Republican View of the Fiscal Cliff

! Republicans lately have been arguing that the biggest mistake of the Democrats
was not going over the fiscal cliff at the beginning of the year. They think that the “grand
bargain” focusing on debt and budget issues would have been easier to accomplish this
way. The constant loop holes in the tax system has people up in arms which is why
many actually are considering Ryanʼs ridiculous tax plan. He closes loopholes but he
also will provide huge tax breaks for the wealthy and do nothing for the poor. He also
wants to lower corporal tax rates on top of personal tax rates.
! In order to avoid the fiscal cliff, tax rates were raised a long with getting other
revenues to bring in money. Basically democrats think higher taxes will get us through
and republicans think tax cuts and patching loopholes will get us through. I think that
loopholes in the tax system do need to be patched up in some way. However, I do not
agree with Ryanʼs plan to create tax breaks for the wealthy. The wealthy have more
money, they should have to pay more. Tax breaks should be going to the people living in
poverty who canʼt afford a roof over their head much less taxes.
