1. The entire process of getting US Citizenship
Nowadays, most of the people want to be a citizen of the U.S. because they know that, being a citizen of
the United States is a matter of pride and prestige. They can do anything to obtain this coveted title. To
become a U.S. citizen quickly without undue delay, the candidate must have a thorough knowledge of
the US citizenship process before applying.
To obtain a U.S. citizenship what kind of form we require?
There are 2 types of form for US citizenship
(I) N-400 (U.S. citizenship by naturalization)
(Ii) N-600 (Certificate of Citizenship - For parents)
The applicant must confirm which category he/she needs and then select the appropriate application for
citizenship.
What is the Form N-400?
Green card holders who are over the age of 18 and who meet the eligibility criteria can use this form to
apply for US citizenship. N-400 must be filed along with photos and supporting documents.
The eligibility criteria for N-400
The Candidate
• should be 18 years or over the age of 18 years at the time of filing his/her application for US citizenship
• Must have a valid green card for 5 years
• Must have maintained a continuous residence for at least five years in the United States. This period
corresponds to 5 years that are proceeding the time when the plaintiff files his/her application for
citizenship
• Must have lived in their primary residence (for at least three months) and the state where the US
citizenship form is submitted before filing for citizenship.
• Must be fluent in English (read, write and speak ordinary English)
• must have sufficient knowledge on the fundamentals of American government and its Constitution
• must have good morals character
