3. Leonardo da Vinci
• Leonardo da Vinci was an Italian Renaissance
man, he was a painter, sculptor, architect,
musician, mathematician, engineer, inventor,
anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist
and writer. He was one of the greatest
renaissance men.
• His complete name is: Leonardo di ser Piero
da Vinci
4. Period
• Leonardo live in the Renaissance
• Born: 15 April (1452, Florence)
• Died: 2 May (1519, France)
5. Contributions
• He made discoveries about the anatomical
models and he also made some projects of
musical instruments. He painted some
drawings like the Gioconda and he wrote
some books too.
• His researches were very important for
science.
6. Knowledge about the body
• People of the Middle Ages didn’t know
anything about the inside of the human body,
and when Leonardo appeared, they started to
learn about the main organs and arteries of
the body.
7. How did Leonardo expand
knowledge and understanding of
human anatomy?
• He expand his knowledge because he had a lot
of apprentices and because he wrote all his
discoveries in books.
8. Methods used
• He dissected corpses and he started to
experiment about the main capillaries,
arteries and organs.
9. Conclusions
• Our main organs are joined by arteries. He
thought that there were only arteries and the
veins didn’t exist.
10. • Because one of his apprentices sold them to
an Italian painter, and the painter saved them
all together.
Why didn´t we know anything
about the drawings of Leonardo
until recently?
