Pros And Cons Of College Essay
As pounded in our heads by teachers and adults, after high school the best idea is to go to college.
This may not be the case for everyone. There are many pros and cons for college. College is not for
everyone, and I believe students should have the freedom to choose the path they take. For people
who desire to acquire a well paying job, a degree may be required. Most data points that the fastest
growing job categories require at least a college degree. Getting a degree can be as simple as going
for 2 years or even 6. Getting a college degree will draw employers attention and gain respect.
Some people who have a degree may get paid more at their job than others who do not. Expanding
your knowledge is important as there is always more to learn. In my opinion, college is the best idea
for any age student.
When planning your future, you can decide between a two–year community college or a four–year
university. You can base your decision depending on your career field or job you want to pursue.
Some jobs may not even require a degree, in which college is unnecessary. Some jobs may only
require an associate's degree, so why waste your money at a university. Some may say that the
experience at a four–year university is critical to growing up. Mr. Perlstein states, "the college
experience– a rite of passage as it was meant to be– must have come to an end." Rick Perlstein
believes that the four–year experience is meaningful. At a four–year, you may experience more
diversity, and

College Admissions Essay: What Is College?
What is college?
In my life I had failed over thousands of times. From my first attempt to ride a bike, falling and
getting an ugly scar on my right knee or my first time entering a PokГ©mon tournament, getting
eliminated in the first round. Even through these failures, I never felt discouraged. I got on my
cousin bike the next and I entered many other PokГ©mon tournaments afterwards. My failures
motivate me to try even harder and try to succeed the next time around. Always giving it all I got
and a little more. One of my greatest failures that I had in my life was not taking school serious,
more specifically my freshmen and sophomore math and history classes' in high school. This misstep
had taught me two major things that are important to have in this world, a college education, asking
for help. These lesions that I learn helped me mature and prosper as individual....show more content...

to this country chasing the American dream of having a better life. They came with hope of
giving my sibling and I a better life, a chance to become something more. I had failed to realize
this at first; I was more caught up in trying to fit in with the crowd and getting in trouble. It wasn't
until late second semester of sophomore year did I realize my mistake. I was failing my common
core 2–math class (which I passed with a low D) and I saw my high school transcript. I felt such
disappointment and selfishness'; I had not only failed my parents but also failed myself. I was
denying myself what billons of people such as my parents wish they had, a chance to prosper.

My Experience In A College Class
"Welcome Class to Composition one." Those words were voiced by my professor, Mrs.
Robinson, on the first day of school. Initially, I thought to myself, do I even belong in this college
course class. Before school had even begun, the stress over the summer about my English skills
was eating me alive. Why? Well, in my past English classes I received A's on all of my essays, but
this college class did not seem so easy. Also, I was always fascinated by all the arts and sciences,
but English never struck interest in me. I never thought that I could write any decent essays. The
reason I insecure about my writing skills was because of the ACT. Since the ACT is the talk about
how smart an individual is, my ACT score was not very high. As the course continued, the firstessay
approached quickly. I remember being stressed about this essay because of my writing
insecurities. Although I managed to acquire a decent grade, I promised myself to strive to make
myself a better writer. I started to read Norton Field Guide to Writing handbook also known as the
yellow book, and slowly but surely started to develop knowledge of good writing skills and tips to
improve my essays. This allowed me to grow as a writer and slowly my insecurities started to
dwindle, and I began to gain confidence in myself. I never would've thought that the next time I
took the ACT that my English score would be my highest. When getting my score back and
realizing that I had improved so much, I began to wonder how I

College Admissions Essay: The LGBT Community
College Essay Throughout my life I have experienced many things that have molded me into the
person I am today, but the one I find most profound involves my coming out as a member of the
LGBT+ community. As a child I suffered tremendously with confusion, self hatred, and
misunderstanding about my own sexuality. Growing up queer in a small town is never an easy
thing. I went through years of denial, and hid all of my thoughts about what I thought could be. I
was so muddled in an all too common train of thought that my first conclusion was that I was
incapable of loving another human being. Having never experienced honest crushes or any
emotional or physical attraction to the opposite sex, I was very frightened for my ability to one day
have a family. This thought put me into a mode of paranoia and panic. I began to search any place
I could for any other possibility, hoping for some form of medication or therapy to ail me of what
I thought was a mental illness. After only a few minutes at the computer, I realized there was
nothing wrong with my mind, or capability to love. I am just gay. After this realization, I was still
confused and upset as to why I am the way that I am. I questioned if that was actually the solution or

was distraught. She still loved me, but was heartbroken by the fact that I didn't turn out to be the

My Decision to Enroll in College Essay examples
My decision to enroll in college has been one that I have been pondering for the last three decades.
During my last year of high school, I met a friend who was surprised that was not planning on
enrolling at the local community college. As I've matured and joined the United States Marine
Corps, I had an opportunity to start my college journey. Surprisingly, that was in 1978. From 1978
to 2009 my journey took me to my midpoint and I received my Associates Degree. The thrill of
receiving that Associates degree motivated me to start on my undergraduate journey. There were
several reasons why I decided to start this journey in addition to the thrill and it ranges from making
new friends, preparing for new career, learn new skills, and most...show more content...
One of the benefits, if not the most significant one, is tawision wision sion taorsion assistance. Let's
now look at what I hope to gain from the experience of attending college.
What do you hope to gain from the experience? In addition to validating my understanding of the
principles of EM, I hope to gain a feeling of accomplishment. Holding down a full–time job and
having a family to support while still pursuing a degree will provide a feeling of great
accomplishment. If all goes well, my goal of receiving my undergraduate degree in three years
will be met. The satisfaction of receiving a degree could be described as priceless. In addition, the
excitement of challenge myself each week, each month, each semester, each year will keep me
focused on the goal of receiving a degree in EM.
What qualities or skills do you have that make you suitable for studying in a technological age?
Anyone that has started on the journey to receive a baccalaureate degree has to have several basic
competencies to be successful. Just a few of them are computer literacy, maturity, and personal
motivation. Let's look at each in detail. Computer literacy is one of the most important attributes to
being successful in this technology advanced age. American Military University (AMU) is

at AMU. Fortunately for me, I grew up as the maturity

How will college change my life
"How will college change my life?" Colleges are institutions of higher learning; I would go to
college simply to make more money. College could be described as a rite of passage, where future
working men and women step out from sheltered childhood lives into an independent place of
learning. It is different from the original schooling most children receive as there is a more in–depth
workload that requires more studying. College will change my life as I am open to many fields of
study, expanding my mind and giving a glimpse of what to expect when I step out into the working
world. Flexibility with learning and providing me with the option to choose what interests me, being
treated as an adult by taking responsibility for one's own actions...show more content...
As college students, we as students must have a fierce ambition to accomplish a balance between
a healthy, steady social life and a bright academic future. Communication is an important tool in
life, not just inside college that broadens our horizons and makes us more intelligent generally.
The future working men and women who enter college are adults and will be treated as such. An
adult is one who has matured to know what is right and what is wrong. The importance of a rule
is a line between right and wrong that many places including colleges have as a guiding tool.
College students who enter are expected to follow rules as the rules are meant to protect us and set
a guideline. Adults also know how to be self–sufficient, being able to do their work, without anyone's
help or stealing someone else's work: plagiarism. College is where we are expected to perform to the
best of our abilities because as students we have a fierce ambition to get ahead by earning a degree.
College is a chance to be free and is a bridge between the real world and school. I'm an adult and
expected to behave as such; I make my own choices where I have to decide what is important to
me. I have an opportunity to learn how the world works, to explore the limitless possibilities and a
chance to admire how vast knowledge can be. College will change my life in the way that I can
develop life skills outside academics, to be fully

Personal Growth in College Essay
So far, the college experience has made me a changed person. College changed me into a better
person on many occasions. I have learned to be more responsible, when it comes down to getting
work done. In college you must be responsible. I have also changed my attitude. Moving from high
school to college is a big step; if you don't change your ways for the better then you might not be
successful in college. When you reach college then is the time that you become an adult.
First off, the college life has changed me for the better. I am much more responsible in many
different ways. I had to change my study habits, or should I say I have to get study habits. I high

That's just one example, there are many more. Another reason college is a big step is because you're
on your own, and you don't have nobody to tell you what to do, you make your own decisions when
it has to deal with getting up early in the morning to go to class, you have your parents or anyone to
wake you up, it's a big step, you just have to stay focus.
Third of all, you have to change your attitude toward school. You have to want to finish school;
you have to think about the money you are spending to go to school. For example you are paying
for every class you take and if you fail a class then you are paying for the same class again. College
is a major step from high school. I personally wasn't ready for college, but this being my second
year I understand what I have to do to finish school. I understand more and more why education is
a major issue in life, especially a college education. Entering college you have to change your game
plan to get where you want to be in life.
In conclusion, the college experience has made me a changed person. It has made me a changed
person for the better. I have learned a lot, I have learned responsibility. Without responsibility in
college you will not make very far. You must get your work done, and be punctual. You must make
the right decisions, don't let peer pressure get to you, try to avoid it. Don't let college change you for
the worst, take advantage of

What Does A College Education Mean To Me Essay
I live in an impoverished town, with a 40% increase this year in opioid deaths, where the education
system pumps under–educated teens onto the streets they came from, with no chance of a job. Many
parents and adults do not care, know, or understand the value of a college education.
This is my reality. Just as it does not define who I am or what I want to be, neither do my SAT scores.
We neither have nor can afford private SAT or ACT tutors. No one tells us to start preparing for
college, even as seniors. My SAT training was me, myself, and I studying between jobs and after
homework, whenever and wherever I could find a quiet place. Consequently, I have SAT scores
that do not reflect all I know. There is no word for how frustrating this is, least of all unfair....show

I was out of place, a quiet girl whose clothing was obviously not fashionable, lucky if she had a bag

easy target. My chaotic home life was never conducive to good grades, or school for that matter. No
one I knew was a role model and no one volunteered to step up to be one. With no social life and a
toxic home life, my grades plummeted before they had a chance to climb.
As the freshman year concluded, I saw the writing on the wall. I started making the seismic shift
that put me on my path to success to become a top college graduate. Summer residents helped me
gain confidence in who I was and take control of my life. While others still bully me every day it

I found places to go, things to do, and made an effort to speak with people who would value

I realized I am strong and resilient, and nothing is going to stop me from obtaining my goal of

Today's world economies are so tied together and react to one another that only the brightest and
smartest will survive. The better educated a student is in the specific career that they have chosen to
earn a degree in will give them the educated edge so that they can out compete with foreign markets.
President Barack Obama said "In this kind of economy, countries who out–educate us today will
out–compete us tomorrow. Already, China is graduating eight times as many engineers as we are.
By 12th grade, our children score lower on math and science tests than most other kids in the

that the graduating student can better compete in the world market Asian countries are continuously
outperforming American students. Gary W. Phillips, chief scientist at the American Institutes of

are winning the race to prepare students in math and science," (Dillon). The better colleges prepare

Reflective Essay on College Writing
Reflective Essay on College Writing
This semester was my very first semester as a college student. Being the first, it was probably the
semester I would learn the most in. I learned the expectations for writing that I will have to live up
to for the next four years of my college career. Though my high school teachers were usually
demanding because I was in the Honors English section throughout high school, writing in college
has still ?raised the bar? for me. Also, in high school, we would have weeks to pick a topic, create a

not quite as lenient. I?ve had to learn to manage my time and be more productive with what free

I definitely learned a great deal from our discussions about this book. I really did not like it at all
until the class sat down and analyzed the many levels Conrad addressed in his story. I thought the
endless paradoxes in the book, once brought to light, were actually very interesting. My favorite
section, however, was the poetry unit. I really enjoyed the poem ?The Blues? by Billy Collins the
most because of my respect for music. I think Collins really makes a point in his poem about just
how important music is and how it allows people who are very different to connect on many
levels. I also loved ?Love Calls Us to the Things of This World? by Richard Wilbur. The imagery
in this poem was absolutely amazing, and I adored how he made the ordinary things seem mystical
with his words. I loved how the laundry became angels. If only we could look at the world from
that point of view more often, it would be a much happier place.
The criticisms in college have even been somewhat enjoyable and interesting to read. I think I
began to like the stories and poems we read in class more and more as we discussed them and
looked at different authorities? opinions. I found a lot of the information in the databases very
useful. For the Antigone research project, the JSTORS database gave me hundreds of articles
dealing with my topic. I could narrow down what I was looking for and find numerous

Why I Chose When Attending A Small College
Most colleges/universities in the world are overpriced and it takes not only a lot of money, but
also perfect grades and exceptional extracurriculars to be able to get into them and pursue the
career you want. Smaller colleges are expensive as well, but not as overpriced like all the big
colleges. I would prefer to attend a small college in a small town. For example, I chose to attend
West Hills Coalinga because I thought it would be a great experience since it is a small college; I
come from a small town, therefore I would fit in better there than in a big school. West Hills
Coalinga has the same opportunities all colleges have, but not only that, you can save yourself
many personal and financial expenses as well. Going to a college in a big city is going to be
overpriced because in a big city everything is really expensive including housing, but if I were to

feel as though I did not belong like I would in the big city. I would feel more comfortable attending a
small college coming directly from a small high school. A lot of people say that you have better
opportunities going to a big college than going to a small college, but I believe attending a small
town college is better at least for me. There would be less distractions, less, expenses, less problems,
and I would not feel as far from home. You can still meets new people, make friends faster, and get

My Personal Goals as a Student Essay
My Personal Goals as a Student
An obvious goal as a working adult returning to school is, of course, to earn a degree. My overall
goal is no different than any other student, however, I also have several personal goals I hope to
achieve while attending the University. Some of these goals are to acquire new skills and enhance
my current business abilities, to apply what I learn in the classroom to forward my career, and to
feel personal satisfaction of finishing something I started. Already having experience in the business
world has proven to me that it is essential to have skills to maintain and improve daily functions.

By just going through the motions of coming to work everyday, only getting done what has to be
done, and going home at the end of the day, one might realize that an everyday routine can quickly
turn into a mundane professional life. At the same time, if a person does all of these things, but
shows a bit of initiative to gain more knowledge of the job, they may see an opportunity to
slightly move up in the company. The latter is my situation. My experience and knowledge of my
department and its systems have afforded me the opportunity to move up within the department
over the past five years, but I'm beginning to see a limit of how far those skills alone will allow
me to climb. Being an expert in my field of pharmaceutical benefits doesn't translate into managing
personnel just as knowing how to complete a task doesn't mean I'm able to give a clear
presentation on how it should be done. Sure, I've been rewarded for the work I've done and
knowledge I've obtained, but at some point, my employer will eventually see that more is needed to
continue to promote me to higher, more management focused positions. My goal is to complete these
courses and obtain my degree to prove that, if the situation arises, I can be the right person for the
job. A more personal goal of mine is to finish what I've started. After high school,

My Life As A College Student Essay
Over the course of the last semester, I grew tremendously, not just as a writer but as a student. I
learned skills and tactics that will last me throughout my life and will benefit me once I begin the
next four years of my life as a college student. This early gateway into college writing provided me
with exposure to the expectations that I will face in the college classroom. This will come in
handy in the English classroom, as well as in every subject I will face over the course of the next
four years, and beyond. Writing is a key skill that communicates ideas and information, and is
essential to being successful. Whether I go into the music industry or find myself in a
completely unforeseen career, it is certain that I will use my writing skills at some point. This
class sharpened those skills and prepared me for the future in ways no high school english class
could. This class has challenged me to think more in depth than I ever have before. It forced me to
use my writing as a means of expressing knowledge, ideas, and facts in a clear organized manner. In
order to accomplish the goals of each paper assigned, I found new ways to present the same
information. For example, in every essay I included the theme that governments should be more
involved in the fight against cyber warfare. However, I presented this idea in each paper in different
forms. In the summary, I simply stated what an author of a certain article had to say about this idea.

According to Lupien, McEwan, Gunnar, and Heim (2009), going off to college involves significant
adjustments to their daily routines; sleeping and eating habits, time–management skills, and stress
levels will be altered in one way or another. First–year students have to adjust to the new school
environment, different social settings, and new schedules, all without the help and guidance from
their parents, who have been there for them for eighteen years. Over 30% of college freshman
report that they feel overwhelmed (Klainberg, Ewing, & Ryan, 2010), where some students even
opt to work as they juggle their class and work schedules. Some students work at a job or study
harder than others, but they are all trying to get degrees so maybe one day they will have
meaningful and significant lives. It is a constant struggle for everyone who is trying desperately to
make him or herself into a success. And every college student wants to be involved in society in a
positive manner, allowing contribution of their ideals and values to others. Stress in college is
caused by many other influencing factors. One of these important factors would have to be the
expectations set by parents. They are normally the reason students are in college, so pleasing them
by getting good grades is almost mandatory. The thought of displeasing out parents can be
detrimental to our thought process; meaning that it most likely would cause impaired

Choosing a college means going to a new, unfamiliar world of immense possibilities. One of the
hardest decisions a high school graduate face is the choice between attending a Community College

Students attending private universities pay an average tuition of $35,374. Those who attend a
community college for the first two year of their education save $8,000 or more. Since most of the
same financial aid including Pell grants and Stafford loans is available for any institution choice,
students in the lowest income brackets can expect a larger financial aid refund from a community
college than a university. Those who need a university education to meet their career goals may be
able to attend a community college part time while they work and save up. Then, when they transfer
to a university for their final two years, they may have saved enough that with financial aid, they can
pursue their four–year degree.
Community Colleges tend to have fewer students per class, which means more attention from
teacher to student. This is good for students who like access to their instructors so they can ask
questions and avoid getting lost in the course material. Universities are bigger than community
colleges and it takes a little longer to find your way around campus. Most teenagers graduate from
high school eager to leave their parents house and do grown up things. The benefit of attending a
University is living on campus instead of your parent's home. Not all universities have dorms, but the
majority of them do. Which you have to pay for parking, fitness center, laundry and other fees

The student loan debt has reached up to $1.2 trillion in federal debt; student loans are the second
highest consumer debt. A quick economics lesson, the national debt causes many consequences
when our economy isn't functioning in the level it should be, it causes our economic growth to
slow down and therefore less jobs are available and it causes interest rates to rise. According to
Chris Denhart, it's safer to receive federal loans rather than private loans. Federal student loans
are easier to pay and much rather safer, because federal loans are based on the income of the
student, they have fixed interest rates, and don't have to start paying until nine months later,
"making them a much safer loan for students to take." (1) On the contrary, with private loans that
isn't the case. "Private loans have done away with late fees, and in fine print have redefined the
right to claim default on the loan after missing a single payment," (1) what does that mean?
Simple, you can't afford to miss a payment and if you do prepare to have a bad credit. A result of
bad credit would lead to negative effects in the future as well. By having bad credit students in the
long run won't be able to invest in a house, a car, a business, etc., which would leave the economy
without any money coming in. "As a nation, we need more college graduates in order to stay

A look back at the institution of education over the past 20 years will reveal that once upon a time
a bachelor's degree was long since considered the marker of ultimate success, the highest level of
achievement that one could make in their lives. In those days, if for some reason you failed to
march across the stage on graduation day after an epic, four–year stretch of high tuition, long nights

This is not the only way that you can save by going to a community college. Chances are a larger
university is not near your home. A school closer to home allows you to stay home and cut your bills
another way by eliminating room and board fees and transportation expenses. Driving across town

College Essay : Why I Want To Go To College
There might be a time where people ask you, "why are you in college" or "why to decide to go to

typical reason of why people go to college. Sure you can say that having a degree means that a

in school. She told me thought thing because as a child, she never had the opportunity to go to
school. She only completed up to 4th grade, because her family couldn't pay the tuition to attend.
She would had to wake up at 4oclock in the morning to sell food, to make a living for her family.
We were fortunate enough to be able to come to the United States in 2005, but tragedy happens a
year later. She received a phone call, saying that my father was in a serious car accident, on the
night of Christmas Eve, he passed away. Since then my mother, became a single mother having to
support two children by herself in a new country. There

Pros and Cons of Attending College Essay examples
Is College Worth It? In Life today a college education is no longer an option or privilege, but rather
it is a necessity. We are raised to believe that a person needs higher education in order to succeed in
life. There is a saying, "if you think education is expensive, try ignorance." You may ask is college
necessary? There are people out in the real world that have never set a foot on a college campus
before and they are doing better than others that have their master's degree. There are many views
from both sides that have a good argument. The main reason people go to college is because they
were always told you will have a better life if you go to college. Kids are pressured to feel that the

They do not want to be looked down upon in the eyes of society so they do what they think is
best. The idea to become a productive person in society is that you must have some sort of
college education. Being a college student is seen as more respectable, rather then being a
garbage man or janitor because of the way society looks down upon these types of careers. Going
to college and receiving a degree does not guarantee that a person is going to get a job right after
they graduate. It is sometimes hard for some graduates to find a good job because there is so
much competition with other graduates as well. Sometimes they may get a job and it could be in
a totally different field of what they got their degree for. They must find a job though to pay off
all the debt that an education has given them. Many students feel that some classes are a waste of
time and money because they learn nothing about their chosen field. They have to take classes
that have nothing to do with their major but must take the class to meet the core education
requirement of the college. If these students receive a less than average grade in a class they feel
is unneeded then that lowers their overall GPA. The major reason of going to college is to get a
good job. College prepares us with academic knowledge in order to succeed in the future. Many
people think that a higher education is essential to prepare a person for their future. As

My College Experience Essay examples
My College Experience
Throughout my lifetime I have listened to people reflect back on their college experiences and
explain how college is supposed to be "the best experience of your life." The summer after my senior
year I use to try and imagine what my first semester was going to be like based on what I had heard
people talk about in the past. After my first semester at NC State I realized that I couldn't fully
understand what college was like until I experienced it for myself. My first couple of weeks at
Ohio State was rough and really tested my strength (mental and physical). I faced challenges and
obstacles that I had never heard about in those past college experience conversations. All of a
sudden there was no one to get me out of...show more content...
I can remember missing 8:05 classes because I stayed out too late the night before. In high school the
teacher would constantly remind the students when certain assignments were due, but this was not
the case in college. I learned that the hard way my first semester. Sometimes I forgot to turn in an
assignment because I didn't properly read my syllabus and my professor never mentioned it. These
were all new problems that could have easily let escalate without taking the proper actions. For the
most part I was doing fairly well but a few of my grades began to plummet. I was losing the
confidence in myself and started to wonder if going to college had been the best decision. The time
had come for me to grow up and become an adult even I didn't feel the time was right. I immediately
began attending tutoring sessions, working with peers and also keeping a daily to–do list. These
factors were the eventually led to drastic improvement and success. After my first semester I
learned how better manage my time, take advantage of campus resources and also how to organize
myself better. These struggles also taught me that sometimes I try and rush through things instead
of taking my time. I realized that one of my strong points is being able to really do well when my
back is against the wall. Although I was unhappy while facing obstacles I am happy I experienced
them. I believe this experience was the reason for my

  • 1. Pros And Cons Of College Essay As pounded in our heads by teachers and adults, after high school the best idea is to go to college. This may not be the case for everyone. There are many pros and cons for college. College is not for everyone, and I believe students should have the freedom to choose the path they take. For people who desire to acquire a well paying job, a degree may be required. Most data points that the fastest growing job categories require at least a college degree. Getting a degree can be as simple as going for 2 years or even 6. Getting a college degree will draw employers attention and gain respect. Some people who have a degree may get paid more at their job than others who do not. Expanding your knowledge is important as there is always more to learn. In my opinion, college is the best idea for any age student. When planning your future, you can decide between a two–year community college or a four–year university. You can base your decision depending on your career field or job you want to pursue. Some jobs may not even require a degree, in which college is unnecessary. Some jobs may only require an associate's degree, so why waste your money at a university. Some may say that the experience at a four–year university is critical to growing up. Mr. Perlstein states, "the college experience– a rite of passage as it was meant to be– must have come to an end." Rick Perlstein believes that the four–year experience is meaningful. At a four–year, you may experience more diversity, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. College Admissions Essay: What Is College? What is college? In my life I had failed over thousands of times. From my first attempt to ride a bike, falling and getting an ugly scar on my right knee or my first time entering a PokГ©mon tournament, getting eliminated in the first round. Even through these failures, I never felt discouraged. I got on my cousin bike the next and I entered many other PokГ©mon tournaments afterwards. My failures motivate me to try even harder and try to succeed the next time around. Always giving it all I got and a little more. One of my greatest failures that I had in my life was not taking school serious, more specifically my freshmen and sophomore math and history classes' in high school. This misstep had taught me two major things that are important to have in this world, a college education, asking for help. These lesions that I learn helped me mature and prosper as individual....show more content... In my family education was not really available do to poverty and lack of resources. My mother couldn't even finish elementary, well my father only manage to finish middle school. They came to this country chasing the American dream of having a better life. They came with hope of giving my sibling and I a better life, a chance to become something more. I had failed to realize this at first; I was more caught up in trying to fit in with the crowd and getting in trouble. It wasn't until late second semester of sophomore year did I realize my mistake. I was failing my common core 2–math class (which I passed with a low D) and I saw my high school transcript. I felt such disappointment and selfishness'; I had not only failed my parents but also failed myself. I was denying myself what billons of people such as my parents wish they had, a chance to prosper. • 3. My Experience In A College Class "Welcome Class to Composition one." Those words were voiced by my professor, Mrs. Robinson, on the first day of school. Initially, I thought to myself, do I even belong in this college course class. Before school had even begun, the stress over the summer about my English skills was eating me alive. Why? Well, in my past English classes I received A's on all of my essays, but this college class did not seem so easy. Also, I was always fascinated by all the arts and sciences, but English never struck interest in me. I never thought that I could write any decent essays. The reason I insecure about my writing skills was because of the ACT. Since the ACT is the talk about how smart an individual is, my ACT score was not very high. As the course continued, the firstessay approached quickly. I remember being stressed about this essay because of my writing insecurities. Although I managed to acquire a decent grade, I promised myself to strive to make myself a better writer. I started to read Norton Field Guide to Writing handbook also known as the yellow book, and slowly but surely started to develop knowledge of good writing skills and tips to improve my essays. This allowed me to grow as a writer and slowly my insecurities started to dwindle, and I began to gain confidence in myself. I never would've thought that the next time I took the ACT that my English score would be my highest. When getting my score back and realizing that I had improved so much, I began to wonder how I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. College Admissions Essay: The LGBT Community College Essay Throughout my life I have experienced many things that have molded me into the person I am today, but the one I find most profound involves my coming out as a member of the LGBT+ community. As a child I suffered tremendously with confusion, self hatred, and misunderstanding about my own sexuality. Growing up queer in a small town is never an easy thing. I went through years of denial, and hid all of my thoughts about what I thought could be. I was so muddled in an all too common train of thought that my first conclusion was that I was incapable of loving another human being. Having never experienced honest crushes or any emotional or physical attraction to the opposite sex, I was very frightened for my ability to one day have a family. This thought put me into a mode of paranoia and panic. I began to search any place I could for any other possibility, hoping for some form of medication or therapy to ail me of what I thought was a mental illness. After only a few minutes at the computer, I realized there was nothing wrong with my mind, or capability to love. I am just gay. After this realization, I was still confused and upset as to why I am the way that I am. I questioned if that was actually the solution or if it was just me...show more content... About 3 months after being freed of such horrible denial, I entered my first, and hopefully only, homosexual relationship. While I was ecstatic about this and ready to scream it out to the world, my mom was not. I came out to my mother about 4 months after being in this new relationship, and she was distraught. She still loved me, but was heartbroken by the fact that I didn't turn out to be the daughter she expected. I had hidden my true self from her for years, and she was angry. That first night of her knowing was horrible. I stayed with my grandmother, who i had come out to months before, and just prayed she would calm down Get more content on HelpWriting.net

During my last year of high school, I met a friend who was surprised that was not planning on enrolling at the local community college. As I've matured and joined the United States Marine Corps, I had an opportunity to start my college journey. Surprisingly, that was in 1978. From 1978 to 2009 my journey took me to my midpoint and I received my Associates Degree. The thrill of receiving that Associates degree motivated me to start on my undergraduate journey. There were several reasons why I decided to start this journey in addition to the thrill and it ranges from making new friends, preparing for new career, learn new skills, and most...show more content... Holding down a full–time job and having a family to support while still pursuing a degree will provide a feeling of great accomplishment. In addition, the excitement of challenge myself each week, each month, each semester, each year will keep me focused on the goal of receiving a degree in EM. College could be described as a rite of passage, where future working men and women step out from sheltered childhood lives into an independent place of learning. It is different from the original schooling most children receive as there is a more in–depth workload that requires more studying. College will change my life as I am open to many fields of study, expanding my mind and giving a glimpse of what to expect when I step out into the working world. As college students, we as students must have a fierce ambition to accomplish a balance between a healthy, steady social life and a bright academic future. Communication is an important tool in life, not just inside college that broadens our horizons and makes us more intelligent generally. The future working men and women who enter college are adults and will be treated as such. An adult is one who has matured to know what is right and what is wrong. The importance of a rule is a line between right and wrong that many places including colleges have as a guiding tool. College students who enter are expected to follow rules as the rules are meant to protect us and set a guideline. Adults also know how to be self–sufficient, being able to do their work, without anyone's help or stealing someone else's work: plagiarism. College is where we are expected to perform to the best of our abilities because as students we have a fierce ambition to get ahead by earning a degree. College is a chance to be free and is a bridge between the real world and school. I'm an adult and expected to behave as such; I make my own choices where I have to decide what is important to me. • 7. Personal Growth in College Essay So far, the college experience has made me a changed person. College changed me into a better person on many occasions. I have learned to be more responsible, when it comes down to getting work done. In college you must be responsible. I have also changed my attitude. Moving from high school to college is a big step; if you don't change your ways for the better then you might not be successful in college. When you reach college then is the time that you become an adult. First off, the college life has changed me for the better. I am much more responsible in many different ways. That's just one example, there are many more. Another reason college is a big step is because you're on your own, and you don't have nobody to tell you what to do, you make your own decisions when it has to deal with getting up early in the morning to go to class, you have your parents or anyone to wake you up, it's a big step, you just have to stay focus. Third of all, you have to change your attitude toward school. You have to want to finish school; you have to think about the money you are spending to go to school. For example you are paying for every class you take and if you fail a class then you are paying for the same class again. College is a major step from high school. I personally wasn't ready for college, but this being my second year I understand what I have to do to finish school. I understand more and more why education is a major issue in life, especially a college education. Entering college you have to change your game plan to get where you want to be in life. In conclusion, the college experience has made me a changed person. It has made me a changed person for the better. I have learned a lot, I have learned responsibility. Without responsibility in college you will not make very far. You must get your work done, and be punctual. You must make the right decisions, don't let peer pressure get to you, try to avoid it. • 8. What Does A College Education Mean To Me Essay I live in an impoverished town, with a 40% increase this year in opioid deaths, where the education system pumps under–educated teens onto the streets they came from, with no chance of a job. Many parents and adults do not care, know, or understand the value of a college education. This is my reality. Just as it does not define who I am or what I want to be, neither do my SAT scores. We neither have nor can afford private SAT or ACT tutors. No one tells us to start preparing for college, even as seniors. My SAT training was me, myself, and I studying between jobs and after homework, whenever and wherever I could find a quiet place. Consequently, I have SAT scores that do not reflect all I know. I was out of place, a quiet girl whose clothing was obviously not fashionable, lucky if she had a bag lunch, and no reason to be confident. No one I knew was a role model and no one volunteered to step up to be one. With no social life and a toxic home life, my grades plummeted before they had a chance to climb. As the freshman year concluded, I saw the writing on the wall. I started making the seismic shift that put me on my path to success to become a top college graduate. Summer residents helped me gain confidence in who I was and take control of my life. While others still bully me every day it no longer phases me, they became mere hot air whistlers in the wind of the halls. I found places to go, things to do, and made an effort to speak with people who would value knowing me; it turned out there were a lot of them. Today's world economies are so tied together and react to one another that only the brightest and smartest will survive. The better educated a student is in the specific career that they have chosen to earn a degree in will give them the educated edge so that they can out compete with foreign markets. President Barack Obama said "In this kind of economy, countries who out–educate us today will out–compete us tomorrow. Already, China is graduating eight times as many engineers as we are. By 12th grade, our children score lower on math and science tests than most other kids in the world," ("Full"). American colleges need to do a better job at improving math and science scores so that the graduating student can better compete in the world market Asian countries are continuously outperforming American students. Being the first, it was probably the semester I would learn the most in. I learned the expectations for writing that I will have to live up to for the next four years of my college career. Though my high school teachers were usually demanding because I was in the Honors English section throughout high school, writing in college has still ?raised the bar? for me. Also, in high school, we would have weeks to pick a topic, create a thesis, outline the paper, write the paper, and then revise the paper. In college, the timerestraints are not quite as lenient. I?ve had to learn to manage my time and be more productive with what free moments I...show more content... I definitely learned a great deal from our discussions about this book. I really did not like it at all until the class sat down and analyzed the many levels Conrad addressed in his story. I thought the endless paradoxes in the book, once brought to light, were actually very interesting. My favorite section, however, was the poetry unit. I really enjoyed the poem ?The Blues? by Billy Collins the most because of my respect for music. I think Collins really makes a point in his poem about just how important music is and how it allows people who are very different to connect on many levels. I also loved ?Love Calls Us to the Things of This World? by Richard Wilbur. The imagery in this poem was absolutely amazing, and I adored how he made the ordinary things seem mystical with his words. I loved how the laundry became angels. If only we could look at the world from that point of view more often, it would be a much happier place. The criticisms in college have even been somewhat enjoyable and interesting to read. I think I began to like the stories and poems we read in class more and more as we discussed them and looked at different authorities? opinions. I found a lot of the information in the databases very useful. For the Antigone research project, the JSTORS database gave me hundreds of articles dealing with my topic. I could narrow down what I was looking for and find numerous Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Why I Chose When Attending A Small College Most colleges/universities in the world are overpriced and it takes not only a lot of money, but also perfect grades and exceptional extracurriculars to be able to get into them and pursue the career you want. Smaller colleges are expensive as well, but not as overpriced like all the big colleges. I would prefer to attend a small college in a small town. For example, I chose to attend West Hills Coalinga because I thought it would be a great experience since it is a small college; I come from a small town, therefore I would fit in better there than in a big school. West Hills Coalinga has the same opportunities all colleges have, but not only that, you can save yourself many personal and financial expenses as well. Going to a college in a big city is going to be overpriced because in a big city everything is really expensive including housing, but if I were to ...show more content... It is proven that there is less probability of crimes in a small town that in a big city. I would want to live somewhere safe because with the probability of attending evening classes, I would feel better knowing the town I live in is safe. I could get to know everyone. I would not feel like an outsider or feel as though I did not belong like I would in the big city. I would feel more comfortable attending a small college coming directly from a small high school. A lot of people say that you have better opportunities going to a big college than going to a small college, but I believe attending a small town college is better at least for me. There would be less distractions, less, expenses, less problems, and I would not feel as far from home. You can still meets new people, make friends faster, and get to know them better. Attending a small college and living in a small town would save me a lot of stress and I would also save a lot of money than if I were to attend a big college and live in a big Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. My Personal Goals as a Student Essay My Personal Goals as a Student An obvious goal as a working adult returning to school is, of course, to earn a degree. My overall goal is no different than any other student, however, I also have several personal goals I hope to achieve while attending the University. Some of these goals are to acquire new skills and enhance my current business abilities, to apply what I learn in the classroom to forward my career, and to feel personal satisfaction of finishing something I started. Already having experience in the business world has proven to me that it is essential to have skills to maintain and improve daily functions. Three skills I'd personally like to improve on are my organizational, time management, and presentation...show more content... By just going through the motions of coming to work everyday, only getting done what has to be done, and going home at the end of the day, one might realize that an everyday routine can quickly turn into a mundane professional life. At the same time, if a person does all of these things, but shows a bit of initiative to gain more knowledge of the job, they may see an opportunity to slightly move up in the company. The latter is my situation. My experience and knowledge of my department and its systems have afforded me the opportunity to move up within the department over the past five years, but I'm beginning to see a limit of how far those skills alone will allow me to climb. Being an expert in my field of pharmaceutical benefits doesn't translate into managing personnel just as knowing how to complete a task doesn't mean I'm able to give a clear presentation on how it should be done. Sure, I've been rewarded for the work I've done and knowledge I've obtained, but at some point, my employer will eventually see that more is needed to continue to promote me to higher, more management focused positions. My goal is to complete these courses and obtain my degree to prove that, if the situation arises, I can be the right person for the job. A more personal goal of mine is to finish what I've started. • 13. My Life As A College Student Essay Over the course of the last semester, I grew tremendously, not just as a writer but as a student. I learned skills and tactics that will last me throughout my life and will benefit me once I begin the next four years of my life as a college student. This early gateway into college writing provided me with exposure to the expectations that I will face in the college classroom. This will come in handy in the English classroom, as well as in every subject I will face over the course of the next four years, and beyond. Writing is a key skill that communicates ideas and information, and is essential to being successful. Whether I go into the music industry or find myself in a completely unforeseen career, it is certain that I will use my writing skills at some point. This class sharpened those skills and prepared me for the future in ways no high school english class could. This class has challenged me to think more in depth than I ever have before. It forced me to use my writing as a means of expressing knowledge, ideas, and facts in a clear organized manner. In order to accomplish the goals of each paper assigned, I found new ways to present the same information. For example, in every essay I included the theme that governments should be more involved in the fight against cyber warfare. However, I presented this idea in each paper in different forms. In the summary, I simply stated what an author of a certain article had to say about this idea. In the critique, I discussed Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Stress Among College Students Essay examples College is a time of extreme stress due to societal and parental pressures. College students have expectations they have to live up to in order to fulfill and satisfy the needs of both their parents and society. Stress is expressed through a variety of symptoms that can be hazardous to student's physical and mental health. With such high expectations to do well during college, students may become sleep deprived, which impairs mental capacity, but sleep deprivation is only one of a vast array of symptoms. According to Lupien, McEwan, Gunnar, and Heim (2009), going off to college involves significant adjustments to their daily routines; sleeping and eating habits, time–management skills, and stress levels will be altered in one way or another. First–year students have to adjust to the new school environment, different social settings, and new schedules, all without the help and guidance from their parents, who have been there for them for eighteen years. Over 30% of college freshman report that they feel overwhelmed (Klainberg, Ewing, & Ryan, 2010), where some students even opt to work as they juggle their class and work schedules. Some students work at a job or study harder than others, but they are all trying to get degrees so maybe one day they will have meaningful and significant lives. It is a constant struggle for everyone who is trying desperately to make him or herself into a success. And every college student wants to be involved in society in a positive manner, allowing contribution of their ideals and values to others. Stress in college is caused by many other influencing factors. One of these important factors would have to be the expectations set by parents. They are normally the reason students are in college, so pleasing them by getting good grades is almost mandatory. Community College vs University Essay examples Compare and Contrast Essay Community College vs. Universities Choosing a college means going to a new, unfamiliar world of immense possibilities. One of the hardest decisions a high school graduate face is the choice between attending a Community College or a University. Although Universities and CommunityCollege serve the same purpose, each has its differences and similarities in their learning such as the admission requirements, expenses, size, and student life. Students attending private universities pay an average tuition of $35,374. Those who attend a community college for the first two year of their education save $8,000 or more. Since most of the same financial aid including Pell grants and Stafford loans is available for any institution choice, students in the lowest income brackets can expect a larger financial aid refund from a community college than a university. Those who need a university education to meet their career goals may be able to attend a community college part time while they work and save up. Then, when they transfer to a university for their final two years, they may have saved enough that with financial aid, they can pursue their four–year degree. Community Colleges tend to have fewer students per class, which means more attention from teacher to student. This is good for students who like access to their instructors so they can ask questions and avoid getting lost in the course material. Universities are bigger than community colleges and it takes a little longer to find your way around campus. Most teenagers graduate from high school eager to leave their parents house and do grown up things. The benefit of attending a University is living on campus instead of your parent's home. Not all universities have dorms, but the majority of them do. Which you have to pay for parking, fitness center, laundry and other fees included. • 16. Essay about College Expense Congrats! You've been accepted to the college of your choice; now all that's left to figure out is how you'll pay for college. Unfortunately, college costs don't end at tuition and room and board you'll also have to pay for textbooks, meals, transportation, and a computer with working internet. We have been told that we live in a free country, but if our country is so called "free," how come paying for an education isn't? The most important in my case and many low income students is trying to attend college and being able to pay without going into debt. I find myself, since 2010, hearing the same stories of previous college graduate, who have gone into debt by the time they reached their sophomore year of college. A quick economics lesson, the national debt causes many consequences when our economy isn't functioning in the level it should be, it causes our economic growth to slow down and therefore less jobs are available and it causes interest rates to rise. According to Chris Denhart, it's safer to receive federal loans rather than private loans. Federal student loans are easier to pay and much rather safer, because federal loans are based on the income of the student, they have fixed interest rates, and don't have to start paying until nine months later, "making them a much safer loan for students to take." (1) On the contrary, with private loans that isn't the case. "Private loans have done away with late fees, and in fine print have redefined the right to claim default on the loan after missing a single payment," (1) what does that mean? Simple, you can't afford to miss a payment and if you do prepare to have a bad credit. A result of bad credit would lead to negative effects in the future as well. By having bad credit students in the long run won't be able to invest in a house, a car, a business, etc., which would leave the economy without any money coming in. • 17. A look back at the institution of education over the past 20 years will reveal that once upon a time a bachelor's degree was long since considered the marker of ultimate success, the highest level of achievement that one could make in their lives. In those days, if for some reason you failed to march across the stage on graduation day after an epic, four–year stretch of high tuition, long nights studying, and unrelenting professors that found great joy in riding your back, then you had indeed failed at life. Attendance at a technical college or local 2–year school was deplorably referenced to as "loser's territory" and if you dared to enroll in one anyway and followed through to graduation, well you were congratulated but to a lackluster...show more content... By taking these steps, you are in complete control of your education and which directions it will turn in. It will be forward moving rather than stalled and undecided, which can potentially lead to higher bills as a direct result of your extended enrollment beyond the intended 2–year stay. This is not the only way that you can save by going to a community college. Chances are a larger university is not near your home. A school closer to home allows you to stay home and cut your bills another way by eliminating room and board fees and transportation expenses. Driving across town and maintaining your sometimes drastically lower living expenses sounds much better than the usurious bill many find themselves incurring at a larger school miles away from home. Build a Solid Work History Now that more people are earning degrees than they did two decades ago, employers are requiring applicants to have some type of experience listed on their resume if they expect serious consideration of their resume. In the past, all one needed was a crisp degree, bright and shiny, to hand over to a prospective employer to get on a desired company in your respective field. Those days are gone. To be competitive in today's job market, with longevity, you must have referenced experience from someone of power to vouch for your basic job Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. College Essay : Why I Want To Go To College There might be a time where people ask you, "why are you in college" or "why to decide to go to college." People might reply by saying that they want a degree, that they want a higher paying job, or they need that for a future career that they are pursuing. Those responses are the most typical reason of why people go to college. Sure you can say that having a degree means that a person can get a better job with better pay rather than working in the manual labor fields with minimum pay. A college degree is the fundamental stepping stone to the future, it lays the foundation of where to start. College is everything to me; I'm in college so I'm able to unlock more potential in myself, to be able to make my mother proud with everything that she has done and hopefully becoming the first. Since I was a child, my mother would tell me to try my hardest in school. She told me thought thing because as a child, she never had the opportunity to go to school. She only completed up to 4th grade, because her family couldn't pay the tuition to attend. She would had to wake up at 4oclock in the morning to sell food, to make a living for her family. We were fortunate enough to be able to come to the United States in 2005, but tragedy happens a year later. She received a phone call, saying that my father was in a serious car accident, on the night of Christmas Eve, he passed away. • 19. Pros and Cons of Attending College Essay examples Is College Worth It? In Life today a college education is no longer an option or privilege, but rather it is a necessity. We are raised to believe that a person needs higher education in order to succeed in life. There is a saying, "if you think education is expensive, try ignorance." You may ask is college necessary? There are people out in the real world that have never set a foot on a college campus before and they are doing better than others that have their master's degree. The idea to become a productive person in society is that you must have some sort of college education. Being a college student is seen as more respectable, rather then being a garbage man or janitor because of the way society looks down upon these types of careers. Going to college and receiving a degree does not guarantee that a person is going to get a job right after they graduate. It is sometimes hard for some graduates to find a good job because there is so much competition with other graduates as well. Sometimes they may get a job and it could be in a totally different field of what they got their degree for. They must find a job though to pay off all the debt that an education has given them. Many students feel that some classes are a waste of time and money because they learn nothing about their chosen field. They have to take classes that have nothing to do with their major but must take the class to meet the core education requirement of the college. If these students receive a less than average grade in a class they feel is unneeded then that lowers their overall GPA. The major reason of going to college is to get a good job. • 20. My College Experience Essay examples My College Experience Throughout my lifetime I have listened to people reflect back on their college experiences and explain how college is supposed to be "the best experience of your life." The summer after my senior year I use to try and imagine what my first semester was going to be like based on what I had heard people talk about in the past. After my first semester at NC State I realized that I couldn't fully understand what college was like until I experienced it for myself. These were all new problems that could have easily let escalate without taking the proper actions. For the most part I was doing fairly well but a few of my grades began to plummet. I was losing the confidence in myself and started to wonder if going to college had been the best decision. The time had come for me to grow up and become an adult even I didn't feel the time was right. I immediately began attending tutoring sessions, working with peers and also keeping a daily to–do list. These factors were the eventually led to drastic improvement and success. After my first semester I learned how better manage my time, take advantage of campus resources and also how to organize myself better. These struggles also taught me that sometimes I try and rush through things instead of taking my time.
