5. Story 1: What was life like before the Berlin Wall? Story 2: What was life like with the wall? Story 3: What was life like when the wall was removed? TARGET QUESTIONS!
6. On Thursday, November 9th, 1989, over 28 years after the Berlin Wall was built, the Berlin Wall was tore down. There were many sounds of heavy machines, giant drill, and everyone cheered and was happy about the wall being tore down, it was a very happy moment. People traveled from all over Europe to witness this happening.
7. Berlin presidents have spent over $17 billion each year in order to make Berlin a better place to live. They have spent money building new roads, museums, entertainment places, and other attractions that will attract people in order to cover up its un-popular reputation. LIFE AFTER THE WALL!
8. GROUP’S POINT OF VIEW As a group, we believe that life was much better for the people of East and West Berlin after the wall was removed rather than before or while the wall was there. Before the wall was built, Germany had just lost WWII, and the fact that their leader, Adolf Hitler, had committed suicide, the economy and reputation of the country’s strength started to decrease. Because of this, life was not better for people before the wall was up. Even though they still had the freedom to go in and out of West and East Berlin, the economy and shape of the country was still in ruins. Although the wall caused a lot of grief and suffering for many people, even the death of 177, we believe that the wall was still necessary. After researching, we found that this WAS the ONLY solution to prevent war. Instead of letting the people decide, the government of East Germany took the liberty of building the wall. Even though this was in-humane, it still prevented a civil war within Germany, or even a third World War.
9. CONCLUSION! Almost 30 years after the Berlin Wall had been built, it was finally tore down. The destruction of a wall became a reality to the dreams of all people living in East and West Berlin. For three decades, the people of East Berlin were treated as prisoners in their own country. They had no freedom, no rights to visit other countries; they were trapped. The only way for these people to achieve their right again was for the wall to be tore down. Many people had to suffer for this dream to come true, but in 1989, the wall fell. The Berlin Wall will always be a very famous Cold War icon, and everyone will be reminded that it once stood.
