Este documento explica el uso de la voz pasiva en inglés. Se utiliza la voz pasiva cuando se quiere dar más importancia al hecho que sucedió que a quién realizó la acción, o cuando no se sabe quién realizó la acción. La estructura básica de la voz pasiva es: sujeto + verbo to be + participio + objeto. Para cambiar una oración de voz activa a pasiva, se cambia el orden del sujeto y el objeto y se añade el auxiliar to be y el participio del verbo principal.

2. ¿CUÁNDO SE USA?
-Utilizamos la voz pasiva cuando queremos dar más importancia al hecho
que sucedió, que a quién realiza la acción o simplemente no queremos
decir quién la hizo. Ej:
The car was cleaned by Marta (Es más importante el hecho que el autor)
- También utilizaremos la voz pasiva cuando no sabemos quién ha hecho
la acción. Ej:
The bag was stolen (Ha sido robado pero no sabemos quién lo ha hecho)
IMPORTANTE:
No se puede usar la voz pasiva con verbos intransitivos (los que no llevan
Complemento Directo).

3. ESTRUCTURA DE LA VOZ PASIVA
Sujeto + Verbo TO BE + Verbo en Participio + Objeto
Por lo tanto, para pasar de voz activa a pasiva en
inglés, sólo hay que aplicar esta regla:
1. Cambiar el orden del sujeto por el del objeto
2. Añadir el auxiliar “to be” en el tiempo verbal de la
voz activa
3. Añadir el PARTICIPIO del verbo principal

4. Ejemplos de activa a pasiva con los distintos tiempos verbales:

6. Modals verbs: (must, can, should)
FORMACIÓN
SUJETO + VERBO MODAL + be + PARTICIPIO
-This book can be read.
-The balls should be prohibited in the park.
-The work must be improved.

7. ACTIVE INTO PASSIVE
Examples:
1.-Marta is writing the letter.
The letter is being written by Marta.
2.-Peter sings a song.
A song is sung by Peter.
3.-Fleming invented the penicillin.
The penicillin was invented by Fleming.
4.-My mother has cooked some biscuits.
Some biscuits has been cooked by my mother.
5.-Your sister will drink this beer.
This beer will be drunk by your sister.
