Wanna know something?
Questions are powerful.
They help you nd.
They help you see.
They help you know.
They help you act.
And yet...
We don't ask
them enough.
(No, really.)
(We don't.)
Sometimes we're
scared of what we'll
       nd out.
That we'll give the
 elephant in the
  room a name.
(Something other than
   Jumbo, that is.)
We’re scared that
we'll have to actually
   do something
      as a result.
And we don't want to.
(Harumph.)
Sometimes, it just
  doesn't occur to us
that the easy question
(and the easy answer)
Was too easy.
And didn't actually help.
Was too easy.

It didn’t
move things forward.
Or close things down.
(Which is, ostensibly,
 why you asked the
question at all, right?)
But if you’re a leader?
A manager?
An entrepreneur?
A human?
Your success depends
   on questions.
How you ask.
What you ask.

And on the answers
   you accept.
Or rather, the answers
      you don't.
Your success depends
on asking what needs
     to be asked.
On asking the questions
     others won't.
Or don't.
Or don't even see.
Your success
   depends on
not accepting the
rst answer as nal.

never accepting
 "I don't know."

No, you need to go
 one step further.
You need to ask:
"Well, if you did know,
  what would the
    answer be?"
(Trust me on that one.
       It works.)
You need to ask the
  next question.
The one that's
uncomfortable.
The one that makes
    them think.
The one that makes
     you think.
And then?
You need to ask the
question after that.
And get answers.
Real ones. 
Answers that reveal
   motivation.
Answers that reveal
     intent.
Answers that reveal
    barriers.
Answers that reveal
  opportunities.
Answers that reveal
   knowledge.
Answers that reveal
   knowledge.
 (or lack thereof )
Answers that reveal
     vision.
Answers that reveal

 (or lack thereof )
You need answers that
  open new lines of
     questions.
Or close old ones.
You need to keep asking
    until there aren’t
  any more questions.
