MUSEUMS IN INDIA
 The museums of any country represent their past and

history. The Indian Museums too present a part of India on
their own. See the Indian History unfold itself in the
unspoken walls of these museums which have the past
closed in them. Here are the some of the most famous
ones..
 India is famous for its museum that proves the rich culture
of the country. Museums of India are best to explore the
people, culture, beliefs, and history of ancient India. Indian
tour can’t be completed without its museums, museums of
India are an archive of India’s history and government and
archaeology. Museums are the treasure house of ancient
documents, there are so many unique museums in India, I
am on my way to explore them and will present in front of
you very soon. Some of the unique museum in India are
Museum of toilets,Bigfoot Cross,oil museum,Rail musuem
and India’s first electricity museum etc.
National Museum Delhi:

 National Museum is located on Janpath, New Delhi. The

National Museum is the largest museum in India.
 It holds variety of articles ranging from pre-historic era to
modern works of art.
 The impressive building of National Museum is the houses of
curious artifacts of the Indus Valley Civilisation and the
Mughal era.
 Some of the Museum in Delhi are National Rail Museum,
Museum of Natural History, Nehru Museum &
Planetorium,air force museum and Gandhi Darshan.
National Rail Museum is one of the interesting places in
Delhi to know Indian train models and luxury coaches that
were once used by great maharajas.
The Prince of Wales Museum Mumbai:



India’s one of the best-known Museums is The Prince of Wales
Museum Mumbai. The Prince of Wales Museum is renamed as
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya. The museum
has the art, sculpture, old firearms, rare coins and a priceless
collection of antiques from pre historic era. Mumbai has several
more museums that depict the rich art and culture in its
periphery. Some of the best museums in mumbai are Jehangir Art
Gallery and INS Vikrant. Bhau Daji Lad Museum, Earlier known as
Victoria & Albert Museum is the oldest museum in Mumbai.
Indian Museum Calcutta:


The Indian Museum is one of the most famous museums in India and
The ninth oldest regular museum of the world. The Great museum
included history of the building and details of art collection. Kolkata is a
land of Museums. There are about seven museums in the city. It is not
only famous for treasure house of monuments, Bridges & holy places
but also for its museums. Kolkata is incomplete without a trip to its
museums, best museum in kolkata are Calcutta Museum also known as
Kolkata panorama, Victoria, Birla Museums, Shahid Minar and Nehru
Children Museum. One of the famous monuments in Kolkata is Nehru
Children Museum.
Salar Jung Museum Hyderabad:

 The 7 Wonders of Hyderabad include Salar Jung

Museum,which has an exquisite collection of
priceless articles like Ivory, Marble sculptures. Salar
Jung Museum is popular as largest one-man
collections Of the World, it is situated on the
southern bank of the river Musi. It is an art museum
with world’s largest collection of artifacts. Salar Jung
Museum is among the most important attraction in
Hyderabad.
The Calico Museum of Textiles
Ahmedabad:
 The Calico Museum of Textiles

stands out for its uniqueness and
antiquity of exhibits. This is one
of the finest textile museums in
the world, Situated in one of the
most beautifully, intricately
wooden-carved Haveli. The
Calico Textile Museum is the
premier textile museum of the
country and is the world’s best
museum on textiles. Some of
more Ahmedabad Attractions are
Gandhi Ashram, Sidi Bashir
Mosque and Hathee Singh Jain

Hawa Mahal
Museum



It is inside the confines of the HAWA MAHAL situated in Jaipur City. Built by Maharajah
Sawai Pratap Singh in 1799, it has a honeycomb structure just like the Palace itself with
the windows so made for the easy passage of air throughout the year. Famously known
as the Palace of Winds, it has thousands of small windows. If you look from outside,
from a distance, it looks like a beehive. It has been so made that the winds can come
and go through the Palace throughout the year keeping the Palace temprate as per the
changing seasons.



Manuscripts Gallery
It has the manuscripts from the olden days, placed here for display. From letters to the
Farmans (Royal order), everyone finds its place here.



City Palace
This Royal place of the yesteryears was the adobe of the Raja Sawai Singh Madho. With
its Brocades, courtyards and queens palace, its worth a visit. It also houses a Museum
which is worth a visit.
»Armory Gallery : From swords to knives, the war dress to the cutter, all remind of the
era gone by. Though now rusted there are still placed the main warriors which lead to
victory of many battles.



»Coin Gallery : As the kings came and went by, they left their mark in the form of the
coins directly from the mint. Coins of gold and silver with the inscriptions of the then
Kings make their way also in this age.

Karnataka Government Museum
 Situated in the Heart of the City of Bangalore, it
is the oldest Museum in the country. Established
in 1856, it stands there at the Kasturba Marg.

This Museum houses sandalwood crafts,
Rajasthani embroidery, and antiques from
Mohenjodaro and terracotta from Mathura. In
fact, the Karnataka Museum not only reflects the
Karnataka Culture, but it also has a collection of
the various arts from all over the Country. The
Karnataka Government Museum is one of the
best showcase of the heritage of Karnataka. It
represents the best and the unique.
Stock Palace Museum
 The beauty of Ladakh surpasses the beauty of any other

hilly place. Its rendezvous. The blue sky running up the cliffs
of the castle, suddenly turning into a mix of black and grey,
the herd of wild buffalow and yak running down the green
grassland, the monks moving in a line in dark golden yellow
color and the hills clad with snow. Its just amazing how
much colors can the nature put in its canvas. Its here in this
beautiful land of Ladakh, the Stock Palace Museum stands.

Its all about tankaras, Crowns, Jewels and Royal dresses. Its
just like the royal palaces we have read and herad about in
fairy tales. Just step into it and you will find all those lovely
characters coming out of it.
National Archives Museum
 The NATIONAL ARCHIVES is an entity of the office of

Department of Culture under the ministry of Tourism and Culture.
It is the depository of the old records of Govt. of India. The
documents kept here is for the use of the Administrators and the
scholars. But then it is also open for the Common man to see. It
has one of the oldest records of India, as old as when India was
known to the world as Bharat.
Its a reflection of the past and it projects the country with all its
developments. All the different facets of the country are
enclosed in the premises of the National Archives Museum. Its a
worth going place because of the sanctity it has.
Situated in at the Rajpath and Janpath junction near the Indira
Gandhi National Center for Arts and Culture it stands in the heart
of India - New Delhi.
The National Rail Museum







T This unique museum has a fascinating and exotic collection of
over 100 real size exhibits of Indian Railways. Static and working
models, signaling equipments, antique furnitures, historical
photographs and related literature etc. are displayed in the
museum. The line-up of old coaches includes the handsome
Prince of Wales Saloon, built in 1875. Not to be outdone is the
Maharaja of Mysore's Saloon built in 1899 with its brocade
covered chairs and an elegant rosewood bed; one can peer in
through the windows for a good look. National Rail Museum
The star attraction here is the Fairy Queen, built in 1855 and
considered to be one of the best preserved steam locomotive
engines of her age. A ride in joy train and mono rail, Patiala State
Monorail Trainways
(PSMT) is the most exciting experience besides boating. Do not
miss the handsome Fire Engine on your way out.
Main Exhibits
Patiala State Monorail Trainways, built by Maharaja Bhupinder
Singh: This unique steam monorail was built in 1907. This unusual
train is based on the "Ewing System", and connected Bassi with
Sirhind (approximate 6 miles). This was designed by Col. Bowles.
The unique train system consists of a track of single rail. This
mono track, the load-carrying wheel are run while one big iron
wheel at other side to balance it and to keep the train upright.

  • 2.  The museums of any country represent their past and history. The Indian Museums too present a part of India on their own. See the Indian History unfold itself in the unspoken walls of these museums which have the past closed in them. Here are the some of the most famous ones..  India is famous for its museum that proves the rich culture of the country. Museums of India are best to explore the people, culture, beliefs, and history of ancient India. Indian tour can’t be completed without its museums, museums of India are an archive of India’s history and government and archaeology. Museums are the treasure house of ancient documents, there are so many unique museums in India, I am on my way to explore them and will present in front of you very soon. Some of the unique museum in India are Museum of toilets,Bigfoot Cross,oil museum,Rail musuem and India’s first electricity museum etc.

From letters to the Farmans (Royal order), everyone finds its place here.  City Palace This Royal place of the yesteryears was the adobe of the Raja Sawai Singh Madho. With its Brocades, courtyards and queens palace, its worth a visit. It also houses a Museum which is worth a visit. »Armory Gallery : From swords to knives, the war dress to the cutter, all remind of the era gone by. Though now rusted there are still placed the main warriors which lead to victory of many battles.  »Coin Gallery : As the kings came and went by, they left their mark in the form of the coins directly from the mint. Coins of gold and silver with the inscriptions of the then Kings make their way also in this age. 

The Karnataka Government Museum is one of the best showcase of the heritage of Karnataka. It represents the best and the unique.

The blue sky running up the cliffs of the castle, suddenly turning into a mix of black and grey, the herd of wild buffalow and yak running down the green grassland, the monks moving in a line in dark golden yellow color and the hills clad with snow. Its just amazing how much colors can the nature put in its canvas. Its here in this beautiful land of Ladakh, the Stock Palace Museum stands. Its all about tankaras, Crowns, Jewels and Royal dresses. Its just like the royal palaces we have read and herad about in fairy tales. Just step into it and you will find all those lovely characters coming out of it.
  • 11. National Archives Museum  The NATIONAL ARCHIVES is an entity of the office of Department of Culture under the ministry of Tourism and Culture. It is the depository of the old records of Govt. of India. The documents kept here is for the use of the Administrators and the scholars. But then it is also open for the Common man to see. It has one of the oldest records of India, as old as when India was known to the world as Bharat. Its a reflection of the past and it projects the country with all its developments. All the different facets of the country are enclosed in the premises of the National Archives Museum. Its a worth going place because of the sanctity it has. Situated in at the Rajpath and Janpath junction near the Indira Gandhi National Center for Arts and Culture it stands in the heart of India - New Delhi.
  • 12. The National Rail Museum     T This unique museum has a fascinating and exotic collection of over 100 real size exhibits of Indian Railways. Static and working models, signaling equipments, antique furnitures, historical photographs and related literature etc. are displayed in the museum. The line-up of old coaches includes the handsome Prince of Wales Saloon, built in 1875. Not to be outdone is the Maharaja of Mysore's Saloon built in 1899 with its brocade covered chairs and an elegant rosewood bed; one can peer in through the windows for a good look. National Rail Museum The star attraction here is the Fairy Queen, built in 1855 and considered to be one of the best preserved steam locomotive engines of her age. A ride in joy train and mono rail, Patiala State Monorail Trainways (PSMT) is the most exciting experience besides boating. Do not miss the handsome Fire Engine on your way out. Main Exhibits Patiala State Monorail Trainways, built by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh: This unique steam monorail was built in 1907. This unusual train is based on the "Ewing System", and connected Bassi with Sirhind (approximate 6 miles). This was designed by Col. Bowles. The unique train system consists of a track of single rail. This mono track, the load-carrying wheel are run while one big iron wheel at other side to balance it and to keep the train upright.
