OMAHA CHANUKAH PARADE ON WHEELS
THIS SUNDAY!
(Omaha, NE) -- “Light trumps darkness,” the message Sunday Dec. 13th, on the third
night of the 8-day Jewish holiday Chanukah. Beginning at 3:30 p.m., Jewish families shall
meet at the J.C.C. (tad south of 132nd & Dodge) parking lot, adorn vehicles with holiday
flags, before embarking on a police-escorted parade along Dodge Street – which wraps
at the Omaha Police Barn located on the ConAgra Campus, 615 Leavenworth.
Upon 4:30 p.m. arrival, a giant Menorah shall be lit while families recite in Hebrew - a
holiday prayer. Traditional potato pancakes called latkes (lot’-kus) shall be served. Fun
craft making - offered too.
“The Chanukah Car Parade is a fun way to teach children and the general public about
the holiday in a creative way,” notes Rabbi Mendel Katzman of Chabad of Nebraska. The
event is - free and open - to all.
Chanukah, a.k.a., the festival of lights, celebrates the liberation/rededication of the
ancient Jerusalem temple that an oppressive regime destroyed. In remembrance, families
add one candle each holiday night - to a Menorah. Families also exchange gifts.
Editor’s Note: Rabbi Katzman is available for interviews. For additional pre-event info feel
free to reach him via cell at 578-6724.
