Generic Zofran Tablets (Emeset) are used to
help stop the nausea (sick feeling) and vomiting,
which can occur after certain treatments such as
chemotherapy and radiotherapy. They are also
used for nausea and vomiting, which can occur
after an operation.

2. Generic Zofran Tablets
Active Ingredient
The active pharmaceutical ingredient present
in Generic Zofran Tablets is Ondansetron
Hydrochloride Dihydrate. Ondansetron HCl
Dihydrate is a white to off-white powder that
is soluble in water and normal saline.

Indications
Prevention of nausea and vomiting
associated with initial and repeat
courses of emetogenic cancer
chemotherapy.
Prevention of postoperative nausea
and/or vomiting.

5. Generic Zofran Tablets
Dose Strength
Generic Zofran (Emeset) is available
in tablets of 4 mg and 8 mg.
Each 4 mg Emeset Tablet for oral
administration contains Ondansetron
HCl Dihydrate equivalent to 4 mg of
Ondansetron.
Each 8 mg Emeset Tablet for oral
administration contains Ondansetron
HCl Dihydrate equivalent to 8 mg of
Ondansetron.

6. Generic Zofran Tablets
Recommended Adult Dosage
Emetogenic Chemotherapy and
Radiotherapy:
The recommended oral dose is 8 mg
one to two hours before treatment,
followed by 8 mg orally 12 hours later.
The recommended oral dose is 8 mg to
be taken twice daily.

Recommended Adult Dosage
Post-Operative Nausea and Vomiting:
For prevention of post-operative
nausea and vomiting, the
recommended oral dose is 16 mg
given one hour prior to anaesthesia.

8. Generic Zofran Tablets
Contraindications
Generic Zofran Tablets are
contraindicated in the following cases:
➔The concomitant use of apomorphine with
Ondansetron HCl is contraindicated.
➔Generic Zofran is contraindicated in
patients that have a hypersensitivity to
Ondansetron Hydrochloride or any inactive
ingredient of the medicine.

Side Effects of Generic Zofran Tablets
The most common side effects
of Generic Zofran in adults are
diarrhea, headache, a
sensation of warmth or flushing,
constipation, hiccups and fever.

10. Generic Zofran Tablets
Side Effects of Generic Zofran Tablets
Inform your doctor immediately in case you
notice any of the following rarely occurring
serious side effects
'wheezy' symptoms
Chest pain or tightness of chest
Changes in the way your heat beats. In case
you notice it beating faster or slower than
normal or if it beats irregularly or if it 'throbs'

Side Effects of Generic Zofran Tablets
Disturbance in heart rhythm (sometimes causing
sudden loss of consciousness)
Low blood pressure
Fits or convulsions
Swelling of the eyelids, face, lips, mouth or throat
which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing
Skin rash, skin lumps or hives
Problems with muscles or movement
These are all serious side effects. You may need
urgent medical attention.

12. Generic Zofran Tablets
Warnings And Precautions
➔Hypersensitivity reactions including
anaphylaxis and bronchospasm, have
been reported in patients who have
exhibited hypersensitivity to other
selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonists.
➔Avoid Generic Zofran in patients with
congenital long QT syndrome.

13. Generic Zofran Tablets
Overdosage
A specific antidote for Ondansetron
Hydrochloride overdose is not
available.
Patients should be managed with
appropriate supportive therapy.
Hypotension and faintness occurred in
a patient who took 48 mg of Zofran
Tablets.
