Our team worked together on a Layer-wise Network Security project. The main goal of the project is to provide private networks a solution on external and internal security attacks. To provide a proper security model to the networks, we took 7 layered OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) model as a scale so that we can identify the attacks layer wise and give them a possible solution. In this way, whatever the threats to the network can be monitored and implemented easily.

Information is the heart of any business or industry.
Safe Guarding the data either it is a confidential or
personal data is the main objective in this project Layer
wise Network Security.
This project describes network security hardening at
each layer of OSI model in primary level using security
mitigation technics.
Some layers have more impact than others when
securing information. Together, they can be used to
build a comprehensive solution.
Project Description
3. 3
Physical layer threats are stopped by giving access to only authorized
persons in the industry and shutting down unwanted/unused ports.
LAN attacks are defended by securing the devices with physical protection
and cc camera surveillance and port security.
Telnet attacks are mitigated by updating the security with SSH protocol.
Layer 2 attacks like Mac Flooding is mitigated by giving Port Security i.e. Mac
Filtering.
Attacks like ICMP flooding is defended by stopping the ping process by
implementing the ACL in Layer 3 devices.
CDP which is a big threat if misused is disabled on edge routers and user
network and is given access to use CDP only for authorized persons like
Network Administrators.
Extended ACL’s are applied to mitigate the D Dos attacks like ICMP and ARP
flooding attacks.
App Layer attacks are defended by keeping all software's versions, drivers
and the firewalls updated.
