My father immigrated from the Netherlands to New Zealand with his family when he was 10 years old so his parents could pursue better lifestyles and opportunities for their children, as his aunt, uncle, and grandmother already lived in Christchurch. As a child, he quickly adapted to the New Zealand school system and culture by making friends with local children. While he missed friends and family from the Netherlands, he enjoyed New Zealand's more relaxed lifestyle and preferred living there for its improved quality of life.

1. My Immigration Interview I have interviewed my Dad, who has immigrated from the Netherlands to New Zealand.

2. Why did you immigrate and why to New Zealand? My parents immigrated when I was 10 years old with the whole family. My parents wanted a better lifestyle and opportunities for their children. My father had two brothers and a sister who were living in Christchurch where we immigrated to.

3. Explain what the cultural differences are between Holland and New Zealand? New Zealanders are more relaxed and laided back than the Dutch. But most of the differences are more subtle.

4. How did you adapt to the New Zealand lifestyle and culture? As a child you adapt pretty quickly when you go to a New Zealand school and play with kiwi kids.

5. How did you feel when you moved from Holland to New Zealand? I was happier because I enjoyed my new school and the house that we lived in had a big garden which was great fun to play in.

6. Explain what the hard differences are between Holland and New Zealand? The hard differences between Holland and New Zealand are the language differences and also not having your friends and family around to spend the weekends with.

7. Would you rather live in New Zealand or in Holland and why? I would rather live in New Zealand than in Holland because of the better lifestyles and opportunities available here in New Zealand.
