Originally a software engineer, developing mainframe applications in Cobol, Gary became a client-server software architect, designing and leading the implementation of several large (10,000 clients plus) applications. After a brief rest as IT and membership manager for the Royal Yachting Association (a membership organisation with close to 200,000 members) he joined Ovum to run the company's application development practice. From there he took over Ovum's middleware practice and ran the company's research organisation in Boston for two years. In his last two years at Ovum Gary worked as a Research Director.
