Betnovate Cream is a topical
corticosteroid, which is applied to the
skin. Betnovate is a soft, white cream
with a faint odour of chlorocresol. It is
available in 0.1% strength in a 20 g
tube.

Indications
Betnovate Cream is used to treat various
inflammatory skin conditions, including
eczema, psoriasis, insect bite reactions,
chronic itchy skin, recurring scaly rash,
dermatitis, contact sensitivity reactions and
allergies. It is often used where there is or
may be an infection, as well as inflammation
and as an additional treatment for an intense
widespread reddening and inflammation of
the skin

6. Betnovate Cream
Do not use Betnovate Cream to treat the following skin
conditions:
➔Rosacea (unusual reddening of the nose and
cheeks)
➔Peri-oral dermatitis (a skin condition involving
the mouth area)
➔Viral skin conditions e.g. herpes, chickenpox
➔Fungal or yeast skin infections eg. candidiasis,
tinea
➔Bacterial skin infections e.g. impetigo
➔Ulcerative conditions
➔Skin conditions around the anal or genital areas
including genital herpes

7. Betnovate Cream
Recommended Dosage
A small quantity of Betnovate
Cream should be applied to the
affected area once or twice daily
until improvement occurs. If
required, cover the area with a dry
dressing.

Contraindications
➔Hypersensitivity to any ingredient of
the preparation.
➔Rosacea and acne vulgaris
➔Perioral dermatitis, perianal and genital
pruritus
➔Viral infections of the skin (e.g. herpes
simplex, chickenpox)
➔Gravitational ulcers
➔Tuberculosis of the skin

9. Betnovate Cream
Overdosage
➔Percutaneous absorption of
corticosteroids can occur when large
amounts of corticosteroids are applied or
when occlusive dressings are used.
➔ Toxic effects may include ecchymosis,
peptic ulceration, hypertension, delayed
wound healing, decreased resistance to
infection, hirsutism, acne, oedema and
muscle weakness.

Possible Side Effects
Side effects of Betnovate Cream even
if they occur, are most likely to be
minor and temporary.
The most common side effects are
skin rash, dryness, redness, hot or
burning sensation and itching.

Possible Side Effects
Inform your doctor or health care provider
immediately if you notice any of the
following symptoms:
➔Wheezing, swelling of the lips/mouth, difficulty in
breathing, hayfever, lumpy rash (hives) or fainting
➔Worsening of symptoms
➔Skin pigmentation changes
