My Growth As A Writer
The Memo will directly address my growth as a writer throughout my time in EH 101–13. It will
also highlight my current strengths and weaknesses in my own personal writing style.
My DevelopmentRhetorical Analysis: This being the first paper I wrote for you, it turned out to be
utter garbage. This was my worst essay because I was overconfident in my own writing ability and
didn't think I had much room to improve on. At the time I felt like it was a top notch essay, but I
have recently gone back and reread it only to notice it as choppy and stale to read. Then the paper
was riddled with comma splices, even after you did a lesson going over how to fix them. It wasn't
out of spite that I kept repeating these mistakes, but instead it was just ignorance on the matter. It
was my goal coming out of that essay to fix those errors and while not perfect, I feel I have
improved in my awareness of the problem. This paper taught me a great deal on how to think more
critically about situations. This new mindset directly came into play in the second essay. I learned
my greatest lesson from this paper. I have so much room for improvement. Now that I can see more
of my errors I can continue to improve and move forwards with my writing abilities.
Literary Analysis: The Literary Analysis was by far my best essay and the one I most enjoyed
writing. The new critical thinking skills I learned in the first essay made writing this paper much
easier. I also found the topics of the

When Writing An Essay
When writing an essay, especially one to convince others of your competence, it is important to
have a central point in mind. Throwing in idle points here and there cause the writer to appear
unorganized and sloppy, not at all what a college is looking for. If my central theme is passion then
both the introductory and closing sentences should in some way have a connection to passion. The
meat of the essay should have evidence for the referenced passion. Closing the paragraph out
explaining that passion is central to your experience with individuals with sexually problematic
behaviors keeps the message consistent. A central theme may be hard to locate at times, but it is the
first step to writing a coherent essay. "Given my expertise, I have been trained to use de–escalation
and therapeutic techniques to return a youth to baseline behavior." This is the first sentence of the
paragraph. As a reader I will take from this that you intend to write about returning youth to baseline
behavior for the duration of the paragraph and that you will further delve into de–escalation and
therapeutic techniques to do such. It is also unwise to refer to your expertise when you only hold
a bachelor's degree, regardless of how much experience you have. (Not devaluing a bachelor's at
all, just saying that "expertise" implies a master's level education or higher.) "Working at Indian

Critical Assessment Of An Essay
Critical Assessment
When writing an essay it is essential to allow for the piece to develop and become its own organic
living being. The author must allow for the paper to make mistakes therefore it can review itself
and correct any confusion. This procedure of making and amending blunders can occur as many
times as possible for the paper to fully evolve. Thenceforth the author must be able to look
objectively at their essay and evaluate how effectively the message is being portrayed. The
capability to adequately evaluate and reflect upon one 's essay is what separates the good essays
from the superb ones. The essential criteria to what makes a good essay is an accomplished thesis
statement, lively transitional wording, and impactful verb choices.
While examining my first essay i quickly identified its shortcomings relative to my essential
criteria. It was clear to me that my thesis statement lacked directness and did not properly engage
the reader. It was too narrow in scope, while, correspondingly failing to provide the reader with
direction for the rest of the paper. The thesis was probably the main downfall of the entire essay
because it was difficult to tie in what i was writing back to a weak thesis statement. Additionally the
paper had close to zero transitional phrases and when they did appear they seemed awkward and
forced. This resulted in an essay that felt choppy and probably was uncomfortable for the reader to
process. The reason for having transitional words

My Thoughts On Writing And Writing
Just like the writing I am forcing from my thoughts right now, writing in general is a difficult
process for me to transfer from my mind to paper. I have found that when I write I tend to be very
repetitive by saying the same thing in a different way over and over. I believe that my repetition
is derived from trying to be too complex in the development of how I write. Some additional
problems I come across in developing my rhetoric are concentrating; as my focus can be easily
drawn away from the current topic at hand. I believe that it may be a short intention span or maybe
even lack of understanding toward a certain topic such as the current one about writing
developments. I struggle with my ability to form complete thoughts without jumping topics or
merging each thought into one another. In retrospect to the problems I have come to face with my
writing I do have many things I enjoy about writing. Writing to me is a way to be descriptive and
creative with my own thoughts depending upon the style of course, but for the most part it is
intriguing because everything that I will do in life will require me to have some set of writing
skills. With the following in mind my essay writing process is developed from these aspects. My
writing process will start by forming ideas in my head. Usually I don't like to write these ideas and
thoughts down because I don't feel they are very developed therefore not worth the time it would
take to plan them out on paper. This is especially true

My Writing Struggles
My successfulness and my struggles began when I first learned how to write and read in Spanish
and sixteen years later I was force to learn a new language which is English. Back in the Dominican
Republic where I'm originally from in between ages five to eight my mother and I struggle with my
writing skills. My mother struggle teaching me how to write and I struggle learning how to write
clearly because my teachers couldn't understand anything written by me. I cannot remember how my
writing skill look back then, but I can remember how shamed I felt when my classmates made fun
of my writing materials. Once my friends wrote in the board "El profesor esta muy loco" translation

myself because everything that I did learned in high school fade away in a year and a half that I
spend it only working. Furthermore, I decided to enroll for college, but for my surprise I have to
take remedial classes or clip. I chose clip while I spend a year in the clip program I still fail, but it
did help me a lot in my English hand writing. This achievement wasn't enough to pass my cat–w, but
I did pass my reading thanks to my teacher Joao Da Silva. Also thanks to Jonathan Alexandratos

Writing Skills Process Analysis
Within English 219, we have already learned a vital set of writing skills, that will allow for the
improvement of essays, and summaries that must be written for future assessments. Some of these
skills that would be relevant for achieving general writing improvement could be ideas such as
thesis development, structuring and planning, or more specific examples when actually fleshing
out the essay such as elements of grammar and style. Thesis development which is crucial so that
ideas can be fully explained and related back to a point which can be interpreted as an overarching
theme for the entire paper, and allows the reader to interpret the topic of not only the essay but of
each paragraph. Taking a step back we looked in class at the subject...show more content...
Voice was the main stylistic element that we discussed in class, and it is the role of voice that
allows for the flow of the paper to remain constant and the reader to remain engaged within a
paper. Without proper voice, the paper can be confusing to the reader and creates issues of flow
while reading the article of work, even worse is the mixing of voices which causes mass
disorganization and causes a piece of work to be hard to interpret and comprehend. Within our
entire English class so far, even though it has only been a short few weeks, we have invested time
into learning crucial techniques to improve writing for academic purposes. Whether this writing be
that of planning out major writing assignments in advance with inkshedding and outlining, our

have learned it how to properly convey style elements within a paper such as voice as to allow the

development, and elements of style allow for an essay to be powerful and consistent within the

Questions On Writing An Essay Essay
So you 're a competent writer. You have written plenty of essays in high school. Yet, for some
reason, you still can 't see to get an A on an essay. You have the basics of writing down, so what
more can you do? Here are some more advanced advice to spice up your essays, and earn you that A!
How to Write a College Essay: Address the Opposition Read any book about writing an essay, and
you will be told to address the opposition. Acknowledging that your thesis can be argued may
seem like it would hinder your essay, but it actually makes it stronger. When you leave the reader
to come up with their own argument against your essay, they think that your ideas are then wrong.
By saying that there is a counter argument, you are actually strengthening your essay. You are
saying that your idea is in fact the better idea compared to the opposition. You can address the
counter argument in a couple of different ways. You can either write the counter arguments all in
one paragraph, or weave them into your paper. The most important thing to remember is to address
the opposition for every assertion you make. Being consistent in this makes you seem like you
have a though out position, and will be taken more seriously by the reader. How to Write a College
Essay: Define the Abstract Defining terms may seem like something high school told you never to
do. And you should never start out an essay by saying: "The dictionary defines writing as...". But

Reflection On My English 101 Experience
Reflecting on My English 101 Experience I used to consider writing as tumble words from your
mind, write, read it through, fix minor mistakes, and done. However, you rarely get successful. The
truth is many students, including myself, struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in
the middle without knowing the main point of the writing. After completing English 101, I can
explain the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my essay, and identify my weaknesses.
Throughout English 101, I learned that the following the writing process was imperative. Before
taking this class, I use to always skip the pre–writing step considering that it is just an easy and
unnecessary step. Consequently, I struggled to figure how to start writing, and most importantly I
struggled to figure out the main point while writing the draft. And then I finish the first draft close to
the deadline that I do not have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I started this class
that learned that pre–writing is vital, and requires time and attention as it holds the base of the
whole writing. My professor used different analogies such as blueprint for building and map for
navigation to explain the importance. It really speeded up my writing after I started to utilize it. I
have learned outlining before, but part of the pre–writing that I was fortunate enough to learning in
English 101 is the writing triangle. Even before outlining, the topic, purpose, and audience of the

Many people struggle with writing a paper because they do not know how to make their paper
appealing to the audience. If you don 't know who the audience is it can lead to many disadvantages
because you would have a lot of criticism. Also, your paper wouldnt be interesting to someone who
doesn't know much about the topic. The audience is the most important thing to worry about in
writing. Sometimes you forget that you're writing not only for your benefits but also the reader 's
benefits too. There are ways to show you how to appeal to and know your type of audience.
Before you can make your paper appealing to the audience, you have to know who your audience
is and why the audience can be important to your paper. "Knowing your audience helps you make
decisions about what information you should include, how you should arrange that information,
and what kind of supporting details will be necessary for the reader to understand what you are
presenting" ("Writing for").Knowing this information can make your paper so much easier
because if you know what your audience is looking for and explaining your topic many people
would be interested in your paper. If you don't know how to arrange a paper to make it revealing it
would be very hard for the audience to know what's going on in your paper. If you want to make your
argument appealing you should dissert your readers. Writing a paper can be lengthy if you don't
know much about the topic you are writing about. You could

The first place you should go is the library, even if this means ordering in books from other
libraries. For academics to have their books (and journal articles) published, they must go through a
process called peer–reviewing. During this process, one or more other academics who are experts
in the field will read and assess a book or article to decide if it is of publishable standard. This is
why your research will be of the highest quality if you use books, monographs, textbooks and
journal articles written by academics for your research, because the work had to meet academic
standards. There is no such process for publishing on the internet; anyone can write whatever they
like on any subject.
Your second stop after books, monographs and textbooks will be journal articles. Some of these
will only be available in hardcopy from the library, but many will be available in their full–text
versions through online electronic databases, such as JStore, ProQuest and Ingenta.
4. Finalise the Essay Plan
In Step 2, you would have drafted a rough essay plan before you began your research. During the
research process (in Step 3), you would have developed this plan further as you learned more
information on your topic. Once you have completed your research, and before you begin writing

Essay My Thoughts on Writing
My Thoughts on Writing
The only thing I care about; the only thing I hope to get from this course, is some improvement in
my ability to write what I think –– explain ideas and feelings to other people. I don't give a damn
about anything else, and so far I haven't been disappointed. At the beginning of the course I was
informed that we were going to be discussing exposition, which isn't so much a kind of writing as a
purpose or attitude behind it. This purpose is to explore, unfold, or develop an idea or issue. And the
sense I've gotten from our discussion is that the attitude is one of intellectual honesty, of dedication
to learning something and reporting what's there , instead of protecting preconceived notions or
projecting agendas...show more content...
A friend of mine has already graduated from a university, and she recently went through a whole
crate of papers she wrote in the process. She told me she couldn't remember what many of them
were about; couldn't even remember writing most of them. We've talked about "themewriting"as
something written for and from a closed environment: a mini–universe apart from everyday life, with
its own abbreviated rules, in which oversimplification is acceptable. When I consider the sheer
tonnage of the stuff that's written every midquarter and finals week around here, it sure seems that
most of it is intended to, deserves to, and does head right for the wastebasket immediately when it's
of no further use in that universe: after it's recorded in the grade book. "Commitment" is a term
applied to solid exposition, and themewriting frequently lacks it.
Does anyone like to do this –– does it provide a warm, human, joyous feeling of having made
contact and saying something Important? Or do we just get comfortable doing it? Like being an
accountant: is there a real sense of joy to be found in adding up columns of figures? There may be
some people who would tell me "sure, it's fun," but I think actually they're just feeling safe in a sort
of half–sleep state which isn't exactly happy and may in fact be miserable, but at least is stable.
There may be a different kind of warmth, reserved for "a job well done," and "I might get a
promotion," and most especially: "I feel good

The First And Hardest Part Of Writing An Essay
The first and hardest part of writing an essay is figuring out how to start. A professor may give a
topic to be written about, but in some cases that may not happen. The first step is to pick a topic.
The topic will serve as your thesis. You want to pick a topic that you are relatively knowledgeable
about so you are not completely in the dark. By picking a topic that you know even a little about,
will take away the anxiety of not knowing where to start or what to write about. If you chose to
challenge yourself and write a paper about something you are novice about, then you want to pick
a topic that is broad enough to find enough information about. For example, if you want to write a
paper about cars, do not make cars what your paper is about, because although it is a broad topic
it is also somewhat narrow. Try to broaden your topic buy changing it to, "how cars have changed
our lives." Changing your topic to a more argumentative thesis gives you a pinpoint area to write
about and leaves the door open to give you more to write about. The second step, and what I believe
to be the most important step is locating sources to support your thesis. A researchessay without
sources becomes an opinion essay, and that is what you as the writer want to stay away from.
Sources make your essay more creditable. If your essay is about "how technology has benefited
students and teachers in the classrooms," then you should find sources that are about how
technology is used in

The art of writing is a complex and difficult process. Proper writing requires careful planning,
revision, and proofreading. Throughout the past semester, the quality of my writing has evolved
significantly. At first, I struggled with the separation of different types of paragraphs, and I found
writing them laborious. Constant practice, however, has eliminated many of my original difficulties,
and helped to inspire confidence in my skills. As a collegiate writer, my strength lies in my clear
understanding of the fundamentals of writing, while my primary weakness is proofreading my own

Finding an introductory paragraph that hooks the reader can be troublesome, but throughout the
course, I have spent considerable time developing that technique. The body of my arguments
each exhibit strong support for the thesis. In addition, my conclusions summarize the papers
without restating unnecessary information. Overall, my comprehension of the basic format of an
argument has proved to be a valuable asset. The weakest portion of my writing is my lack of good
proofreading. All papers require a significant amount of proofreading not only for grammatical
errors, but also for structural problems. Proofreading my own work is difficult. Many times, I
wrongly assume that the reader is able to understand my thoughts, while the various points of my
argument are actually not expressed clearly. In some instances, I fail to catch obvious errors, such
as sentence fragments or contractions, which I should be able to eliminate easily from my
writing. Proofreading my own work has consistently been the most difficult part of my writing
process, and I continue to struggle with catching all of the errors in my papers. Analyzing my
strengths and weaknesses as a writer is extremely important. Despite the fact that I understand the
structure of a good argument, I still miss obvious errors in my papers because I lack the skills
necessary to properly proofread my own work. In the future, I plan on spending a large portion of

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Reading Essay
My Path
A person's strength was always his weakness. When it comes to reading and writing, I have many
strengths and weaknesses. My past writing and reading experiences have made me into the writer
/reader that I today. Strengths help me excel in my read/write, but the weaknesses do bring me in a
stump at times. When writing an essay, you can have a very high vocabulary, but not have the best
of grammar. The good thing about weaknesses is that they can be worked on to be made into a
strength. Many people achieve this by setting goals and making the new one harder and harder.
Without strengths or weaknesses or even goals, how would people learn from their mistakes,
becoming better at what they're not or achieve their aims.

When I am writing narratives, I use many different characteristics to describe the characters, and
when I was watching Ted Talks and doing the chart, it made me think about the speaker's features
and how I can use them to describe my characters better. Also, I use my time efficiently I don't
fool around and talk to others. I get right to my work and complete it. I accept writing criticism
very well too, I use it to improve my writing. Another strength that I have in writing is I have
excellent spelling, and I punctuate very well. Likewise in writing, I also have my strengths in
reading. While reading a novel, I can illustrate what is going on in the book or the story in my
mind which helps me understand that story more. It helps me to 'get into' the book. Also, another
strength that I have in reading is that I can annotate and get information out of books very well.
That, coupled with the fact that I am very good at figuring out hidden messages or finding the
theme of the book. Notes I take from the novel help when I am flipping back through the book to
support my theme or message with evidence.
Furthermore, as a writer and reader, I have my goals that I set out to achieve to become better. An
example of a goal that I have for writing is to start adding more evidence in my paragraphs so that
the structures of my paragraphs become more 'juicy.' Another goal I have for my writing is to have
better grammar and higher vocabulary. Having better grammar and better

The shortcomings, I have as a writer is when writing essays my grammar and vocabulary aren't
that well, which makes it harder for me to write my essays. This makes the structure of my
paragraph not good and makes some sentences not make any sense. Another weakness that I have
in writing is that I don't add enough evidence in my paragraphs for my essays. This makes the
paragraphs lack content which doesn't help me prove my point that I am trying to show in that
essay. Some weaknesses I have with reading is that I lose focus to quick. A lot of long novels or
stories don't suit me because I can't concentrate or pay attention to the book for extended periods of
time. When I am reading carelessly and can't focus on the book, I don't understand anything that the
novel is saying. Also, another weakness that I have as a reader is that I am reading too fast
sometimes and don't understand what the book is saying.
Despite my weaknesses just like everybody else I have my strengths. As a writer, I can write
narratives with ease. As my poster states, I have a creative mind which helps me think of characters,
plots, etc. When I am writing narratives, I use many different characteristics to describe the
characters, and when I was watching TedTalks and doing the chart, it made me

Five Myths About Writing Analysis
Furthermore, according to Duncan Carter's article, Five Myths About Writing, "Years of
well–intentioned English teachers have responded to students' first drafts as if they were
supposed to have been perfect. Combined with a pedagogy which suggests that revision is a form
of punishment, it is not hard to see where students get the idea that good writers don't have to
revise" (Carter, 82). Growing up, high school teachers make it seem as if revising and editing your
paper is the worst thing ever. Any student who worked long and hard on their assignment and
turned it in to get revised, would hate to receive a paper back with nothing but red marks and errors
written all over them. This initially gave people the mindset of forgetting about editing their work if
all it did was tear them down and point out their mistakes....show more content...
For example, many individuals "don't know that Thoreau wrote seven drafts of Walden, or that
Hemingway rewrote the last page of Farewell to Arms some thirty–five times" (Carter, 82). In
addition to Thoreau and Hemingway, author George Orwell, took three years before successfully
writing his book and five years before publishing it. In between these times there was even talk
about calling the book The Last Man in Europe instead of 1984. In conclusion, "As wonderful as
it may be to imagine that an academic or scientific article can reach a state of perfection when first
written, this is highly unusual, and very few published authors consider their work perfect even
after it has been carefully reviewed by them as well as their colleagues, proofreaders and editors,
and appropriate revisions have been completed"

Big Distractions When Writing A Research Paper
When writing an essay or any formal paper, finding an ideal place for writing can effect how the
paper turns out. If someone is in a distracting environment and they are not as focused, it could
harm their grade. An ideal space for writing a paper would be a library or somewhere quiet. Being
alone while writing a paper is probably the smartest way to do it. Being in a neat and clean
environment could help with the neatness of the paper. Also being in an organized place could
help with the stress of the paper. When writing a paper, one should avoid as many distractions as
possible. Cell phones are a big distraction, especially when writing a paper. Writing in a quiet,
stress–free, and non–distracting place is very ideal to do essays. When finding an ideal place, one
should look for a quiet and empty place. If one were to try to write an essay in a loud and crowded
place, it would be very distracting and difficult to write that essay. They could make mistakes like:
writing down something they hear instead of what they are thinking, misplacing punctuation, and
procrastinating. There are many things that can distract someone while writing an essay even if

good grade and learn a lot from the professor. Also, to make sure that I use all help that I get from
the class that I will be attending during this semester.

When Writing An Essay

  • 1. My Growth As A Writer The Memo will directly address my growth as a writer throughout my time in EH 101–13. It will also highlight my current strengths and weaknesses in my own personal writing style. My DevelopmentRhetorical Analysis: This being the first paper I wrote for you, it turned out to be utter garbage. This was my worst essay because I was overconfident in my own writing ability and didn't think I had much room to improve on. At the time I felt like it was a top notch essay, but I have recently gone back and reread it only to notice it as choppy and stale to read. Then the paper was riddled with comma splices, even after you did a lesson going over how to fix them. It wasn't out of spite that I kept repeating these mistakes, but instead it was just ignorance on the matter. It was my goal coming out of that essay to fix those errors and while not perfect, I feel I have improved in my awareness of the problem. This paper taught me a great deal on how to think more critically about situations. This new mindset directly came into play in the second essay. I learned my greatest lesson from this paper. I have so much room for improvement. Now that I can see more of my errors I can continue to improve and move forwards with my writing abilities. Literary Analysis: The Literary Analysis was by far my best essay and the one I most enjoyed writing. The new critical thinking skills I learned in the first essay made writing this paper much easier. I also found the topics of the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. When Writing An Essay When writing an essay, especially one to convince others of your competence, it is important to have a central point in mind. Throwing in idle points here and there cause the writer to appear unorganized and sloppy, not at all what a college is looking for. If my central theme is passion then both the introductory and closing sentences should in some way have a connection to passion. The meat of the essay should have evidence for the referenced passion. Closing the paragraph out explaining that passion is central to your experience with individuals with sexually problematic behaviors keeps the message consistent. A central theme may be hard to locate at times, but it is the first step to writing a coherent essay. "Given my expertise, I have been trained to use de–escalation and therapeutic techniques to return a youth to baseline behavior." This is the first sentence of the paragraph. As a reader I will take from this that you intend to write about returning youth to baseline behavior for the duration of the paragraph and that you will further delve into de–escalation and therapeutic techniques to do such. It is also unwise to refer to your expertise when you only hold a bachelor's degree, regardless of how much experience you have. (Not devaluing a bachelor's at all, just saying that "expertise" implies a master's level education or higher.) "Working at Indian Oaks Academy has given me so much experience and has open my eyes and really shown me that there is a lack of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Critical Assessment Of An Essay Critical Assessment When writing an essay it is essential to allow for the piece to develop and become its own organic living being. The author must allow for the paper to make mistakes therefore it can review itself and correct any confusion. This procedure of making and amending blunders can occur as many times as possible for the paper to fully evolve. Thenceforth the author must be able to look objectively at their essay and evaluate how effectively the message is being portrayed. The capability to adequately evaluate and reflect upon one 's essay is what separates the good essays from the superb ones. The essential criteria to what makes a good essay is an accomplished thesis statement, lively transitional wording, and impactful verb choices. While examining my first essay i quickly identified its shortcomings relative to my essential criteria. It was clear to me that my thesis statement lacked directness and did not properly engage the reader. It was too narrow in scope, while, correspondingly failing to provide the reader with direction for the rest of the paper. The thesis was probably the main downfall of the entire essay because it was difficult to tie in what i was writing back to a weak thesis statement. Additionally the paper had close to zero transitional phrases and when they did appear they seemed awkward and forced. This resulted in an essay that felt choppy and probably was uncomfortable for the reader to process. The reason for having transitional words Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. My Thoughts On Writing And Writing Just like the writing I am forcing from my thoughts right now, writing in general is a difficult process for me to transfer from my mind to paper. I have found that when I write I tend to be very repetitive by saying the same thing in a different way over and over. I believe that my repetition is derived from trying to be too complex in the development of how I write. Some additional problems I come across in developing my rhetoric are concentrating; as my focus can be easily drawn away from the current topic at hand. I believe that it may be a short intention span or maybe even lack of understanding toward a certain topic such as the current one about writing developments. I struggle with my ability to form complete thoughts without jumping topics or merging each thought into one another. In retrospect to the problems I have come to face with my writing I do have many things I enjoy about writing. Writing to me is a way to be descriptive and creative with my own thoughts depending upon the style of course, but for the most part it is intriguing because everything that I will do in life will require me to have some set of writing skills. With the following in mind my essay writing process is developed from these aspects. My writing process will start by forming ideas in my head. Usually I don't like to write these ideas and thoughts down because I don't feel they are very developed therefore not worth the time it would take to plan them out on paper. This is especially true Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. My Writing Struggles My successfulness and my struggles began when I first learned how to write and read in Spanish and sixteen years later I was force to learn a new language which is English. Back in the Dominican Republic where I'm originally from in between ages five to eight my mother and I struggle with my writing skills. My mother struggle teaching me how to write and I struggle learning how to write clearly because my teachers couldn't understand anything written by me. I cannot remember how my writing skill look back then, but I can remember how shamed I felt when my classmates made fun of my writing materials. I took the placement test, but I fail all of them. I didn't try again, but I only hurt myself because everything that I did learned in high school fade away in a year and a half that I spend it only working. Furthermore, I decided to enroll for college, but for my surprise I have to take remedial classes or clip. I chose clip while I spend a year in the clip program I still fail, but it did help me a lot in my English hand writing. This achievement wasn't enough to pass my cat–w, but I did pass my reading thanks to my teacher Joao Da Silva. • 6. Writing Skills Process Analysis Within English 219, we have already learned a vital set of writing skills, that will allow for the improvement of essays, and summaries that must be written for future assessments. Some of these skills that would be relevant for achieving general writing improvement could be ideas such as thesis development, structuring and planning, or more specific examples when actually fleshing out the essay such as elements of grammar and style. Thesis development which is crucial so that ideas can be fully explained and related back to a point which can be interpreted as an overarching theme for the entire paper, and allows the reader to interpret the topic of not only the essay but of each paragraph. Voice was the main stylistic element that we discussed in class, and it is the role of voice that allows for the flow of the paper to remain constant and the reader to remain engaged within a paper. Without proper voice, the paper can be confusing to the reader and creates issues of flow while reading the article of work, even worse is the mixing of voices which causes mass disorganization and causes a piece of work to be hard to interpret and comprehend. Within our entire English class so far, even though it has only been a short few weeks, we have invested time into learning crucial techniques to improve writing for academic purposes. Whether this writing be that of planning out major writing assignments in advance with inkshedding and outlining, our designing a thesis so that one's ideas can be properly developed within a paper. • 7. Questions On Writing An Essay Essay So you 're a competent writer. You have written plenty of essays in high school. Yet, for some reason, you still can 't see to get an A on an essay. You have the basics of writing down, so what more can you do? Here are some more advanced advice to spice up your essays, and earn you that A! How to Write a College Essay: Address the Opposition Read any book about writing an essay, and you will be told to address the opposition. Acknowledging that your thesis can be argued may seem like it would hinder your essay, but it actually makes it stronger. When you leave the reader to come up with their own argument against your essay, they think that your ideas are then wrong. By saying that there is a counter argument, you are actually strengthening your essay. You are saying that your idea is in fact the better idea compared to the opposition. You can address the counter argument in a couple of different ways. You can either write the counter arguments all in one paragraph, or weave them into your paper. The most important thing to remember is to address the opposition for every assertion you make. Being consistent in this makes you seem like you have a though out position, and will be taken more seriously by the reader. How to Write a College Essay: Define the Abstract Defining terms may seem like something high school told you never to do. And you should never start out an essay by saying: "The dictionary defines writing as...". But defining what you mean when you Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Reflection On My English 101 Experience Reflecting on My English 101 Experience I used to consider writing as tumble words from your mind, write, read it through, fix minor mistakes, and done. However, you rarely get successful. The truth is many students, including myself, struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in the middle without knowing the main point of the writing. After completing English 101, I can explain the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my essay, and identify my weaknesses. Throughout English 101, I learned that the following the writing process was imperative. Before taking this class, I use to always skip the pre–writing step considering that it is just an easy and unnecessary step. Consequently, I struggled to figure how to start writing, and most importantly I struggled to figure out the main point while writing the draft. And then I finish the first draft close to the deadline that I do not have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I started this class that learned that pre–writing is vital, and requires time and attention as it holds the base of the whole writing. My professor used different analogies such as blueprint for building and map for navigation to explain the importance. It really speeded up my writing after I started to utilize it. I have learned outlining before, but part of the pre–writing that I was fortunate enough to learning in English 101 is the writing triangle. Even before outlining, the topic, purpose, and audience of the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Many people struggle with writing a paper because they do not know how to make their paper appealing to the audience. If you don 't know who the audience is it can lead to many disadvantages because you would have a lot of criticism. Also, your paper wouldnt be interesting to someone who doesn't know much about the topic. The audience is the most important thing to worry about in writing. Sometimes you forget that you're writing not only for your benefits but also the reader 's benefits too. There are ways to show you how to appeal to and know your type of audience. Before you can make your paper appealing to the audience, you have to know who your audience is and why the audience can be important to your paper. "Knowing your audience helps you make decisions about what information you should include, how you should arrange that information, and what kind of supporting details will be necessary for the reader to understand what you are presenting" ("Writing for").Knowing this information can make your paper so much easier because if you know what your audience is looking for and explaining your topic many people would be interested in your paper. If you don't know how to arrange a paper to make it revealing it would be very hard for the audience to know what's going on in your paper. If you want to make your argument appealing you should dissert your readers. Writing a paper can be lengthy if you don't know much about the topic you are writing about. • 10. The Six Steps of Writing an Academic Essay There are six steps to writing an academic essay. If you follow each of these steps correctly, you will find that you can write university essays that will earn you a distinction (or high distinction) every time. It is simply a matter of understanding what steps to follow, and then completing each of them thoroughly. This article provides an outline and brief description of each of these steps. It is an introduction to a series of articles that will examine each step in more depth. Reading just this article alone will provide you with assistance in learning how to plan, research and write your essays. The first place you should go is the library, even if this means ordering in books from other libraries. For academics to have their books (and journal articles) published, they must go through a process called peer–reviewing. During this process, one or more other academics who are experts in the field will read and assess a book or article to decide if it is of publishable standard. This is why your research will be of the highest quality if you use books, monographs, textbooks and journal articles written by academics for your research, because the work had to meet academic standards. There is no such process for publishing on the internet; anyone can write whatever they like on any subject. Your second stop after books, monographs and textbooks will be journal articles. Some of these will only be available in hardcopy from the library, but many will be available in their full–text versions through online electronic databases, such as JStore, ProQuest and Ingenta. 4. Finalise the Essay Plan In Step 2, you would have drafted a rough essay plan before you began your research. During the research process (in Step 3), you would have developed this plan further as you learned more information on your topic. • 11. Essay My Thoughts on Writing My Thoughts on Writing The only thing I care about; the only thing I hope to get from this course, is some improvement in my ability to write what I think –– explain ideas and feelings to other people. I don't give a damn about anything else, and so far I haven't been disappointed. At the beginning of the course I was informed that we were going to be discussing exposition, which isn't so much a kind of writing as a purpose or attitude behind it. This purpose is to explore, unfold, or develop an idea or issue. And the sense I've gotten from our discussion is that the attitude is one of intellectual honesty, of dedication to learning something and reporting what's there , instead of protecting preconceived notions or projecting agendas...show more content... A friend of mine has already graduated from a university, and she recently went through a whole crate of papers she wrote in the process. She told me she couldn't remember what many of them were about; couldn't even remember writing most of them. We've talked about "themewriting"as something written for and from a closed environment: a mini–universe apart from everyday life, with its own abbreviated rules, in which oversimplification is acceptable. When I consider the sheer tonnage of the stuff that's written every midquarter and finals week around here, it sure seems that most of it is intended to, deserves to, and does head right for the wastebasket immediately when it's of no further use in that universe: after it's recorded in the grade book. "Commitment" is a term applied to solid exposition, and themewriting frequently lacks it. Does anyone like to do this –– does it provide a warm, human, joyous feeling of having made contact and saying something Important? Or do we just get comfortable doing it? Like being an accountant: is there a real sense of joy to be found in adding up columns of figures? There may be some people who would tell me "sure, it's fun," but I think actually they're just feeling safe in a sort of half–sleep state which isn't exactly happy and may in fact be miserable, but at least is stable. There may be a different kind of warmth, reserved for "a job well done," and "I might get a promotion," and most especially: "I feel good Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Also knowing to write an essay is important because you need it for work or school writing. An essay is a short piece of writing on a basic subject. • 13. The First And Hardest Part Of Writing An Essay The first and hardest part of writing an essay is figuring out how to start. A professor may give a topic to be written about, but in some cases that may not happen. The first step is to pick a topic. The topic will serve as your thesis. You want to pick a topic that you are relatively knowledgeable about so you are not completely in the dark. By picking a topic that you know even a little about, will take away the anxiety of not knowing where to start or what to write about. If you chose to challenge yourself and write a paper about something you are novice about, then you want to pick a topic that is broad enough to find enough information about. For example, if you want to write a paper about cars, do not make cars what your paper is about, because although it is a broad topic it is also somewhat narrow. Try to broaden your topic buy changing it to, "how cars have changed our lives." Changing your topic to a more argumentative thesis gives you a pinpoint area to write about and leaves the door open to give you more to write about. The second step, and what I believe to be the most important step is locating sources to support your thesis. A researchessay without sources becomes an opinion essay, and that is what you as the writer want to stay away from. Sources make your essay more creditable. If your essay is about "how technology has benefited students and teachers in the classrooms," then you should find sources that are about how technology is used in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. The art of writing is a complex and difficult process. Proper writing requires careful planning, revision, and proofreading. Throughout the past semester, the quality of my writing has evolved significantly. At first, I struggled with the separation of different types of paragraphs, and I found writing them laborious. Constant practice, however, has eliminated many of my original difficulties, and helped to inspire confidence in my skills. As a collegiate writer, my strength lies in my clear understanding of the fundamentals of writing, while my primary weakness is proofreading my own work. Finding an introductory paragraph that hooks the reader can be troublesome, but throughout the course, I have spent considerable time developing that technique. The body of my arguments each exhibit strong support for the thesis. In addition, my conclusions summarize the papers without restating unnecessary information. Overall, my comprehension of the basic format of an argument has proved to be a valuable asset. The weakest portion of my writing is my lack of good proofreading. All papers require a significant amount of proofreading not only for grammatical errors, but also for structural problems. Proofreading my own work is difficult. Many times, I wrongly assume that the reader is able to understand my thoughts, while the various points of my argument are actually not expressed clearly. In some instances, I fail to catch obvious errors, such as sentence fragments or contractions, which I should be able to eliminate easily from my writing. Proofreading my own work has consistently been the most difficult part of my writing process, and I continue to struggle with catching all of the errors in my papers. Analyzing my strengths and weaknesses as a writer is extremely important. Despite the fact that I understand the structure of a good argument, I still miss obvious errors in my papers because I lack the skills necessary to properly proofread my own work. • 15. Strengths And Weaknesses Of Reading Essay My Path A person's strength was always his weakness. When it comes to reading and writing, I have many strengths and weaknesses. My past writing and reading experiences have made me into the writer /reader that I today. Strengths help me excel in my read/write, but the weaknesses do bring me in a stump at times. When writing an essay, you can have a very high vocabulary, but not have the best of grammar. The good thing about weaknesses is that they can be worked on to be made into a strength. Many people achieve this by setting goals and making the new one harder and harder. Without strengths or weaknesses or even goals, how would people learn from their mistakes, becoming better at what they're not or achieve their aims. The shortcomings,...show more content... When I am writing narratives, I use many different characteristics to describe the characters, and when I was watching Ted Talks and doing the chart, it made me think about the speaker's features and how I can use them to describe my characters better. Also, I use my time efficiently I don't fool around and talk to others. I get right to my work and complete it. I accept writing criticism very well too, I use it to improve my writing. Another strength that I have in writing is I have excellent spelling, and I punctuate very well. Likewise in writing, I also have my strengths in reading. While reading a novel, I can illustrate what is going on in the book or the story in my mind which helps me understand that story more. It helps me to 'get into' the book. Also, another strength that I have in reading is that I can annotate and get information out of books very well. That, coupled with the fact that I am very good at figuring out hidden messages or finding the theme of the book. Notes I take from the novel help when I am flipping back through the book to support my theme or message with evidence. Furthermore, as a writer and reader, I have my goals that I set out to achieve to become better. An example of a goal that I have for writing is to start adding more evidence in my paragraphs so that the structures of my paragraphs become more 'juicy.' Another goal I have for my writing is to have better grammar and higher vocabulary. Having better grammar and better Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Without strengths or weaknesses or even goals, how would people learn from their mistakes, become better at what they're not or achieve their aims? The shortcomings, I have as a writer is when writing essays my grammar and vocabulary aren't that well, which makes it harder for me to write my essays. This makes the structure of my paragraph not good and makes some sentences not make any sense. Another weakness that I have in writing is that I don't add enough evidence in my paragraphs for my essays. This makes the paragraphs lack content which doesn't help me prove my point that I am trying to show in that essay. Some weaknesses I have with reading is that I lose focus to quick. A lot of long novels or stories don't suit me because I can't concentrate or pay attention to the book for extended periods of time. When I am reading carelessly and can't focus on the book, I don't understand anything that the novel is saying. Also, another weakness that I have as a reader is that I am reading too fast sometimes and don't understand what the book is saying. Despite my weaknesses just like everybody else I have my strengths. As a writer, I can write narratives with ease. As my poster states, I have a creative mind which helps me think of characters, plots, etc. When I am writing narratives, I use many different characteristics to describe the characters, and when I was watching TedTalks and doing the chart, it made me Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Five Myths About Writing Analysis Furthermore, according to Duncan Carter's article, Five Myths About Writing, "Years of well–intentioned English teachers have responded to students' first drafts as if they were supposed to have been perfect. Combined with a pedagogy which suggests that revision is a form of punishment, it is not hard to see where students get the idea that good writers don't have to revise" (Carter, 82). Growing up, high school teachers make it seem as if revising and editing your paper is the worst thing ever. Any student who worked long and hard on their assignment and turned it in to get revised, would hate to receive a paper back with nothing but red marks and errors written all over them. This initially gave people the mindset of forgetting about editing their work if all it did was tear them down and point out their mistakes....show more content... For example, many individuals "don't know that Thoreau wrote seven drafts of Walden, or that Hemingway rewrote the last page of Farewell to Arms some thirty–five times" (Carter, 82). In addition to Thoreau and Hemingway, author George Orwell, took three years before successfully writing his book and five years before publishing it. In between these times there was even talk about calling the book The Last Man in Europe instead of 1984. In conclusion, "As wonderful as it may be to imagine that an academic or scientific article can reach a state of perfection when first written, this is highly unusual, and very few published authors consider their work perfect even after it has been carefully reviewed by them as well as their colleagues, proofreaders and editors, and appropriate revisions have been completed" Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 20. My Experience With Academic Writing My experience with my academic writing it comes from the past years in different classes, that I have taken here in Texas Tech University. I have taken some couple classes in the science department, a law class. In my law class I had to write an academic paper, explain the different types a law that will apply in a wind energy industry. This academicwriting was done in the law class, but that was different from English class. The writing in the science class was little bit like the writing that was done in English 1301 at South Plains. My experience in the class was to compare and summaries article that was chosen by the professor. In this class, it helps me to improve my writing skills little bit more that my high school English. One of my weaknesses in writing is my grammar, that I will go in depth by going to the writing center and other helpful resources. In 1302 I will learn more in depth how to write a research paper, so that I can go more in depth on my work and can use all the different sources on an essay paper. Me intend to build my strength to get better on my grammar is to make sure that I read aloud for my research or argument paper that will be writing for this semester. My goal for this class is to finish with a good grade and learn a lot from the professor. Also, to make sure that I use all help that I get from the class that I will be attending during this semester.
