. Given South
Africa's past, it is only correct in saying that apartheid had an enormous effect on people's lives and
in particular on adolescents. Once we examine the effects it had on adolescents, one will realise that
adolescence is considered to be a sensitive period for identity development. Political and Social
events such as the end of apartheid are likely to have a negative effect on an individual's
psychosocial development (Norris et al., 2008). Thom & Coetzee (2004) stated that identity
formation depends mostly on how an individual recognises society and their expectations of it. It
also relies on specific stages in one's

Sensitive Periods in Early Development Essay examples
Sensitive Periods in Early Development From the moment of conception to the moment we are born
and grow into adulthood, the timing of even the first beginning of our life journey is crucial. Even
the timing of fertilization can be too soon or too late in which will cause the organism to be
destroyed. (The Development of Children, 2nd ed). The mother carrying a baby has a responsibility
to ensure enough nutrition is supplied for the rapid growth of the organism. However it is also
crucial that the fetus also plays a part to survive, by being active and moving to develop.

The unwanted children born weighed less at birth and needed more medical care even though the
mothers were judged to be in good health. Fewer of the children were breast fed, they had more
difficulties in school, and they were referred for psychiatric help more often as teenagers. Also that
by the time they had reached adulthood, many were more likely to have antisocial behavior
problems. So here we can see from this research that stress also plays a vital role of a healthy
developing baby. Some fact (Yarrow, 1961, as cited in Early Experience, 1967) states that also the
first few years of life have crucial effects upon later development and adult characteristics and that
the significance of early infantile experience for later life development has been repeated so
frequently and so seriously that the general effectiveness of this declaration is now almost
unchallenged. Bowlby, 1951, (as cited in Early Experience, 1967) quotes that "the prolonged
deprivation of the young child of maternal care may have grave and far–reaching effects in his
character and so on the whole of his future life." In comparison to this J.B. Watson (1928) also felt
passionately about the first two years of a Childs life. He believed they were the most important and

able to exist independently, develops an identity/personality and becomes sensitive to people around
him/her. The social aspects of life such as culture, friendships etc are highlighted. The child begins
to understand that he/she belongs to a unit be it family or friends at school. After being bombarded
with his/her environment the child is enthusiastic and driven by impulses during this adjustment.
According to Montessori, adjustment doesn't occur unaided, there seems to be a perfect time frame
for optimal adjustment to occur. She says "A child learns to adjust himself and make acquisitions in
his sensitive periods" (Montessori, 2007b, Ch7, p40). A sensitive period relates to the child's mental
growth. This period lasts for a short time which is long enough for the child to gain a particular
trait/skill. It seems that the child is predisposed for acquiring

The Samurai's Life During The Tokugawa Period
The Samurai were the medieval warriors of Japan and were usually called bushi or buke (Matt
Williams, Unknown) but only 10% or less of Japan's population was able to become a Bushi.
Although this may sound quite desirable, it managed to improve for Buke when the Tokugawa
period came. Their lifestyle changed for the better and they didn't have to worry about death, while
still retaining the same position on the hierarchy pyramid. Because of this being a samurai knight in
the Tokugawa Period was desirable.
The Samurai's lifestyle changed a lot when the Tokugawa Period came, as this was when civil peace
occurred throughout Feudal Japan. (Columbia University, 2009) This meant that there was no longer
a need for the samurai to fight. With their fighting role diminished the samurai took on the roles of
scholars and advisors. (Red Apple Education, 2013) This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

One of the changes for the Bushi was that they were fortunate enough that they didn't have to worry
about death through fighting and wars anymore, however they still had to uphold the same respect
that they had for the daimyo. In some cases the samurai even managed to move up in hierarchy
pyramid by becoming courtiers. Courtiers are the people who go with the emperor to court they also
move up to become bureaucrats and administrators. (Oxford University Press, 2014) They still
retained respect within the public of an honourable position in the feudal system. The samurai still
had the right to use a range of weapons such as bows and arrows and spears but their main weapon
and symbol was still the sword. (See Appendix 1) (Japan Guide, 2014) They also still had the rights
to kill anyone to disrespect them as long as they were of a lower social status. This killing could still

Culture Changes During The Edo Period
Culture Changes during the Edo Period
The Edo Period in Japan (1600–1868) was ruled by Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu who was appointed
by the Emperor. During this time, many changes happened to promote stability among the people
and Japan. Early The Shogun adoptive a system which was later called Neo–Confucianism based on
Confucianism (From China). This system stressed the importance of morals, education and
hierarchical order in the government and society (Japan Guide.com).The Shogun needed to create
peace and by using segregation, there were four types of divisions during the Edo period. First at the
top was the Shogun and Samurai, they created structure and peace among the domains. Second in
line was the peasants because without them the most important need would not be filled which was
food. Artisans were third in line being they added some value for the reason that they produced
goods like swords for the Samurai, artwork, music, and painting/printing. Last on the list of
importance was the merchants. Merchants made money off people and therefor held no value to the
Shogun. Due to a closed door policy that was enforced by the Shogun hardly anything came into
Japan without permission during the Edo period. The Shogun also limited trade with other Western
Nations and prevented Japan from trading. For over 200 years Japan has little to do with trade
outside with the exception of a Dutch post in Nagasaki and maintaining relations with China and a

Japanese art in the Edo period and the effects on western art
In this essay I will talk about Japanese art mainly in the Edo period and it's development and what
influenced it and how these art pieces affected the western art.
Before we start talking about the edo period let's look at the period before it, the Azuchi–
Momoyama Period. Azuchi–Momoyama period started Oda Nobunaga captures the capture Kyoto
and kicks out the previous rules the Ashikaga shogunate in 1573. Using his power and new

Ukiyo–e (woodblock painting) became popular in the late 17th century because the increase in
demand do to the chonin class and with the technology to paint they were able to mass produce art
pieces. One of the most famous one of these that many people have probably seen before is "The
Great Wave off Kanagawa" by Katsushika Hokusai. This piece is the first of Hokusai's series

The Classical Period Of The Baroque Era
The Classical time period, which spanned a length of seventy years, from 1750 to 1820, was very
different in nature from its predecessor, the Baroque time period. The Baroque era featured works
that were ornamentally elaborate, where the artists and composers centered their works on a big,
bold style that was dramatic in its composition. Artists and composers transferred strong feelings of
tension and emotion into their works and it was common for there to be some type of action or
movement happening within the work. Those who lived in the Classical time period, valued
simplicity and wanted to return to the ideals of the Greeks. Therefore, the Classical time period is
characterized by clear structural clarity, simplicity, smoothness, and symmetry. However, though the
works took a step back from the grand movement of the Baroque era, the composers and artists of
the Classical time period did lay out a tuneful and elegant style in their music and art. Out of the
Classical era came many renowned artists and composers, two of those whom are artist Sir Thomas
Lawrence and composer Ludwig van Beethoven ("NYU").
In the year of 1769, Thomas Lawrence was born to his parents in Bristol, England. Though he was
born in Bristol, Lawrence grew up in Devizes and later on, in Bath and Oxford, where his self–
education as an artist was furthered. In Devizes, Lawrence spent his childhood at his father's inn,
where he began his career as an artist. In these early years of his life, he taught

Sensitive Periods During The Caterpillar Of The Prosthesis...
SENSITIVE PERIODS
Introduction:
'Sensitive periods' is a term developed by the Dutch geneticist Hugo de Vries and later used by the
Italian educator Maria Montessori.
Montessori cites DeVries' example of a Sensitive Period in the caterpillar of the Prosthesis butterfly.
The caterpillar must feed on very tender leaves, and yet the butterfly lays its eggs in the most hidden
fork of the branch, near the trunk of the tree. Who will show the little caterpillars hidden there, the
moment they leave the egg, that the tender leaves they need are to be found at the extreme tip of the
branch, in the light? Now the caterpillar is strongly sensible to light; light attracts it, summons it as
by an irresistible voice, fascinates it, and the caterpillar goes wriggling towards where the light is
brightest, till it reaches the tip of the branch, and thus finds itself, famished for food, among the
budding leaves that can give it nourishment. It is a strange fact that when the caterpillar has passed
through its first stage and is full grown, it can eat other food, and then loses its sensibility to light.
This has been proved in scientific laboratories where there are neither trees nor leaves but only the
caterpillar and the light.
According to Montessori sensitive periods, refers to several overlapping periods of development
where a child is sensitive to a particular stimuli or type of interaction. A child passes through special
times in his life when he easily incorporates a particular

Classical Japan: The The Heian Period
Sit up straight! Good posture Reader–sama! What are you wearing?! Defiantly not your traditional
kimono! Wait...What? We aren't in the Golden Age of Japan? Then why am I lecturing you on being
a proper Heian Noble? Oh well, if you cant be a Heian, then why not learn about them? But, Heian
Period? What's a Heian Period? I'm glad that question ran through you head. Its considered to be the
great golden age of Japan. It was a time of great beauty and physical labor. Many things were
accomplished from the beginning to the end. And those accomplishments turn to great legacies.
Because of these special attributes of the Heian Period, it became the golden age.
The Heian Period, also known as 平安時代 in kanji, is a time period in Classical Japan. To be
precise, the Heian Period was the last period in it. Starting from the year 794 all the way to 1185.
During this time, beauty was a major project to the Heian's. "Every aspect of life was modeled
around finding beauty, including handwriting, dress, appearance, gardens and homes." But one of
the most important was self beauty, as in making yourself look beautiful. Or atleast looking pretty
during that time period, because today we might considered their ways of getting ready for everyday
quite unusual and unnecessary. For example, when someone thinks of a Feudal era Japanese women,
they might think of them with white faces and ruby red lips. This is indeed correct, many, if not all
Heian women covered their face in rice powder. And

Sensitive Period to Order
INTRODUCTION
In this assignment I am going to discuss the child's sensitive period for order. I will explain how it is
catered for in the classroom, referring to materials and activities.
Sensitive Periods
The Sensitive Periods are the best times for a child to learn a specific skill and are critical to the
child's self development. The child has this inner urge to undertake the task in order to live.
Although, once this period passes it is possible for the child to learn the new skill but with much
more difficulty. A sensitive period that is prevented from occurring will manifest itself into a cranky
child.
The three main sensitive periods for children aged birth to six are, order, movement and language.

But freedom within limits, not the right to do whatever you want, whenever you want. Freedom
needs to work within the grounds of discipline. Discipline is making correct choices while
respecting the classroom, and the rights of the other children.
In my experience, Marie is consistent at all times while teaching but kind and caring at the same
time. She set clear expectations very early on in the school year and this is evident through the
respect the children show her and the order that upholds in the classroom.
The expectations included; * Children are given the freedom to move, to communicate, to choose
activity and to work with others. * Children must not disrespect the materials. The materials must
only be used for the purpose intended. * Children can only choose what he/she has been presented. *
If the child cannot use a specific piece of material, it is removed and re–presented or, a period of
time is given to allow the child's development.
REFER TO MATERIALS AND ACTIVITIES IN THE CLASSROOM
Referring to materials and activities in the Montessori classroom, it is fair to say that the Practical
Life and Sensorial shelves all stimulate the child's sense of order. The Practical Life shelf consists of
the dressing frames, which allows the child to understand the importance of sequence in tasks. The
pouring exercises which teaches the child hand eye coordination and their entire body concentrates

During the Classical period, it was common for music to be louder, faster and not written for the
church like it had been written in the Baroque or Renaissance period. Instead of the music being
performed in churches, it was performed in concert halls or in the palace. Some of the most
recognizable artists during that time were Mozart, Beethoven, and Hayden. A lesser known artist,
Muzio Clementi, an Italian–born pianist, who was alive during 1752 to 1832 and lived most of this
life in England during the Classical period. Even though, his music was not as successful as some of
the other artists of this time such as Mozart, he was considered the "the father of the piano." This

We can relate some of Beethoven's symphonies that we learned about in class like symphony
number five to Muzio's symphonies because they both consisted of four movements and were both
written in an allegro form. The instruments that were used in the two symphonies are similar; they
both use string instruments like violins and cellos and percussion instruments. Usually, symphonies
consist of string, brass, percussion, and woodwind instruments, but do not have to use every
instrument that is in those categorizes they just use a few or none at all for each. They also do not
just use one violin or one flute there is usually a couple of each instrument so that there can be
variety of sounds. For instance, if the piece calls for a certain instrument to be played multiple ways
then they would use more than one of those instruments, so that all the pressure would not be placed
on one performer. For the Great National, Clementi used a variety of instruments that would be
typically used such as violins, the piano, and trombones. We also learned about absolute music
which is music that does not have a written story to it like most modern songs do today that have
lyrics to it, but in absolute music its more about the instruments and the music itself. Clementi's
symphony is considered to be absolute music because there are no words and does not make up a
story, the music itself coveys a power story. It was their intent that the music would be able to be
strong by itself to create a sort of story that did not need words to convey a powerful message. That
is similar to anyone's symphonies like Hayden's or Mozart's that we studied in

Day after day, late students are punished or end up in detention due to short passing periods. Having
short passing periods can make a student's grade go down or worse when students are late to class.
This can be prevented by extending passing periods to 10 minutes. Although the staff at H.P.M.S
may disapprove, but in the long run, they will see the effects of having longer passing periods has on
students. Because of the short time of passing periods, students at Happy Place Middle School are
petitioning to extend their passing period time to 10 minutes. In short, some of the positive effects
are that students can get to class on time, and gives students and teachers time to prepare.

And also, the traffic in the halls often crawls at the SPEED OF MOLASSES. Simply to say, it can
make you very late for class. "Students also go to their class missing their books because they don't
have time to go to the locker to get their materials. This makes it worse for students because they are
unable to do work" (Abdelmalek).
Furthermore into the topic, the 10 minute passing period lets and/or helps teachers prepare for their
next period. A longer passing period would prevent students from asking to go use the bathroom, get
a drink, or be late, so teacher(s) have the student's full concentration, "If your student doesn't have to
interrupt you to use the restroom or get some water, it is going to be a better learning environment
for the rest of the students. Without these interruptions you may continue your lesson and have
student's full concentration, instead of worrying about their personal needs" (Medina). And also in
addition to that, teachers will have more time to prepare for their next class compared to 5 minutes,
so teachers can get coffee or take a break during the passing period. Therefore, passing periods
should be extended to 10 minutes since there are upsides and very few downsides, the upsides: Have

How Did The Edo Period Impact The Tokugawa Period
How did the Tokugawa Period impact the people of Japan?
The Tokugawa period or otherwise known as the Edo period has been recognised as an extremely
significant aspect of Japanese history and left history changing effects on the country. In this essay,
five primary aspects of the Edo period, which has helped produce present day Japan and had greatly
impacted on the nation during this period will be addressed:
Politics, Social structure,The Samurai, Relations with the West and Culture.
Politics:
Tokugawa rulers during the 17th century greatly improved a multitude of separate political aspects
and as a result, positively impacted the nation and citizens. A primary example of this is Tokugawa's
establishment of the capital at Edo which in present day Japan is called the iconic Tokyo.
Additionally, he established a strong central government, along with his shoguns imposing an era of
unity, stability, and peace in Japan. The shoguns closely monitored and controlled the local daimyo
possessed a relative amount of power but remained to be tested for their loyalty and kept under
control by the shoguns who restricted their family and eventually became hostages. The daimyo was
required to maintain two residences in an attempt to prevent rebellion because of this wasting factor
which prohibited them as they had minuscule amounts of time to construct a powerful army due to
constantly needing to defend two residences. The Tokugawa period was an era of peace, stability,

The Heian Period: Social Status, Economy, And Feminism
Introduction
In the history of Japan, the Heian period is thought by many critics and literally experts an important
age of art and culture. During this time period, Japan was able to develop a strong and very
important sense of native visuals. The period was so developed that even merchants and warriors
had started in becoming important political and social figures within the Heian period. The period
had also witnessed a substantial rise in liberty of women and importance of feminism but it also had
seen the dominance of the elite over the labour and working class. Our study will focus on the three
key issues during the period and the impact they had on the Heian citizens: Social status, Economy
and Feminism.

As the total number of ranked candidates used to be more than the total number of vacant offices,
therefore, either those who could afford to offer gifts to the appointing authority or those who had
strong political connections were used to get the opportunity to hold the vacant offices more easily
than those who either could not afford to offer gifts or those who didn't have strong political
connections. As by securing the vacant offices, individuals not only get the opportunity to earn
money on regular intervals but they also get the opportunity to further progress in their respective
careers, hence securing the vacant offices was the most important thing for them to do. On the other
hand, although women were also used to be assigned with ranks but they were not made eligible to

people who have become so precious that they go out of their way to try and be sensitive in most
unpromising situations, trying to capture every moment of interest and are bound to look ridiculous

The Edo Period of Japan Influenced the Design of Video Games
The document will examine an Art period which has influenced the appearance and design of video
games. This will include the topic of the Edo period of Japan and how it affected generations of
artists to the modern day.
The Edo period set in the era of 1603–1867 was commonly known as the Tokugawa Period, this was
when the Japanese society was ruled by Tokugawa Shogunate and the country's 300 regional
Daimyo, which at the time were powerful territorial lords who rules most of Japan which then was
contained under strict social order, economic growth and prohibited foreign contact with outside
countries. Many of japans historical artists would usually create illustrations on large scrolls of
paper which are called 'Emakimono'. Paint ceramics, calligraphy on silk or paper, use ink wash to
paint vast landscapes. The most popular art form was ukiyo–e.
Tawaraya Sotatsu popularized the 'Tarashikomi' style of painting meaning "Dripping in" which
means applying a second layer of paint before the first is dry, it was mainly used for creating fine

Sensitive Period In Critical Period
Introduction
It is commonly accepted that the earlier people start learning a language, the more successful they
will be. However, it is difficult to ascertain how much intertwined language acquisition and age
really are. The concept of a "sensitive period", which is a phase during development when learning a
particular skill can occur more effectively than later on in life, is well known in nature. A few
examples are imprinting in ducks and song learning for songbirds (Clark 2009). The sensitive period
is sometimes regarded as critical, implying that, once it is past, that specific skill can no longer be
learnt.
The idea that human language is normally acquired during a critical period was first proposed by
Lenneberg, with the Critical Period Hypothesis (CPH). Considering data regarding recovery from
aphasia, Lenneberg (1967) hypothesized that language learning could only occur during a critical
period, starting from age two until twelve. This happens as the lateralization of the brain, which is
the specialization of the left hemisphere for language, is by then considered to be complete.
Therefore, the critical period is used to explain the reason why the 'automatic acquisition from mere
exposure to a given language seems to disappear after this age [puberty]' and 'foreign accents cannot
be overcome easily after puberty' (Lenneberg 1967: 176). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This essay aims to discuss the evidence concerning the CPH and to reflect upon its implications for
language learning. I will first consider feral children and then second language acquisition as ways
of testing the CPH, followed by the main causes of current dissent. Finally, I will conclude that the
existence of a critical period remains inconclusive and suggest that a sensible period is more

Chinese states dwindled down to seven through warfare. The major effects of the Period of Warring
States was an increase in philosophy, a change of ruling, and a change of ruling style. During the
Period of Warring States, there was a surplus of philosophical beliefs and because of the warring,
those beliefs were widely spread. Confucianism was prominent because of its emphasis on self

The Contributions Of Pragmatism In The Hellenistic Period
It was only after Alexander's conquest of the Greek homeland that classical ideas were put under
pressure by a changing political climate and social disruption, eventually causing the expanding
Greek world to turn to pragmatism and realism. The ensuing Hellenistic period saw a move towards
practical applications of scientific knowledge and art styles reflecting the more complex emotions
familiar to Hellenistic Greeks. However, despite changing attitudes, the ingenuity and technical
proficiency of Greek individuals was generally undiminished. In mathematics, for example, Euclid
(365–300 BCE) wrote 13 groundbreaking books on geometry that continued to be used until the late
19th century and "virtually invented classical (Euclidean) geometry as we know it" (Mastin, pars. 3).
Archimedes, a 3rd–century BCE mathematician from Syracuse, made significant practical advances
in the field of physics, inventing the compound pulley and the Archimedean screw; he famously
stated, "give me a fulcrum, and I'll shift the Earth," affirming his faith in applied science (Cary,
349). Early biologists and naturalists of the Hellenistic period increasingly sought applications in
medicine, which vastly improved medical care (Cary, 351). Astronomy also saw advances in
practical knowledge from figures such as Eratosthenes, who calculated the circumference of the
Earth, and Hipparchus, who determined the length of the moon's orbit to within one second (Violatti
(a), pars. 9). Architecture, once held up

Women's Role Of Women In The Medieval Period
As many would believe, women were thought and viewed to be inferior to men throughout history.
Based on this, they were not seen as ones to take on the same important roles as men would in their
societies like political jobs, warfare, influencer and innovators, and scientists. During the Medieval
period, women rose and began defying the normal stereotypes, even more than usual, and were
recognized by their actions. One woman was Margaret of Anjou, the queen consort of England.
Margaret was the daughter of René of Anjou and the wife of Henry VI. Her home country France
was at war against England and she was offered to King Henry VI as a peace treaty. Being a queen
consort, she did not rule and was an asset to the king. When King Henry suffered from an illness,
Margaret believed she was the one who should temporarily rule in his place. Unfortunately, title was
given to the Duke of York. This occurrence caused a rivalry to emerge between the House of
Lancaster and the House of York; This was called the War of the Roses as Lancaster wore red roses
in battle and York wore white. The second woman is Lady Murasaki, a daughter of Fujiwara family
and a Japanese novelist in the Heian period. She was very intelligent was a young girl and her father
still allowed her to get an education despite it being unsuitable for girls. After the death of her
husband, she went to court and wrote in a diary about the life she has in court and her thoughts. It is

Achievements Of The Tokugawa Period
Tokugawa Period by Luka Crane
The Tokugawa Period, also known as the Edo Period, ranging from 1603–1867 was the final period
of traditional Japan. It was said to promote internal peace, political stability and economic growth
and was under the Shogunate (military dictatorship) created by Tokugawa Ieyasu. During this period
of Japanese history, there were three main contributors to its successes and failures. Tokugawa
Ieyasu shaped the period by creating supremacy over the whole nation, the agricultural flaws of the
land opened new and innovative doors for food and culture and the Bushido code developed an
honourable way of life and created hard–working social classes for many years. Therefore, the three
aspects of key individuals, geography and Bushido was significant to the growth and success of
Japan.
There were many key individuals that helped shape the Tokugawa period, but the most important of
them all was Tokugawa Ieyasu. He impacted the period so heavily that the period is named after
him. Ieyasu was the first shogun and founded Shogunate which is a military dictatorship. This was
the start of the shogun and its immense power. As stated by Britannica, "As shogun, Ieyasu achieved
hegemony over the entire country by balancing the power of potentially hostile domains (tozama)
with strategically placed allies (fudai) and collateral houses (shimpan)." (Encyclopedia Britannica,
2017). This shows that he carefully thought through his plans. After he achieved this, he later

Japanese Art : The Edo Period Of The Japanese Culture
The Edo Period
Portrait of an Arhat (Rakan) was created in Edo period of the Japanese art culture. This period
started in 1615–1868 when culture expression started to really blossom for the Japanese culture
(Singer). From statues, lavish paintings, and religion the art speaks vibrant vibrations. This
culturally diverse period gets its name from the city of Edo, known as Tokyo modern day. Which
became the headquarters of the government when Tokugawa Ieyasu (1542 – 1616) unified the
country (Department of Asian Art). The Tokugawa regime was started in 1603, when the emperor, in
"recognition of Ieyasu's supremacy on the battlefield", appointed him shogun. Shogun is the highest
military position you can carry in Japan (Singer). After this Japan had strict laws on not using motor
vehicles were put into place. Going into the 1630s, contact with the outside world was stopped
through "official prohibition of foreigners" (Department of Asian Art). Around 1720 Edo had a
population of "more than one million residents having more population than London or Paris at the
time" (Singer). According to Art of Edo Japan Kyoto, was city of temples and shrines. It was the
leading center of arts and crafts production with a population of close to 400,000 (Singer).
Tokugawa had centralized government with 450 daimyo put into a place. He required them to meet

Essay On Sensitive Periods In Developement

  • 1. Essay on Sensitive Periods in Developement Sensitive Periods in Developement The child does not grow uniformly and homogeneously like a crystal or a carrot, but by stages or phases, which succeed one another and which, differ from one another. For proper growth and development it is necessary that the potentialities for developing human relationships with which the infant is born be exposed to the organizing influences of another human being. Accumulating evidence indicates that there exist critical developmental periods during which the organism is ready for differential development, within which periods it must receive the proper stimulations if it is to develop adequately. These critical developmental periods may be broadly outlined as follows: 1) The period during ... With respect to the reality of the critical developmental periods, it is, of course, well known that such critical developmental periods exist in the development of the body, with the principle well established that the earlier the interference with their development the more widespread will the disturbance in growth be. Tissues must reach a certain stage of differentiation before they can respond; later such tissues achieve a certain relative fixity, so that they can yield. Prenatal environmental influences For many years , in fact, it was believed that the baby in the uterus was completely insulated form all outside influences, but now we know that is not entirely true. Environmental influences ranging from radioactivity and stress in the outside world to drugs, chemicals, hormones, and viruses in the mother's bloodstream can affect prenatal development. Even though the placenta acts as a filter, keeping the blood of the mother and the fetus from mixing, a number of potentially dangerous substances can pass through it. And, of course, if the ... • 5. Japan During The Meiji Period From the early to mid 1800s, the United States expanded rapidly. With this expansion, the United States sought out new areas for trade commerce. With Britain and other countries heavily involved in China, the U.S. searched for another of trade within the region. President Millard Fillmore dispatched Commodore Matthew C. Perry with a letter demanding Japan to open their ports for commerce. Upon the first arrival, Americans were great with a completely new experience for people. Some people considered found the Japanese's culture to be repulsive while others were very fascinated. This paper discusses the experiences of two Americans who visited Japan during the Meiji Period compared to initial experiences. There were numerous reasons why the United States had an interest in forming diplomatic relations with Japan. The opening of China's ports for commerce along with the new acquisition of a California made the United States want to expand its influence in the world. One of the most abundant resources needed was coal. With steam ships replacing sailing ships, the United States had to establish a coaling station for refuel. With the heavy influence of the British over in China, Japan made for the perfect geographic location. America was involved in whaling for their oil. Prior to Commodore's Expedition to Japan, there were preconceptions of the type of people they were. American sailors left stranded on the island of Japan were typically imprisoned. • 9. Sensitive Periods Sensitive Periods Define the term sensitive periods Sensitive periods are a period in a child's life where they are obsessed with certain aspects of learning without any particular reason. This period is an optimum time for development and children can really develop specific abilities and skills. When children are in their sensitive periods and working with any activity, they will not show any signs of fatigue and will repeat the activity a number of times. These periods last for a certain amount of time; however the child may eventually lose interest and may move on to another activity. Development changes will not occur unless there is some kind of maturational process. It is essential to support the child's sensitive period ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... E.g. A child may indentify similar qualities using colour box 2. Explain why it is important to support and facilitate these periods It is important to support and facilitate this period because a child may need support to carry out a task independently so they can fulfil their sensitive period. E.g. If a child is carrying out a task they might need material to support them. Montessori quoted, "Such assistance will not consist in forming the child since this task belong to nature himself, but in a delicate respect for the outward manifestations of this development and in providing those means necessary for his formation which he cannot be obtain by his efforts alone." (Montessori, 1966, p.46). Also by preparing for the environment you are supporting the child's sensitive period. E.g. For sensitive period of order, the teacher would make sure the objects are kept in the same place and area. Overall, these periods of sensitivity play a vital role on the development of a child and without the support from teachers the child may exhibit deviations in his personalities. Outline any adverse consequences of not recognising If a child is deprived of supporting his development he may exhibit deviations in his personality because his psychic life is disturbed and may show signs of attachment, possessiveness, desire of power, fear, complex and lies. • 13. The Renaissance Period The argument being put forward in this dissertation is that the Renaissance in Europe, with specific emphasis on Italy, during the 15th Century, was the most influential period in developing the 'early modern' human society. Many believe that this was due to its almost perfect location between Western Europe and the Eastern shore of the Mediterranean. By analysing various factors and sources, as well as different aspects of society, for example political factors and the views of contemporary texts, it will provide enlightening insight into the changes made during the Renaissance period and how these changes are still reverberating. I believe that this question is an important one to study and to answer correctly and accurately because it means that we can trance back the origins of our society today and how it has evolved from, arguably, a more primitive one in terms of breakthroughs and technology. First of all, it is important to understand what the Renaissance period was all about and what it encumbered. The Renaissance period (French: 'Rebirth') is a progressive cultural movement that lasted for roughly 3 centuries, from the 14th to the 17th (roughly 1330– 1600), and is often referred to as 'the bridge between the Middle Ages and a Modern Era' (*1). The 'Rebirth' of a society, specifically Italy, was recognition of the past but also that it was separate from the present in terms of belief or ideology for example. This meant that a transitional phase occurred as past ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Under this regime Japan saw a long period of peace and order that went on for almost two hundred and fifty years. This was a very incredible achievement taking into account this was an era that was full of upsetting ordeals. The Sengoku Jidai or what is known as the age of a nation at war was the Belligerent states era of Japan where there were many rival daimyos that had their armies who fought one another to enable them have a massive jurisdiction of control over the whole of Japan that was split into two hundred and sixty countries at the time. During the tenure of Tokugawa leyasu, the government changed from a devolved feudal government to a military government that was in the form of bakufu. In this form of government there was the maintenance of a controlled environment among the daimyos since their rivalry was a major factor to the chaos that took place in the recently concluded Warring States Period. The main polices that were used in the Tokugawa system of governance were influencing the daimoyo, taking control over the imperial court, managing the foreign relationships, and sacralizing the legacy of Tokugawa. From the Tokugawa Japan, it stated that the social and economic Backgrounds of the current Japan, Tokugawa leyasu put more exertion so that he could control the daimyos and reduce them in their numbers. • 21. The Heian Period Essay The Heian Period from about 794–1185 A.D. was an impressive era in Japanese history. Considered Japan's Classical Age, it was a period of wealth and sophistication. Peace and prosperity, high culture, powerful clans, new ideas and relative independence of foreign influence marked this time. The move to the capital of Heian–kyō (modern day Kyoto) was motivated in large part on a desire by Emperor Kammu to reduce the substantial influence exercised by the monasteries in Heijō–kyō (modern day Nara). Nara was patterned after the capital city of Tang, China, and its religion was based on their brand of Buddhism. Earlier Imperial sponsorship of Buddhism had politicized the clergy, resulting in power and corruption within their leadership. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Great care was taken in color coordination of kimonos. In addition, lavish makeup was also prized, and women of high caste were never seen in public without it. Even among men, good taste in dress and manner were valued more highly than skill in battle. The Heian Period marked a newfound independence in Japanese thought and brought with it a sense of national pride that caused its people to begin a separation from the dominant Chinese influence. Although trade continued on unofficial levels, Japanese rulers severed official ties with China. Big changes were taking place in Japanese writing, as well. Although Chinese remained the official written language of the court, Kana, a simplified method of writing, was developed. Each symbol was a simplified version of Chinese characters and represented spoken syllables used in Japanese. The ease of learning led to broader literacy and many poems and stories being written. Many women possessed the ability to read and write and were able to express their ideas, one of the best examples being The Tale of Genji, by Murasaki Shikibu. Believed to be the world's first novel, it offers a detailed look at Heian court life, rituals, and culture. Educated women such as these were often able to progress in Heian society, with considerable rights and privileges. As such, they filled roles at all levels and were often major players in politics and power struggles. This period also saw the beginnings of the samurai. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Edo Period Research Paper There was once a time in Japan called the Edo period – this was a period where Japan was ruled under the Tokugawa Shogunates, a feudal military government. Japan had a stable population, and a popular enjoyment of art and culture. However, they had an uncompromising policy prohibiting any foreign contact, ultimately making it completely isolated from the western world. There was also a strict social order, where everyone knew their status. Emperors and high nobilities had invulnerable prestige, but were weak in power. The shogun and daimyō, on the other hand, were very powerful due to their relation to the Tokugawa. This period began in 1603 and ended in 1868, when Tokugawa Yoshinobu resigned – this was the beginning of the Meiji Restoration, the name meaning the restoration of power to emperors. Meiji Tennō (personal name Mutsuhito) was born on November 3, 1852, in Kyoto, Japan. His father was Emperor Kōmei, the 121st emperor, therefore making Meiji the heir to the throne. Meiji grew up during the Edo period and, along with the group that overthrew the Tokugawa's, wanted to create a modernised nation with a strong economic system, as Japan was too isolated and did not participate in international power politics. Tokugawa Shogunate lasted for more than 250 years and Medieval Japan changed dramatically from feudalism to a modernised society due to the Meiji restoration which also turned japan into a world of power. The three main focuses which will be discussed in this Essay are political, social and military which changed in the Meiji restoration. Education, social class, and women's roles changed drastically when Japan began to modernize. Due to the government which played a huge role in the social change of the Meiji restoration by creating many new laws. The biggest change during the Meiji restoration was the schooling of the Japanese children as back in feudal Japan it was only the high class and nobles that got to go school and now after the Meiji restoration it is everyone. • 33. The Period Of Ancient Greece The Hellenistic Age was a period of ancient Greece lasting between 323 B.C after the death of Alexander the Great and 30 B.C the beginning of the Roman Empire. Alexander was determined to conquer unknown lands and his expedition provided a bridge between city–states and the Greek Hellenistic World. The Hellenistic World is what resulted from the disintegrated empire that came short after Alexanders death. Four major Hellenistic kingdoms emerged from the successors of Alexander. The Greeks and easterners made notable accomplishments during this period of experiments, novelties and individualism which influenced the Roman culture. The Hellenistic kingdoms shared much in common with their Greek past. Although they had a democratic form of government it forced Greeks of the Hellenistic Age to accept monarchy, which they hated. For large cities such as Seleucid, monarchism suited well. This establishment by Seleucus covered much of Asia. The city of Pregamum later emerged by freeing itself from Seleucid and was under the Attalid dynasty. Antigonus established the Antigonid dynasty as ruler of Macedonia, and Ptolemy established himself as king of Egypt, founding the Ptolemaic dynasty of pharaohs. Not long after the four major kingdoms were established challenges appeared from internal conflicts and external enemies. Although they inherited the most lethal military system in the world from Alexander and Philip, these wars required murderous weapons and machinery. Massive siege ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This system caused a lot of infighting between powers and made unification very difficult. The young Meiji government realized this problem also and set out to fix it. One of the key issues of the Tokugawa and the periods before it was Japan was very difficult to unify military and politically. Each clan often fought for dominance and each manned their own military's with appointed daimyo. This system of feudal domains made it nearly impossible for a proper political system. Meiji and his advisors, with the goal of unification and centralization, quickly addressed this issue and "by July 1869 the feudal lords had been requested to give up their domains, and in 1871 these domains were abolished and transformed into prefectures of a unified central state." (3) This accomplishment of a unified central state led to many positive things that helped Japan modernize. Foremost, the creation of a unified army that was once not previously possible. After the fall of the domains in 1871, the Meiji government enacted "a national army based on universal conscription was created in 1872." (3) This was an enormous change as it not only made a national army but also made commoner and samurai serve besides each other equally. • 45. The Between Classical And Classical Period And Hellenistic... As the Hellenistic society shifted away from the Classical ideals of perfectionism and idolization of the elites and gods in sculpture, artists began to be fixated on illustrating imperfection of a variety of individuals faced with ruthless authenticity of their emotional struggles. Whereas, Classical architecture focused on dedicating massive structures to the gods to emphasize their divinity, but Hellenistic architecture used advanced technology to exemplify Alexander the Great's magnificence. Thus, differences in architecture can be seen in the sophisticated town of Alexandria with structures such as the lighthouse that show how Alexander the Great influenced town planning that was centralized on the creation of a superior city, likewise, The Altar at Pergamon expresses the loss of focus on the divine through unique sculptural techniques. Change can also be seen in the sculptures of The Boxer and The Old Market Woman as they are depicted to be imperfectly individualistic and in emotional distress. Between the Classical period and Hellenistic period, sculptural style change occurred leading to distinguishing features that showcase cultural values of the society. Carrie Tovar, Curator of Art in the College of Public Service and Community Solutions at Arizona State University, discusses in her article, Battered, But Unbeaten: A New Getty Acquisition, how artisans of the Hellenistic period possessed the ability to display the subjects of their pieces with ruthless ... • 49. The Tokugawa Period: The Rise Of Fascism In Japan The Tokugawa period signified the beginning of an eventual shift from Fascism in Japan. This was possible through the growing supremacy of the ruling class that brought about this change. The country went through many serious transitions during this period. Peace was enforced by a Shogun that demanded absolute loyalty from his daimyos. The country was isolated from all foreign traders. The Shogun saw how the rise of a lower–class revolution could cause the destruction of the upper classes. So, to prevent a revolution in the lower classes, the Shogun began a revolution in the upper classes. The policies enforced during the Tokugawa Period were put in place to grow the power of the aristocracy, but eventually, it would help with the formation of a fascist government in Japan during the early twentieth century. The country during the Tokugawa period was closed to outsiders as a way of preventing daimyos from gaining power, as well as preventing the rise of an independent bourgeoisie. The prevention of the formation of a merchant class was the primary focus of the Tokugawa Shogunate, but as the nation continued to grow its domestic economy, the formation of a bourgeoisie was impossible to stop. One of the early periods was the Eastern Woodland period (800–200 BCE) which led to the mound emergence and when the Middle Woodland period (c. 200 BCE– AD 400) started, the mounds became more significant for ritual and spiritual meaning widespread (Scarre 681: 2013). Adena and the Middle Woodland societies traded throughout the land such as the southern Appalachians and the Great Lakes. They would trade artifacts like marine shells, whelks, and pipestones (ibid 682). Most of the Middle Woodland artifacts were actually found in Ohio though it was evident that people would travel long– distances to different destinations. During the Late Woodland period (AD 400–1000), mounds were coming to an end in some areas as well as long–distance trades. Population didn't cease to grow and stretched through the Midwest and Southwest. The villages that separated into owning more land where it was farther from river access started to cultivate native plants but they only lasted a few years (ibid 684). When the trading system of non–local materials started to die, weapons began to emerge such as arrowheads, bows and arrows for hunting. Tension between villages rose which then led to fighting and death which then also led to the formation of militarized groups by the end of the first millennium (ibid 686). This age of curiosity and exploration of a country, that the world would later know as Japan, was called the Tokugawa period. As a result of their newfound self, came art and more specifically, woodblock prints. These woodblock prints are significant to the Tokugawa era because they reflected what was going on during that period, including: what was currently happening, how the people viewed the world, and what new discoveries were made. During the Tokugawa era, the woodblock prints show that this was a time of peace because of the often travel, economic growth and significance of nature. The beautiful ... Furthermore, Tsukudajima displays a time of peace because of the economic growth and beauty nature held over the people. These boats suggest that there are goods being imported and exported and Japan is earning money, therefore an economy is growing. Moreover, the beauty of Tsukudajima's starry night, almond eye moon, and colorful sky sitting on the horizon indicates that nature holds a power over the artists. Since the moon looks like the shape of an almond eye, the artist probably sees the moon as a guardian, which suggests that the people praised nature. • 61. The Period Of The Absorbent Mind Essay Human beings are nature's most incredible creation, and early childhood is the crucial period, where the foundation for his/her future is going to be established. The period of the Absorbent Mind (Birth to Six years) along with the Sensitive periods, plays a significant part in the development of movement, language and social skills of the child. During the first three years of life, the child's mind is unconscious and purely absorbent. He/She has the ability to imbibe whatever happens in the environment, and later use it towards the overall development (physical as well as psychic). The Study of the Sensitive periods (a distinct sensibility of the child towards acquiring a particular characteristic), helps in understanding the psychic growth of the child. A child is born in this world; this implies he/she has entered a new environment, ready to absorb every minute activity that happens around them. "Whatever is formed at that time in the child's mneme has the power to become eternal" – (The Absorbent Mind, Dr. Maria Montessori, Page No.120) Horme – The Unconscious inner drive of the child, awakens the child's enthusiasm towards his/her environment in the first three years of birth. The Silent observer acquires every movement from the environment and stores it in the Mneme – the unconscious memory. Whatever is saved in the Mneme, later becomes a part of the child's personality. In South Africa, adolescence is a sensitive period, and not a critical period, for identity development as it is "a period during which normal development is most sensitive to abnormal environmental conditions" (Bruer, 2001). When looking at South Africa particularly, the abnormal environmental conditions would be apartheid, and one will see its profound effects on identity development. Adolescence is a sensitive period rather than a critical period as a critical period focuses on a system that "requires a specific kind of experience if normal development is to occur" (Bruer, 2001). Therefore this essay will place an emphasis on adolescence as a sensitive period for identity development. One first needs to explore the term, sensitive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Outside that specific time frame, the experience does not have the same effect (Armstrong et al., 2006). For the reason that this essay is focusing on identity development in South Africa, it would be more accurate in stating that adolescence is a sensitive period for identity development. Events that affect individuals during a sensitive period have more chance overcoming the effects than if it were a critical period. Thus, sensitive periods are subjects of theoretical interest and empirical examination which will therefore contribute to the idea that adolescence is a sensitive period for identity development in South Africa. Identity development of South African adolescents in a democratic society is a crucial topic to explore as one will find out how important adolescence is in determining one's identity. Given South Africa's past, it is only correct in saying that apartheid had an enormous effect on people's lives and in particular on adolescents. Once we examine the effects it had on adolescents, one will realise that adolescence is considered to be a sensitive period for identity development. Political and Social events such as the end of apartheid are likely to have a negative effect on an individual's psychosocial development (Norris et al., 2008). Thom & Coetzee (2004) stated that identity formation depends mostly on how an individual recognises society and their expectations of it. It also relies on specific stages in one's ... Sensitive Periods in Early Development Essay examples Sensitive Periods in Early Development From the moment of conception to the moment we are born and grow into adulthood, the timing of even the first beginning of our life journey is crucial. Even the timing of fertilization can be too soon or too late in which will cause the organism to be destroyed. (The Development of Children, 2nd ed). The mother carrying a baby has a responsibility to ensure enough nutrition is supplied for the rapid growth of the organism. However it is also crucial that the fetus also plays a part to survive, by being active and moving to develop. Also that by the time they had reached adulthood, many were more likely to have antisocial behavior problems. So here we can see from this research that stress also plays a vital role of a healthy developing baby. Some fact (Yarrow, 1961, as cited in Early Experience, 1967) states that also the first few years of life have crucial effects upon later development and adult characteristics and that the significance of early infantile experience for later life development has been repeated so frequently and so seriously that the general effectiveness of this declaration is now almost unchallenged. Bowlby, 1951, (as cited in Early Experience, 1967) quotes that "the prolonged deprivation of the young child of maternal care may have grave and far–reaching effects in his character and so on the whole of his future life." The Samurai's Life During The Tokugawa Period The Samurai were the medieval warriors of Japan and were usually called bushi or buke (Matt Williams, Unknown) but only 10% or less of Japan's population was able to become a Bushi. Although this may sound quite desirable, it managed to improve for Buke when the Tokugawa period came. Their lifestyle changed for the better and they didn't have to worry about death, while still retaining the same position on the hierarchy pyramid. Because of this being a samurai knight in the Tokugawa Period was desirable. The Samurai's lifestyle changed a lot when the Tokugawa Period came, as this was when civil peace occurred throughout Feudal Japan. During this time, many changes happened to promote stability among the people and Japan. Early The Shogun adoptive a system which was later called Neo–Confucianism based on Confucianism (From China). This system stressed the importance of morals, education and hierarchical order in the government and society (Japan Guide.com).The Shogun needed to create peace and by using segregation, there were four types of divisions during the Edo period. First at the top was the Shogun and Samurai, they created structure and peace among the domains. Second in line was the peasants because without them the most important need would not be filled which was food. Artisans were third in line being they added some value for the reason that they produced goods like swords for the Samurai, artwork, music, and painting/printing. Last on the list of importance was the merchants. Merchants made money off people and therefor held no value to the Shogun. Due to a closed door policy that was enforced by the Shogun hardly anything came into Japan without permission during the Edo period. The Shogun also limited trade with other Western Nations and prevented Japan from trading. • 93. The Classical Period Of The Baroque Era The Classical time period, which spanned a length of seventy years, from 1750 to 1820, was very different in nature from its predecessor, the Baroque time period. The Baroque era featured works that were ornamentally elaborate, where the artists and composers centered their works on a big, bold style that was dramatic in its composition. Artists and composers transferred strong feelings of tension and emotion into their works and it was common for there to be some type of action or movement happening within the work. Those who lived in the Classical time period, valued simplicity and wanted to return to the ideals of the Greeks. Therefore, the Classical time period is characterized by clear structural clarity, simplicity, smoothness, and symmetry. However, though the works took a step back from the grand movement of the Baroque era, the composers and artists of the Classical time period did lay out a tuneful and elegant style in their music and art. Out of the Classical era came many renowned artists and composers, two of those whom are artist Sir Thomas Lawrence and composer Ludwig van Beethoven ("NYU"). In the year of 1769, Thomas Lawrence was born to his parents in Bristol, England. Though he was born in Bristol, Lawrence grew up in Devizes and later on, in Bath and Oxford, where his self– education as an artist was furthered. • 97. Sensitive Periods During The Caterpillar Of The Prosthesis... SENSITIVE PERIODS Introduction: 'Sensitive periods' is a term developed by the Dutch geneticist Hugo de Vries and later used by the Italian educator Maria Montessori. Montessori cites DeVries' example of a Sensitive Period in the caterpillar of the Prosthesis butterfly. The caterpillar must feed on very tender leaves, and yet the butterfly lays its eggs in the most hidden fork of the branch, near the trunk of the tree. Who will show the little caterpillars hidden there, the moment they leave the egg, that the tender leaves they need are to be found at the extreme tip of the branch, in the light? Now the caterpillar is strongly sensible to light; light attracts it, summons it as by an irresistible voice, fascinates it, and the caterpillar goes wriggling towards where the light is brightest, till it reaches the tip of the branch, and thus finds itself, famished for food, among the budding leaves that can give it nourishment. It is a strange fact that when the caterpillar has passed through its first stage and is full grown, it can eat other food, and then loses its sensibility to light. This has been proved in scientific laboratories where there are neither trees nor leaves but only the caterpillar and the light. According to Montessori sensitive periods, refers to several overlapping periods of development where a child is sensitive to a particular stimuli or type of interaction. During this time, beauty was a major project to the Heian's. "Every aspect of life was modeled around finding beauty, including handwriting, dress, appearance, gardens and homes." But one of the most important was self beauty, as in making yourself look beautiful. Or atleast looking pretty during that time period, because today we might considered their ways of getting ready for everyday quite unusual and unnecessary. Usually, symphonies consist of string, brass, percussion, and woodwind instruments, but do not have to use every instrument that is in those categorizes they just use a few or none at all for each. They also do not just use one violin or one flute there is usually a couple of each instrument so that there can be variety of sounds. For instance, if the piece calls for a certain instrument to be played multiple ways then they would use more than one of those instruments, so that all the pressure would not be placed on one performer. For the Great National, Clementi used a variety of instruments that would be typically used such as violins, the piano, and trombones. We also learned about absolute music which is music that does not have a written story to it like most modern songs do today that have lyrics to it, but in absolute music its more about the instruments and the music itself. Clementi's symphony is considered to be absolute music because there are no words and does not make up a story, the music itself coveys a power story. It was their intent that the music would be able to be strong by itself to create a sort of story that did not need words to convey a powerful message. This makes it worse for students because they are unable to do work" (Abdelmalek). Furthermore into the topic, the 10 minute passing period lets and/or helps teachers prepare for their next period. A longer passing period would prevent students from asking to go use the bathroom, get a drink, or be late, so teacher(s) have the student's full concentration, "If your student doesn't have to interrupt you to use the restroom or get some water, it is going to be a better learning environment for the rest of the students. Without these interruptions you may continue your lesson and have student's full concentration, instead of worrying about their personal needs" (Medina). And also in addition to that, teachers will have more time to prepare for their next class compared to 5 minutes, so teachers can get coffee or take a break during the passing period. A primary example of this is Tokugawa's establishment of the capital at Edo which in present day Japan is called the iconic Tokyo. Additionally, he established a strong central government, along with his shoguns imposing an era of unity, stability, and peace in Japan. The shoguns closely monitored and controlled the local daimyo possessed a relative amount of power but remained to be tested for their loyalty and kept under control by the shoguns who restricted their family and eventually became hostages. The daimyo was required to maintain two residences in an attempt to prevent rebellion because of this wasting factor which prohibited them as they had minuscule amounts of time to construct a powerful army due to constantly needing to defend two residences. As the total number of ranked candidates used to be more than the total number of vacant offices, therefore, either those who could afford to offer gifts to the appointing authority or those who had strong political connections were used to get the opportunity to hold the vacant offices more easily than those who either could not afford to offer gifts or those who didn't have strong political connections. As by securing the vacant offices, individuals not only get the opportunity to earn money on regular intervals but they also get the opportunity to further progress in their respective careers, hence securing the vacant offices was the most important thing for them to do. On the other hand, although women were also used to be assigned with ranks but they were not made eligible to hold the offices of ministers or governors. But some women used to hold key positions in the courts and influenced the decisions involving the appointments of various men to various offices. But this made some women considering themselves highly superior to another. "Those who think of themselves as being superior to everyone else in this way will suffer and come to a bad end and people who have become so precious that they go out of their way to try and be sensitive in most unpromising situations, trying to capture every moment of interest and are bound to look ridiculous and superficial." It does provide evidence that, even so many years back, a strong sense of dominance had existed in women to such a great extent that they considered people below them as non–existent and they had even used their goodwill to exert substantial influence at crucial ... • 129. Sensitive Period In Critical Period Introduction It is commonly accepted that the earlier people start learning a language, the more successful they will be. However, it is difficult to ascertain how much intertwined language acquisition and age really are. The concept of a "sensitive period", which is a phase during development when learning a particular skill can occur more effectively than later on in life, is well known in nature. A few examples are imprinting in ducks and song learning for songbirds (Clark 2009). The sensitive period is sometimes regarded as critical, implying that, once it is past, that specific skill can no longer be learnt. The idea that human language is normally acquired during a critical period was first proposed by Lenneberg, with the Critical Period Hypothesis (CPH). Considering data regarding recovery from aphasia, Lenneberg (1967) hypothesized that language learning could only occur during a critical period, starting from age two until twelve. This happens as the lateralization of the brain, which is the specialization of the left hemisphere for language, is by then considered to be complete. Therefore, the critical period is used to explain the reason why the 'automatic acquisition from mere exposure to a given language seems to disappear after this age [puberty]' and 'foreign accents cannot be overcome easily after puberty' (Lenneberg 1967: 176). ... I will first consider feral children and then second language acquisition as ways of testing the CPH, followed by the main causes of current dissent. • 137. The Contributions Of Pragmatism In The Hellenistic Period It was only after Alexander's conquest of the Greek homeland that classical ideas were put under pressure by a changing political climate and social disruption, eventually causing the expanding Greek world to turn to pragmatism and realism. The ensuing Hellenistic period saw a move towards practical applications of scientific knowledge and art styles reflecting the more complex emotions familiar to Hellenistic Greeks. However, despite changing attitudes, the ingenuity and technical proficiency of Greek individuals was generally undiminished. In mathematics, for example, Euclid (365–300 BCE) wrote 13 groundbreaking books on geometry that continued to be used until the late 19th century and "virtually invented classical (Euclidean) geometry as we know it" (Mastin, pars. 3). Archimedes, a 3rd–century BCE mathematician from Syracuse, made significant practical advances in the field of physics, inventing the compound pulley and the Archimedean screw; he famously stated, "give me a fulcrum, and I'll shift the Earth," affirming his faith in applied science (Cary, 349). Early biologists and naturalists of the Hellenistic period increasingly sought applications in medicine, which vastly improved medical care (Cary, 351). Astronomy also saw advances in practical knowledge from figures such as Eratosthenes, who calculated the circumference of the Earth, and Hipparchus, who determined the length of the moon's orbit to within one second (Violatti (a), pars. 9). • 145. Women's Role Of Women In The Medieval Period As many would believe, women were thought and viewed to be inferior to men throughout history. Based on this, they were not seen as ones to take on the same important roles as men would in their societies like political jobs, warfare, influencer and innovators, and scientists. During the Medieval period, women rose and began defying the normal stereotypes, even more than usual, and were recognized by their actions. One woman was Margaret of Anjou, the queen consort of England. Margaret was the daughter of René of Anjou and the wife of Henry VI. Her home country France was at war against England and she was offered to King Henry VI as a peace treaty. Being a queen consort, she did not rule and was an asset to the king. When King Henry suffered from an illness, Margaret believed she was the one who should temporarily rule in his place. Unfortunately, title was given to the Duke of York. This occurrence caused a rivalry to emerge between the House of Lancaster and the House of York; This was called the War of the Roses as Lancaster wore red roses in battle and York wore white. The second woman is Lady Murasaki, a daughter of Fujiwara family and a Japanese novelist in the Heian period. She was very intelligent was a young girl and her father still allowed her to get an education despite it being unsuitable for girls. After the death of her husband, she went to court and wrote in a diary about the life she has in court and her thoughts. It is believed that Murasaki sensed that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was said to promote internal peace, political stability and economic growth and was under the Shogunate (military dictatorship) created by Tokugawa Ieyasu. During this period of Japanese history, there were three main contributors to its successes and failures. Tokugawa Ieyasu shaped the period by creating supremacy over the whole nation, the agricultural flaws of the land opened new and innovative doors for food and culture and the Bushido code developed an honourable way of life and created hard–working social classes for many years. Therefore, the three aspects of key individuals, geography and Bushido was significant to the growth and success of Japan. There were many key individuals that helped shape the Tokugawa period, but the most important of them all was Tokugawa Ieyasu. He impacted the period so heavily that the period is named after him. Ieyasu was the first shogun and founded Shogunate which is a military dictatorship. This was the start of the shogun and its immense power. As stated by Britannica, "As shogun, Ieyasu achieved hegemony over the entire country by balancing the power of potentially hostile domains (tozama) with strategically placed allies (fudai) and collateral houses (shimpan)." (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2017). This shows that he carefully thought through his plans. After he achieved this, he later ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
