Team Renegade presents an innovation called the Sat Visarjan Rath to address the problem of water pollution caused by the Ganesh Visarjan festival. The Rath (truck) carries clean water in tanks to immerse idols instead of using river water. This creates a positive attitude while still respecting religious sentiments. Benefits include cleaner lakes and water, as well as reduced traffic. The innovation scores highly based on Prahlad's Sandbox parameters. Moving forward, the idea could be scaled up nationally and applied to other festivals to further reduce pollution from idol immersions in a respectful manner.

3. Meet the Innovator
Innovation was brought
about by the local Rotary
Club
They enjoyed the support
of the industry
Now, the Government is
also trying to help
Innovator – Dr. Arjun Singh Mehta

6. Innovation – Business Plan
• A Rath is used for visarjan
of idols. This rath (truck)
carries clean water in
tanks.
• This has created a
positive attitude in
people’s minds as instead
of using dirty river water,
clean water is used for
immersion.

7. Innovation – Other Aspects
While immersion,
All cloth & decoration is
removed and sent for solid
recycling or disposal
POP of idol gets dissolved
in water and is disposed off
Toxic chemicals are
processed/purified with the
help of industrial partners
and accordingly disposed

9. SWOT Analysis
Strengths: Weakness:
> Simple Solution > Some very rigid religious followers might not gree
> Does not interfere with religious sentimements to immerse idols in a water tank
> Water is treated and solids are treated; helps
reduce water pollution
> Reduced Traffic as traffic goe sto people’s home
there is lesser traffic on the roads
Opportunity: Threats:
> The method can be scaled up for all of India > As the number of people celebrating the festival
> Similar methods can be used for immersion for other and bringing idols is increasing, managing the scale
festivals as well of the operation will be a problem in years to come
> The success of the Rath shows that people are willing
to switch to eco-friendly ways if their sentiments are
taken care of

12. What’s the way forward
The step is being taken forward in other cities as well for eg. Pune, Bangalore, etc.
But the spread of the idea needs to be m ore in states where the festival is
celebrated on a high scale.
Instead of Raths being employed, one can attempt to use only a section of the river
for the immersions. This section of the river can be treated before it is mixed with
the remaining water. This will help combat the reluctance of people who are
uncomfortable with the idea of immersions in a Rath
Create artificial lakes for idol immersion
This method of immersion should be used for all festivals where idols are immersed
eg. Nau Durga in Bengal.
Social media like FB, etc can be used for spreading awareness
Encourage companies to adopt lakes as part of their CSR activity
