3. In 1956, the first translatic telephone cable as laid
between England and America. Although telephones in
peoples’ homes became more popular, only 10% had one

4. In 1948, very few homes had a telephone. In the 60s
and 70s, more people had telephones. But they couldn't
call abroad themselves, they had to get an operator to
connect them, but calls were still very expensive.

5. In the 80s,nearly every one had a telephone and the
first mobiles(the size of a brick)were introduced which
meant fewer people used public telephones.

6. In the 90s,mobiles got smaller, cheaper, and more
popular, the internet became important to peoples’
daily life. People then started to access the internet
from mobiles as well.

7. At the beginning of the 21st century, broadband internet
connections made it possible to watch videos online. Sites
such as BBC iplayer and Youtube became more popular and
more people nowadays buy music off the internetrather
then going to the music shop.

8. |The skateboard was first invented in the late 50s by people who
wanted to surf on land. It became very popular in the 70s. The
hula hoop became the biggest toy craze in 1958. The rubiks cube
was the toy to have in the early 80s. It is estimated that over 100
million cubes were sold by the end of 1982!
