3. “Human-computer interaction is a
discipline concerned with the
design, evaluation and
implementation of interactive
computing systems for human
use and with the study of major
phenomena surrounding them”
(ACM, 1996, p. 5).

25. HCI expert Johnny Lee discovered we can make our own
interactive whiteboards for about $50. Pictured above: that is a
normal, white markerboard that Johnny transformed into a
MULTI-TOUCH interactive white board. He must’ve been a tad
nervous… this image ends up being “Hell!” instead of “Hello!”

30. This is a screenshot of Rhonda, an open-source “3D drawing tool”
(Pitaru, 2010a, para 1). The availability of 3D drawing tools may
soon increase with the growing popularity of 3D movies and
television. Rhonda has been around since 2003, but expect
sophisticated 3D drawing tools and tablets to enter the classroom
in the next 10 years (I’m willing to put my entire reputation behind
that statement).
3D Drawing, Modeling
34. I took the screenshot above from the amazing demo video of Sonic Wire Sculptor, a
new iPhone app which “turns your 3D drawing into sound [and] introduces a simple
yet deep connection between visual and audio composition” (Pitaru, 2010b, para 2).
This app’s educational value in a typical K-12 classroom may not be immediately
apparent, but, then again, the arts – as a whole – are not as apparent, visible, or
financed as they once were. This saddens me, especially considering the potentials of
human-computer interaction leading to art forms we have yet to imagine.
I highly recommend clicking the link for this app and watching the demo video. Pretty
cool stuff.
