2. The johari window model is a simple and
useful tool for illustrating and improving
self awareness and mutual understanding
between individual within group. the johari
window terminology refers to self and other
. Self refers to the person subject to the
johari window analysis and others refers to
other people in the person’s group or team
3. The j w model was devised by American
psychologists , joseph luft and harry Ingham
,in 1955.
The model was called johari after combining
the first name of the founder ,joe of joseph
luft and harry of ingam . In early publication
,the word appears as joHari ; it was later
modified johari.
4. Open area – this is the part of an individual personality that is
open for the individual himself or herself and for other also .it
represent all that is known by the person about himself or
herself and it also known by other.
Blind area – as the quadrants name implies ,this is the area of
one’s personality about which the individual is totally
unaware ,i.e. the person does not know about his or her
behavior or feeling but other people are aware about those.
Hidden area – This is the area that includes feeling ,fear etc .,
that are known to the person about himself or herself but are
purposely hidden from other because of some reasons
Unknown area – This is area that is not known to the person
about himself or herself and other also do not know about
the person
5. It has become a widely used model for understanding
and training self –awareness and personal development
and improving communication ,IPR, group dynamic,
team development.
It put emphasis on soft skill ,behaviour ,empathy ,
cooperation.
It can be used to improve an individual’s relationship
with others or group's relationship with other group .
To assess and improve group’s relation to other group.
