Green Economy, PBL and Video to VET - YESdigital European Project

Green Economy, PBL and Video to VET
Argument: The use of Problem Based-Learning (PBL) to solve problems and/or critical situations regarding
the development of a Green Economy it is an opportunity for VET students to discover and solve these
problems in a creative way. By finding the practical ways to link professional skills with green skills and
with real problem solving skills, we can help our students to become more active in the context of a new
Global Green Economy.
Aim: Increasing awareness, understanding and knowledge of the importance for developing green
skills concurrently with apllying digital skills, solving real problem skills and professional skills.
Objectives:
1. Developing digital skills (create short video materials/pictures, video editing, using
communication/collaboration online tools: emails, chat, collaborative documents, social networks,
etc).
2. Developing applied problem-solving skills.
3. Developing green skills in a real professional context.
Target group: VET teachers and VET students - at least 10 VET teachers and 30 VET students/each
country (10x5=50 VET teachers and 30x5=150 VET students/project)
Topics to be investigated:
1. Strategies for preserving natural resources used in various professional fields.
2. Innovative strategies and approaches for recycling the waste which comes from the activities of a
specific professional field.
3. Creative approaches for saving energy at work.
4. Applied strategies for promoting the use of sustainable energy: wind, solar, water (hydropower,
tidal power), geothermal, biomass
Deadline: 20 April 2014
Tangible results:
One digital video for each group of students at the same specialization. The digital video will illustrate a
solution to the problem proposed for investigation by the coordinating teacher
(at least 5 videos/country)
Activities/Recommendations:
1. The VET teachers who will participate on this practical activities with their VET students, will be
from the group of VET teachers participants on PBL & Video Workshops.
2. Each VET teacher will lead a group of 3-6 VET students
3. Each teacher will create a practical scenario about a problem from one of the themes proposed
to be investigated, using the PBL methodology recommendations.
4. Working time varies between 1-4 weeks, depending on the complexity of the problem
investigated.
5. Each teacher will identify effective ways to communicate with students to encourage their
involvement.
6. Each teacher will ensure that students have developed the skills needed for the digital video and
communication/collaboration.
7. Technical requirements for video:
- To comply with copyright in both the visual and music content.
- The length of the video will be between 1-3 minutes, but in justified cases can be till 5 minutes.
- The video will be uploaded on YouTube, under the terms of a Creative Commons license in the
YouTube account of a member from the group of students.
