Anastrozole tablets (Anazole) is used for the treatment of
breast cancer in hormone receptor positive post-menopausal
women. It is also used for adjuvant
treatment of early breast cancer in hormone receptor
positive postmenopausal women who have received 2 to 3
years of adjuvant Tamoxifen as well as reduction in the
incidence of contralateral breast cancers in post
menopausal women receiving Anastrozole tablets as
adjuvant treatment for early breast cancer.

Active Ingredient
The active pharmaceutical ingredient
contained in Anazole tablets is
Anastrozole.
Each 1 mg tablet of Anazole contains
1mg Anastrozole.

Recommended Dosage
➔ Adults:
➔One tablet (1 mg) of Anastrozole tablets (Anazole)
has to be taken orally once a day. Anastrozole can
be taken with or without food.

Contraindications
Generic Anastrozole Tablets
(Anazole) is contraindicated in
patients with the following conditions:
➔Known hypersensitivity to Anastrozole or any
inactive ingredient of this medication.
➔Anastrozole tablets (Anazole) should not be used in
pregnant or lactating women.

Side Effects of Anastrozole Tablets (Anazole)
The most common possible side effects of
Anastrozole Tablets occurring in 1% or more of
the patients are Hot flushes, Gastrointestinal
upsets including nausea and diarrhoea,
Headache, Rash, Loss of hair, Vaginal dryness,
Asthenia, joint pain or stiffness, Carpal Tunnel
Syndrome, Increases in alkaline phosphatase,
alanine aminotransferase and aspartate
aminotransferase.

Warnings And Precautions
➔Anastrozole is not recommended for use in children or in
pre-menopausal women as safety and efficacy have not
been established in these groups of patients.
➔In women with pre-existing ischemic heart disease, an
increased incidence of ischemic cardiovascular events
occurred with Anastrozole use compared to Tamoxifen
use. Consider risks and benefits.
➔Increases in total cholesterol may occur in patients
administered Anastrozole. Consider cholesterol monitoring.

Warnings And Precautions
➔As Anastrozole lowers circulating oestrogen levels it
may cause a decrease in bone mineral density with a
possible consequent increased risk of fracture.
Studies have showed that patients receiving
Anastrozole tablets (Anazole) had a mean decrease
in both lumbar spine and total hip bone mineral
density (BMD) compared to baseline. Consider bone
mineral density monitoring.
➔Anastrozole tablets (Anazole) has not been
investigated in patients with severe hepatic or severe
renal impairment. The potential risk/benefit to such
patients should be carefully considered before
administration of Anastrozole tablets.

Anastrozole Overdose
Clinical trials have been conducted with a range of
doses of Anastrozole tablets, up to 60 mg in a single
dose given to healthy male volunteers and up to 10
mg daily given to post-menopausal women with
advanced breast cancer; these dosages were well
tolerated. A single dose of Anastrozole tablets that
results in life-threatening symptoms has not been
established.
Acute toxicity was seen in animals at a dose
greater than 45 mg/kg (equivalent to 2.7 g).

10. Anastrozole Tablets
Overdose Treatment
There is no specific antidote to overdosage and
treatment must be symptomatic. In the
management of an overdose, consider that
multiple agents may have been taken.
Vomiting may be induced if the patient is alert.
Dialysis may be helpful because Anastrozole is
not highly protein bound. General supportive
care, including frequent monitoring of vital signs
and close observation of the patient, is
indicated.
