As a Linux Newbie
●
16 years ago, When I first started Linux, they looked up
Korean Linux Document on the KLDP( 한국어 리눅스 문서화
프로젝트 , Korean Linux Documentation Project) site
– (Currently, It is rarely used by Korean Linux Users)
– Site: https://kldp.org/
●
14 years ago, I found the Korean threads on KLDP
– ttf-alee 11 업로드 (upload) https://kldp.org/node/74311
– " 구슬체 " 에서 한자대신 한글이 출력되는 문제 (The problem: Hangul
is printed form "Guseul" font instead of Hanja"
https://kldp.org/node/89240
9
As a Linux Newbie
●
Some Korean thread’s some problems on KLDP
– Some FLOSS Korean developers ignore Hanja( 한자 / 漢字 ,
Chinese characters) issues
– One FLOSS Korean developer made the Hanja problem on
font(“Guseol” font)
– The Korean font developer insists, “Hanja is not Korean
Language” and change hanja to Korean hanja sound
●
ex) 漢字 → 한자
10
As a Linux Newbie
●
“Guseul” font’s Hanja
issue on KLDP ( 15 years
ago)
– Strongly Problematic
●
Ideographs and Korean Hanja
sound cannot be mapped 1:1
ex) 樂– 4 Sounds
악 ak 낙 nak 락 rak 요 yo
●
There is a problem that
characters cannot be properly
expressed When Chinese &
Japanese strings appear

As a Linux Newbie
●
Ubuntu Korea’s libHWP Incident (2013)
– Korean Open Source developer has already developed HWP open
source library (libHWP)
– One member copied HWP open source library, and he lied that he
developed the HWP library himself had developed the HWP library
– As a result, HWP open source library was closed & destroyed
– It shows the problem of the FLOSS community’s responsibility

When I contributed to some FLOSS projects (such as,
GNOME gucharmap, GNOME characters, KDE
kcharselect, libhangul, GNU libunistring, etc)
– I’m curious about the development of Ideographs( 漢字 / 字汉 ,
한자 , かんじ ) processing in East Asian languages such as
Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese
– So, I have participated in a variety of FLOSS conferences in East
Asia regions (such as Japan, Mainland China, Taiwan, etc)

– During the event, support
for meetup & events at the
agency
●
Cons
– Tight schedule, short times
– The agency loves ‘MS Office’
OOXML formats & ‘hwp’
format
– After event, Participators
lose motivation to
participate in Contribution
52
NIPA’s Event ‘Contributon’
●
One of Contributon Mentor
– Translation) In an Open Source support program(Contributon),

I checked only Red Star OS 3.0, based on KDE
81
Extra. North Korea’s Office suite
" 서광 (seo gwang)"
●
Under North Korea’s Character set standard, “KPS9566”
shows nine multiply encoded hangul jamo
●
김일성 (Kim Il Sung, former DPRK’s leader), 김정일 (Kim Jong il, former
DPRK’s leader), 김정은 (Kim Jong Un, DRPK’s leader)
82
●
In this year, I read an article on North Korea’s IT news
– 붉은별 4.0 서광 오피스에서 MS 워드 파일 편집 가능하다
– Red Star Os 4.0, Seo gwang Office can edit MS Word file
●
https://www.nkeconomy.com/news/articleView.html?idxno=3213
●
The article shows that it can open ODF format & Microsoft Word file formats
●
In my opinion
– It is probable that North Korea authority use ODF format. (I don’t
know exactly about North Korea’s situation though)
– North Korean developers seem to be using FLOSS projects
because of trade sanctions.
Extra. North Korea’s Office suite
" 서광 (seo gwang)"

Future
works
●
In Korea
– Spread “LibreOffice” word
– Improve LibreOffice features for Korean
– Promote “LibreOffice” and use ODF
– Activating the LibreOffice Korean
community even more
●
Long-term project
– Both Koreas promote LibreOffice
