How can the mobile devices learners carry around with them all day and already use for work, play, communication and socialisation be used in the service of language teaching?
First, define mobile learning (mLearning) and present data from a 2011 survey about mLearning and ELT. Then, the presentation reviews some examples of mLearning in action showing both high-resource and low-resource projects. Having now given the audience an APPetite for mobile learning, theoretical guidelines for implementing mLearning effectively in any teaching context are then presented. Finally, the audience will put theory into practice using the set of guidelines to evaluate the usefulness of any mobile learning app using four British Council LearnEnglish mobile apps as examples.
