                 Gas Prices

! Gas prices have jumped up yet again. From January to February consumer
prices jumped up 0.7 due to 9.1% increase in gasoline prices. Gas prices are
responsible for a majority of the overall increase. Economists are saying that the jump
from January to February is the largest month to month increase since 2009. While
many blame upward pressure on inflation the federal reserve wonʼt acknowledge the
situation until next week when there is a meeting concerning the economy.
! Iʼm tired of climbing gas prices. So is everyone else. Going around Facebook for
awhile was a picture wanting people to all protest by not buying any gas one day in April
to force Gas Stations to lower prices. I am sure a lot of people will protest that havenʼt
already. It is getting ridiculous but at the same time what can we really do? If people do
pull together to do the protest in April it will certainly hit the economy hard. If everyone
genuinely didnʼt buy gas across the nation, gas companies would lose a ton of money
nationwide. I doubt this will happen, but I hope it does. At least then a message would
truly be sent that people are fed up.
! Itʼs time for a change. I donʼt think anything will be fixed anytime soon though.
Gas prices are going to get much worse before things start to get better. But if people
do start protesting, it probably will just screw over our economy. Our economy is already
not doing to hot with the recession and no jobs. Things are slowly picking up here and
there though. I actually work in real estate and the housing market has picked up
tremendously in the past year alone. So I think our economy is on the right path to
slowly recovering, it just takes time. But high gas prices are certainly a hiccup in the
                 road.
