Occupational Test User
This course fulfills the BPS requirements to award ‘Occupational test user: Ability and
Personality certification’ (previously known as Level A and B). Trainees gain the key skills
and knowledge needed to effectively use and administer psychometric tests in the
workplace. Delegates will also receive training in the professional use of Talent Q’s
Elements and Dimensions suite of assessments.
The BPS are the international benchmark for quality in the use of psychometric assessments. Psychometrics are used
by all of the Fortune top 500 companies to support their talent management initiatives and have been proven to add
great value when used by appropriately trained personnel.
Course contents
1. Assessing Ability at Work:
Here, we cover the essentials of psychological testing, historical and contemporary perspectives on ability testing in the workplace, job
analysis techniques, fairness and diversity in testing and advances in adaptive testing techniques.
2. Personality at Work:
This covers the theories that inform our understanding of personality, the various methods used to assess personality in the workplace
and the background to the Dimensions personality questionnaire. It also illustrates the importance of fairness and diversity in assessment
and the key responsibilities of the assessment practitioners.
3. Psychometric Theory:
This part of the course covers the fundamentals of psychometric theory, including the statistical concepts that underpin all psychometric
assessments. These statistics help us to understand test results and enable us to evaluate the overall usefulness and appropriateness
of any given test.
4. Practitioner Skills:
The final part of the course focuses on developing the practical skills required to be an effective practitioner. This includes the adminis-
tration, interpretation and feedback of Talent Q’s Elements ability tests (verbal, numerical and logical reasoning). Course assessment is
via a combination of coursework exercises completed at home and a final face-to-face test in additional to demonstration of practical
administration and feedback skills.
3. Nic Cutts C.Psychol AFBPsS MSCP
Nic Cutts is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist originally from the UK but currently based
in the UAE. He has been working and consulting in the region for over 4 years. During this time
he has developed a good understanding for many of the issues we encounter when applying
psychometric tools in the Middle East. As a practitioner psychologist, consultant, and trainer Nic
uses psychometrics on a daily basis, trains to an international audience and is regularly invited to
speak/present on psychometrics and related areas. He applies psychometrics to much of his pro-
fessional activities including executive coaching, selection, development & succession planning .
Nic has delivered the BPS certificate in occupational testing to over 500 delegates, over a 10 year
period, as well as having delivered training on many of the most popular psychometrics in the
market today (Hogan, MBTI, Saville, 15FQ+).
Nic values independence of choice for professionals using psychometrics. As such, his approach
is flexible and he is happy to discuss his delegates’ needs and provide guidance and support for their ongoing use of psychometrics,
whilst meeting the requirements for certification. In promoting independence of choice, Nic has no ‘favoured psychometric’ and instills
the knowledge in delegates to select and choose the most appropriate psychometric assessment to meet their individual requirements.
