2. Shot 1 - 0:06
In this shot the camera passes past the shape of 2 musical instruments, in this
case guitars, according to Barry Keith grant the shot of the guitars is a
recognizable characteristic of the musical genre of rock , therefore fitting into
well and it gives the audience an indication or a hint towards what is going to
be in the rest of the video.
3. Shot 2 – 0:12
In this shot someone is being shown playing a guitar , with the close up shot
used on the guitar makes the center of attention , this follows Jason Mittell's
theory of using the genre to sell the product , in this case the guitar is shown
to show the audience that it is a rock based song/video , therefore selling it
better to fans of that particular genre.
4. Shot 3 – 0:28
In this shot the camera is mainly focused on the vocalist or the main face of
the band , this particular shot supports Andrew Goodwin's theory of record
company's demanding alot of close up shots of the main artist or in this
case the lead vocalist.
5. Shot 4 – 0:40
In this shot the camera uses a wide medium shot which is able to
capture the full band inside of it , this fits in with a common
convention of the rock genre , the convention is that in the videos
the full band is normally shown to increase the atmosphere and
convince the audience that this is a rock video.
6. Shot 5 – 0:42
In this shot a visual filter is used to give the video a vintage feel to it , perhaps
referencing to the older styles of the rock genre , this would have been used
during the post production of the video , it also gives it a slight grainy feel to it
which once again references to the older rock videos.
7. Shot 6 – 1:30
Another visual filter from the post production stage of the video is
used again in this shot , however this is different to the previous filter
used in the video as it make it seen that the video itself has been
recorded on a old fashioned film reel once again referencing to the
older styles in the genre of rock.
8. Shot 7 – 2:24
In this shot the main colour theme used is black , this is the main
conventional colour for the heavier kinds of rock , because of this it
symbolizes to the audience that this is going to be a heavier kind of
rock.
9. Shot 8 – 2:27
In this shot the camera shows another close up of the instrument , his
once again supports Jason mittell theory of using the genre
conventions or the genre characteristics to sell the product.
10. Shot 9 – 3:22
In this shot the camera shows that the location of the set is in an
isolated place in which the band performing inside , this also
references to the older styles of rock videos which mainly consisted
of just the band playing.
