De oppervlakte- en grondwaterkwaliteit in Vlaanderen evolueert niet overal even snel en voldoende. Omwille
van deze regionale verschillen, dient de gebiedsgerichte aanpak van het vijfde mestactieprogramma
2015-2018 (MAP5) in uitvoering van de Nitraatrichtlijn, verder te worden uitgediept, waarbij strengere
maatregelen kunnen opgelegd worden voor de bedrijven in gebieden met een onvoldoende waterkwaliteit.
Voor een wetenschappelijke onderbouwing is het belangrijk om te weten welk type regio’s gevoelig zijn voor
nitraatverontreiniging en is het nodig om effecten van maatregelen modelmatig te kunnen doorrekenen,
teneinde de juiste gebiedsgerichte maatregelen te kunnen voorstellen.
