The Brain ... the Mind ... how the Mind functions, how experiences are formed, why is my experience different from yours? Emotions are born from our interpretations not from our circumstances ... and more in this presentation (Part 1)
7. The physical Brain
Some Facts
• The adult human brain weighs,
on average, about 1.5 kg
• It functions as the Powerhouse
(the centre of the Nervous System)
in most animals.
Sponges, jellyfish and starfish have no brain.
Possibly even some ‘humans’ we may know!
8. The physical Brain
Some More Facts
• We are born with the same number of
Brain Cells (Neurons) as adults have.
• We have around 100 billion Neurons ...
• that transmit electrical signals between
each other and throughout the body.
• 10–23 Watts of Brain Power when awake.
10. The physical Brain
Some More Facts
• 70% of the Brain is water.
• We actually use 100% of our Brain.
• Our Brain uses ⅕ of our daily energy.
• The living brain is ‘pale pink’ while a
preserved brain is grey, hence the
reference to ‘grey matter’.
20. You take in everything
by means of your
Senses
How do you
Experience Life?
21. What your Senses
perceive is ‘Filtered’
in your Mind
before you even
make sense of it.
How do you Experience Reality?
22. Events are happening around us
Experiencing
Your Personal Reality
taken in by our Physical Senses
processed through our many Mental Filters
Our Meaning is Formed
This is our Version of Reality!
23. What our Senses perceive
once this is ‘Filtered’
in our Mind
becomes ‘our’ personal
Reality.
Experiencing
Your Personal Reality
24. They include
‘our’
• Past Experiences / Memories
• Opinions, Values and Beliefs
• Cultural backgrounds
• Linguistic abilities
• Character, Traits and Attitude
• Fears and Fancies . . .
What are our Mental Filters?
25. By what your Senses perceive
after this is ‘Filtered’
in your Mind
thereby making it
your own, personal reality.
So how do you Experience Reality?
31. • We experience reality
through our physical senses
• What we take in is ‘filtered’
before we decide what it
means to us
So, let’s summarise:
32. • What we believe to be True
is our ‘personal’ version of
Reality
• No two people will perceive
Reality (or Truth) in an
identical manner
So, let’s summarise:
33. • Emotion is a result of how
we interpret what is going on
• Emotions, therefore, are
born inside us … not outside
• It is possible to alter our
reaction (emotion)
So, let’s summarise:
34. • What we experience in our
own minds creates Memories
• And Memories are perceived
as ‘good’ or ‘bad’ depending
on what Emotions they recall
So, let’s summarise:
35. • But Memory is itself a result
of how we ‘filter’ events, and
so it is a ‘modified’ version
of reality
• Besides being selective and,
therefore, incomplete.
So, let’s summarise:
36. • But whatever is felt and
remembered is ‘True’ for us
• Even if the rest of the world
says otherwise, even if it is
only our interpretation
So, let’s summarise:
37. • These Memories ( loaded with
Emotional content ) are often
carried by us for many years
• They shape our bodies, affect
our actions and often even
our attitude towards life.
So, we may Conclude by saying that:
38. • As beautiful as it is to ‘recall’
the pleasant memories …
• It is essential to ‘release’ the
bad ones, the heavy feelings,
to free ourselves and our lives.
Art is a good way to do this.
So, in Conclusion:
39. Do you need help to identify what you
really (really) want?
Want to get assistance in overcoming whatever
is blocking you?
Are you ready to bring about that change?
