SOUL, BODY and OXYGEN
“A good Startup, like good life, needs a good SOUL: an idea, invention, innovation for a tangible market
need to create the business. And then, like a good soul must manifest itself through a healthy BODY;
business too can only sustain if it has a good team. Finally, and always, one needs OXYGEN – the
capital – to live and grow that body every minute”
• The soul, body and oxygen are the 3 essential and equal legs of a successful enterprise
• Having the 3 essentials is NOT a zero-sum game. They are 1/3, 1/3, 1/3; equal:
• More capital (oxygen) will not compensate for a poor body (team)
• No good team (healthy body) can commercialize if the product (soul) is bad
• A bad soul (poor idea or a dishonest entrepreneur) can not create a good business with any
degree of a healthy body or oxygen (i.e., top management with a lot of capital will fail too)
• Growth, Profitability and Long-term Sustainability rely on the 3 equal heights of the legs
• Taller the legs – better you are
•Otherwise, the life of a business & its performance will be accordingly skewed
• Over 80% of companies listed 60 yrs back on NYSE do not exist anymore
