WordPress: Measures for Secure Blogging
WordPress is a huge space, where from an individual to a big
organization can build their blog or website; manage their content (CMS) for
free and in very less time. Interestingly, more than 15% of the websites are
developed on WordPress (according to Matt Mullenweg); an open platform
where one can build their own blog or website. Another source states approx
a million sites are built in a month that adds in ongoing 65 million of accounts
on WordPress. It is certainly one of the favorite user platforms. The business
organizations, students, educational institutions, medical firms, sole
proprietor of a business, etc. wish to have a website on WordPress to multiply
their profit. However, more popular the site is there are more chances of
getting it hacked. Quite recently, WordPress based sites had a bad experience
of a hacking attack.
As it said that precaution is better than cure, the business organizations
who have a website on WordPress, can take few measures to protect their
sites from an unwanted guest or just being hacked. There are basic two ways
in which the WordPress based site can be hacked or attacked:
a. When the user is having older versions of the platform or plugins.
b. When the attacker gains access by using brute-force password
cracking.
Though, with such king of vulnerabilities, WordPress based sites are not
arranged to manage with these contingencies. But following the following
steps may protect your important information being leaked.
1. There are many Web hosting services available. It is advised to
select the hosting service, which is familiar with WordPress, who
can manage and permit the installation and plugins wisely.
2. Try to regularly apply the security updates provided by the
WordPress. The blog or website owner needs to install these
updates unavoidably.
3. Choose plugins with high download rating and also that its author
is in active support, and on the first place, try to use minimum
number of plugins to avoid any discrepancy in updating them.
4. Create a different user Id with admin rights, other than the default
admin user Id. Point your pages or posts to new one and delete
the older one.
5. Create a powerful password for the user Id.
Nevertheless, all the above mentioned points can be handled by a
WordPress specialist or a developer. Things can be made easier and time
saving by outsourcing WordPress specialist, who will develop effective
WordPress sites or blogs with accessible content management system (CMS).
Besides this, the outsourcing company need not have to worry about the
management of their site or pages. It is a very idea to outsource the work and
get a well developed, managed and maintained site for your business.
